Their crew showed up ready to work on 9/2 and 9/3. They flew through most of our project until the local conservation commission shut us down. They contacted us immediately when it happened and waiting for our direction as we worked through a wetland issue with the town. Once we got the all clear, they were back within 2 days to finish the job (slightly modified). While we did not remove one tree from the original scope, we did need it "dead wooded" which is more time consuming than just taking it down. They didn't charge us any premium and honored the original price despite the fact that they had to come out 2X. Also, I have seen the comments on here about reaching them. I had no issue with our point person. He was always readily available by email and when our job was shut down and I didn't have his cell phone, I received a return call within 15 minutes. And, he gave me his cell phone for future use. They cleared the lot beautifully and I was impressed with both crews who showed up. They worked hard, professional and were mindful of safety. We received 5 bids for this work and they were very competitive too. I did have problems getting references for them but Angie?s List came through for us on that one! No payment up front was required, insurance certificate was delivered in a timely fashion and I would hire them again in a second.

They were extremely hard to get in contact with. When they finally scheduled a date, they had to reschedule three to four times. That alone was tough but WE had to make the phone call each time! They never contacted us to postpone on the scheduled day. And of course every delay meant there was more damage to the trees from the winter moth. They recommended a second treatment. When they called to schedule, we first discussed and called them back twice to schedule. We tried calling them twice, but they didn't return calls again. I consider tree tech one of those companies that must have plenty of business where you are just a number and they can just move on to the next client, or they just have more business than they can handle. I thought this might be helpful to someone who is looking to treat for insects where timing is important. We are truly not high-maintenance people and always tried to stick to the work at hand rather than let frustration get in the way. I think they may have internal communication issues including their field manager having trouble returning phone calls.

We try not to make excuses for poor performance. However, winter moth has a lifecycle that consists of maybe 5 weeks of voracious leaf eating, Some clients scheduling was mishandled. We were concerned about overbooking and being realistic about how much we could produce. Because there were so many variables (weather, windows open, neighbors objections etc) rescheduling was a weakness. We are working to correct internal communications and make rescheduling an easier process. Thankfully this is not a service that needs year round activity. It is 5 weeks of craziness then things go back to "normal". Thanks for letting us know. Andy Felix, President

Paul, the "salesman", was very responsive. He was able to scope and estimate the job by talking to me on the phone, and driving by to take a look. The price for removing the trees seemed reasonable ($2,700), and the price for grinding the stumps ($300) seemed cheap. The team showed up right on time to do the work, and were impressive to watch. Real professionals. The were able to take down these very large trees working around power lines, fences, etc. There was one casualty, the roof of my plastic shed got cracked somehow. But the crew foreman was quick to point it out and said the company would make it right. It turned out that I needed another tree taken down, and Tree Tech suggested that they'd remove the additional tree at no cost to make up for the damage to the shed. This was a great deal for me (I can fix a shed, I can't take down a 4-5 story tree). There were two things that kept me from giving Tree Tech straight A's. First, the price for the tree removal. The price was reasonable, but not a bargain. Second was the stump grinding. It was priced separately, and it turns out they only agree to grind the stumps down a few inches. While this is spelled out, it turns out that a few inches isn't really useful. Even if you're just planting grass, by the time you level the spot with the surrounding area, you can't get enough level dirt over the stump for grass. Further, one of the stumps wasn't ground down far enough. Its still above the surrounding area. All that aside, I think Tree Tech did a decent job. And I appreciated their flexibility in dealing with the shed damage.

On occasion stump grinding does not get the attention it deserves. In this case and ones similar more attention needs to go on what will be happening after the stump is ground. The fact that most stumps are ground 6-8" below grade should have been discussed. Anticipating what will be done with the surrounding grade is importantant since lowering the grade raises the depth of the ground stump causing it to be too high to work with. Sometimes the amount of grindings makes depths tough to determine. In any case, if there is a problem and we are told about it we will regrind the stump to the machines maximum capacity at no additional cost. This had alays been our policy. Andy Felix, President

Because of Angie's List, I was able to obtain several quotes from highly recommended companies where they provided the lowest quote. The company was great and easy to talk too from the onset. Both trees were in difficult locations that required special equipment and care to not damage my or my neighbor?s property. They were able to take down both large trees on the first day in just a few hours. The very next day they had a logging truck remove the two trunks and ground down the stumps to below the grass line. I have ZERO complaints and would recommend them to anyone.

Nice guys to deal with and responsive if I asked them questions or to do something. A bit of a challenge to get in contact with the local sales rep that works specifically in our area because he had a personal issue to attend to out of town. They should have immediately set up some way to contact calls he should have returned, instead, I had to do multiple calls before I was told he was unavailable for estimate and he did call me from out of town to apologize. They sent out another sales rep without telling me he was coming. The rep was very professional and personable. Their main number is basically a clearing house- they send your call to the appropriate areal sales rep. I was able to leave a message with the main operator who did get the message to the sales rep to confirm a service appointment. It is more of an organizational issue than dealing with people who don't care if they are calling you back or not and for the price, it is worth hanging in there and persisting a bit if they seem to forget you. I suspect that had not my town service rep been called out of town, it would have been a lot more efficient, but overall, it was not bad. Do go over the estimate with the tree techs that come out in detail and ask questions. Check on their work before they start to clean up. I have to cut them a bit of a break because they were on time and working job after job in 100 degree heat without complaint. They cleaned up after themselves as well.
Description of Work: Pruned large Norway Maple for dead wood (branches broken due to storm), thinned tree, cabled large leader branch for stability- left wood, cut into 3 foot long pieces as per agreement, mulched rest of wood. Pruned and thinned another maple. Problem was that they did not prune large branch against our roof on this tree and I had to tell them. This was specified in estimate and is a standard practice in arbor care to not have trees branches on roofs etc. They thinned out on one side only and did not go around the entire tree so the pruning looks a bit lopsided. I am guessing they thought that perhaps the other part of the tree was on the property line and belonged to my neighbor but they didn't ask me to clarify. I only noticed the lopsided pruning after they left.

Overall, it went great. Could not ask for anything better. We moved to Newton in June 2009. Yard needed lots of tree work. Big trees and smaller trees. Back yard was like a canopy over it with little light getting through. Tree Tech came highly recommended. They did not disappoint. They were at our home for almost one week. Big crane; bucket truck; and lots of staff. They were great. Several of the trees were on the back side of the house and the crane went over the house into the backyard. They were attentive and professional. Watching them do their work you could tell they really knew what they were doing. They cleaned up beautifully; came back and ground the stumps below ground level. As you can tell, I am really happy with their work both in terms of quality and value. I will use them again!

They came out and gave an estimate on the day they said they would. I got (4) quotes from different companies, they had the best price by far. They showed up on time was very careful not to break anything in the yard, chopped down all the trees and cleaned up after themselves. They raked and swept everything, my yard ended up cleaner than before they started.

I have been playing phone tag with the servicer of the Attleboro area for at least a month. He is always out of the office when I call so I leave a voicemail, he returns it fairly promptly but I always miss his call because I'm at work and even if I call back 5 minutes after the call I get his voicemail again. In one voicemail the servicer suggested I leave my address so he can just drive over and take a look at the tree however I have additional trees that need trimming that I wish to point out, so this was unacceptable. The last straw was I called the voicemail to say that someone was home at my house to meet him if he was in the area on Monday - call placed around 10 am. I received a return voicemail around 3 saying he was in the area in the morning but didn't check his voicemail until he returned back to the office that afternoon so would be unable to come out. I have given up on this company as I'm sure if I can't get ahold of the servicer before the project begins I will be dissatisfied with the amount of communication as the job is in progress.

Tree Tech first came with the wrong crane for the job - too big. The second day scheduled was aborted because of some equipment scheduling problem at Tree Tech. This is after I had alerted nervous neighbors a second time. Third time they did not show up until 4:30 in the afternoon and the police shut the job down at 6:30 citing city rules about construction after 7 pm and complaints from the neighbors. The forth day, the job was finally completed.

They did a great job! The crew was professional and very efficient. The entire cutting process was done in about two hours. The trunk removal was about 20 minutes and the stump grinding was about 45 minutes. My only criticism of the entire thing was I was left with 3 large piles of mulch type stuff from the grinding. If given a choice I would of had them remove it. Since I had never had this done before, I didn't know to ask about it. Overall, they were great!
Description of Work: They cut down 3 trees: two dying pines, approximately 30 feet high and one very large 50 foot oak tree that was hanging over my house. They brought in a crane, a man was dropped down into the tree, attached a band to the tree, then went lower on the tree and cut away. The crane lifted the cut portion of the tree, over wires, and other trees, and brought it down to the ground where another crew trimmed it and fed the smaller limbs into a shredder. They took the trees down by pieces. Later a flatbed with a claw, took the large trunks away. Later a grinder came and ground down the stumps.

Tree Tech was honest with me and I really appreciated that. They told me that it wasn't really a benefit to me for them to grind up the stumps of the trees by the edge of my property. They also called me back right away when I called them and they were really good about cleaning up. I gave their name to two other people already and I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Tree Tech removed a total of six tall skinny Oak trees from the yard that surrounds my four small bedroom house. Two of those trees, they removed the roots on and they also ground up the stumps for the trees in my yard. The ones by the edge of the road, they left and did not grind the stumps.

DESPITE A GOOD INITIAL MEETING WITH THE SERVICE REP. I FOUND THAT TREE TECH FELL INTO THE SAME PATTERN AS A PREVIOUS COMPANY, ROUTINELY SPRAYING MY SICK TREE BUT PAYING NO ATTENTION TO ITS CONDITION. ONE MAN SPRAYING THE TREE DID EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT ITS HEALTH AND OF HIS OWN INITIATIVE TOOK A CUTTING BACK FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS. WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE REP TO FOLLOW UP HE TOLD ME THAT THE SPRAYER HAD NO BUSINESS TAKING SUCH ACTION AND IS SUPPOSED TO SPRAY AND NOTHING MORE. THE REP WAS DISMISSIVE OF MY CONCERNS ON THE PHONE, TELLING ME 'NO DOGWOODS ARE HEALTHY THIS YEAR'. HE LATER CAME ON SITE AND LEFT A NOTE AGREEING WITH ME, BUT I'D ALREADY DECIDED TO SWITCH COMPANIES. ALSO, I BELIEVE TREE TECH MISPLACED A CHECK I SENT IN, BUT THE SERVICE REP INSISTED I NEVER SENT IT. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED RECEIVING MAIL INDICATING PAYMENT, BUT CLAIMED THERE WAS NO CHECK, THOUGH THEY NEVER REPORTED THIS TO ME (SAID THEY'RE TOO BUSY TO DO THAT). CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT A HIGH PRIORITY IT SEEMS.
