I called this company for quotes on a bunch of projects I needed. Some companies would like to handle only some straight-forward projects, and some companies are helpful in the customer's design needs. This company appears to fit in the first description. Also, it is annoying that basic quotes takes so long to get back to the customer. I realize that businesses are busy, but some do get back to the customer quicker than others. Here is the scenario of my communication with this business: 3-22-14 : I met with the employee to review a lot of projects I needed seperate quotes on; I then sent an email with the detailed summary of the projects; did not receive back an acknowledgement email from them 3-23-14: assuming that my quotes were being worked on, I quickly sent a revised email on some details (including photos); did not receive back an acknowledgement email from them 3-27-14: still haven't received a reply back on the quotes, I figured I had time to send them a few more revisions on some project details; still did not receive back an acknowledgement email from them 4-1-14: I sent an email asking if they are able to provide me the quotes (because I haven't seen a reply from them at all) 4-2-14: The employee replied to me (out of the 11 originally spoke with him about) with 3 project quotes, and a fourth quote he is working on still; I replied to him with an update on the material I preferred to use in one project (because there were options), also gave some additional information about certain projects (which I was still waiting for quotes on from 3-22-14); I did not receive a reply back after this email I sent 4-3-14 Thur: I sent an email with some question on what his quotes included, and also asked about the "pending" quotes that I didn't receive yet from 3-22-14; he replied about one of the projects only; I then replied to him saying thank you and I will wait for the remainder of the quotes from him next week, and reminded him to see my previous questions in my last email which he didn't reply to yet (I was nice enough to still wait more days for his to get back to me) 4-4-14: He replied to me saying he didn't see the last revision I sent but will update his information at once. But still I did not receive the remainder quotes yet, but I did give him till next week anyways. 4-5-14: I sent him a summary of the list to be more helpful and where we were with all the quotes I am looking for; plus, I am asking for one more quote about a different height of one of the projects 4-10-14 Thur: It has been a week later and did not receive the requested information; I emailed him if he is able to provide the remaining quotes. 4-11-14: He replied he is still working on one of the quotes; I replied to him that I would like the remainder quotes today, and not necessarily that other quote he is still working on; I did not receive a reply from him 4-15-14: I emailed him saying that he doesn't appear to be able to provide me with the remaining quotes; he replied with some (but not all) of the remaining quotes but in a quick fashion and not a lot of detail, it wasn't very thorough or appeared concerned with some details; he then wrote: "Sorry for the wait on these, but there are so many changes that you make it is hard to keep up."; I found this insulting because considering that he is in the business of helping with design - since design changes/updates are part of the business. It definitely appears that they just want something straight forward and easy to do; I wrote back (yes, I am sounding a bit annoyed now): "My changes were not that complicated if you read in the order of the emails. That is why it was called "updates". It is not unusual for people to make changes. There are people out there that care of design and people that just want whatever built. Contractors and repair people should expect that. I guess there are different companies out there that handle different types of customers. After all, our first appointment was on 3/22/14, some quotes were given on 4/2 and I just received the remaining brief quotes today, 4/15." This ended my business relations with this company. It was a waste of my time relaying detailed information and additional photos to this business. NOTE: WHEN GETTING QUOTES I LEARNED THE HARD WAY - ALWAYS ASK HOW LONG FOR THEM TO GIVE YOU YOUR QUOTES. AFTERALL, IF YOU NEED TO BUDGET YOUR PROJECT AND PLAN FOR IT, IT IS YOUR VALUABLE TIME BEING WASTED WHEN BUSINESSES CANNOT FOLLOW-UP IN A SHORT TIME AFTER THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT WITH THE QUOTES FIRST. UPDATE TO REPLY FROM THIS COMPANY ON 4-27-14: I am shocked by your response. There were a few changes but you should have easily accommodated those. You knew the projects you needed to be done from the first appointment. At the time, I said to you that I would send you a summary list of what we had discussed. You are exaggerating in my projects descriptions. I can show anyone what my emails looked like. You were just not honest enough or admit to me that you could not handle all those projects up front. In fact, they were just quotes at the time. If you were experienced enough you could have put together the quotes as requested. I didn't tell you to begin work on them, just quotes (as many people often request from contractors). Some contractors are more organized than others. And now you are making it sound like it was my fault by your reply. Don't lose sight here that I am a busy person also. I made an appointment for quotes only. I expect the quotes to be provided to me no more than a week. If you, at the time of the appointment, was taking down the information we went over with my projects in person, than you were agreeing to continue with the quotes. You didn't tell me otherwise. When I said I would said you a summary email of what we went over in the appointment, it was just that a "summary" email of what we had discussed. If you had questions or concerns about it, a quick reply would have been appropriate. I am now judging how contractors do at the quotes stage. Because if there are issues like communication and follow-through at this stage, then that is a red flag to me for the actual project if it were to take place with that contractor. My emails were right to the point but it was probably beyond your workmanship abilities. You should have told me right away instead of wasting my time as well.

Tom made time to go over the design, explained plantings and to choose stones for walkway. Very professional and attention to detail. Will use him again this year!

The crew arrived as planned and worked all day preparing the surface area for installation. On the second day, the crew arrived as planned and began to install the stones for the patio. They were meticulous and very professional with great attention to detail throughout the entire process. They cleaned up the area before leaving in mid-afternoon. We are very happy with the total job. We found the company while attending a large local Home Show.

Tom was fantastic! His price was reasonable and he answered all of my questions. He reviewed the contract with me prior to starting and asked me how it looked as he was completing it, to make sure it met my standards. It looks awesome!!!!! It adds a beautiful touch to the curb appeal of my home and is an inviting entrance for people to walk to the front door. Of the several contractors I contacted, Tom got back to me the quickest and answered all of my questions. His price was by far the fairest and he offers the best warranty. He stands by his work. He's also a certified Unilock installer, so he knows what he's doing.

Environmental Design and Landscaping was able to replace part of my existing stone patio and worked with my desire to keep the project as 'green' as possible by searching for used or older stones that would match well with what was there already. Tom was wonderful to deal with, doing the legwork necessary to find and drop off samples until we found something that I loved. He got the work done quickly and professionally, and for the amount quoted. No surprises, and a genuine pleasure to deal with! I would definately use them again!

We are very pleased with Environmental Design & Landscaping. We've used them for many years and their prices are very reasonable. Thomas Baurle is so responsive and if you have any needs he just goes with it. He's so positive and effective and makes your lawn look really good. Everyone that we've recommended him to is so pleased with the price because they didn't think they could afford lawn care, but he comes and cuts it and they say, "Oh my gosh, I should have done it years ago." We're older and sometimes if my husband isn't able to help me Tom would do those extra yard work things for us and he also does spring and fall clean up if you want him to. They do a really basic good job and it just helps us out. After he's done the work I might have a few little extra parts, but it makes it so much easier for me to do afterwards in my garden. The quality is good for what I want and whatever you want done he works with you to accommodate you and never a complaint about anything.
