R and G Contracting

This is a late review. He was punctual and professional. He fixed the fallen siding pieces. We asked for a quote for the porch. He was prompt providing the estimate. We think it is a fair price. But we did not use his service as we have delayed our renovation plans.

Excellently! On his first trip out, he replaced a missing gutter corner located over our master bathroom, where we had been seeing water drip through the ceiling. Once the gutter corner was replaced & caulked the ongoing water damage we had seen before stopped. On his second trip out, he installed a hand railing for the external steps leading to our basement door. The railing is securely fastened to the concrete frame of the steps and is sturdy.

John did excellent work installing vinyl siding and replacing the gutters on our house. It was not an easy job, the house has a lot of details. John was quick to come and give us an estimate and was always available to answer questions. He was flexible with scheduling and cleaned up after the work. Would definitely hire again.

My project was to small a job

Initially called John to repair minor damage to the siding. He was responsive and did the job that same day. Asked him for an estimate to replace the windows. I had given him a schedule of long lead time but the project ended up moving quicker than anticipated. John was able to expedite window install to fit my schedule. We installed Harvey Tribute replacement windows. They look quite sharp. It took about 2-3 weeks to manufacture the windows. He installed them in about two days. He removed and hauled old windows.

John was very responsive during the entire process, from our initial contact regarding an estimate to the final day of installation and even follow-up after it was all done to make sure that we were happy with the work. We had a very tight timeline (1 month from start to finish) and John was able to get our windows on an expedited order which we were very thankful for! It took a week and a half for the windows to come in once we ordered them and he finished the installation of all the windows in 4 days, including the final finish work on the interior of the windows and exterior flashing. We Would definitely recommend John for anyone looking to get replacement windows, his work was excellent and he did an excellent job of making sure that the job site was cleaned up before he left every day.

John come give us a good quote, not the cheapest one, but I am not looking for the cheapest contractor. in the quote, everything is write down, what he is going to use, how long it going to take, what will be fixed, replaced, installed. John is always here, working all day long, talk to him few min before I went to work in the morning, answer my questions, what need to be done, how I want it, it was very nice working with him. He always answer my phone calls, and reply my email. if anything come up, he will call me first, let me know how much it will cost. John come install Certainteed Cedar Impressions, looks very nice, look like real wood siding, he was careful with my bushes around the house, clean up everyday before he leave, if it is going to rain the next day, he will make sure no water will leak into the house. I strongly recommend R and G.

I guess, I wish they had come up with another idea. I mean, I told them what the problem was and that we have really old, very faded yellow siding and I was having trouble trying to figure out as the best way to match that. And he really didn't think that he could save cardboard siding that we have and put it back on. And so, I had given him my idea of just using cardboard and then painting it. And I had kind of hoped that maybe he'll come up with another idea. But I did get his estimate, it was higher than another company that we hired. And in the end the other company felt that they could save most of the siding. And that was really the key that they felt confident, not 100%, but that they felt confident about that. So, that's more why I went with the other company.

It's not the first job we've hired them for. The price is great and he stays in communication; those are his strong points. Their price made me go with them over someone else.

I first called them and left a message. The owner, John, responded to my call right away. Then I explained the details of the job and I noticed how attentive he was when listening to his customer's needs. John accommodated my schedule and got started on my project almost immediately. Even through the harsh winter weather, John was committed to working on my house in the bitter cold. The weather did not affect the quality of R&G's work because I was very happy with the finished product. I gave John full access to go in and out of the job site, and discovered that he is very trustworthy. I'm thrilled that I found a company that is strong in character, work ethic and craft. I definitely recommend R&G Contracting for your next job. I've never felt more compelled to write a review on Angie's List until now because I knew I had to spread the good word about John's company. I hope you take up the chance to work with them too!

John did a great job. He completed the project in a professional and timely manner. I was most impressed with his attention to detail, which resulted in a very professional finished product. .

John completed the vinyl siding project on my whole house with CertainTeed siding (Pacific Blue). Two new Harvey (sliders) front windows, all new gutters, painting of foundation and front stairs. All new wrapping on existing vinyl windows. The extra was a little door which is an outside storage area underneath the house. John used an aluminum door which is needed because of our harsh winter weather.

Great overall. It was a major project and there were set backs like the rot underneath our siding, but John was responsive, offered several options and recommendations. He was not one that was out to make a buck, but was very honest when lower cost options were just a good as the high cost options. We had a pipe burst from freeze during the the siding and insulation installation. While not ideal, but not predictable, John was responsive and handled coordinating the plumber and fixed the area with no questions asked and no additional charges. Most contractors I would have expected some haggling, but with him, he covered it all and no questions or debate. He was always willing to coordinate the timing with the other contractors (electricians, plumbers, etc.). He was also completely trustworthy. Both of us work long hours and we fully trusted him to come and go as needed in and out of the house. He was very respectful of our home - was careful when coming inside with dirt and cleaned up after himself. We also have three dogs and he was very good to them, which was critical for us. He would always stop to pet them and would let them out if needed. We would recommend him to anyone having work done in their house and would use him again.

I hate giving a bad review. John and I signed a contract and he was supposed to be finished on time I gave him 6 weeks and every other siding company said 1 week max. John was a month over due. John sided over a light on the front of my house and when I told him that he said I was wrong and then we started yelling at each other. He later FOUND the light. Also I told John that he is to do my house and to stay on the job all day until it was done ....days would go by and no John and my brother and friends would go during the day and he was not there. I dread any problems with his work because I never want to deal with him again. He is unprofessional to say the least.

He was very accommodating. I liked what I was getting and if I didn’t, he would pick of it or whatever so. He was good to deal with. I would use him again in the future.

The overall experience was excellent. John came to review the job, took some measurements, and submitted an estimate. His estimate was detailed and fair in light of other estimates we had received. We liked R&G because they were local (West Roxbury) and felt that they would be responsive. Once the estimate was approved, John came out and measured all the windows that were to be replaced and explained that, due to the Chrstmas holidays, it would be 4 - 6 weeks before the new windows arrived from the factory. Because this was an older home, John agreed to do some minor carpentry, where necessary, and did not increase the price of the total job. Once the windows arrived, John was quick to deliver them and began installing them the following Saturday. The windows were all Harvey, double-hung vinyl windows and included the Energy Star upgrade. John completed the second floor windows that weekend and did the first floor the following Saturday. He would have done them sooner, except construction on the street prevented him from parking his truck. John cleaned up each day, as promised, including the removal of the old windows. All gaps were caulked and sealed. The new windows look great, inside and out.

John does great work, he immediately came to our house to scope out the project and give an estimate. He started about five weeks later and went right to work. He is meticulous and very knowledgeable. John and I worked on a email check list system, which helped us to stay on the same page despite me not being home for the entire project. John was able to work with us on price and get the job to where we needed it to be from a cost perspective. I strongly recommend R and G.

The end result of the house was great. John does good quality work for a great price. Also, we ended up having a freak issue with the siding which was not related to the installation. He was great with following up with the siding manufacturer to get this issue resolved to our satisfaction The only issues were that the job took a lot longer than expected/quoted (that's the main reason he's getting a "B'"). I think he was short on man-power at the time. Also, site clean up could have been better... (weather was a factor there)

John Feroli (the owner) did an amazing job on my house. The house was built in 1929 and still had aluminum siding from the 1950s. John provided a very thorough estimate and began the work as discussed. He kept me up to date on the progress and was careful to clarify any changes or questions before moving forward. John is the one of the best contractors I have ever worked with as he is punctual, prompt, actively communicates, identifies potential issues quickly and addresses them immediately and does high quality work. I would highly recommend him as he was a job to work with and I am extremely pleased with all of the work that he did on my home.

The owner, John, was at my home within 30 minutes of my call. He took a quick look around and promised to return the following day to do a more detailed inspection and to repair the piece that had partially blown off. True to his word, the work was done to my satisfaction the following day. He fixed the piece haning off and some other small areas around the gutters.

Overall, the job went well. They used lots of equipment and kept it in our garage, which was pre-arranged and fine with us. The crew did spread out a bit and we had to ask them to maintain a walkthrough for us. The house looks wonderful and was warmer this winter and is quite comfortable on this 97 degree day, which speaks to the good insulation job. John returned our calls in a timely manner and was positively responsive to any requests. Our house was built in the 1800's. I cannot tell you enough, how much we love our new windows! Thanks! The job was begun just before Christmas 2010, and continued throughout a very rough winter with weekly blizzards. The process was very slow due to the weather, but John continued showing up to work reliably, often having to shovel out his work area before getting back to the job. Because John did the majority of all the work himself, we felt confident that it was being done well, and he listened to our concerns and addressed our questions during the process. We hired him based on a recommendation from a friend who'd used him for vinyl siding and was also happy with his work.

The bid we received from R&G was similar to one bid we received out of a total of five ($67,000 the high and $28,000 for the low). The contract was signed in July and work was to begin in September. However, there was a delay in starting the job due to the contractor trying to finish up another job and the weather. Work started in mid to late October and was completed by the first week of December. The job took longer than quoted, but was in line with home owners' expectations based upon the size of the job. In general our interactions with John Feroli, owner of R&G contracting, were positive in comparison to other contractors. John was professional and took the time to listen to what our needs were and did not suggest taking short cut methods. When we had concerns regarding the placement a dumpster in our driveway (e.g. potential damage to the driveway and a neighbor?s property), John made sure that care was taken in placing the dumpster without damaging the driveway. Any areas that were damaged on the house due to the construction process were also repaired in a timely fashion. John was also extremely reasonable when pricing ?out-of-scope? work that was identified during the removal of the old shingles. John also took a very proactive approach to make the final product look refined and met all codes. For example, he framed out an area around a gas fireplace exhaust and used cement board to avoid any fire hazards, resulting in an area that looked like it belonged there. In addition, the work that R&G has done has resulted in a in a significant difference in how much warmer it feels in the house this winter.

We received a very punctual bid from John at R & G Contracting. The price was fairly priced, right in the middle of the other bids. We received the bid in April and hired R&G in May to do the work. John communicated well with us about the start time (late June) and about materials. He also made some good suggestions about how to treat the windows casings, and we decided to go with pre-fabbed casings with mantels instead of repairing and repainting the ones on the building. Our main complaint was that the job (which was not significantly large because it was just the front of the building, not the entire thing) began in June and was not finished until very late October. On many occasions, a couple of weeks would go by with no one coming by to do any work. John would call and keep in touch, and he was always nice and apologetic. But the bottom line is that the job, which probably should have taken 3 weeks from start to finish, took 4 months to get done. The finished job looks fine, with some minor quality issues. For example the corner boards have butt joints that don't line up and so you can see very obvious seams. Also, the window casings were nailed on and the nails were not painted over, so you can see them. From the sidewalk, these might not be noticeable to someone not looking, but once you see them, you can tell that the quality is not over-the-top. The price was fair and communication was better than average, but it was aggravating to see the job drag out for long.
