Services we offer
High end kitchen and bathroom remodels. Fine and finish carpentry. Windows and doors. Custom cabinetry. Cabinetry design and sales. Tile work, painting, electrical, plumbing, flooring (hardwood install, re-finishing, and laminate) and MORE!!
The project went great and the results are beautiful! The planning: Our old kitchen was in pretty sorry shape and needed more than a face lift. I had done some initial planning and layout work (removing a soffit, opening the back hall to accommodate our refrigerator and make room for an island). I also picked our cabinets (KraftMaid Deveron in Pebble Grey) and counters (white quartz) in advance. Per discussions with Tom, we held certain decisions (like the floors) until after demolition so we could see what we were dealing with. The project: Tom is great and kept our kitchen reno on track. During the demoliton, we discovered some unexpected stuff, but Tom explained the issues and options and kept things moving ahead. Our house had a mysteriously missing plumbing pipe and some outdated electrical wiring which added some cost, but got taken care of quickly. The wood floors under the tile were a mess so he recommended we replace them completely (I had hoped to save them). Good call because they are gorgeous now and flow seamlessly from the rest of the house at very little extra cost. Lowes also made a mistake on our cabinet order, but Tom did some custom work for us so we would be on time for the counter install. After the counters and final plumbing, Tom did all the final tasks (attaching knobs, squaring up the cabinet doors, touch ups). We are 99% complete now and our kitchen is really stunning! I opted to hold off on the backsplash until everything was in so we'll finish that later. Throughout the process, Tom was been wonderful. He is capable, honest, punctual and has a great team of people working with him. He kept me updated via text (the best way for me) on schedules, etc. Construction can feel very intrusive, but Tom is a nice presence in the house. I will definitely call on him again for another project.
Description of Work: Thomas J Remodeling managed our kitchen remodel from demolition to final touches. This included demolition, installing new floors, cabinets, counters and window as well as plumbing, plastering, painting and electrical work.

Overall, we are very pleased with our interaction with Tom and with the quality of his work. From the moment I first contacted him to when he finished the job, Tom has always been very responsive. He came by a day or two after I called to come by and give us an estimate. While his estimate wasn't the cheapest we had obtained, he seemed more on top of things than the other handymen we had spoken to. Once we had accepted his quote, he ordered the door and window immediately. He let us know when their delivery might be expected and kept us informed in the interim. We like the quality of the products he used and his workmanship. Additionally, having moved here just a couple of months ago, we were unable to find any snow removal services that had room for new customers. But Tom saved the day - we used his services for snow removal last week when a shovel was simply not going to be enough. We would not hesitate to use his services again.

(member name removed) It was a great pleasure working for you both. If you need anything whatsoever please don't hesitate to contact us!
We had Tom renovate our garage. We had a old carport with a newly done slab to be converted to a full garage. I got three estimates from local remodelers. Tom was right in the middle at $7200 (the other two were approx 6000 and 9000). Tom was the one who was very prompt in getting back and had a reasonable price. Hence, I decided to go with him and took care of most aspects of the job. The work involved doing wall studs, drywall, plaster, paint, installing two pre-hung doors, trim, stairs and baseboards and disposal. Tom did a great job with the studs and drywall. His crew has fast and proficient and completed the work on time. We were very happy with stairs that were robust and very nicely done. We had a few changes to the work along the way. We dropped adding shelves and instead added baseboard. Tom was very helpful in accommodating that and modified the work order promptly to reflect the changes based on agreed upon differences. The door delivery was a few weeks off (I expected three weeks but it took about five weeks), Tom patiently worked around the door delivery schedule to complete the remainder of the work when the doors arrived. However we had a few issues along the way - There was minor damage to a inside wall, which I had to fix myself. (not a big deal, happens sometimes with all work) - Tom seemed to forget our conversation and interchanged the front and back doors. This could have been several thousand dollar disaster; but luckily, the doors were identical except for the width and we had room to play with. In any case this seemed to be a case of miscommunication and even though he interchanged the doors, he had a handle on the dimensions and was confident they would fit - which they did. - He forgot to shim the doors at the hings and drive a screw from the hinge into the jamb, into the stud - as per the door manufacturers instructions for both doors. - Which I assume the manufacture requires in order to honor warranty. I probably will be getting a more experienced carpenter to fix this or maybe will fix it myself if/when I can. I would hire him again. He does a good job for the right price and was prompt in responding and working through the challenges that can come up with remodeling. Definitely easy to work with. Overall - close A, everything was good A, except for the exterior door install. [ A few months later. The doors are sticking to the jambs. The clearance between the jambs are the doors is too little for both doors. I now have to figure out how to re-fix these doors. The constant interference with the jambs is likely to damage the doors irreversibly. I need to hire a carpenter to fix this. Hence my overall assessment is a C due to poor quality of door installation ]

Tom and his assistant arrived on time and did an excellent job installing a vinyl fence around the perimeter of my new rubber garage roof. They were meticulous and the price was very reasonable compared to the other estimates I received. It was a rather difficult job since they had to install the fence posts around the fascia board and not damage the rubber on the roof top. I would certainly use Tom's services for any jobs around my house in the future.

I have been using Tom as our general go-to handyman for about nine months now and the work he does is very good. Tom's strengths are that he is a good communicator and he is very flexible/adaptable. He is prompt in responding to requests and clear and honest in telling you what the options are. He does not have one fixed idea about how things have to be done and is open to brainstorming and suggestions, and he is very good about changing course when circumstances change. He is also very good at making sure the job gets done right - eventually. He stands behind the work of his subcontractors and behaves like an ethical professional when something goes wrong (see below). He was also willing to work with me as sort of a co-general contractor on my kitchen remodel, which was exactly what I was looking for since I wanted to do some of the work myself and get advice so I didn't mess it up. He went through the planning process with me; he gave me advice along the way over email, by phone, and in person; he subcontracted the projects that I didn't want to or couldn't do (or that I started and couldn't finish!); and he personally oversaw the last day of work to make sure that everything was finished to my satisfaction. The problems I had with this particular job were related to Tom's schedule and the work of some of his subcontractors. He got unexpectedly busy and wasn't able to stick to our original planned schedule. Some of the work went unfinished for days or had to be redone, which further stretched out the schedule and stressed me out because sometimes I was going to do the next step but couldn't do it because the groundwork hadn't been laid properly (e.g. I couldn't install the lights because the wiring wasn't right). Tom followed through, though, and made sure that everything got done properly in the end, and along the way came up with creative solutions to help me save money. Overall, I am quite happy with the results. The project which was supposed to take a month took six weeks. On the other hand, because Tom was so flexible in working with me on different parts of the project, it came in under budget.

My overall experience with Tom was excellent. He and his team were professional, prompt, and courteous. They did a good job and left the work space clean after they finished. Tom and his team were professional, personal, punctual, responsive, respectful and they did a great job. Tom came out to scope out the job and provided a bid the next day. He said he'd show up at 7am on the day of the job and the doorbell rang promptly at 7am. His team worked hard, they all made sure the job was done right, and they did a nice job cleaning up afterwards. We're happy with the results and we're glad we found Tom. We already have him lined up to complete some other work for us.

Bad weather and scheduling conflicts on both sides delayed the start of the job, and Thomas kept us up to date with emails so communication was never a problem. The subcontractor he hired did a thorough job and completed the task in one day because he brought enough people to complete it. A very good quality product was used for the deck finish (unlike our previous contractor) and we are very happy with the result. Thomas did the work on the wooden front door along with an assistant. He removed the door, sanded off the old finish, stained, applied wood fill where necessary and polyurethaned it. It looks beautiful. We would definitely use Thomas J Remodeling for other jobs. He has been conscientious and professional in all our dealings with him.
Description of Work: This is the second and third job Thomas J has done for us. He refinished our wooden front door and hired a subcontractor to sand and refinish our large mahogany first floor deck plus a smaller mahogany second floor deck. The first job he did for us was fixing a break in the dryer vent which included opening up a soffit. That job he did on the spot at his first visit to our house and charged a reasonable $60.

We had used Tom for some small home repairs before and he's been very thorough and responsive. The paint job he and his assistant did looks great. He was flexible in the bidding process, accommodating changes when we decided to do some of the work ourselves. He communicated clearly about the schedule and what needed to be done, and he came with the materials and supplies he needed. He has a great attention to detail and made sure the paint job was as good as it could be before he left, and he cleaned up afterwards. But the special bonus feature of Tom is that he knows a lot about a lot of different home repair issues, and when suddenly the switch to our oil burner broke while he was here, he picked up the part the next day and replaced it for us. I really like working with Tom and will definitely call him again for my next project.

Thank you so much for the work. It was a pleasure! Let us know if there's anything else you need!
For our first foray into home renovation, Tom was an excellent choice for a contractor! He patient with us throughout the process as we asked tons of questions and made changes to the schedule due to delays in our cabinets and our own delays. He remained flexible and accommodating throughout the entire process and on top of that his work was well performed and of a great quality. Our space is pretty small, quirky and we were still living in the apartment during the renovation. Tom always cleaned up well after himself so that it was often cleaner after he had left after a day's work than when we he had arrived! I cannot stress how great it was to have a contractor who we could trust and who we knew we could talk to openly about changes we needed to make as we went along. We will definitely be contacting Tom again for whenever we decide to do another project, big or small!
Description of Work: Tom demolished our existing kitchen, build a new closet, installed our custom cabinets and completed all the finish work for the kitchen, including closing our demolished walls, installed trim, patched and sanded the walls and recommended a painter.

[Member name removed] It was such a pleasure working with you two. Let us know if there's anything we can do for you in the future!
Our front storm door was falling apart and winter was coming. After calling several contractors who did not return my calls, we were pleased that Tom called back immediately and came out that same day to see the door and various items that needed fixing. He promptly emailed an estimate for replacing the door and doing a list of other repairs, even including photos of linoleum for us to select from. One item on our list was to replace the flashing that had fallen off the bay window roof, but Tom determined it had rotting wood and holes and the whole bay window roof needed replacing. We were very happy that he did this work for us so quickly, before the onset of winter, thus preventing water damage. He worked hard and carefully, did everything we asked, and cleaned up afterwards. He was friendly and pleasant to work with throughout the few days it took to complete the work. We appreciated his careful explanations about the work he was doing and his willingness to take on additional unscheduled tasks. He took a creative approach to problems, including building an imaginative new shelf in the basement to replace part of a cabinet that was falling off the wall (and did not charge for this). We will be delighted to hire him again and make use of his many skills. We feel he is someone we can rely on when we need work done (unlike some other contractors in the past!).
Description of Work: Ordered and installed new Harvey storm door; repaired knot holes in porch floor; installed metal twine to hold up shower curtain frame; put slider closet door back on track; repaired and painted ceiling and wall areas which had crumbling plaster; installed new linoleum in stairwell; built new shelf in basement. Replaced bay window roof: removed existing roof, crown moulding, and rotted wood; installed new wood roof, roofing membrane, shingles, crown molding, and drip flashing; sealed holes in siding; painted crown molding and fascia. Repaired basement door so it now opens and closes.

Fantastic. Our home looks so much better! It is really worth it to know a good contractor/handy man.
Description of Work: Installed two bathroom vanity cabinets, moved the lights to fit new cabinet vanity, plastered, fixed doorbell, made doorbell ringer box for inside of house, re-hung bathroom sink cabinet doors that were broken, re-installed towel hanger in bathroom, installed pot rack in kitchen, mounted and hung safely and securely several (approx. 20) pieces of art work, many are now "cat-proof" (my calico cat likes to pound the pictures off the wall), installed and purchased under-the-counter kitchen garbage receptacle. Sent us email suggestions for products, many of which we loved. We were impressed with his artistic eye for detail and his complete follow-through, including clean-up. Gave $100 tip on top of what we paid.

Tom, prepared the kitchen sub-flooring for a new tile floor and got it dead on level in an old building. He also demolished the old kitchen. He was able to come right when we needed him and got the job done on time. He arrive on time got the job done within our time frame and cleaned. It whole thing was well coordinated. We are thinking of having him to the flooring as well and install the kitchen from IKEA.
Description of Work: Demolished kitchen in condo and re-leveled floor to accept tile. Demolished bathroom for new fixtures and skim coated several cracks in the apt.
