Dermot and his team are exceptional. Their work is impeccable - right down to the details. I've used Dermot several times for various projects and each has gone perfectly. I had Azec boards installed, replacing my old wood porch floor, front stairs rebuild with Azec with new railings and my back stairs were demo'd and replaced. I would highly recommend using Dermot and his team for any job, large or small, around your home.

Great experience getting a hodgepodge of work done around our 2 family in Boston. Fixed a window bench, sealed two fire places, filled in holes in our crown molding, and a bunch of other stuff.

They advertised a deal then wouldn't even honor it by saying they were too busy, even though I had a 2 month window, they didn't bother asking my time frame, just flat out said they were too busy to help. They shouldn't be advertising a deal they don't intend to honor.

Royal Contracting did an excellent job on all of these projects. They are efficient and reliable, provide excellent suggestions and problem solving, and the finished project has always been completed on-time and on-budget. We highly recommend them.

My porch rebuild project was complicated from a design perspective; I only had a rough drawing of what I wanted for the new porch (which was very different from the existing one). Dermot from Royal Contracting was helpful in resolving the design issues/ challenges. The finish details on my new porch are beautiful...Dermot is a very skilled carpenter. The project was completed in a timely manner.

When we called on a weekday in the early afternoon, he answered the phone, almost immediately. That gave me pause. He asked what we needed, I told him & he asked that we email him. We did so promptly, along with a rough sketch of a floor plan. We never heard back from him. Needless to say, we did not & will never use Royal Contracting.

All in all, very well. It was difficult to get everyone and everything ordered, delivered, installed, and "up and running" on time. The delays we experienced were NOT contractor related ...but rather due to the high-end imported bathroom fixtures (which took forever to arrive from Germany) and delays by the town inspectors. The GC (Dermot) was understanding and patient and dealt w/ every "surprise" as though he'd expected it! He had good ideas and made excellent suggestions for improvements which relieved our concerns and answered our questions. The Royal Team demonstrated different capability levels. If a mistake was made a call went out to the GC and it was corrected ASAP. The town inspectors found no deficits at the final inspection. In summary: We were exceptionally happy w/ the lead plumber (David) who was experienced and proficient w/ fixtures from Germany and Switzerland. A second plumber and his apprentice were less comfortable w/ the higher-end items and installations. Mistakes were made. We were compensated for the mistakes. No argument, no questions asked. (That plumber did not stay on our job until the completion.) The team of 5 electricians were very good. We found that we needed new electrical work done from the roof top to the cellar. Nothing was up to code in "this old house". . It's perfect now. The duo installing the tiles were EXCELLENT. They installed 12"x24" polished Carrara marble tiles on all four walls... They measured three times and cut once! They did an equally excellent job installing the stone floor, They are highly skilled, exceptional workmen, and a credit to their profession. We started this job in November 2016 and weren't able to finish until mid-March 2017 ( the sink and vanity finally arrived from Germany.) It was a long job through the winter. Everyone made the effort to removed their shoes when they came in the house, protected the carpeting w/ adhesive plastic covering, cleaned up after themselves, and were as careful w/ everything as possible. The rest of the work and fine carpentry was done by the GC "himself". I think it's safe to say, "He's seen it all and done it all". It was a pleasure to work w/ Dermot and the team from Royal Contracting.

They did an excellent job, were very neat and professional. I would definitely use him again.

The price is very good. The quality was very uneven. They do good work, but he is just, it is sort of like having a real moody teenager in your home all the time. It’s kind of a drag and is pending a lot of money for that. If the job is very simple, he will do it well. He’s a good worker, but if there is any kind of complication or something, he’s not your guy. It has to be a very simple, straight forward job. The tile was really terrible. I had somebody spray over it after he finished the tile.

See above for work done. the door area looks fine except not good material used. Grease on rug and new closet door.

Never called back. Waste of time. Don't bother

I have used Dermot before. I find him to be very reliable and competent. Easy to work with and does excellent work. The door repair was a big deal--he had to remove a badly cracked panel in an old, oak door, and he replaced it with a new, solid panel. He applied nice molding to make it blend with the rest of the door. He carefully sanded and stained the door. It is absolutely beautiful now--much nicer than a new replacement would have been. He also did considerable restoration of a nice jewel box window, which needed painting, reglazing, and sealing and another small, decorative window on the second story of house that was also in need of similar maintenance. He had to jack up the porch in order to remove the old, rotten wood base to a column. He built a replacement base that blends in beautifully. Dermot is a man of few words, but he is definitely a smart guy, and he does what he says he is going to do and does it well.

I would hire them again if need be and recommend them to others!

Dermot and his employee, Fabio, were absolutely terrific. Dermot came over 2 or 3 times before Fabio began the job, and once Fabio was working, Dermot came again to see how things were going. Fabio was meticulous, cleaned up well after himself, and was pleasant to deal with. All in all, they did a superb job, and both of them were extremely responsible and punctual. While removing the floor tiles, one of the wall tiles closest to the floor broke, and they offered to replace it. Can't ask for better than this.

I contacted Dermot McElligott of Royal Contracting after finding the business on Angies’ List. The company’s website states “No matter what your need, we can help.” A couple of days after leaving a voicemail for Dermot he contacted me and we discussed the project – a privacy fence needed on a roof deck. He suggested I send photos and we would set up a time for somone to come out to provide an estimate. Several days later I was surprised to receive an email from Dermot indicating this was “probably not something we are interested in.” I am very disappointing in this business, clearly they are able to help, but it DEPENDS on what your need is.

Throughout the process, Dermot and his team were friendly, professional, honest, and reliable. Dermot offered us design options and suggestions throughout the process, which we did not expect but were truly grateful for. It was clear that Dermot cared that we were happy and satisfied with the final product. He was fair and honest about any adjustments to the price and completed the work in a timely manner. We could not be happier with the professionalism of Dermot and his team and the quality of work they produced. We would use them again and strongly recommend them!

They work hard. The final bill was over our estimate. I was told there was a 15% surcharge to the materials which I was fine with but they were not able to give my any receipts for the items when I asked. Labor charge was the same amount per hour for junior helpers, and for every trip to the hardware store, so the total bill was quite shocking.

It was okay. There weren't any other charges. He didn't seem to be interested in doing any more work. The job wasn't finished. But, he wasn't interested in scheduling a time to finish the work. I would have given him an 'A' if he had been willing to actually finish the work that needed to be done. I had to find somebody else to do the rest of it. He said it was more than one day and I said, "Well, that's not a problem." We were willing to pay him to do more work but he wasn't interested. It seems like he literally wants the day's worth of work. But, it just would be great to have more follow through on a project to take it through. I understood that we had to pay him extra hours to finish the work, but it would have been great to have been able to do that. We actually had a little back and forth trying to get things scheduled.

Provider was responsive and gave detailed quote. Did not use because he was not available for a few months and I needed work done straight away. However, like I said, prompt and very professiona. Will use again in the future

The crew showed up each day at 7 a..m., as I was told, and worked with little or no break until dinnertimes. They worked diligently and checked in with me from time to time with small questions about how we would like something done. When it was time for finish work they obtained paint that matched both the main parts of the house and the trim. In all ways they MORE than met expectations and we are very satisfied with the result. They finished a day early and I happily paid them on the spot.

They wrote back quickly that they weren't available. Good in a way, but they shouldn't be advertised on the site if they aren't taking jobs.
