During the recent New Year's snowstorm with below zero temperatures and windchills, I lost heat at 11:30 pm. I called Roscia Plumbing and got their answering service. Within 15 minutes, Pat returned my call. He walked me step-by-step on how to reset the boiler after I told him ithe error code that was flashing on the boiler. He was very reassuring when I was nervous about pressing all of these buttons on the front of the boiler. The boiler came back on and he said he would be out the morning to see why it shut off. One of his employees (Dennis) came the next day. He inspected the boiler and it was determined that the boiler shut down because of a wind gust that blew into the intake pipe that runs out of the side of the house. It was a freaky incident. It probably would never happen again. I have used Roscia Plumbing for over 30 years and would never think of using anyone else. After that many years you get to know all of his employees because they all have been with the company for numerous years. All are extremely professional, knowlegable, courteous, and friendly. They are patient when I ask questions and give explanationsthat I can understand. What stands them apart from other service providers is that they are extremely responsive. It's very rare that you get a "live" person on the phone after hours who then relays the problem to Pat . If it's an emergency, they try to get to you the next day or even that day if you call them first thing in the morning. Not that I wish any plumbing/heating problems on anyone, but if you need help, call Roscia Plumbing....you'll be glad you did!

The whole process went well. Everything from coming out to provide the initial quote to the installation of the indirect hot water heater went well. Pat Roscia was very nice and easy to deal with. Roscia Plumbing came in lower with their estimate than 2 other quotes I received from other companies, as well. Overall, I am very pleased with the whole operation, and would definitely recommend Roscia Plumbing.

My mother's oil-fired steam heat furnace was on its last legs. We had to have emergency service to get it started when the first cold snap occurred this Fall. After consulting Angie's list, I asked for bids from three contractors. I included Roscia partly because I had dealt with them before on small jobs, plus they have a very good rating on Angie's List. My family spent some time deciding on oil versus gas. The bids for a gas boiler were somewhat higher because of the extra work to run some gas piping, and the cost to remove the oil tank. We were also concerned about how much oil was in the tank (about $1000 worth when we started), which would be lost. (We were told we would get no credit for any oil in the tank when it was removed.) In addition, the bidders told us that a stainless steel flue liner would be required for a gas furnace. Since we were not sure if a liner was installed or what its condition was, we needed an inspection. The cost of the liner would add to the cost of converting from oil to gas. We also took the advice from one bidder to contact MassSave to see what incentives were available that might reduce the cost. Roscia recommended a chimney sweep for the inspection, so we hired that firm and had an inspection done. (See my separate review of Downeast Chimney Sweep for a description of that job.) Doing that delayed things by about 3 weeks because the chimney sweep was backed up. The chimney turned out to have a liner that was badly damaged and had to be removed. The cost of a new liner was approximately $2000. After discussing all the considerations, we decided to convert to gas. Roscia had the lowest bid for the gas boiler, by a small margin. So I selected Roscia because of their bid and because I already knew them. Pat Roscia gave me an estimated date for the boiler delivery and installation. They said they could do most of the work in one day. The chimney company had an opening in their schedule for November 25, so Roscia said they would install the next day, November 26. (The chimney company was willing to work at the same time as the plumber, but Pat Roscia strongly preferred to work separately to avoid congestion in the cellar from too many people working at once.) The boiler was delivered a few days ahead, and the plumbers did some preliminary work on Thursday and Friday of that week. This reduced the amount they had to do on the installation date. The chimney liner was installed on Monday, November 25, as promised. The plumbers arrived early (about 7 AM) as promised on November 26. With the heat off, the house started to get chilly, so my mother came to my house until the work was done. Work proceeded smoothly and the furnace was up and running by about 4 PM, earlier than had been promised. The furnace has operated satisfactorily since it was installed, except for some extra noise that we are told is from manufacturing oils in the boiler and will dissipate within a couple of weeks. The town plumbing and electrical inspectors signed off on the work on Friday, November 29 (day after Thanksgiving). On December 3, the oil tank was removed, along with the fill piping. The crew was in by 7:30 AM and done and gone by 8:15 AM. By the time the boiler installation was done, the oil level was down to less than 1/8 of a tank, and we had begun to worry about running out of oil in the severe cold snap we had just before the installation was done. We never ran out, but the amount of lost oil must have been quite small. Through it all, Pat Roscia and his crew were very good to work with. Pat kept me constantly informed of when things would happen and details I needed to know. His crewmen were all very polite and cleaned up after themselves when the work was done. They also removed some debris left behind by the chimney people, for which I was grateful. All in all, a very satisfying experience!
Description of Work: Roscia's Plumbing replaced the oil-fired steam boiler (furnace) furnace in my mother's home with a gas-fired steam boiler (furnace). Old oil tank was removed as part of the job, by a sub-contractor,

I called to get an estimate and availability. Pat managed to come out a week later to give an estimate. There were an couple of things that the home inspector recommended we change that Pat said were unnecessary. A week after that, a crew come out and replaced the hot water tank and hoses. They were professional and friendly.

The plumbers installed a new vanity and replaced the shower valve in the bathroom. The 2 plumbers were excellent. They were neat, clean, quiet and did a marvelous job. Replacing the shower valve was involved and tricky. The men were very careful not to break or ruin the tile and did a fantastic job cleaning up afterward. I would highly recommend Roscia's Plumbing and would not hesitate to call them in the future.

Roscia's to the rescue again! On 10/7 I had the Nstar come out and do routine 7 year gas meter change and gas line assessment. They found that there was some dangerous gases leaking through the piping that lead out of the hot water heater and shut the gas off to it and to the furnace stating it was unsafe. I called Roscia's and they were able to come out within 2 hours. The old pipe had grey tape wrapped around the connecting pieces. They found holes underneath the tape and an old gas line without a cap on it. They spent almost 3 hours replacing the old pipe that led to the wall. It was about 20 feet long. they also found that the hot water heater that was only 5 years old was not installed properly and was leaking at the top. The staff always clean up real well and take all the old debris with them. The new pipe is nice and secure and looks very professional. I love that Roscia's is a family and community business. This was about the 4th time I used them. I will always use them for my plumbing and heating needs.

After some fits and starts in connecting with Roscia's Plumbing, we got it done. Toilet no longer leaks, I don't have to shut off the water to the tank anymore, then turn it on and wait for it to fill up by holding down the flapper my self with a screwdriver till the water stays inside the tank. My husband did ask them to take a look at our one handle kitchen sink faucet which leaks when in a certain position, either hot or cold. They said we'd have to make a call for a separate appt.

I called Roscia on Saturday morning and left a message with their answering service. A short time later I received a return call from Jill who was very nice, took my information and after swapping a couple emails gave me an estimate of around $1200. As part of the job I wanted them to repair the venting that goes from the top of the water heater into the chimney stack since it was rotted and had been patched with putty. I sent a picture of the damaged area. Jill said the guys needed to look at in person before determining what it would take to repair, and would only charge me for parts. I also received a call from who I believe is the owner of the company explaining that they'd do their best to try to keep the cost down on the vent repair. I wasn't home when they came to do the work and was expecting a call in work regarding the additional cost of repairing the venting. I never received one and when I got home was surprised to see that everything was complete and not only was the venting from the water heater replaced but the venting from the heating system was also replaced. In addition the final price of the work was about $100 less than the original quote I received from Jill. The work was top quality, the guys who did the work were great and they removed all the old equipment and cleaned up. I'm very happy with the work Roscia did and plan to use them for any other plumbing work I need.

Coming back from vacation on Sunday, May 26 I found my water heater was leaking. I turned off the water to the tank and drained the remaining water. Thankfully it was just leaking not completely gone so clean up wasn't too bad. I knew it was getting old, over 10 years, so not a big surprise. I called Roscia's plumbing about 5:00 pm on that Sunday evening and left a message, within the hour I got a call back. They would come out the next day but being Memorial Day it would cost more or if I waited till Tuesday regular rates. Since it wasn't leaking anymore and one day without hot water is tolerable I waited. They came when promised, 10 pm on Tuesday, installed a new tank, removed the old one, cleaned up nicely and were gone in in about an hour and a half. The owner was very pleasant and called back on a holiday weekend, the plumbers came when promised and did a neat thorough job. Will use them again and would recommend them.

We were in the process of moving into our new house when we noticed water all over the floor in the basement from our water heater which was leaking. Called the company that installed the previous water heater - it was the start of Labor Day weekend and they would not be able to come out until Tuesday (it was Friday). They told me to call the gas company and just rent one from them - said it would be cheaper than paying for a new one. I asked them if they thought it was still under warranty but they were not interested in pursuing that. I did not want to leave this mess until after the weekend so got on Angie's List and called Roscia's Plumbing and Heating. I got a prompt response from someone who said he would get someone out there ASAP and he did! He sent out Joe and Jesse who were great and they also had a new water heater with them that - get this - was still under warranty. I used Roscia's again a few weeks later to hook up our new gas dryer. Would definitely recommend them and would definitely use their services again.

The quote was reasonable. Pat was responsive to our questions after giving us the quote. He also put effort in getting the right model for our power vent gas heaters. He recommended the best place for the new gas heater. His crew did the work, but all through out, he would check with us if everything is okay. On install day, Tom and Joe came. They did their job professionally. No shortcuts with the gas piping installation. They made sure they are placed properly. They cleaned up after their all done. Remove the old electric heater and all the debris. We are happy with the results. We also asked for some plumbing work on our shower to be done. Dennis did fix our shower that is making a bad vibrating sound. I'd say they were efficient and professional. They did an excellent job. I highly recommend this company.

Roscia's work is highly professional. There were no glitches of any kind. They came when they said they would, did what the they said they would and were careful and very helpful throughout. I am very relieved to have found them (through Angie's List) and hope to keep them as our on-call plumbers.

I usually clean out my own drains. But I thought I had some other problems. I decided to let a professional look at it. They called me back the same day , made an appointment, and showed up when they said they would. He inspected the situation and concluded that I only needed my drain snaked. He did it and the problem was corrected. The other problems I thought I had did not exist. I'm glad I let him check out the rest of the pipes. It relieved the fears that I had. Sometime it's best to let. Professional handle it.

This is the third or fourth time Roscia's Plumbing has been to our house repairing or replacing something to do with plumbing . This time it was to replace a water heater under warranty and cleanup the mess in the basement. The old water heater failed while we were out of town. Our neighbor called us about the incident. We called Roscia's Plumbing and they promptly answered the phone and responded immediately. Within a couple of hours the old water heater was replaced and the mess was cleaned up. While they are expensive, I feel it is well worth the money when you can get reliable and quick professional service.
Description of Work: Water heater failed and drained out onto the basement floor. The old water heated which was still under warranty was replaced with a comparable model. I use Roscia's Plumbing for all my plumbing needs after repeated service calls that just end up so perfectly. This particular service call was a Friday afternoon call, with a leak in my basement ceiling which just happened to be underneath my daughters bathroom. I called Pat, and within 30 minutes Dennis came out to a**** what was going on. He explained what the problem was..told me how long it was going to take to repair it, and that if we didn't use the toilet it could wait till the next day to for service when he had more time. That worked out fine for our family. Dennis came the next day when he said he would, he repaired the problem in the time frame he said that it would take, and our leak, and problem is no longer an issue. Being a single mom with no knowledge of how to do some of these repairs, and/or sometimes who to trust..I absolutely would recommend HIGHLY Pat Roscia and all the service employees at Roscia Plumbing for all your needs. They are incredible, honest, kind, and in this day in age it is comforting to have still have service people that work like that around.
