When we first met Mike during the proposal process, he was professional, courteous and understood virtually exactly what we had in mind as far as the remodel. Mike's was prompt in turning around a fair quote (we had received other quotes as well). We felt very comfortable in hiring Mike for the remodel as he came highly recommended by Bravo Kitchens (who we used for the kitchen design and cabinets). It turned out to be the best decision we made during the the whole process. Mike and his team are skilled craftsmen in their respective trade. During any remodel there are unexpected hurdles but with the help of Mike coming up with design ideas and solutions, it was easy to jump over them. When the holidays were approaching I had asked Mike if it was possible to push to have the remodel done (My wife and I had promised/committed to host the family christmas party) by the Saturday before Christmas. Mike without hesitation said yes he could and pushed his team to work hard, late, and on weekends to complete the job all without sacrificing quality. We could not be happier with the finished product. The quality and craftsmanship is noticed as soon as someone walks in the door. Virtually everyone we have had over since are amazed by how beautiful the place looks. We have over the years when living in other houses used various contractors and we can say without hesitation Mike and his team were the best. We have already recommended Mike to family and friends.

We requested an estimate for a bathroom remodel. MF Goodwin was prompt and responsive to this request. Things came up and we could not go through with the remodel at this time. MF Goodwin was understanding and accommodating. I would definitely use them in future. The bid seemed very reasonable.

Mike Goodwin and his team did a great job! Our house is over 100 years old and new piping and venting needed to be installed which meant ripping/gutting out the whole bathroom. Mike's guys started the project and as projected took 3 weeks, the only delays in the project was getting the city inspectors in the house. The team was always on time, professional and cleaned up every night. I was hesitant at first to leave them alone in the house but I quickly got over that as I become familiar to the workers. I left a key out for them so they could get access in the morning and they always locked up when they left. Communication with Mike was excellent, I was able to reach him by text or email and I always received a prompt reply. Even when the job was completed, the tiling started to crack a little, I promptly called Mike and he had his tiler were there that day to fix the problem. Any kitchen or bathroom renovation I would call Mike Goodwin again.

Demolition of the kitchen and dining room was finished in a day and a half. The support beams needed to be reinforced due to a prior construction job. We also needed to have a lally column installed in the basement to bring the house up to code. Anderson windows were installed in the kitchen and dining room. The plumber came in and added new water lines for the washer/dryer, refrigerator with ice dispenser, dishwasher and sink. He also extended the gas line into the kitchen for our new gas range. New baseboard heat strips were installed in the dining room. Next, the electrician came in and completely rewired the kitchen and dining room. He installed pot lights in the kitchen as well as a pendant light over the sink, pendant lights over the island, a semi flush mount pendant in the dining room and a light for the back porch. It was also necessary to put in new circuits for the microwave hood, refrigerator, washer/dryer, dishwasher and garbage disposal. The walls and ceiling were blueboarded and plastered in the kitchen and dining room as well as the coat closet and the washer/dryer closet. Then the durock and cement went down on the floors. Mike's tile man (Carlos) needed to use a lot of durock and cement on the floor just to make it level for the porcelain tile that we had picked out. Our cabinets were installed, appliances installed and countertop installed. Mike's men (Chris & Claudio) felt like family by the time the project was finished. One or the other or both of them were at our home every day to make sure that the job flowed without any major problems. I would hire Mike Goodwin again in a heartbeat. He was a pleasure to work with; totally professional. He takes pride in his work and it shows through with the people that he hires as his subs.
Description of Work: Project was for a completion demolition and renovation of kitchen and dining room. All the appliances and electrical fixtures were disconnected. The walls and ceiling were gutted down to the studs. The flooring was taken up to the subfloor. The windows in the kitchen and dining room were replaced. A closet was modified for a stackable washer/dryer. Fiberglass insulation was installed in all exterior walls and ceiling to bring the rooms up to code. The walls and ceiling were blueboarded, plastered and painted. The floors were leveled with Durock tile underlayment. The closet doors were replaced with pine doors. The kitchen and dining room were rewired to bring it up to code. Plumbing was disconnected from existing fixtures. Gas line was extended from basement to kitchen for new range. New water lines were added for the washer and dryer.

Working with Mike and his team was effortless. Mike's initial visit was prompt and he provide a very reasonable quote. I obtained one other quote and decided to work with MF Goodwin. Mike suggested I contact Jen at The Tile Source in Beverly, MA. Jen was very helpful and with all of her customers, she still remembered my remodel. At the last minute, I changed my order but she was still pleasant and extremely helpful. She held the tile for me for a few months so the remodel could take place while I was on vacation. I was very hesitant to have work done on my condo when I was not there. This is the first time I was not present for a home improvement project. Mike made me feel very comfortable and he was always accessible by phone or email. Carlos, the expert tile guy was very precise and his attention to detail was impressive. I had glass accent tile and Carlos would not lay the tile until he was able to mix both sanded and unsanded grout. He didn't want the tile to crack with time. He went out of his way to pick up the sanded grout from the same manufacturer which I did not initially purchase. And he offered a suggestion for the alcove/niche built into the wall that worked out great. Dan did a great job painting. He took a lot of time to prep the walls which were in pretty tough shape. Although the bathroom is on the small size, it does have high ceilings which makes painting a challenge. I love having an actual porcelain tub that Mike picked up for me. Mike also advised on the fixtures I purchased. I did purchase a 1-hole sink faucet that I had to exchange at the last minute so I think that was the only glitch and it was my fault. I was unable to purchase a 3-hole faucet to match the shower so in time I may replace the vanity and install the matching faucet. The estimate was actually a little below the final price due to a little less charged for painting. All-in-all, working with Mike and his team was positive and I would most definitely hire them again.

Working with Mike and the whole M F Goodwin crew was a very positive experience. Mike is very knowledgable about what needed to be done and gave us some good advice on the job. The initial quote was competitive and Mike worked with us to keep the price down. Once all the stock was in place they started right away. The demolition was amazingly clean and efficient. Step by step Mike kept us informed as to how it was going and what to expect next. All the crews were punctual and polite and the workplace and immediate area were left clean every day. Everything went smoothly and the disruption to our household was kept to a minimum. Along the way there were a few surprises and issues, as there always are, but these were dealt with very quickly and professionally by Mike and the crew. There was no delay in the schedule, with one of the crews even coming by on a Sunday to ensure that we stayed on schedule. The job was finished on time and on budget. The biggest delay was due to getting the town inspectors to come by and sign off on the work. This is out of Mike's control and it did not cause much of a delay. All in all the project went as well as I could have possibly hoped for. Mike and his crews are to be commended for a great job from start to finnish. I would not hesitate to recommend M F Goodwin to anyone that wants a job well done on time and on budget. I will definitely use them for my next project.

Mike and his crew were an absolute pleasure to work with from Day 1. Mike redid our entire kitchen which---being in an 1850's era home--was full of surprises. Mike was one of the most communicative and responsive contractors that I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He always picks up his cell phone and is happy to answer even the most mundane questions. He's also incredibly responsive via email and I was never in the dark about where we stood in terms of the project and the timeline. Despite his busy schedule, Mike was always willing to drop everything and come take a look at things when I had questions along the way. Mike's crew showed up on time (or early) every day and put in a full day's work throughout the project. The gentleman who did the carpentry work was outstanding and the attention to detail was top notch. Mike's guys built us a corner banquette and framed out 3 new windows---they all look great. We couldn't be happier with our new kitchen and we're looking forward to the day when we have enough money to hire Mike to redo our bathroom!
Description of Work: Moderate Kitchen Remodel: Mike removed and replaced all of our kitchen cabinetry and shelving, installed all new appliances, replaced 3 windows, removed the old flooring, leveled the subfloor and installed new hardwood floor. In addition, we had all new electrical run from the panel and some new plumbing done to tie in the new sink and faucet.

We were completely happy with the end result. We tried to save as much original tile as possible, and you would never know that we the tilework was done at separate times. Everything looked great. Mike was extremely busy and he worked hard to get our job completed before Christmas. His subs came in on time and were friendly and very respectful. We are planning to do a kitchen remodel shortly and will be using Mike again!
Description of Work: Mike and his team replaced a tub in our bathroom. We had just moved in there was a leak from an old jacuzzi tub coming through a hole in the celing onto our stairs. They replaced the tub and surrounding tiles and repaired the hole in the ceiling.

We could not be more pleased with the workmanship, the experience, and the outcome. The job was completed on time and on budget. Mike and his team are all professional. It is obvious they work together all the time. They walk in the door and and first thing they did was put down the tarps protecting my floors. They cleaned up after themselves everyday - everything picked up and swept. Things do come up when you remodel (this is not our first remodel), and Mike shows you what the issue is and gives you options. The payment schedule was appropriate. Mike was responsive to questions. He always let me know who was coming when and what the plan was. We will definitely use Mike for future projects, and I am more than happy to be a reference for him; he is a pleasure to work with. Mike gave me 4 recent references for bathrooms he completed; I called all 4 and they raved about him.
Description of Work: This was a remodel of a very small master bathroom. Note: the amount spent is inclusive of materials which were purchased separately by the the us, the homeowners. It was a complete gut, so it included new insulation, walls and ceiling, tiling of the entire shower and bathroom floor, addition of vent fan (which was not there before), additional outlets and lighting, recessed medicine cabinet, vanity and granite top, shower door, shelving, plumbing and fixtures, new woodwork, painting, etc.

Overall, working with Mike and his team was a great experience. This project was about 6 months in making before Mike actually started the actual construction. In those early days, Mike willingly participated in Design Reviews with the Bathroom Designer and helped identify key areas of focus that would need special attention from a design & build point of view. This I am sure eliminated any trouble or downtime along the way once the construction started. Once the work began, Mike's guys always left the work areas clean and organized at the end of each day, with absolutely no mess outside of the work area. Throughout the entire process, Mike was always in communication via email with status and next steps. Along the way a few questions and concerns came up, which he handled immediately. In one case, I had a question about the tileing process and he asked his Tile guy to come over and work with me directly. At the completion of the project the adjoining hallway and Master Bedroom was getting a new hardwood floor. I discovered a big problem with the subfloor. II reached out to Mike for his expertise, and at nearly the last minute, which was not part of the project from his point of view, he was able to squeeze in some time on a long Saturday to make all the repairs necessary so that the hardwood floor could be properly installed as scheduled. Bottom line on this is that Mike is fantastic to work. Not sure what's next for us, but he'll be the guy I call!

From initial in home consultation with Mike we knew that our kitchen renovation was going to be a great experience with him. Prior to meeting Mike we had multiple contractors in to look at the space and have them provide us with a quote for the services. Mike was different than all of the contractors that we met--he's responsive, he does a thorough job explaining all the details and most importantly he truly cares about his work. Once the work began Mike was extremely efficient. He always kept us well informed throughout the whole process and was always available to answer our questions and to listen to any concerns we had. The construction itself is finely detailed. It's obvious from the result of our kitchen that he takes pride in his work. His friendly and professional demeanor mixed with his knowledge and craftsmanship makes him a contractor you want on your side. Now that construction is complete Mike remains a friend. We will be calling him again when we redo our bathroom!
Description of Work: We had a full renovation of the existing kitchen that was in the home that we recently bought. It included moving walls, moving windows, moving heating/ air, updating lights and electricity, new appliances, new cabinets and granite counter tops.

Great. Really. The bath designer that we used referred us to Mike as the "only contractor that they will use". We had a number of questions before the project started and Mike was willing and flexible in coming over to provide information and discuss ideas. Throughout our project Mike kept us constantly updated on the progress. He was always open to adjustments or answering questions and promptly returned calls. Mike is excellent at tracking open items - even those that were quite minute - and making sure they got done. As such, we didn't feel as if we had to manage him and the project. Because he is highly committed to quality work and is a talented finish carpenter, he would proactively identify items requiring attention and addressing it himself or making sure the others on his team got them done. He was always on time or would advise us if the schedule needed to change - which was usually something not under his control. When things went wrong - and hopefully you know that something will - he was quick to suggest what could be done to address it or have an alternate solution in place. For example, a cabinet piece arrived from the trucking company damaged and he was there to make sure we had an operational sink in place until the replacement cabinetry came. Mike is very approachable, personable and a man of integrity. We always felt safe with him in our home. Simply put, we are in agreement with the bath designer - he is the only contractor we will use from now on.

Their estimate was for $9500. They were very friendly. They took a little while to get the estimate to me. They took three weeks to get it but they apologized for the delay. They were very nice. Their estimate came in pretty high and it did not include any materials or plumbing. It was a very high estimate and so, I definitely did not end up using them. The other thing was that they said that they would take three weeks to do the job whereas everybody else estimated for about two weeks. They seemed to be very busy. They were nice and they did come through with the estimate. However, their price was a little high and they were going to take a lot longer. The fact that they took three weeks to get back to me with the estimate was not a good sign and I wondered that they would take an extra scheduling with the job. They were on time.

Mike was very responsive and responsible right from our first meeting. I had a good idea of what I wanted and he cued right into my design. He gave me a detailed written estimate. Among the 5 estimates I received Mike's price was right in the middle of the pack but he seemed to have a lot of experience and I just felt the most comfortable with him. When the job started right on time, he kept me fully informed as to what was scheduled, calling if there were any glitches. What was important to my husband was that the disruption be kept to a minimum so Mike went out of his way to set up a temporary kitchen for us. When any unexpected issues arose, we discussed how to resolve it and Mike was able to come up with some brilliant solutions. I'm thrilled with the end result; it was all so professionally done and I would highly recommend Mike and his company.
Description of Work: We did a large kitchen remodel, took down a wall, installed a gas fireplace, installed new bookcases, installed hardwood floors throughout, new appliances, overhead lighting, and a new 1/2 bath. The entire 1st floor was painted. The whole project took approximately 5 weeks. We had the cabinets made by a custom cabinet maker. Mike's company did all the work with the exception of the cabinet and countertop install. Mike pulled the appropriate permits and met with the town inspectors to get the approvals.

The entire experience was very smooth from start to finish. We first contacted Mike for an estimate after reading about him on Angie's list. He referred us to a kitchen designer/cabinet seller to come up with a layout. Once the layout was complete he gave us a detailed estimate for the job. We got two additional estimates from other contractors and Mike was the lowest of the three. There were a couple of iterations before coming to the final design, and he gave us advice on how to keep costs down and provided updated estimates as we finalized the layout. Once the cabinets were delivered and work started, the job went very quickly. All of the subcontractors came in when they were needed and kept the work flowing with no interruptions. During the entire demo and construction period, Mike kept the work area sealed off from the rest of the house keeping dust to a minimum. Throughout the process he was very responsive to questions and concerns. He responded quickly to calls and emails. The job finished right on time, after 5 weeks. The kitchen looks beautiful and we could not be more pleased with the way things turned out.
Description of Work: Mike Goodwin was the general contractor for a complete kitchen remodel at my house. He managed the job from start to finish. The project involved tearing out the old cabinets, floors, ceilings and sheetrock. A large portion of a load-bearing wall was also removed and a supporting beam installed. New floors, walls, wiring, cabinets and plumbing were installed. A new exterior door was also installed. Mike did all of the carpentry work himself, along with another carpenter. He brought in subcontractors for demolition, electrical, plumbing, hardwood floors, sheetrock/plaster and painting.

Mike was a pleasure to deal with. Mike provided a clear and accurate quote in a timely manner, easily answered all our questions, and stayed in touch throughout the entire project. With the doors on order, he kept us up to date with regular emails on estimated install dates. Mike always provided a quick reply by email if we fired off a question or two while we waited.. As each door arrived, he made arrangements with us to set up the work dates. The front door required additional exterior trim, upgraded protective flashing, and new surrounding clapboards, which he handled with ease. I was around the house when Mike installed the Front and the Basement doors and was impressed with his expertise and craftsmanship to ensure it was done "right". Kudos to Kevin his helper, as well.
Description of Work: Mike installed three main entryway doors, and replaced a number of rotted trim boards on the outside of the house over a 2 month period this past Fall. We have a small 4 bedroom colonial that was built in 1997. Shoddy construction in 1997 was the cause of significant wood rot that was discovered in both the front and back doors, and it was time to simply replace both completely. The third door was an add-on we had been considering for the last couple of years, which was a large double door in the basement that lead directly into the garage. The Front Door was a Therma-Tru Door with two side lights and a transom above. The Back Door was an Anderson Frenchwood Double Pane 400 Series Slider. The basement door was a generic 5' smooth fiberglass Fire rated double door. The exterior trim was simply a maintenance item on primarily the south facing side of the house, and we opted for the Azek Composite Trim.

We were very happy with the overall experience - the process and the end result. Mike gave us a detailed estimate before starting and worked with us when the inevitable small details along the way needed resolving. Some of the modifications involved additional charges, but Mike was very reasonable and there were never any surprises. There were times when Mike really went above and beyond. When I inadvertently ordered the wrong tub and needed to return it to the big box store where I purchased it, it was too large to fit in my car. Mike offered to return it for me, which made my life a lot easier! Another example of him going above and beyond was with the lighting in our upstairs bath - he had the electricians wire the fan so that the light and fan were on separate switches - also the light over the sink has its own switch, so we can just turn on what we need when we need it. I also appreciated how clean they left the job site at the end of each day. We could not be happier with the quality of the work.
Description of Work: Mike and his team renovated a full bath and a 1/2 bath for us. The 1/2 bath involved removing existing vinyl tile and the subfloor (contaminated with cat pee!) and replacing with a marble tile; tearing out old vanity and replacing with pedastal sink; replacing toilet; and painting the room. (No pipes were moved.) The full bath job involved tearing out the floor and fixtures, moving plumbing to relocate the sink, laying a marble tile floor, installing new tub, sink, toilet medicine cabinet, and venting for a new fan/light fixture, patching drywall and painting. Mike also did some carpentry work in our finished basement - building out a closet.

The best part of working with Mike is his communication. He always returns calls promptly. I really felt listened to at every phase of the renovation. He was clear about the process, explaining what was going to happen and when. His invoices were clear and itemized; I always knew what I was paying for. His attention to detail was exceptional. The decorative tile work and the cabinet moldings were perfectly and painstakingly done. There were some complicated cabinet installations which were done perfectly. It was clear he really cared about the quality of my kitchen and how I felt about the work. I would highly recommend him, he is great to work with, is trustworthy and straightforward, and does an excellent job. In terms of price, I got 6 estimates before I started and they were all pretty much in the same ballpark, including his; he is reasonable.
Description of Work: Mike Goodwin & his crew totally renovated my kitchen. Installed new cabinets, hardwood flooring, appliances, insulation, door, tile backsplash, lighting/electrical, updated plumbing, and painting. He does the labor, does not supply cabinetry or fixtures, which is what I preferred. I wanted to buy my fixtures & appliances on line to save money, got my cabinets from a great cabinet company. Mike & Co did the demolition, installations, and everything else needed to put it all together, plus gave good advice whenever I asked. My kitchen is about 11x10 ft.

I contacted 3 companies for an estimate on replacing existing wooden stairs with composite material and replacement of a steel door and the framework. I received a call from Mike within a few days and he came out for an estimate at the time he stated. The estimate was similar to another I had received. (The third company never called) I chose Mike because he seemed like he'd be easy to work with and I found this to be true. He brought over some of the Azek composite material for us to look at and choose a color. Also we were given a brochure detailing different types of fiberglass doors. We set an agreed upon date (approx 3 weeks out). He called prior to coming to confirm and he and another gentleman arrived to begin work at the stated date and time. It was 95 degrees on both days they were here and the job was in direct sun most of the time. Not exactly an ideal work condition, but they worked all day and a few hours the next day. The job was beautiful and everything was left clean. We plan to use Mike Goodwin for another job in the winter.
Description of Work: Replace fiberglass door and framework. Take down and rebuild stairs leading to side of house.

Mike was very good. He explained what he intended to do to conform to our designs. He explained extra cost items for preapproval. He has a plumber and electrician who are readily available to keep the job on schedule. He was able to work with other companies i.e. the counter people to keep a tight schedule. His invoices were very detailed so we understood what was in the estimate and what was an extra cost item. We like his work so much that we hired him to install the vanities and tile work in our two bathrooms.
Description of Work: Installed kitchen cabinets and kitchen appliances. Installed water heater and laundry sink. Remodeled two closets moving doors and lights. Moved cable connections, phone connections and added outlets. Remodeled laundry room for relocated washer/dryer.
