I bought an Angie's Deal for 2 hours of carpentry. It was supposed to expire in June but he said it would be OK to wait until later. When I contacted him, he emailed me and I gave him a list of things I needed done but he did not come and actually see the work first. When I emailed him, he asked me when I would be available and if I would be available on Saturday mornings. I told him that some Saturday mornings would be OK. What happened is that he understood me to say that THIS coming saturday morning would be find and he showed up at my door with an xtra man. From my description of what needed to be done he determined that it would take an additional person to help him do the work. As it turned out, it did not take nearly as long as he thought it would, but because he had brought the additional person, I had to pay him an additional $55 for the extra man. He was really nice enough and seemed to know his stuff with respect to repairs, I just wish his communication was better and that he would have come personally to look at the jobs BEFORE just coming to do them (again, with an xtra person I'd have to pay). For example, I needed him to fix the lock, and to put in a new lock because I had lost the key to the old lock. He did not understand that and as a result, just took the plate off the old lock, oiled it, and screwed the outside of the same lock to the door. The door still would not close well and the old lock still would not work. I had to pay a locksmith $88 to come and change the lock and fix the door - - exactly what I had asked him to do in the first place. He finished the work in much less time and I ended up paying for the full 2 hours PLUS the additional person (not to mention the additonal $88 to the lock smith). I could have found more things for him to do if I had known that there wasn't enough to fill 2 hours. I could also have avoided paying and extra $55 over and above the Angies Deal because the other man would not have been necessary, I think that good communication and in-person estimate would have made all the difference. Had I known that he would bring another person that I'd have to PAY, Ii would have likely waited.. Had I known that he actually could not replace the lock and fix the door, I would have tried to find other things for him to do to use up the time. I did not feel that the Angie's deal saved me any money and moreover, actually cost me more money. Ii am disappointed because he is a nice guy, just not very detailed oriented and slow enough to hear what I really needed.

Although the job entailed more than I thought it would, they went above and beyond to complete my request. Very pleasant to work with, and left the house as clean as it was when they started. I would recommend!
Description of Work: Chris installed a ceiling support bar for a swing in the basement and a grab bar in the bathroom. He also replaced some trim moulding that was missing due to a drywall repair. The ceiling support bar Involved a little extra work in taking down and reassembling the drop ceiling, but he was happy to oblige. He exhibited the utmost professionalism.

It went well all around. It was done very quickly.
Description of Work: They helped locate a leak between upstairs and downstairs bathrooms and repaired the considerable plaster board wall and ceiling damage. Then, they painted the repaired plaster walls and ceiling, regrouted the upstairs shower stall, reset and caulked the show door, replaced loose tiles. They were quick, clean, and did beautiful work. They were also very nice to have around.

I knew very well that we had multiple odd jobs to do in the house when I signed on for the 99 dollars. I figured it wold give me a chance to see if I wanted to hire this handyman. Well, I did! And not only am I pleased, I now feel like I have an ally in the upkeep of this very old house. Chris is prompt, knowledgeable, and professional. His work is beautiful. His prices are fair.

Had some initial issues making contact but probably related to problems on my end as when we did connect he was extremely professional, reliable and able to schedule the work in short period of time. He did a great job tackling everything on the list and gave me detailed instructions on how to take care of the shower tile going forward. He was very thorough and saved us a major future headache by solving the problem now. He even took care of an outdoor project in the rain! Very satisfied with his skills and professionalism. Will use again.

Chris's (the owner) son ryan came out and did the work, without a stop. we used a $99 for 2 hours of work coupon, in order to get a couple of "nagging" tasks done. ryan worked diligently, got it all done efficiently, cleaned up after himself, and did a good job on the 2 tasks. the reason i gave them a "c" in responsiveness, is i initially called in early december, and they said they would call back in a few days. when they didn't by 1 jan., i called them again, and they apologized saying they had lost my info. they then scheduled me for an early date, so i wouldn't have to wait too long.

These guys are amazing! It's a father and son team, and they do meticulous work, and very quickly. I basically have a handyman punchlist, and had found them from an Angie's List Deal. What a bargain. In terms of hiding the wires on the flat screen, I had someone else come out who said they could do it, but basically wanted to tear apart my wall. These guys have obviously done this before. It was done in about 30 minutes and it's seamless. As for the rest of the punchlist, every job was done in a way that makes me confident that the fix will last. Many of these items have been "fixed" by other folks only to last a few days. Not this time. These guys do major remodel work, so I'm sure I only got them because of downtime for winter, but what a treat!

Chris came out and looked at the work that needed to be done. He said he could start the project within the next two weeks and could have it done quickly. He really gave me a lot of hope as other contractors have not responded. He told me he would send me an estimate and we would go from there. A week went by and I didn't hear from him so I sent him an email - it bounced back to me. I then called and left a message for him and he never returned my call. I don't understand why a company would waste tiem coming out, assessing the work and then just ignore the customer. Very upsetting!

I would neither use this company again nor would I ever recommend them to anyone!! My husband and I feel terribly ripped off and grossly overcharged for the services completed in our home. I"m taking the time to write this review so no one else has such a negative experience as we did. It was unfortunate, and a big learning experience (and expensive one), but there's no reason anyone else has to be ripped off by "this company" as we were.
Description of Work: I bought CJ's special 2 hours of handyman service for $$99 and was initially very impressed with Ryan, owners son. He came over and got some very basic work done for me(hung shelves, etc., nothing too detailed or complicated). He seemed like a nice, honest guy, so I had him return to replace a toilet. I was quoted $131. for labor and materials. He called just a few days after sending the estimate and said he could come over that morning because of an opening in his schedule. I told him I'd love that but hadn't been able to pick up the new toilet yet. Ryan said he was close to a Home Depot and would gladly pick up the model we discussed would be best for my bathroom. I thought because this was the start of a long working relationship (though my house is fairly new, we recently bought it and have a number of things we'd like to do on the interior) that he was picking it up as a courtesy and convenient that day. Little did I know that he was charging me a 26% mark-up and $110 an hour for the two of them on top of the $130 estimate for labor/installation (which included 2 hours of labor for the toilet) and materials. Turns out the toilet that was purchased was more expensive than the one we agreed upon, he didn't provide a receipt (I had to go online and look up the price after he left), and it took two of them nearly two hours to install it. They were here a third hour which was spent with Ryan hanging more shelves and Chris installing one shelf in kitchen cabinet. They were here from 11:30am - 2:30pm - 3 hours. A good part of this time was spent walking them both around and talking about all the things I wanted done in the coming weeks/months. Little did I know that they were charging me, again, $110 an hour for that. I would have never done that. When it came time to pay at the 3-hour mark, Ryan said I owed him a whopping $705! Whoa. I later found out how he justified that amount - Toilet and materials (materials I thought were included in $130 estimate - clearly stated $260.00 Installation.labor and more materials??? $130.00 Labor 1.5 hours at $55/per person/hour after installation of toilet for Chris (to install ONE KITCHEN SHELF?!!??? 3 hours at $55 per person/hour for Ryan to put up 3 Potteyrbarn shelves? $400 My problems with this: 1. They weren't at my house a moment longer than 3 hours - bad business and unprofessional to rip people off with their watch. 2. The job not only should have taken less than 2 hours for one person to do, but it took 2 hours for 2 people to do - I paid double labor fees for the toilet installation. 3. They left without providing any receipts or detail of bill. Yes, I should have pressed further, but in my arms was my new 8-wk-old daughter and my 2-yr-old son. I had my hands a bit full and didn't really have the time or energy to confront the issue at that given time. I should have. When they left I did the math in my head and nothing added up. I since sent Ryan emails and that's when I learned about the 26% mark-up and that they thought they were there 3.5 hours. He didn't respond to my inquiry about it taking Chris 1.5 hours to install an MDF shelf in my kitchen cabinet or that I paid double labor for two of them to spend 2 hours installing the toilet or not being upfront and honest about their hidden fees.

Chris and Ryan quickly fixed a vexing but common problem on our deck: Bolts holding in handrails on our deck sheered off. I could not make a dent trying to remove them despite trying several techniques. Chris and Ryan drilled out the bolts and replaced them so there was no need to drill new holes in the supporting beams (which are old, but otherwise in great shape). A straightforward job, yes, but they finished it quickly, even including the clean up afterwards. Chris and Ryan knowledgeably evaluated other projects we need involving finish work that has been neglected for decades, so we hope to see them in the future.

The whole process went very well...Ryan responded to my requests in a timely manner, and the quality of the work was excellent. He and his team were professional, enthusiastic, and certainly competent. It is nice to know that I can count on CJ's to be there when I need them...being a home owner there is always something that needs to be done, and the team at CJ's takes the stress out of the process...from quoting to consulting to delivering!
Description of Work: Ryan and team repaired some railings on my front farmer's porch and main entrance. I had purchased the materials but never got around to doing the repairs myself...I took advantage of an Angie's List Big Deal for this work - and I expect to use CJ's Finish Carpentry again in the future.

Chris pulled into my driveway behind the window delivery truck, unloaded it and was working within 15 minutes. He wasn't the cheapest estimate, but the work reflected the cost. I called him with a "stupid question" about one of the grill inserts and he like always took my call and walked me through what I needed to do.
Description of Work: I hired CJ Finish carpentry once again, this time to replace the large picture window in the front of my house, with 3 side by side double hung anderson windows. He gutted the old window back to the studs replaced the windows, re insulated and flashed. He trimmed the outside with vinyl trim and the inside with natural pine. #1 Glad I went with the complete gut and replacement of the window as apposed to the simple replacement window someone else quoted for cheaper. #2 Glad I went with the vinyl trim even though its more expensive. #3 He pulled into the driveway right behind the delivery truck with the window, and was done by noon. Chris Jones never comes back as the lowest bidder, but the work will be done right and he doesn't cut the corners that have become popular with "knackers" . I also like hiring him for things like windows because he is a General Contractor and will alert you to any issues he may find while doing simple repairs, he doesn't "paint over" problems.
