This is the worst contractor experience I've ever had in all my years of home ownership. I've waited almost a year to leave this review because I wanted to give myself time to calm down to be able to give an objective review. The following is a list of only some of the issues that occurred, any one of which would be cause for an F rating: 1. NOT LEAD SAFE - My house was built in 1900 and I have two small children (one was 7 months at time of painting) so this was the first thing I requested for all painters who gave a quote and was very important to my wife and I. The first guys that were sent to the house did absolutely no clean up prep let alone any Lead Safe prep. When I complained they came the next day and just put some plastic down. When a new crew was requested for other reasons they made a little more of an effort but obviously had no idea how to prep a house using the Lead Safe precautions. They will tell you that all their employees have taken the Lead Safe certification course and they will show you a certificate that the owners brother took the course. Taking the course does not mean they will properly prep your house. It takes 20 minutes of Googling Lead Safe practices to know that they had no idea what they were doing when it came to this. Months later I was still picking up paint chips in the yard where my kids play and for a while I was too afraid to let them play in the yard. If proper Lead Safe work is important to you then steer very clear of these guys. 2. GOT PAINT ON EVERY SECTION OF MY ROOF (see pics) - Believe it or not on more then one occasion they managed to get a significant amount of paint on every one of the 6 sections of my roof. The first crew literally sprayed primer onto four different sections of my roof up to 6 feet up from the gutter. Other sections had large amounts of paint that was just dropped onto the roof because the workers failed to put down drop cloths, which still just amazes me. Putting down drop cloths is the easiest and most obvious thing a painter should do and they couldn't even do that. Now this was very noticeable from the street on most of the sections and looked terrible. This was a brand new roof, not even a year old, and I had to have the roofers come and replace 4 sections of the roof (the other 2 they couldn't do anything about because it was a rubber roof). The cost of the roof repairs was covered by Motti, $2,900 worth. 3. THEY GOT PAINT EVERYWHERE - A short list of the things they got paint on that couldn't come off; our deck (which wasn't part of the job), our stone front stairs, our bushes and hydrangeas (almost instantly killing all the flowers for the summer), a tarp covering my kids sandbox, down spout extensions, new black mulch, and worst of all white paint handprints on the inside of every first floor dark stained window they worked on (see pic). 4. THE JOB TOOK 7 WEEKS!! - That is not a typo. From the first day they arrived until the last day I couldn't stand having them come back was 49 days (10 rain days during this time). I was told the job would take 2 weeks tops and that was with a couple of rain days. There was a two day delay when we had to switch crews because I didn't want the ones who painted my new roof to come back but that combined with the rain days was still 37 days! I still can't quite comprehend how it took that long but some of it had to do with the next item. 5. EMPLOYEES CONSTANTLY ON THIER PHONES (see pics) - In addition to not being good at painting the employees were always on their phones or chatting. It was a rare occurrence for me to look out the window and not see an employee on his phone. It didn't matter if he was on the roof or three stories up on a ladder they were checking their phone or texting. It was so bad I had two different neighbors approach me separately to tell me that the guys working on my house were barely working and on their phones constantly. I complained a couple of times but this didn't really change unless the owners brother was there, which was maybe a total of 3 days. 6. FLAT OUT POOR QUALITY - The Lead Safe and roof fiasco aside the paint and carpentry job was just very poor quality. We had several walkthroughs where I pointed out things that weren't even painted. Towards the end when the owners brother was trying to do a final push to get the job finished they raced through the trim and edging looked terrible. They flat out missed spots. They didn't properly clean areas they were about to paint. I caught one guy painting the porch floor with a thick layer of pollen on it. The carpenter scratched 4 of the windows (original panes of glass that have been there for over 115 years), and at least two of my interior window casings are loose. They lost two of my gutters, this is not a joke, because they put them under my porch and then encased them in there when they installed lattice to close up underneath the porch. So they had to open it back up and reinstall after getting the gutters, which wasn't done with care because I was able to pull one of the baseboards clean off because they forgot to nail it in. I had to point out that the two gutters were missing and not painted. One of the storm widows doesn't lineup with the interior sash window and another one is noticeably crooked. One month after they were "finished" there was bubbling on a window in the front of the house. I am now noticing peeling all around the house. On the exterior walls and on the trim. I can't tell you how frustrating this is. 7. WORTHLESS WARRANTY - They offer a 5 year warranty on all the painting when you use Benjamin Moore (which we did). The problem is I wouldn't have these guys back to my house if they paid me for the privilege. A lot of the stuff I mentioned in #6 happened while they were "fixing" something else. The more I had them at the house the more damage they caused. I finally just stopped pointing things out because I was worried what else they might screw up and I was just fed up of dealing with them. The owner did offer to fix some of the things I mentioned above but like I said I was done letting them "fix" things. The project was extremely stressful and drawn out. In hindsight I wish I had fired them after the first crew didn't even attempt to do anything Lead Safe. I didn't because the owner was very responsive to my complaints and I thought things world turn around and be okay. I actually think Daniel (the owner) and his brother are nice guys who genuinely want to do a good job but they just completely failed me again and again on this job. They never managed to get anyone to the jobsite that cared about getting the job done or getting the job done right. Daniel did have a new baby just days after the job began and I can understand how that can be difficult but the truth is that's not my problem. Don't schedule the job if you're not going to be able to manage it. Throughout the job and at the end I let Daniel know how horrendous this experience was and that I was not remotely happy. He wanted to make me happy and tried. He sent cleaners to the house twice free of charge because of my concerns with the lack of Lead Safe prep (dust and paint chips had been blown into my kids playroom). Recently he offered a free gutter cleaning (I declined and happily paid someone $250 to do it) because I am legitimately worried about letting them do anything at my house again. According to Daniel everyone who worked on my house was fired with the exception of his brother. I have no idea if this is true but either way it didn't make me feel any better and it didn't do anything to fix the issues with the job. The only thing that would have made me happy enough to walkaway from this project without feeling totally screwed would have been a sizable discount off the final price. I asked Daniel for 20% off but he would have none of it citing the fact that he already was losing money due the how long the project had dragged on (which was obviously not my fault) and he accused me of trying to take advantage of the situation. I can see where he was coming from but read through the above one more time, it was absolutely ridiculous and I would have felt total justified asking for 50% off. He asked what would have made me happy and that was it, but to be honest that still wouldn't have made me feel better about putting my kids health at risk and the stress of keeping them out of their playroom and the yard until I had cleaned both to feel satisfied that there was no lead dust hanging around (I had them both tested after the project to make sure they were okay, they were within normal levels). In the end he gave me a $700 credit. I included as many pics as I could but had dozens more that I started taking after they painted my roof. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Dear [Member Name Removed] Thanks for your review. I'm sure it would come at some point. As an smart Old say states: "Clients are always right" Not different in this case. Our client [Member Name Removed] is right and unfortunately this was in fact a very bad experience for all parties. Client, crew and company. As a Stay Home father, the client watched every single step of the way from Day 1. This is usually very beneficial as 99.9% of our clients really like to have us around and appreciate all the hard work and the extra mile our crews go to satisfy the client and deliver a super project at the end. Our goal is to build long relationships with most of our clients, and have a client available most of the time usually helps create that relationship and form loyal clients who will become eventually our main source of leads and business. However, this was not the case in this project: When we started to perform the preparation phase of the project the client did not like the setup done according to his readings and researches online. As all our clientele knows, we follow the lead safe practices well before EPA started to enforce the law and get more serious about it in 2009. We started our company performing ONLY HISTORIC RENOVATIONS and LEAD SAFETY PRACTICES has been always part of our prep phase. Windows, doors and ground being covered on the areas where the work had began. The client was in fact very worried about the lead exposure and was comparing our scraping phase (NOT STRIPPING) with other large de-leading projects on his online research and as a father, got overwhelmed with the content of these articles (which is completely understandable - i'm a parent as well so I can appreciate and understand that). The high level of pollen in New England weather in the Spring also made the client believe as all minor dust around the property was a result of scraping. (scraping not stripping) When we discussed about the protection and I felt the tension between the client and the crew, I should have replaced the crew immediately. I FAILED - Not sure what happened between the client and the crew, but the crew members and the crew leader who have done dozens of jobs for many years got completely lost performing their tasks and started to make mistakes after mistakes during the project. The crew leader of that particular team has over 25 years of experience. When I actually replace the crew after the ongoing problems, it was already too late. After long 30+ days - All mistakes were taken care of: - Professional contractor picked by the client was hired to re-do the roof damage sections at our expense. - All mistakes were properly corrected and the final product looks great (I drive by often as I have many clients on the neighborhood) -A lot of extra work was done with my authorization without charging the client. - % off of the project was applied on the final Invoice just to show the client we really care about the relationship and understand that even though the final product looks great, experience provided was not as expected. -Warranty is unlikely to be needed, as the surfaces were properly prepped and painted, but still VALID for 5 YEARS. We made mistakes, took responsibilities for the mistakes, paid very high price for the mistakes and I really don't know what else I can do make it up for the bad experience. Even though another opportunity is not likely to happen between us, we will always be available to help them whenever they need us Feel free to contact me directly on my cell Best Daniel Motti 617-778-8864

It went great, they did a great job! Just wish they would have come when they said they would rather than coming earlier as was hoping they could replace the outdoor flood light for me while they were up there cleaning the gutter and since they came on a different day when I wasn't home, wasn't able to get their help with this.

I was able to set up an appointment for an estimate right away when I initially called in December 2016. One of the Motti brothers came out to look at the house to make the estimate, but in the many weeks since I have not heard a thing, nor have any of my messages been returned. Like the reviewer before me, it is disappointing as they had such good reviews and seemed like a good company for this job. If I ever hear back from them I will update this review, but as of this moment, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Hi [Member Name Removed] How are you? Please accept our apologies. The proposal was already sent and we already exchange emails about ti. I just saw this review (today is Feb 10th 2017) I realized it took me a while to get back to you with a quote as I mentioned before, the Holiday season and vacation schedules got us behind with our office work and that's why it took longer than usual to get your estimate ready. Please forgive us for any inconvenience this delay might have caused you and your condo mates. Although my initial contact with Daniel was very quick, he has failed to provide me with an estimate. I've politely have emailed him several times since October to find out if he is interested in the project; and of two of those emails I received a reply as to how much he was interested in the project and assured me I would receive an estimate within a few days. Here it is January 18, 2017, and still I have not heard from him. As a matter of fact I emailed him yesterday and relayed to him that if he does not want to take on the job to please express so. A lack of response is very unprofessional and has lead me to write this review. It is such a disappointment and just disheartening because he seemed the right painter for this rather large project. It seems that contractors of all sorts feel it not necessary to communicate.

Saturday rolled around so I called and left Daniel a message asking if his crew would be there on Sat or Sun. He never called me back and he never showed. Sadly I had arranged for someone else to come that prior Thursday to clean the gutters but cancelled after I spoke to Daniel as his price was better. The weather has now turned to ice and my gutters still need to be cleaned. Is it so hard to pick up the phone or send a text?
Description of Work: I needed to have my gutters cleaned and called a couple of places. I spoke to Daniel from Motti and he had a better price than what I had been quoted and told me he could send a crew on Saturday or Sunday.

There was a $99 gutter cleaning special for up to 100 ft. so I went for it. Angie offered next 3 days for service. After a week went by with no communication from Motti, I decided to call. I left a message that was not returned. I called again the next day and spoke to a guy that said they were in the area and would be coming by. No show. I called again a week later and he said the same thing. 3 weeks have now passed and they have not showed up or called. Horrible service. Don't waste your time with these people.

I hired them in the late spring but because of mutual scheduling issues they did the work in November. Daniel Motti is very professional and friendly--easy to work with. Because of another issue I eliminated painting the ceiling but he promptly reduced the total by $400. The workers had some trouble at the beginning understanding what a cornice is but we worked it out through my lack of Spanish and I was very happy with the result. Hope to hire them again next year to paint the living room and maybe create another cornice.

Work started in mid-October to allow our roof replacement to finish before starting painting started, as Daniel recommended, to avoid damage to the paint job. MPSI had 4-6 workers on the job at all times (plus a port-a-potty!); their foreman, Erwin was always available to explain and coordinate with the workers. During the initial stripping and prepping the men wore hazmat suits and masks and the windows were taped to protect the men and us from lead paint dust. They were very rigorous and took their time, sometimes getting down to bare wood in large areas (something our previous painters had never done!) Their carpenters made necessary repairs as and when needed. In summary, MPSI and Daniel Motti and his crew, especially Erwin, are very professional, responsible and the quality of the work was outstanding; the punctuality and dedication of the workers was terrific. They were very respectful of our needs and the neighborhood, covering our and neighbors' cars, cleaning up and taking down their ladders at the end of each day. They even painted our house post sign in the front yard which was a pleasant surprise! We recommend them highly.
Description of Work: The project was to prep and paint our 3 storey Victorian and the adjacent garage, matching our existing colors. We hired Motti Paintng Solutions Inc. (MPSI) because of their references and because they have carpenters who could do needed repair work without having a delay in the painting. We met with Daniel Motti several times; he was very easy to deal with and co-operative; we negotiated our contract at the end of August, which included a 3-year warrantee.

We'd interviewed 4 contractors and chose Motti Painting Solutions. We'd been presented a very detailed description of the planned job, which gave us an impression of competence and trustworthiness, and got a very good personal impression of Mr. Motti. The work started on time. Windows were sealed with film, no dust inside. The house is ~35 ft toll to the roof line with many historical details. Meticulous prepping job (sanding, scraping, sealing, and calking) and excellent painting quality. Very high quality overall. The work was going without interruptions. Basic cleanup was done after each work day and very careful area cleaning after the work was finished All concerns after the final walk has been addressed in the next couple of days. The foreman came a few days after the project had been finished and money payed to check whether we have any problems. Clearly, the company wants to make long term relations and care a lot about its reputation. Very polite crew, easy communication with Mr. Motti by e-mail or phone. No regrets about our choice of contractor. We are not planning to sell the house, interested in long term quality. Will chose again should any need arise.
Description of Work: Painted the wood exterior of our 160 year old three story Victorian house, which is on the National Register of Historical Places, repaired the front porch (replaced the floor, bases of the columns supporting the roof over the porch, the trim around the porch), performed smaller repairs of the side entrance and back deck, replaced/repaired several wooden exterior elements. Stained the Washed vinyl siding. Painted cement walls of the underground garage entrance and the foundation.
