They installed walls of plastic to contain the dust. They hung red banners from our ceiling lights to help workers avoid walking into them. Supports for the ceiling on both sides were put in place, as the wall they were to remove was load bearing and the ceiling had to remain supported. 7.5 Feet of wall was removed, the maximum that the beam they recommended could support. The wall was removed, preserving the rice paper wallpaper in the dining room. The support beam was put in place; the supporting columns were hammered into the sides under the beam. Then the finish work was completed. The real surprise was that the dust was minimal - we expected a lot of mess! The arch in the wall accomplished all we hoped for. It all looks so well-done and natural that guests are surprised when we told them it was recently completed.

All missing and decomposed bricks were replaced. the cracked mortar was repaired. The top received a new coating of mortar, that had some flexibility in it, to deter cracking in the future. The old flashing was removed and the new flashing was installed properly. After 2 days of that work, the chimney was then washed with acid to remove excess mortar that had gotten on top of the brick. on the 4th day, JJ sprayed the entire chimney with a water-repellant, that keeps new water off, but lets inside water evaporate, so as to reduce the future deterioration of the bricks. The chimney whould stay in good shape for some time!

Good attention to detail and responsiveness during estimate and planning phases. Some miscommunication/ambiguities with the structural engineer caused problems, but the contractor was responsive and worked to resolve. The job took longer to complete than planned, though an unusual amount of rain is to blame for much of the delay.

J.J. did a fantastic job. He was extremely thorough, coming over to take photos and examine the work to be done and even consulting with the structural engineer before doing anything. Scott, his mason, was a pleasure to have in the house. He was very careful, punctual, and left the work area looking spotless. We have more work to be done in the future, and I will definitely hire J.J. again.
