Services we offer
Through Angie's List we are currently offering tree work including treatments for various insect and fungal infections, stump grinding, tree pruning and trimming, tree removal, and etc. For landscaping inquiries please call our office at (617) 661-8591 anytime Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm.
I called for a quote and arranged for the arborist, Mr. Harlow, to come look at the tree. He came at the appointed time and was very professional. After we talked, he even walked around the block to examine the situation from the other side. We received the written quote in a day or two. After about a week, Mr. Harlow called to follow up. I explained that this is a small condo, it would take us some time to get other quotes and make a decision. He did not pester us during this time. Once we had decided on CLC, I signed the proposal and returned it, with a specification of a non-standard height for the stump. The work was scheduled. CLC arranged with the city for parking space on the street to be reserved for their truck on the day of the work. A crew showed up on the scheduled day in the estimated time frame. They worked at a deliberate, professional, safe speed. They cut down the tree as specified. They removed all the debris (and asked whether we wanted to keep the logs for firewood).
Description of Work: They removed a dead 60+ foot ash tree from our back yard. The tree was inaccessible to a bucket-truck and had to be cut down by a person climbing the tree. One utility cable passed within a few inches of the tree and several others within a few feet. Also this tree extended up into the crown of a neighboring maple.

Cambridge Landscape is very efficient about getting the work done because they send several guys to work on the lawn at the same time. The quality is good but not great. After having spoken to other people, we think that their prices are somewhat high.
Description of Work: Cambridge Landscape has been doing our lawn work for the last three years. Primarily they cut the lawn every two weeks and do a spring and fall clean up.

They are usually punctual after it has snowed but there have been a few times when it has been a few hours before they have plowed the driveway. The quality of the snow plowing is fairly good although there have been times when we thought they could have removed more snow from the driveway, which would have prevented icy patches from occurring.
Description of Work: We have used Cambridge Landscape to plow our driveway for the past three winters. We have a contract with them to come whenever there has been three or more inches of snow.

Work was done in a timely fashion, as described, except that the "support" provided for the partly-cracked limb would not have protected it as originally installed (it was wired sideways to an adjacent branch, which wouldn't help when the next ice-storm would weigh it down). When asked, Cambridge Landscape returned and wired the branch (as per the original plan) to the branch above.

They quoted $1800 to remove 1 tree and trim 2 others. I received another quote for $1535 to do the same.
Description of Work: Asked them to come by and quote the cost to cut down the tree. I did not have to be there for the quote. They could not email me the quote and had to mail it to me, then fax it to me when I did not receive it (although I did get it in the mail many days later). The people were very nice overall - but the costs were too much.

I called several times to request an estimate for trimming back large trees which they trimmed several years ago. The first time I called, the person in the office took my number and told me someone would get back to me later that day. Several weeks later they left a message on my answering machine. A couple days after that, I called back asking for the person who had left the message. I was told he was out. Again, I got a call back more than a week later. I returned that call the same day and was told the person was "out of the office". At that point, I gave up.
Description of Work: Phone contact only - tried to get an estimate for work.

Response from Cambridge Landscape Co., Inc.
Our usual procedures for performing tree work start with making an appointment for our Company arborist to visit a customer’s location. Our office is open from 8 am to 5 pm and the office staff maintains the appointment schedule. Appointments are typically booked as soon as the call from the customer is placed. Calls to a specific staff person are directed to that person. In order to have an estimate for tree work anyone in the office is able and willing to help book the appointment. After the appointment our arborist will either leave a written estimate at the site or mail the estimate to the customer. We then request that the customer to sign and return the estimate if they want to go ahead with the work. We strive to make it easy for the customer. We regret that the member had experienced some difficulty.

I arrived home that evening to discover that, far from following the contract directions, the workers hadn't touched the tree crowns, they had removed all but one (11 in all) of the lower limbs thereby permanently destroying privacy and shade, they stripped 11" off two slats of a stockade fence, they did not remove tree debris from the neighbor's yard, and they had marked up the entryway fence. Paul agreed with my assessment of the damage to the trees and offered to supervise the pruning that had not been done, to repair the fences and to fertilize around the trees. I did not wish to have his crew back on my property. I called another tree service to finish the work and their consultant said that he wouldn't touch the trees at this point as they had been so severely and poorly pruned, further pruning threatened the integrity of the trees. He suggested root fertilization in the Fall and minimal pruning when the addition is built. Furthermore, this consultant stated that the cable should have been placed 6" - 7" higher than it was.
Description of Work: Paul Harlow came to my property to give an estimate on pruning two Norway Maples in my yard. He wrote up a specific contract on work to be performed, which included "working at the crown of the trees, removing dead limbs and thinning the branches, cutting back the house facing highest limbs to make room for a second floor addition, and placing a cable between two limbs. We set a date; two workers arrived; I asked if they were clear on the work to be done and they replied that they were.

Chris came out and to take a look at the work I needed done. He was also very helpful answering all the questions I had. He knew about all of the trees/bushes that were growing in my yard. Which ones could be saved and which ones should go. The estimate was the lowest I got (I consulted 2 other landscaping companies). They were able to work around my schedule to get the work done, and they did everything I asked of them, and a bit more. My neighbors have commented on how great the yard now looks.
Description of Work: Cut down two big tree branches that were hanging over my garage and driveway. Pruned a dogwood tree. Removed a number of bushes and an old brick patio from my back yard. Trimmed all of the bushes around the house and even cut my grass!

I was not pleased with their work quality of work. They were not professional. The cost was for the labor only. I had requested additional work. However, they did not follow-up on the additional work. I did not get what I wanted as I requested holly bushes. I did like the man as a person, but did not feel the work was done well.

Very good. I got quotes from 4-5 other tree removers in the area. CLC was about 1/3rd the cost of the closest bid! I actually had quotes for 3-4 thousand to do this work! It pays to get competing quotes. Since this is a multi-family, people try to take advantage. I am glad these guys were honest & straightforward. Nice & professional as well.
Description of Work: Had a 100' sugar maple (leaning precariously about 1 foot from the house) cut down & hauled off. Also cut down a dead sugar maple (40') & hauled off. Maintained about 4-5 other trees in the yard.

They were very responsive and delivered the wood soon after I called. The person who delivered it was friendly and helpful. They were also helpful on the phone in answering questions. The biggest issue was that they said the wood was cut into 16'' lengths, and some of it was over 2 feet long. I heat with wood and will have to cut down some of the pieces to fit them into my stove.

I started calling them in August about snow removal. They said they would put me on their list to call back. I called repeatedly over the next several months. I was repeatedly told that they would call back when they finished their garden work. The winter is long passed and they never bothered to call back. Given that they said they would call back, they should have at least called to tell me they couldn't remove snow for me on contract. Instead they just kept dragging along and never responding. I wouldn't consider calling them for any of their other services either.

IT TOOK A VERY LONG TIME TO GET THE WORK DONE (3 MONTHS). WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD COME OUT, THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP. MY HUSBAND TOOK TIME OFF WORK, AND TOLD THEM TO CALL WHEN THEY WERE IN THE AREA. THEY CALLLED HIM WHEN THEY WERE ALMOST DONE WITH THE WORK, AND LEFT BEFORE MY HUSBAND COULD GET THERE. THEY HAD NOT DONE THE JOB WE ASKED THEM TO DO, AND WE'RE HOPING THAT THE TREE WILL SURVIVE. THEY TOOK OUT THE HEALTHIEST BRANCHES, EVEN AFTER THEY TOLD US THOSE WERE THE ONES WE SHOULD KEEP. WE SPOKE TO THE OFFICE, WHO SAID YOU CAN EITHER PAY FOR IT OR NOT, THEY WERE NOT APOLOGETIC AT ALL. WE SENT A LETTER TO THE COMPANY SAYING THAT WE WERE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THE JOB.

SCHEDULER, JEANIE, IS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL IN HANDLING WHAT MUST BE A VERY DIFFICULT JOB IN SNOWSTORMS. THE HEAD OF SNOW REMOVAL, JIM, CAME BY BEFORE THE WINTER STARTED TO SCOPE OUT THE WORK THAT WOULD NEED TO BE DONE IN A STORM. THE BOBCAT DRIVER, CHRIS FLYNN, IS ALSO EASY TO TALK WITH AND UNDERSTANDS/ADAPTS HIS CLEARING IN A TRICKY, RELATIVELY NARROW DRIVE. HE EVEN HAD TIME TO HELP DIG OUT ONE CAR OWNER ACROSS THE STREET. COST IS A RATE SCALE DEPENDING ON EQUIPMENT USED, AS WELL AS TIME SPENT AND CREW SENT, SO CAN'T REALLY GO BY THE DOLLAR FIGURE ABOVE.
Description of Work: FIRST YEAR THEY ARE DOING OUR PLOWING; BOTH DRIVEWAY AND SIDEWALK CREWS ARE GOOD. THEY CLEAR MORE THAN ONE SHOVEL WIDTH AND USE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MG CL2 AS AN ICE MELTER. BOBCAT DRIVER IS CAREFUL NOT TO BURY BUSHES WITH SNOW..
