Description of Work: I texted a picture of the problem with the flushing unit and the technician arrived with the correct part. While there he also diagnosed and fixed a slow leak from the tank that I hadn't mentioned on the phone. The work was no more than an hour and cost what was quoted.

Description of Work: They drained the lines in my forced hot water heating. They arrived on time, were extremely courteous and friendly, and resolved the problem expeditiously.

Description of Work: Had a problem with my radiators just before I was scheduled to leave town for the holidays. Alewife took care of the problem on a tight turnaround!

Description of Work: They installed a new natural gas steam boiler. Unfortunately, the first installation had lots of problems. The first night the heat work, but by the next morning, I did not have heat. I called and they were out within an hour. Said it was a switch/control issues. A few hours later, I had heat again. Unfortunately, the controls still did not work so that at 1 a.m. I woke up to a steam bath of heat--85 degrees. I ran down and turned off the furnace. Called them in the morning and they were out again. Another switching problem? Not sure. Then the next evening, I went down to check on the new system, only to discover that there was water coming out of the pipes. I called and was told it was probably condensation. Unfortunately, it wasn't condensation, it was plain old water. So, on Dec 10, Mike from Alewife was out again redoing the piping and flushing the whole system. Few days later, the system stopped working about, the red "low water light" kept switching on. I called again and the next day, Mike was out again to flush the whole system. By now, the system seems to be working, but having to have the original work "redone" and multiple flushings didn't really instill a whole lot of confidence in me that I was getting a good system. The oil tank was removed no problem and quickly and efficiently. Today I had the chimney liners installed. I still have a clanging in my radiator which needs to be addressed and the final inspection. I really like the people who worked on the system and they have been extremely responsive. Of course, it would have been better if I hadn't had to discover how responsive they were. And, quite frankly, they should be responsive since the whole project costs upwards of $11K. I really am baffled at how to review them. I think the price was fair but I don't really feel comfortable providing more than a C rating on overall satisfaction and quality. They are responsive and professional and timely but still I am left with a nagging doubt about the quality of the work. I don't think something should need to be rebuild. On the other hand, perhaps, I got the better deal since the work was redone by someone who normally just oversees the work. Kind of like having an attending redo the work a resident might have done. | |I think the price was probably an A but since I had to have so much back and forth, and I still have doubts about the overall setup, I listed it as a B.

Description of Work: Fixed indoor/outdoor plumbing

Description of Work: Our hot water heater broke as we were leaving town. I called Alewife on Thursday morning and they were able to have someone come out on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, once they verified that the water heater had to be replaced, that could not be scheduled until Monday. On Monday, they replaced the water heater as planned, attended to some minor complications, and left everything working. I was able to pay them by credit card over the phone which was helpful. They were easy to deal with and seemed to do a good job. Certainly at this point, everything is working and all seems well. | |I paid for a ten year warranty on the heater. Only time will tell if that was a good investment. | |$2500 for a 75 gallon water heater installed, is certainly not inexpensive, but it seems like a relatively standard price for this sort of service.

Description of Work: I used Alewife Plumbing for our washing machine PVC pipe repair.

Description of Work: They unblocked an old pipe that was filled with sediment by snaking and replacing some of it. They also put in a new faucet for us in our kitchen because the old one was bad. They got the work done quickly while I was out.

Description of Work: They remodeled 2 bathrooms for us. They installed all new pipes and fixtures.
