The biggest drawback of this company is their non-response to calls and emails. Things started out well: Mike came out to give an estimate and was punctual and professional. He gave me a verbal quote for the work and said he'd email it, but I never got an email from him. Soon after he came by we scheduled a plumber to come and do the work. The plumber did a nice job, but after he completed the work we wanted he stuck around for almost 2 more hours trying to figure out why our other radiators were not coming on. After over an hour of the plumber calling his boss for ideas to try out, and replacing vents on the radiators, even though those vents were brand new as of a year ago and working fine the last time we had the heat on, my husband convinced him to leave and come back with someone else who may have more ideas. Well, a few days later we turned the heat on and all of the radiators in our house came on (some came on after some delay, which is normal for our house). When I explained this to Victor he credited us one hour of labor. We appreciated that, but we felt we were still being asked to pay for time in which nothing was getting accomplished and for vents that did not need replacing. Although, when I did get a hold of him, Victor was kind and courteous, It was like pulling teeth to get a response and settle the bill. I had to call multiple times, over the course of two weeks. We ended up coming to an agreement on the price of labor on our bill, but we still ended up paying for new vents that replaced new vents... and the plumber didn't leave us both the new vents that he replaced. I am disappointed, as things started out so well and I thought we finally had found a local plumber we can use again. No such luck.

Unexpected complications occurred but the job got done. Happy with the final result.

A few unexpected complications but not the fault of the plumber and the plumber and the company handled it very professionally.

I had Mike come out to estimate several projects we needed done in the house. He was prompt and professional, and I was looking forward to using Alewife as our regular plumber. He said he would follow up with estimates over email, but never did. I followed up twice by phone and was told he would email me the estimates, but never did. Disappointed as I chose Alewife because of excellent reviews on Angie's List.

Mike came to do the estimate but never followed up with a quote. I called twice and left messages with another person for Mike twice but he never called back.

Mike from Alewife was not only responsive to a same day call, but he did excellent work. He was friendly and personable, knowledgable, patient in making sure I knew what was going on, thorough in his work, and efficient. Beyond the work that had to get done, he took a look at my whole system and let me know what other fixes could/should be done, and how urgent they were—not using scare tactics, but just factually letting me know what he thought might happen, and that it was my decision how and when to act. I will not hesitate to call Alewife if I ever need anything again.

I have dealt with Victor for several years over at Alewife Plumbing and have always had a great experience, from a major appliance installation to minor plumbing issues, the Alewife team has always executed the work professionally and at the right price

They send guys another shift. We use them all the time.

Once again, Alewife Plumbing shows up as promised, is efficient, knowledgeable, and insightful. We had called to have the gas line to our dryer disconnected and they completed that job thoroughly, and also disconnected the line to our washer- since the man on the job, Jim, noticed that it was in bad shape. Lo and behold- they saved us time and trouble. The valve to the washer needed replacing, and it was a good thing he caught it- otherwise, the washer/dryer delivery folks would not have taken our machine away. Two thumbs up.

Very well every time. They have great staff who really want to help a new homeowner. They were always responsive and available quickly, turned up on time, did great work and charged reasonable rates (though fair warning that no decent plumber is ever cheap!)

They were timely and dealt with a few curve balls like a dishwasher that needed to be sawed out and a tight fit for a slide in range. My wife and I called the office and there were some mixed signals about when we needed the plumber to return to connect things. Also, they don't seem to respond quickly to emails or off hour calls. Once I called during business hours they were very quick to schedule. Overall, the office staff and the onsite plumbers that worked with us were great and motivated to help us get or project done.

Donald was the plumber who helped us. He had been helped us on a previous occasion and that was relevant to us hiring Alewife again in this case. Two of us condo trustees were present to meet him at the job and we were both very satisfied with the work. We liked Donald's friendliness and willingness to explain what the technical problems were and how he proposed to fix them (at the beginning of the job) and then afterwards, what he had done.

I went well. I called, they told me they would be there in the afternoon which was fine. They called before showing up, which was by noon. It took a little while to diagnois the problem. He had the pump need but had to get another part to fix the problem which didn't take too long. The problem was fixed shortly after getting the part.. I took a couple of hours. I don't know if they are the cheapest, but they are very professional and don't give you the run around about when they will show up, a problem I have had with other plumbers.

We were able to schedule service a week in advance. The whole job cost us more than expected, but absolutely reasonable considering how difficult it was to replace our kitchen faucet. We're so happy that Alewife Plumbing didn't walk away from the job and now we have a kitchen faucet that works! We would definitely use them again.

They arrived on time and discovered that the disposal was nearly falling off. The plumber tightened it and explained that it was close to falling off which would have flooded my apartment. quick fix and JUST IN TIME. Thank you Alewife plumbing yet again!!!!!

Most went well. Of all the times they came only once did I have a problem. I was replacing my washer/dryer stackable. The one I bought was defective so I had to have it removed and reinstalled a couple of times. Since the dryer is gas, a plumber had to disconnect the old dryer from the gas line and then come back to reconnect the gas for the new dryer. One time a young plumber came and did some damage. The company reimbursed me for it and correct the problem. In terms of cost they are on the middle of the spectrum. I would hire them again. The older plumbers are efficient, personable, and knowledgable.

I called and spoke to someone named Mike and explained what I would need done - He asked me to take a picture of the tub faucet and email him and he would then get back to me. I waited a couple of days and then emailed the company saying that I had not yet heard anything. It is now almost 3 weeks later and I still have not heard from anyone. If they happened to call now I would not use them anyway. Even if someone had called back and said they were very busy, etc. I would understand but I have never received a call back.

For the second time I am so pleased to write a glowing review of this company. First, I spoke with Victor on the phone (several times) to try to figure out which company had the best products. Vic was so very helpful!!! He knew what products were made well and which were junk. (I had researched what he said and he was absolutely spot on!!) He was ever so professional and took the time out of his busy day to help me which I am so grateful for!!!!!!!!! Due the "snowmageddon" we experienced, we agreed to wait a bit for the installation as parking in Boston is terrible to begin with then add massive snow piles, not to mention that Alewife Plumbing had a lot of work with other folks due to the extreme cold. Rob showed up exactly on time. He had to find parking but was courteous enough to tell me that. When he got here I asked him to look at the drain in the tub which was badly clogged. He removed the massive clog, tested the drain to make sure that it was indeed clear, then proceeded right away to taking off the hardware. He then shut off the water in the building in the downstairs apt and replaced the old hardware with the LOVELY new hardware that Vic helped me pick out. Rob was extremely professional and hard working!!! This is why I ONLY use Alewife Plumbing-from initial contact through installation and clean-up this company is the best Thank you Victor, Rob, Lisa and all the folks at Alewife Plumbing for another NON nerve wracking installation!!!!!

It went very well and they did an excellent job. The condo is old and the pipe comes up thru the bathroom floor so Rob had to drill out a hole in the bottom of the vanity. Victor came out and looked at the bathroom before we bought the vanity so we could make sure we got one that would work for the space. They didn't charge for that visit. Since Alewife is already familiar with the building, they took care of contacting maintenance to put up a sign about the water being turned off. Rob also repaired the wall behind the toilet which entailed removing the tank. Victor and Rob were both very nice and Rob cleaned up very thoroughly after he finished working. This is the third time we have used Alewife and we would definitely use them again.

Rob arrived when he said he would, and even gave us a heads up as he entered the city limits. He was fast and effective and very nice guy. Everything seemed to go as planned and was done in good humor.

We replaced out kitchen countertops and along with that, the sink and faucet. While we were able to install the new faucet ourselves, the drain was a little more complicated. Also, in the process of prepping for the granite installation, we had messed with the gas line to the stove enough that I wanted it checked. Replacing the faucet also brought to our attention the broken valve on the water supply under the sink. I called Alewife along with two other plumbers. They were very responsive. One of the others came in to give an estimate on *just* hooking up the drain, and quoted over $300. I didn't get a good vibe from him to decided to wait for Alewife. The guy from Alewife (I'm sorry I didn't write down his name in my notes) hooked up the drain, fixed the valve, and checked on the gas line. Then I remember that our toilet was and quot;runningand quot; a lot and we hadn't been able to fix it, so I had him take a look at that, and he took care of it in a jiffy. Total cost came to $161, including parts. He was a pleasure to work with and I will definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

I own Picante Mexican Grill in Cambridge. When we opened on Friday we had no hot water. I went on Angie's List and called Alewife Co. Susan answered the phone I told what my problem was she said she would see what she could do. To my delight she called back in a very short period of time and said somebody was on there way. It just so happened we developed a gas leak just after lunch. When Jim walked he said he smelled gas. He took care of the gas leak in very short order and did same with the water heater. I would like to thank Susan ,Jim and the Alewife Co. The rates were very reasonable. I now have a new plumbing company that I would highly recommend. To Susan,Jim and Alewife Co. I wish I could give higher than and quot;Aand quot; ratings for our experience with Alewife. We had been out of hot water for DAYS, trying to find a plumber who could help us with our fancy Power-Vent water heater/tank, calling friends of friends, etc. etc. -- no luck, and feeling frustrated, I turned to Angie's List. From the moment we called Alewife, we had a good feeling. Don returned my call (on a Sunday!) in 20 minutes and apologized for the delay. I said, and quot;WHAT delay?and quot; and he said, and quot;well, it's been 20 minutes... I wanted to get back to you sooner.and quot; I actually laughed with delight upon hearing that. (As of my typing this, only one other plumber responded to us at all, and we called six.) Which brings me to my next point: maybe I didn't get return calls because of the holiday, but Alewife doesn't take President's Day off, so they were able to come out THE NEXT DAY and help us at regular rates. Don said he'd have Mike call me the next morning around 8 am to let us know the time someone could come by, and we had a call at 8:12 from Mike. Mike said his guy Dan would be coming by around noon or 12:30, and then called us AGAIN to let us know Dan was on his way but was a few minutes late. Dan showed up right at 12:45. Unbelievable customer service! Unbelievable punctuality and professionalism. Why can't cable companies do that? Dan-the-Man (my term for him) spent exactly three hours here (as correctly estimated by Don the night before on the phone!), installing our supposedly complicated PowerVent water heater... Which, it turned out, wasn't that complicated a job for him, even though he had to redirect some pipes to make room for the taller heater we bought. (This is despite several other plumbers saying they wouldn't even and quot;go nearand quot; a PowerVent unit, due to lack of experience with them. Whatever.) The $441 price above INCLUDES labor and all parts used to redirect the pipes to the new heater, AND the $35 haul-away fee for the old tank! Dan left the place clean and was totally professional from start to finish. My husband and I feel we got a great deal.
