One Great Painter

I just happened to notice as I was looking over the work that he had done that there were a couple of spot that he should have seen them and given them a quick touch up. I'm not going to criticize, it's just something that, if I was the painter, I would have noticed that would have given it a quick once over. I would use them again, only I'd be more cautious.

We couldn't be happier with the results. Not only was his work exceptional, but he always gave us options and made recommendations based on his experience. John works alone and is in constant communication as to timetable and what comes next. This was a great advantage for us, as sometimes one of us was home, and other times just John was here. We were comfortable with either situation. Previous to the painting, we had a major kitchen remodel where it was necessary to have several people in and out all day for several weeks. Having the same person each day was just what we needed. I would highly recommend John. We feel like we are in a new house.

Everything John says in his posting is dead on. He is very thorough, a nit picker about the smallest of lines. He very pleasant, extremely hard working and tremendously neat! We couldn't be happier with our beautiful townhouse. John was even helpful in teaching me some painting techniques. What he didn't say is that he is very trustworthy. I immediately felt comfortable leaving him alone in the house while I made business calls.

John was awesome. I knew he was the right guy after spending over an hour with me discussing the project. You can tell within in a minute he knows his stuff. John painted over all of our stained wood trim along with the walls and ceiling. My wife could not be happier with how it looks. I love walking into the room. All throughout he kept me in the loop. Always on time and very respectful. I had zero issues with him in my house. The room was always left clean and neat. Just a great guy with little to worry about. Do not hesitate to give him a call.

Mr. DeYoung is the consummate painting professional. He proceeds very carefully on a step-by-step basis: assessing the job and estimating its cost; instructing you on the different qualities and finishes of each kind of paint; making sure you are happy with the color you've chosen; explaining how much he intends to accomplish each work day; re-assessing when necessary; and always considerately cleaning up after himself. Not only does he do a beautiful job of painting, but he's also pleasant, cheerful, and absolutely non-stressful. I'm very glad to have hired him once, and I'll hire him again.

Working with John DeYoung was such a pleasure! He is knowledgable, honest, efficient and trustworthy. He listened to what we wanted and walked us through the process. John only works with one customer at a time and gives you his full attention. His work is meticulous with sharp attention to detail. He was as passionate about our new home as we were and gave us so much extra. He had our sliding screen door rescreened, recaulked a window...too many things to mention! Upon our first meeting, my twelve year old daughter commented, "Mom, you finally met someone who loves to talk about paint as much as you do!" We would definitely work with John again and highly reccomend him.

My wife and I purchased a new house and began by painting the upstairs rooms. We quickly realized a) we weren't very good at it and b) we were slow. We received estimates from quite a few painters and John gave us a very fair price. More importantly though, he asked a lot of questions to help us choose how we would want the painting done and where the paint would go. He has an excellent attention to detail not only with the work itself but with how to layout where colors change in a complicated room. I highly recommend him.

John always showed up in time and has dinner a fantastic job with our house. We did some of the painting ourselves before we called him and he even touched up our not-so-straight cut-ins. He is also excellent at discussing options with how to flow the colors through rooms. We have had contractors just assume we wanted work done in one way without consultation but John will give you all the options and his opinion. I've really appreciated working with him.

John is definitely the best painter we’ve ever worked with! John painted our second floor floor trims, window trims and doors, and the work is impeccable. John came to give us a quote and gave very detailed description of work and how he would approach and tackle different problems that might come across. Also, he explained to us what he could do to save us money and time. He worked for 5 days and left spotless. We are very pleased with the work! Since our wall paint is darker color, painting the trims in white needs lots of skills and patience to make the trims edges nice and straight, and John did a really good job. We should also say John kept his painting tools super organized and tidy, and our place never looked like a working zone as it was very clean every day when we came back. We’ve had bad experiences working with other painters before, so we are very cautious when we are hiring a painter this time. And John’s work is far beyond our expectation. John was always punctual, he’s trustworthy and very attentive to his work, and he gave top tier professional painting service! We will definitely recommend John to everyone!

This was without doubt the best experience we've had working with a contractor, ever. In giving us our initial estimate, John was straightforward, informative, and very responsive to our requests. He stuck to the initial estimate, actually coming in a few dollars under the amount. At each step in the process he was communicative and easy to work with, providing us with detailed information that we didn't even expect to need—for example, showing us how to clean and maintain the paint work after the job was complete, and even supplying us with a bottle of prepared cleaner. John was punctual and energetic, always putting in the needed hours to complete his goal for the day, even though he doesn't charge by the hour. He actually left the rooms cleaner than when he arrived, as he helped scrape up dabs of paint on the floors left by previous, far less professional painters. At the end of the day, he left his equipment neat and unobtrusive, so our home didn't feel so much like a work site. He also followed up by texting a report of the day's progress, so when we returned after the workday, we knew what to anticipate. As for the quality of the work, it was impeccable. Our walls look brand new, with the trim bright and spotless. It's like living in a new home. We would recommend John for any job. He is honest, pleasant to have around, very fair-priced, and immensely attentive to his work. He is a consummate professional.

John came out and gave a very accurate estimate. He always arrived on time and did the work he said he would each day. He was punctual, reliable and always kept us informed. He did a great job. The rooms look beautiful. He pays attention to the small but important details. He goes the extra mile to do the job well. He is also trustworthy and a very pleasant person to have in the house! John is an exceptionally talented painter. He's extremely meticulous and detail oriented. Our 7 rooms contain 26 separate window and door openings, all with crown molding detail. There's not a drop of of wall paint on the woodwork. I've never met a painter who doesn't use masking tape or drop cloths until I met John. Without reservation, I recommend John the Painter to any homeowner who values top quality painting at a reasonable price. You will not be disappointed. We are very happy with the results of his work.

John's expertise was clearly top notch. He focuses on just one project at a time, does all the work himself, and often paints houses in their entirety for his clients. He was very responsive, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The work that I needed done didn't really seem to need perfection, though, my home and neighborhood are pretty humble, so I did decide to go with a less expensive offer, but it must be said that the price John charged was completely fair to the work that he would have done. I definitely recommend giving him a call, especially if you're looking for peak skill and attention to detail!

John was one of the only providers to offer to use the paint we had bought thinking we could do the job ourselves! Great job even though our house is 50 years old and the walls aren't straight. John does the job himself, so if you are looking for something to be done quickly you will want to look for a team/crew. But I felt confident leaving John in the house on his own. He took his time and got the job done correctly the first time. Definitely recommend to others and will use again for future paint work.

John was great from start to finish and me and my wife were thrilled that we were lucky enough to find him. He is very good at what he does and does not hire any sub-contractors or other workers and is strictly a one man operation but his attention to detail is unmatched. he first came and looked at the riooms and gave us an estimate and we set a date to start. John gave us some websites to look at and also advised to what types of apint would work best for each room. We set a date to start and he got right into the job. job took five days and me and my wife are very happy with the way the rooms look. John is extremely passionate with his work and did a phenomenal job and we were so happy with his work.

John was a true professional. He was passionate about painting and paint. He was experienced, trustworthy, organized, intelligent and very considerate. John moved through our house in a planned fashion which he discussed with me as he proceeded. He worked in one room or area at a time in order to free up living space. He was organized with this tools and neat. I appreciated that he planned paint dry rates in order to replace window and door locks at the end of the day. All these practices allowed my family to live and work stress free. I have not experienced this level of organization or consideration before with painters. John also discussed paint choices with me. I now understand sheen and I love the choices I made with the knowledge he shared. Also, John gave me the time to rethink difficult rooms because he picked up the paint as he moved through each room or area. In addition, he minimized waste, a green approach, by planning well and buying the minimum paint necessary. Price. John?s estimate was half the price of one A rated professional and right on par with another A rated painter. I didn?t choose the other comparably priced paint crew, because I sensed John was passionate about his work. I admit I had reservations at first having one painter do such a large job. But as he states, yours is his only job at that time. From this experience, I now feel one painter dedicated to one job at a time is a great idea. Closely examining the walls, doors and windows John painted, proves the work he did was exceptional. I would hire John again without hesitation. Added bonuses. John alerted us to a problem with the gutters our construction team had recently installed. While John was finishing up, the construction workers? ladder scraped the newly painted wall, leaving black marks. On John?s last day, he taught me how to fix future scuffs and blemishes that would occur. While teaching (and discussing paint choices early on) he was patient and passed no judgment on my ignorance about how to do such things.

Service was excellent and on the 18 day time frame as previously quoted at. John stayed every day from start to finish no matter the time frame to get the work done each day. He helped us with all the holes and patchwork within the house before painting, which came out awesome. In all we had 9 rooms re-painted (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room) as well as all the walls. He also helped us fix all our heaters and re-do them. We appreciate all the work John did for us and highly recommend him to everyone. The reviews on here helped us find him! If we have any work to be done in the future he will definitely be getting our service again.

I am so pleased that I found I'm The Painter, a/k/a John Deyoung, on Angie's List. To start with, John came by my house on a Sunday to speak with me to see what I wanted done. Then he set a timeline for the work to begin and how long it would take. He was there every day (on time) until the work was completed and it was within the timeline he set. I also asked John to do some extra work for me which he was happy to do. The finished product is beautiful. I would highly recommend John and I plan on having him do some more work for me in the future.

John was prompt, friendly, courteous, trustworthy, and his completed work was impeccable. I called John after reading over 60 of his reviews. He met with me promptly, reviewed the work being requested, and provided an estimate before he left. The estimated timeline was 6-6.5 days. Work was completed in 6 days. I was not home during the day while John was working and I was very comfortable with that.I would strongly recommend John because of his quality of work and his trustworthiness. This was the 2nd time (Phase II) that I chose John to come back and complete the final phase of painting in my home that needed to be done, which were my 2 bedrooms and bathrooms. I chose him for (Phase I) in September of 2014 when I first moved into my new home to paint the kitchen, living room, sun room and hallway. I knew right from reading all his excellent reviews, that he was the one I was choosing. I couldn't have made a better choice! I can't say enough about his commitment and pride he takes in his work. He is meticulous in his painting and the outcome is impeccable! He is and will always be the #1 painter in my book! John takes the time to listen to what the customer wants and will give his honest opinion and make excellent suggestions. He is by far one of a kind: a true professional in what he sets out to accomplish, a very hard worker, and a true gentleman. It has been such a pleasure doing business with him. John visited our house to provide an estimate, and was immediately able to give advice and information about how the job would go based on the layout and condition of our walls, trim, etc. All of our walls and ceilings are textured, and the approach to each room is unique based on the specific textures and the colors we would choose. We had John's advice in mind as we chose colors, and shared some ideas with him right away. He let us know the timeline we could follow on when he would need to know the final color choices, based on how he would approach each portion of the job. So we could pick the trim color first (easier) and the wall colors last (more difficult). He even made suggestions for where on the wall to try out the new colors. When starting the job, John went through each space and talked about what would need to be moved or removed (furniture, door and cabinet hardware, hardware to hang paintings and photos on the wall. While the job was in progress, we were working from home, and so John was very accommodating in navigating around our desk space and letting us know when he'd be working in that room. And when we were wrapping up each space, we discussed what door/cabinet hardware would be replaced, what would go back on the doors, and so on, in detail. The work itself was done very well and with care. The rooms that John painted look terrific now?they had not been painted in a while, they were all white (walls, ceilings, trim). With the new paint and John's detailed application, it's an improvement that we are still talking about on a daily basis when we use the rooms. It just looks great. Working with John means you're working with one person who will apply the same care and workmanship to all aspects of the job. He'll let you know what he plans to do next so you're aware of the progress and any to-dos of rearranging furniture, hardware, etc. And you'll know about every expense that is incurred in the total cost of the job - down to the gallon or quart of paint needed to finish.

John was very professional and provided me with a lot of advice about my painting project. He was honest and informed me that, given the size of my project and my tight timeline, he would not be able to work with me. He did, however, go above and beyond and spend a lot of time with me discussing paint color, finish and brand selections that would best suit my space. I would hire John for smaller projects down the road when I am not pressed for time.

John was the consummate professional! He was neat, he listened to what we wanted and provided excellent insight, advise and feedback. He did everything freehand (the cuts) and never went over the line. The colors we used are bold in nature and when completed were striking. He quickly made nice with our 4 dogs and literally focused on the job at hand and did not take any other jobs while working on our house (a feature we really liked). He started on time and finished when he said he would. We are very pleased with the look and appearance. and we would definitely use his services again. We just bought a well maintained but older home with boring white walls and boring wooden trim with no architectural charm so we decided to paint all the trim white and put colors on the walls. This included living room, dining room, bathroom, hallway, kitchen and 3 bedrooms, with many doors, baseboards and windows that had a variety of coated, painted, or untreated surfaces. John estimated the job would take around 15 work days and $5k and he came in right on target. We decided to go with John over other painters we contacted in part because his estimate was so reasonable but moreso because he clearly has a passion for his craft and knows what he is doing. There are two sides to a business: the workmanship and the customer service, and John has mastered both. He is easy going and detail oriented and has been the best contractor (of many) that we've had in the house. This may sound strange but I've enjoyed working with him so much that I wish had more walls for him to paint! We look forward to calling him when we are ready for our next painting project.
