+ -1 moreRichard Santin answered his phone the 1st time I called. I live close-by so I dropped the screens off at his shop. They were ready to be picked up within an hour! Mr. Santin even fixed the bent frames without extra charge. His estimate and actual price were the same. I will definitely use Mr.Santin's services in the future, he was quite a gentleman to work with.
Description of Work: Re-wired 4 regular screens and repaired the frames that were bent.

+ -1 morePleasant on phone, price fair, but did require 2 calls to get a price and several call to secure a date for installation. Process took approximately 4-5 weeks. Job looked fine and quality fine, but the lack of return calls was frustrating to a working person.

+ -1 moreMy experience was excellent. Dick was very responsive and knowledgable, and clearly prides himself on delivering excellent service and great value. If you have a window issue, he is the man.
Description of Work: I called Dick to find or make two replacement storm-window inserts in my rental unit. Dick called me right back and came by the next day, even though he was obviously quite busy. He was able to identify the manufacturer of the windows, even though they haven't been made for over 20 years, and was going to make replacement inserts by trimming some used windows that he keeps in stock. Meanwhile, he encouraged me to search around in my attic and basement for the missing inserts--which I ended up finding! They had been MIA since I bought the house many years ago, and no previous tenant had ever noticed or mentioned that they were missing.

+ -1 moreI asked Richard to come over and give me a quote on some windows and installation of screen doors. He started looking at parts then ended up installing one of the screens without my consent or even telling me how much it would cost. I was awkward. At the end he hits me for a $125 charge and I'm in the awkward position of deciding whether or not to pay him. But I did, since he did do the work but it was way too much and I felt inappropriate. He said he'd call with an estimate on the other work. I never heard from him and he hasn't returned my calls. Lesson learned.

+ -1 moreOur screen door has fallen off the hinges, and was ripped off the frame during a wintry day this past year. Upon further inspection, we noticed that it was improperly installed, (or at least installed on the quick). Mr. Santin was friendly, fast, and thoughtful. I called at noon on a Thursday, and he arrived later that day to do the repairs. I was just expecting him to come by and give an estimate, but he did the work right then. He was resourceful and solved the problem, and now the door works better than we it bought the house! I recommend Richard Santin to anyone who needs a door installed or fixed. PS: He even offered a suggestion to solve our deck problem. And the advice was free!

He conducted the measurements one day: ordered the windows the next; then one day I came home and the windows were fixed. He cleaned up very well and left the work area immaculate, as I couldn't tell he had been there. Reasonably priced, too.
Description of Work: Replaced basement window and repaired a double-paned storm window in my tenants apartment.

+ -1 moreDick was polite, professional, and did more than the work he had to do. Though the windows were in poor condition and difficult to remove, he stuck by the rate he had quoted me. In addition, he helped the piano movers manipulate the piano when the crane brought it through the window!
Description of Work: Removed picture window and storm window so piano could come through, cleaned them, then replaced same.

Told me upon inspection that it was beyond him (he is a 1 man crew) and reference for someone who could do the job. Very nice and professional. Knew his limits and told me so. Truthful.
Description of Work: Ask to provide an estimate on replacing a wall of windows (15' X 4') including some roof type windows that lean onto them. Greenhouse type effect.

HE DELIVERS 150% ON QUALITY, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRICE. HE IS FLEXIBLE AND WILL GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO MEET YOUR SCHEDULE. ADDITIONALLY, HE MAKES A POINT TO FOLLOW UP AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE, WHICH MOST SERVICE PROVIDERS WON T. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH 3-SEPARATE ROOFING, SIDING and MASONRY CONTRACTORS WHO HAVE BEEN UNRELIABLE IN SHOWING UP, CALLING, DOING THE WORK AS PROMISED, ETC. + 0 moreWHEN DICK CAME TO LOOK AT THE WORK I NEEDED DONE, HE CHECKED THE FRONT STORM DOOR FIRST. BASICALLY USING HIS FOOT AND HAND, HE CAREFULLY BENT IT BACK INTO ALIGNMENT AND IT NOW CLOSES PERFECTLY. AFTER LOOKING AT THE ONE ATTIC WINDOW I NEEDED REPLACED, HE DISCUSSED OPTIONS WITH ME IN TERMS OF EASIEST AND LEAST EXPENSIVE. GIVEN THAT I WANTED TO MAINTAIN THE CHARACTER OF THE HOUSE, WE AGREED ON THE VINYL WINDOW. WHEN HE CAME BACK WITH A PRICE, I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY REASONABLE, THEREFORE I OPTED TO HAVE THE 2ND WINDOW DONE AT THE SAME TIME. TO MY SURPRISE HE WAS ALSO ABLE TO GET GRIDS INSERTED INTO EACH WINDOW TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE 6-PANEL WINDOWS THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE HOUSE. THIS WAS A MODEST UPCHARGE ($15 EACH), AND WELL WORTH IT. AWESOME JOB INSTALLING. EVEN HAULED THE OLD WINDOWS AWAY. MY ONLY CONCERN WAS THE LENGTH OF TIME BETWEEN INITIAL CALL AND VISIT FOR QUOTE, AND QUOTE AND INSTALLATION. OTHERWISE I'M VERY HAPPY.

+ -1 moreRICHARD SANTIN RETURNED OUR CALL AFTER WE LEFT A MESSAGE REGARDING A LEAKY WINDOW. THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS, ''I TOLD ANGIE'S LIST TO STOP GIVING ME CALLS BECAUSE I'M TOO BUSY.'' HE ASKED ME TO GIVE HIM MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, WHICH I DID, THEN HE TOLD ME THAT IT'S PROBABLY NOT THE WINDOW BUT THE ROOF OR THE GUTTERS. I SAID THAT WE HAD ROOFERS HERE TO FIX THE ROOF AND THERE WAS STILL A LEAK. WE ALSO CHECKED THE GUTTERS AND THEY ARE CLEAN BUT HE STILL INSISTED THAT IT WASN'T THE WINDOW. I ASKED IF HE COULD TAKE A LOOK AND HE SAID YES BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHEN HE COULD COME. HE SAID WHENEVER HE'S IN OUR TOWN, HE'LL COME BY BUT WOULDN'T GIVE US ANY IDEA OF WHEN THAT WOULD BE. IN ADDITION, HIS ATTITUDE WAS RUDE.

+ -1 moreHE FIXED THE WINDOW WITH THE BROKEN SEAL, FIXED A WINDOW ON A SCREEN DOOR IN WHICH A METAL PRONG HAD SNAPPED OFF, AND DID THE SAME WITH A REPLACEMENT WINDOW THAT WOULD NOT STAY OPEN. THE MOST OUTSTANDING WORK WAS HIS ''COLUMBO-LIKE'' ABILITY TO TRACK DOWN ESSENTIAL PARTS FOR 30-YEAR OLD ANDERSON WINDOWS THAT WERE NO LONGER MADE AND THE PARTS WERE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND IN THE USUAL SUPPLY HOUSES. FINALLY, I BELIEVE HE WENT THROUGH CONTAINERS OF OLD PARTS STORED AT HIS HOME TO COME UP WITH THE 6 MISSING PARTS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE COSTLY TO REPLACE!!!! OVERALL I WOULD SAY THAT DICK SANTIN'S NAME SHOULD BE CHANGED TO DICK: THE SAINT OF WINDOWS. HE IS JUST THE MOST FACILE PERSON I HAVE EVER MET WHEN IT COMES TO WINDOW REPAIR. I WAS STUNNED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHEN OTHER REPAIR PEOPLE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE A WINDOW AND DICK CAME ALONG WITH A PRACTICAL REMEDY THAT SAVED THE DAY AND MY BUDGET. HIS ONLY FLAW IS THAT HE DOES NOT CHARGE ENOUGH FOR HIS WORK.
Description of Work: DICK INITIALLY CAME TO MY HOUSE ON AN EMERGENCY BASIS 3 YEARS AGO WHEN A LARGE CASEMENT WINDOW BROKE IN A STORM. HE WAS CLEARLY FLAT OUT WITH WORK, BUT MADE HIS WAY OVER FIXED THE BROKEN WINDOW AND MADE NOTE OF OTHER REPAIRS LESS URGENT. HE RETURNED IN A TIMELY FASHION AND FIXED SOME WINDOWS THAT WERE STUCK, REPAIRED SOME SCREENS, ETC... HE NEEDED TO ORDER SOME PARTS FOR TWO OTHER WINDOWS THAT NEEDED REPAIR. ONE APPEARED TO HAVE A BROKEN SEAL, AND I WAS TOLD BY OTHER PEOPLE THE WINDOW NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DICK STATED THAT HE WOULD JUST GET A NEW PIECE OF GLASS AND FIX IT. TIME MARCHED ON AND OTHER ISSUES BECAME MORE PRESSING AND I FORGOT ABOUT THESE REPAIRS UNTIL THIS SPRING WHEN I PUT MY HOUSE ON THE MARKET,AND SUDDENLY HAD NUMEROUS ''WINDOW ISSUES.'' DICK RESPONDED IN A FRIENDLY FASHION, AS USUAL, AND REMEMBERED DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL ALL THE WORK THAT WAS DONE (AND NEVER BILLED FOR) AND THE PARTS THAT HE HAD FOR THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW ETC..HE CAME OVER IN A FLASH.

Description of Work: REPAIRED SEVERAL SCREENS, AND COMPLETELY MADE 5 NEW SCREENS. A TOTAL OF 10 SCREENS. HE GAVE SOME INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT SOME OF THE MISSING WINDOW ACCESSORIES, AND PURCHASED THEM FOR US AS WELL. I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT A WINDOW THAT I THOUGHT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE, AND HE GAVE IT AN EXAMINATION AND TOLD ME IT WAS FINE.
