Tempco couldn't do the work we needed.
Description of Work: We had a leak from a roof under a 3rd floor deck into the second floor room below, and we had hoped to replace the existing roof coating with a rubber roof. Although we were out of his usual service area, John came out very quickly and looked at our job, but because of the construction, he would not be able to install a rubber roof. He did give us very helpful advice about how we could do our own repair. He was a great person to deal with, and if we ever needed a rubber roof installed or repaired, we would go back to him immediately.

This roof has been a constant headache, and I've poured more money, time and anguish into it than I can possibly report here. This last roofer I suspected did a crummy job, and other roofers confirmed my worst fears. That is very bad news, considering that right now I don't have more cash to throw against this roof. John from Tempco came down for an estimate, and he brought his caulking gun. He made some caulking repairs for me at no charge to see if this would take care of the problem, or at least hold it for awhile. If not, we'd have to proceed to more costly repairs. He wouldn't accept any money at all, not even for gas. What a guy. Highly recommend John for his professionalism and kindness.
Description of Work: I was having problems with leaks around my upstairs skylight, which was installed in a rubber roof in a shed dormer. The company that did the rubber roof in 2006 is no longer in business, so I was out of luck for a warranty repair.

The rubber roof of my condo had leaked & been patched in the past and we had been told by a previous contractor that it would need to be replaced soon. I found Tempco through a search looking for rubber roof experts & was extremely satisfied with the work. John returned my first call quickly and arranged an estimate in the next day or two even though he does not typically do work in my suburban neighborhood (which is not all that close to his business). After inspecting the roof, he told me there was no need for a new roof and clearly explained the necessary repairs. He was able to schedule the repairs within days of my condo group deciding to go with Tempco for the repairs and showed up exactly when he said he would. In addition to the repair work planned, John also proactively cut tree branches that were in danger of damaging the roof & pointed out issues with the chimneys which we were previously unaware of. John took several photos on the roof to show us the work that he had done which was very helpful documentation. The job was finished quickly and professionally & we are very happy with the work!

I am extremely pleased with the professionalism, knowledge, and communication provided by Tempco Roofing. John called me at various steps in the process to keep me informed. He gave me complete confidence that he would stand by his work, and most importantly, for the first time in years the roof has not leaked after several very hard rain storms that we've recently had. Finally, since my two buildings are located close to one another, I asked him if he could climb up to the first one (the roof that Three Sons had replaced, but which was leaking) to see if he could spot any problems. Immediately he identified some problem areas, and I then notified Three Sons about this, after which they came out and finally repaired the leak. John did not charge me for his efforts in helping me figure out why my other (new) roof was leaking.
Description of Work: I own two buildings with flat rubber roofs that have had problems with leaking during the winter, and during heavy rain. In order to explain why I used Tempco roofing, a little background is needed. About 5 months ago I asked Three Sons Remodeling to evaluate the roof on one of these buildings; they told me the roof needed to be replaced, and after getting several estimates I gave them the job for $18,000. I used Three Sons on a verbal recommendation- at that time I was not a member of Angie's List. I was disappointed to discover that during the past 5 months this new roof leaked in places that it never leaked before. Three Sons was initially not responsive to this issue (see next section) and said that there was no problem with the new roof- this became very frustrating to say the least, and needless to say I was not inclined to have them assess the roof on my second building. I joined Angie's List, found that Tempco Roofing received excellent ratings, and called John to discuss the problem. John called back the same day, evaluated the roof within 24 hours, explained the problems areas, and did the work within 3 or 4 days of my initial call. The work involved reflashing several areas, placing new roofing material over existing patches, caulking various problem areas, etc.. He took pictures showing a few of the problem areas and explained the nature of the work completely. He and his crew spent the greater part of the day completing the work.

They were very responsive. There was a slight delay in getting to the house. We thought that we were going to have to replace the roof but they were able to just repair it. They even took my camera up and took pictures to show us what they had done. Our communication was great, they were trustworthy and I would hire them again.

After a roof-deck fire at our home, we called Tempco based on a recommendation. John showed up immediately to put a temporary patch on our roof to stop further damage from occurring while we sorted out insurance and arranged for a new roof. We also went with Tempco to do the actual repairs - John is extremely responsive to calls, not only answers all questions but also patiently explains all options, shows you exactly what he plans to do, and also takes you through it after it's done. He had excellent follow through, guarantees his work, and called back to check in. When you stand on our new rubber roof and compare it against our neighbors, the higher quality of our roof is very noticeable. John and his team are polite, respectful to the neighbors, and clean up after themselves. He shows up and/or calls when he says he will - extremely reliable. The insurance agency's adjuster actually commented on the high quality and reasonable cost of the temp patch when assessing damage.
Description of Work: Free-standing triple decker: Work was to put an emergency temporary roof patch ($600), which included cost of removing charred deck debris so they could get at burned portion, which accounted for about 1/4 of the whole roof. Then, about 6 weeks later, a complete new rubber roof ($12,500). Follow up work will be done after new siding installed (follow up work included in this price). Because we hired Tempco to also do the roof after the patch, he reduced the cost of the patch to $300, so total project cost was $12,800. Because our roof had only been 3 years old to begin with, we fought the insurance company and won for the whole roof to be replaced versus just doing the burned portion as the quality would not have been the same.

Tempco specializes in rubber roofs. John had me come up the ladder to see things for myself as he identified repair issues, which was very helpful. His roofing experience shows, and he took the time to explain everything in detail. The specific repairs that he recommended very closely matched what another inspection had told us, which was reassuring. Once we gave the go-ahead, John and his crew were at our house within a few days, which was great because we were keen on getting the repairs made ASAP. They worked efficiently and were done in one day. He took snapshots of the repairs and phoned me to explain what was done. John also offered to come back free of charge if we spotted any leaks within the first 5-6 rainstorms. His crew was respectful of our plants and left the yard in good shape (no debris). The work came in at 5% under estimate. We felt that it was money well-spent for a sound roof over our heads and the amount of skilled work required. We would recommend them.

John did a great job, really explaining the whole process, responding very quickly and standing by his work. He returned calls promptly and scheduled it very quickly as well, even though we had to delay a little while on our end. It hasn't yet rained so we can't attest to the effectiveness, but it appears as though they did a very thorough job. We are very pleased!
Description of Work: John and his team repaired numerous holes on our rubber roof. We were having some significant leaks during heavy rain. Instead of plugging the area of the hole, he insisted on repairing the entire roof.

John returned my call the next day and came out a few days later to look everything over and gave me an estimate. About a week later he came out with two guys to do the repair work which took about5 hours. Overall the repair quality looks excellent and he fixed and sealed every area that looked to be a problem. Very good communication and great work quality.

Excellent work. Very professional. Very quick to reply to phone calls and to schedule the work. Reliable: on time to both appointments we had made. They use top materials and do a high quality job; they were a bit more expensive than a couple other estimates we got but you get what you paid for and they guarantee the work (will come back at no charge if the fix doesn't work). Also called me a few weeks after the repair to find out if the leak had stopped.
Description of Work: Repairs to rubber roof which had developed a few holes and was leaking. They patched the area, including redoing the nearby flashing. Also checked the seams throughout the entire roof and applied a few extra patches to areas that looked vulnerable.

Our experience with this company was terrific! They responded right away to our initial call, came over promptly to provide an estimate, then followed up several times to schedule the work which they did right away once we gave them the green light to go forward. The actual work on our roof ended up taking twice as long than estimated, and they did more work than originally estimated, but they stood by their estimate and refused to charge us more. We weren't actually home when the job was completed and they called several times to follow up and make sure we had a chance to go up on the roof and see the work and that we were happy with it and make sure we didn't have any questions. They have told us that should there be any problems with the repairs not working they will come back out at no charge. Overall we were very happy!

The roof on the building had been leaking all through the winter. We had TEMCO roofing come in and survey the roof and tell us our options. John arrived on time and with a smile. He informed our roof was in good shape and could use some basic maintenance and would find and repair the leaks. TEMCO was on the job 1 day after agreeing on the scope of work. The roof is a flat rubber roof with rocks as ballast. John found some cracks in the rubber and repaired them. He gave his word that if the repair did not hold he would come back no charge. Well, the repair did not hold. I called John and within a day he and his crew was back to find the leak. He carefully looked under the ballast and found a seam that had been broke. They repaired it & gave me the same guarantee. Here is what impressed me most about John at TEMCO. For the next 4 or 5 big rain storms John called me to see if the repair was holding. He really takes his job seriously. He wants the customer to be 100% satisfied. I sure am.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience Tempco roofing. Their quote was the lowest price I received and the workmanship was excellent. They arrived on time, were neat, and were very accommodating in working around my schedule.
Description of Work: Tempco roofing performed extensive patching and flashing work on a flat rubber roof. They were very meticulous in their work and John was more particular than I was with regard to making sure that everything was done correctly. They did a fine job in general and also fixed a long standing leak that I had try to fix several timed before.

John is a credit to his profession. He is a well-known neighborhood company that deserves praise for responsiveness, professionalism, punctuality and job-cost control. His knowledge of installation and repair of flat roofs was evident in the prompt diagnosis and remediation of problems. John came the same day I called, and provided a thorough assessment of problems that required attention. The job was completed the very same day. John provided helpful before and after photos to illustrate the problems he found and the steps he took to remediate them. Aside from the well-deserved accolades that appear on this list, note that, as he was offering advice and an estimate on a busy city sidewalk, several passersby (also satisfied customers) were meeting and greeting him, offering their own informal testimony as to the quality of his work. John is honest, helpful and thorough. It is clear that he takes great pride in his work. Hoping now for rain, to road-test John's work!
Description of Work: John came with crew and performed repairs on a two-story Southie row house. This 135 year-old house has a flat rubber roof that meets a mansard. The work entailed thorough and complete repair of failed seams at chimney, where roof meets mansard, and where roof meets abutting property. Flashing was repaired to address extreme water flow from rubber roof that was adversely affecting the mansard, exterior carpentry and siding. The job also included a good inspection of the mansard roof and the entire water problem area, and minor but critical repairs to soffit flashing and gutters.

Roofer was on time. Very polite as were his workman. I would not hesitate to recommend Tempco Roofing. This work was done in between to major rain storms so I had an opportunity to see that the problem was solved. His promise is to return for free if the problem was not solved. There were no leaks.
Description of Work: Repair of leaks in a flat roof. Caulking around a window that has northern exposure and was showing signs of wear. Added an elbow to the downspout and repaired brick that had been worn away by the water that the downspout had been allowing. Removed growth around the edge of the roof and resealed the edge.

All the good things you read about John and Tempco are true. It was a pleasure doing business with John and his crew, and I would recommend Tempco to anyone. He was quick to respond to my initial call and inquiry, and was very up front, knowledgeable, and honest about my options. He gave me a much better price for a much better product than I'd received from another company's estimate. The spring rains interrupted the installation of my roof, and John made sure there would be no leaks in the interim. He called to make sure there were no problems during the rains, and kept me informed about scheduling the completion. This was absolutely the best experience you could have when dealing with a contractor.

This company saved us from the terrible situation from another plumber. Very professional, friendly, highly skilled. John from Tempco was fantastic! He returned my call right away. He came out, surveyed the problem, and gave me an estimate the next day. When he got onto the roof he realized there was going to be more work than originally stated and yet he did the additional work WITHOUT GOING OVER HIS ORIGINAL ESTIMATE!!!! Not only that, he took before and after pictures. Although the roof is pretty old, the work John did was so good, it should get me several more years before I need to replace it. In addition, John called me after he finished the job and took his time explaining everything he did and patiently answered all my questions. John is professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable and just a pleasure to work with. When the roof does need replacing, John is the only roofer I'll call.

We had a major leak in our flat tar roof of our Southie/Dot triple- decker. John responded to our call immediately and was the first to show for an estimate. John showed up before the other roofers even called back. Extremely knowledgeable and professional. Professional, courteous and reliable staff. Calls and shows when he says he will even during a very busy time. John and his staff came back when the first attempt didn't work completely (leaks are pesky and their sources are difficult to identify in one try). He impressed my tough-on-contractors brother who was in town for the second visit. It felt pricey but I still give an A for price given the # of times he came back. Tempco made the last visit weeks ago and we have been dry through the snow and rain (fingers crossed). Highly recommend John and Tempco for patches on flat roofs.
