Hire him. We had at least 5 contractors come in before John and their advice was all over the place and usually on the very costly and invasive end (i.e. rip up the entire roof, including the roof deck and completely replace it) without being certain of the source. John came over, did a thorough examination of the roof and pointed out a few spots that needed patching. He also guessed that something under the stairs leading to the roof deck might be hiding a problem, given where the water damage was occurring inside the units. He ripped up a couple of stairs and pointed out that the original roofers had nailed (yes, nailed) the rubber roof to the wood, creating instant holes through which water was likely entering. He was honest and said that there could be other hidden problems, that the roof should probably be replaced in the not too distant future, but that he would patch everything he saw if we wanted to go that route and buy some time. When he came back to do the work (always punctual and responsive to calls) he did it quickly and efficiently., and left no mess at all. He also noticed a crack in the skylight that he repaired for free. That was 2 months ago and we've experienced some torrential rains and haven't had any signs of water.
Description of Work: Leak of unknown origin causing water damage to first and second floor condo units. John examined the rubber roof and possible causes and patched and sealed several problem areas.

We did not contract Tempco for services, but they provided excellent advice at no cost. John spoke with me on the phone for a long while talking through possibilities for my job even though it wasn't exactly in Tempco's wheelhouse. Very helpful!

John came out to the house and inspected my roof. Found multiple issue that could be causing a leak during heavy rains. He explained everything thoroughly and sent me some pictures and I ask him to commence with the work on the spot. Was really impressed with his timeliness, description of work and knowledge about my roof. It was an older tar and gravel roof and there were multiple issues. John and his team finished the work on a Thursday, we had heavy rains on Saturday (no leak). He even called me on Monday morning to check if there were any issues on Saturday. Exceptional service!
Description of Work: My flat roof would leak when we had heavy rain.

I have had a leak from the rubber roof of my condo complex into my bathroom. I have had umpteen roofers come out and tell me either there was nothing they could do or that it would cost me $5,000-$10,000 to have a crane lift my roof deck off my roof. John came out, spent 15 minutes analyzing my roof and concluded that the problem was simply that we needed a storm door up there. He then took the time to EXPLAIN TO ME THE REASONING BEHIND HIS CONCLUSIONS, which were incredibly rational and helpful in deciding how to proceed. It cost me not a dime. John met me when it was convenient for my schedule, showed up on time, and was incredibly pleasant. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for help with roofing needs.
Description of Work: Provided a thorough analysis of what was causing my roof leak.

I called several roofers to come out and give a quote on my condo building's rubber roof repairs and only two got back to me. John was one of them. John was very nice, personable and helpful over the phone and he followed up with me after I told him I needed to speak with the other unit owners in my building before committing to hiring him. A week later, he took the time to drive over to JP from South Boston while on a break from another job so he could walk our roof and make recommendations for needed repairs. He could've easily told us our roof needed a full replacement or that more work was needed than was necessary, and charged us an arm and a leg, but he was very straightforward and honest and said "look, this is all you need to do, and it's going to do a world of good. Your roof isn't in bad shape and you've got life left in it yet, you just need to maintain it." He quoted a reasonable amount to do a day's work of patching and repairing, to prolong the serviceable life of our roof. He came out one week later after he had a cancellation and did the job with two other men. We were relieved when they finished, and when John walked us through and showed us what was done, knowing that our roof is now safeguarded from any potential leaks - after we amazingly survived the past winter with horrible ice dams and had no issues. Now we feel invincible. John mailed an invoice a week later, and ended up charging us less than what was quoted, and he even threw in a few extras (securing a drain pipe, cleaning debris out of gutters). John's great. It was really nice to have someone so personable and responsive, who took the time to call me back and then follow up after the first rain to see how things were looking. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Cleaned and prepped existing rubber roof surface for patching repairs. Repaired seams and flashings around existing patches. Repaired porch roof and cleaned gutters. Resecured existing drain pipe. Repaired breaks in metal wall cappings along perimter of roof. Resecured all metal with Karnak fibered aluminum coating.

I have used John several times for roof work. He had performed repairs on my previous condo in South Boston. When I was having a deck on my balcony replaced, I wanted to have the flat rubber roof inspected. I called John to schedule an appointment and he came on time (actually a few minutes early). He inspected the roof and we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of replacing the roof. Given that the roof is only 8 years old and in good condition I just had John patch a small area near the drain as a precautionary measure. John explains his thought process and includes you in the decision. I am very pleased with John and would use him again. I did not include the charge but it was very fair.

I couldn't have asked for better service. He not only repaired the problem even though it wasn't related to the roof but didn't charge for the repair.
Description of Work: I have a roof leak in my living room under a rubber roof. I called John Tempesta and described the leak. He did not think it was related to the roof but came within 3 days and called to tell me it was not the roof but a leak around the windows above the roof. He told me he had caulked the windows. When I asked what I owed him he said nothing!!!

He came out right away and spent a significant amount of time explaining our options. Scheduling him was a breeze. John kept us in the loop frequently so we had a really good idea of his start date (which is hard given the impact weather has on a roofer's schedule). His work crew was great and did a fantastic job. We've had no leaks since the repair work (which was several months ago - numerous rain/snow storms since). John also followed up with several calls to make sure we had no issues after some big storms. In addition to good quality work, the company provided some much-appreciated customer service that you just don't see out of most contractors these days. We'd definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: We had John come out to take a look at our condo's roof after we noticed a small leak in our ceiling. We also asked him to take a look for anything in addition that could be problematic in the future.

First and foremost, John, and his crew went way past any of my expectations. I truly wished that I had found this company decades ago. I have the highest level of respect for his company. I would deffinity use Tempco again, and again, and again. Forget the 3 bids system, this is the company for me, and should be for everyone in and around Boston, Ma.
Description of Work: Repaired, all my seams, gutter channels, nail/screw head holes, chaulk all the seams and flashing, Installed edge flashing, this was left off by the original installer. Told me I did not need new roofs, just some proactive work. Was right on with the estimate to do a full rubber roof replacement. Cleaned the whole roof, was very aware of how it would look with the work done. Made single large patches, 4'x4', instead of multiple small patches.

It was a great experience. I'm so happy we found John on Angies List.
Description of Work: John called me back right away and we set up a time to meet. A few days later he came by as planned and spent an hour going over the job and what would be required. We have a rubber roof with a deck on it so it was a complex project. We needed a roofer that was a good problem solver. A few days later he and his crew showed up right on time. They took everything up the side of the building using ropes so it didn't go through the house. They did very neat work which was important because we see the roof from our decks. The day he showed up we added work to the project. Not only did he do the work but he stayed true to his original quote. We have worked with three roofers. Jon is by far the most professional and skilled. He does great work and charges a fair price. It would recommend his service without hesitation to anyone needing roof work.

John called me back immediately after I left him a message to request an estimate. He was extremely friendly and professional, and willing to make time for a small job in his schedule. He explained to me the various ways (and costs) we could repair the roof, invited me up on the garage to look at the damage and his assessment, and made a recommendation. We got several other estimates as well, and his seemed to be mid-range (not the lowest, not the highest). When we finally decided to move ahead with the roof repair, it was getting to be winter and weather was becoming more and more unpredictable. John was uncertain of the exact timing for when he'd be able to do the repair (due to weather and his job schedule), but said he'd let me know as soon as the weather was appropriate and he was able to come over. He stayed in touch by phone, with no reminders from me, and brought his team over in an effort to get our repair done before the next snow storm. They did a really nice job and we were very happy with the work itself and the professional customer service that went along with it. We'd recommend Tempco Roofing for any rubber roof job.
Description of Work: There were a few holes in the rubber roof over our garage caused by falling branches during last fall's hurricane. Tempco Roofing cleaned and dried the roof (it was wet from snow by the time we got around to repairing it), then patched and sealed it.

John was very responsive to my phone call and came out to assess the situation. He came out to the house even though it was outside his normal service area. He took the time to educate me about how the roof should be done, and what I can do to improve the situation. John explained the issues and determined it was something I could easily do myself and even took the time to run some sealant and caulk in the trouble spots for me, since the product required isn't something easily available. His honesty and professionalism were outstanding, and if I have any other roofing issues in the future he will be my first call.
Description of Work: The rubber roof on the garage was leaking where it met the wall of the house. John came out to see what can be done and helped seal the flashing properly.

The roof of our house is mainly slate, although there is a small rubber roof that covers an addition to the house. I called Tempco because our slate roofers noticed possible damage to the rubber roof that they were not equipped to fix or evaluate. Although he told me he was very busy, John came out within a few days to take a look at the roof. (Other roofers I called did not even return my call.) He and his crew went onto the roof (two stories up) and he noticed that, although the roof was fairly old and not in the best of shape, it could hold for some more years. While they were up there, they caulked some seams, John suggested that, unless we wanted to take down the roof completely and install a new one, it was not worth making any more substantial repairs at this time. He told me that if we did not experience leaking or water damage, we could let it be for now. I very much appreciate the time and suggestions that John gave me, and I would very strongly recommend his expertise to anyone looking to evaluate problems with a rubber roof.

The whole process was quick, painless and pleasant. We felt that John was honest and easy to work with.
Description of Work: The company's owner John offered to look at our roof and to apply a temporary solution to get us through the days of rainy weather we have been having. After looking at the problem he described a repair he could do instead of replacing the entire roof surface. He was honest in saying that he could see a lot of problems but that it made sense to start out conservatively rather than removing the entire roof at a much higher cost. After the temporary fix, the leak immediately stopped. John returned a week later with his crew and did very careful work explaining all the steps to me. He offered to return if there were any other problems. We would definitely recommend John for his professionalism and integrity. It has now rained for 5 days straight and we are pleased to report that our bathroom ceiling is a dry as a bone!

John, was very responsive and extremely honest. He found time to come over during his excessively busy schedule that he had. We had two companies come over and look at our flat rubber roof and John seemed to know the most, explained it the best, and price was very reasonable. He was extremely professional and made sure our Condo Association knew what he was doing and how he was attempting to fix it. His work was very thorough and his employees were very professional and he was passionate about this work. He loves his job and I would recommend him to anyone. It rained today and the roof did not leak, so it would seem he fixed the problem.

The upstairs resident of our condo building decided to replace his roof deck. The condo association, which I represent, had been waiting for this opportunity to check whether the rubber roof under the deck needed patching (we had patched the rest of the roof a year or two ago -- using Tempco). Our upstairs resident scheduled a handyman to do the deck replacement on a Monday, but did not let me know about it until the day before. I left John of Tempco a voicemail Sunday evening asking if he possibly could swing by the next morning to look at the roof. I did not want the new deck to go up without some insurance that the roof was ok, but obviously the handyman wanted to get his project done. Anyway, John called me Monday morning when he got my voicemail and told me he was booked with a job on the other side of town and would not be able to come. understandable! Somehow, though, he called me again a bit later to tell me he could squeeze in a quick visit. He came by, looked at the roof, and said it looked in good shape. There were just a couple minor things that the handyman could patch himself. It is remarkable that John was able to do this on essentially no notice, and really at no benefit to him since he charged us nothing.
Description of Work: John came to check the integrity of our rubber roof on essentially no notice, and despite being busy with another job across town. I left a message for him on a Sunday night, he returned the call Monday morning, and squeezed in a visit that same day.

John came up a couple months prior after some heavy rains to check around skylights and did spot caulking around the roof for no charge. Once we were ready to have formal repairs done we called John and he was able to fit us in between larger jobs pretty quickly. He came on time, did a thorough job that was more than we expected, and even cut branches and bundled them for us. Great work!

The flat rubber roof on my home/studio (converted from a commercial garage bldg) needed attention due to only fair installation a few years ago. John came out and looked over the whole roof, identifying what did and, as importantly, did not need repair. He arrived with his crew right on time and they got to work, sweeping off standing water and drying the roof so they could get to work. They fixed seams and re-booted around pipes as needed. They were very professional and left no mess behind. After a heavy rain revealed a small leak, they even came back to "touch up" with no additional charge.
