Initially, I emailed the company through Angie's List and did not hear from them for a month. Their sales department rep recently called and made arrangements for someone to look (from the ground only) at the area I was concerned about. Within 3-4 days, it was quoted and done. I never signed a contract. I knew if they came from Angie's List, I would not have to be concerned. At this point, I owe them the full amount but I really need to see if the repair worked. I'm going to send half and wait for a little rain/ice to see. They were pleasant and professional.

Rich and team did an excellent job. Everyone in the crew was very professional, punctual, friendly and responsive. Rich was very good at answering questions and giving honest advice. Rich had the opportunity to sell us more expensive products on several occasions but advised against it and told us they weren’t worth the extra money, he was very honest. The work was completed on time and on budget. They didn’t do a rush job and made sure everything was the way we wanted it. They also did a good job cleaning up after themselves. I would definitely recommend Rich and his team to anyone who wants great looking siding.

Great - no problems at all. A bit of a delay in scheduling due to weather, but all went well and all looks great.

We recently hired Rich and his crew (Matt, Jason, Rocco, and Joel) to side our 2-family home. To give you a little background--We are budget-conscious homeowners. We bought a fixer upper and do a lot of the work ourselves. We have an extremely high bar for workmanship and have been disappointed by work done by contracted professionals on our house in the past. It has always been of lower quality than the work we do ourselves and of course costs us much more. However, when it came to our house exterior we did not have the time or ability to do it ourselves. And while we prefer the look of a painted house, our house was never going to look great painted because of the numerous terrible paint jobs done in the past and the inability to sand down an older home (lead paint concerns). Not to mention the cost--$10,000 per paint job and needing it every 7 years or so (our last paint job was 7 years ago and it looks terrible already). We decided to go with Certainteed Cedar Impression siding because of how close it looks to a nicely painted shingled home. We searched for contractors based on the best rated Angie?s list contractors and those on Certainteed?s website that were certified to use the materials. We had meetings with and quotes from 3 different contractors based on this search. Rich was one of these. We were floored by the estimates. Rich?s was the highest. But we decided to go with him. Why? Because we went and looked at houses done by each of the contractors, a dozen or so in all, and his were by far of the highest quality. They all looked beautiful and the attention to detail was evident. Particular care is taken with the molding around windows, doors, and at the roof line and with hiding j-channels, a surefire sign of a siding job. He has even invented his own trim to make it look even more like original wood trim, and it does. An untrained eye would be unable to tell that this was siding. And knowing that we were constrained by our budget, he worked with us to reach a compromise. Rich is a consummate professional and his customer service is impeccable. He showed up on time for our first meeting and spent a long time with us explaining the craftsmanship of the job. This is someone who takes pride in what he does. He uses the best materials and uses them correctly. When his estimated start time slipped (understandable for someone whose work is completely dependent upon weather), he was in contact, keeping us updated. He supplied us with addresses to look at colors and even nailed color samples to the house for us to look at. When we were having an outdoor party during the course of the work, they cleaned up all of their work areas, even the ones we didn?t need cleaned and even swept the patio. Rich had a back injury during the job and still showed up, insisting that he needed to be there to make sure everything was done the way he wanted it. Rich and crew have made every effort along the way to make sure that the product is exactly what we want, even losing time to redo things that weren?t how we wanted. Rich put in his trademark fan over our door, and the color was just the tiniest bit off due to an error on the supplier?s part. He pulled it down without any complaint and redid it, losing at least half a day of his time. They changed trim to our preference as well. In none of these interactions were we made to feel like we were putting them out when something needed to be changed. On the contrary, they insist that they want to have it done exactly to our preference. They have all gone out of their way to do an amazing job and it shows. Each one of the crew works with the same attention to detail, all trained by Rich. Our house went from looking the worst on our block to looking the best?no exaggeration. And our neighbors are all stopping by to tell us how wonderful it looks. We?ve realized that while Rich may cost more for a single job than some other contractors, in the end he is being paid less for his time because of the amount of time put into the job. That takes integrity. Do not trust anyone who tells you the job will take a few weeks. If they are doing it right it will take longer. We have a large house, but all told the work will take about 5 weeks, not including rain delays. And if you are really smart, you will hire Rich and his crew. I promise you won?t regret it. I give them 5 stars in everything, price included. For the quality of the job, it?s a bargain. Just go and look at some of his jobs and you?ll know what I mean. Everything else looks like a hack job in comparison. If we ever need siding work again, I just hope he hasn?t retired yet.

They came on schedule and finished on schedule.

Rocco and Matt showed up on time and were friendly, professional and (after the latest rain showed) effective. All you're looking for in someone you want to deal with. I'd use them again.

Matt came on time for an estimate and quoted us a price for the job. He then said he would call back in a few days to confirm he could do it on the weekend. He didn't call back until the next week but at that time scheduled an appointment for the following weekend. He came while we were out and did a good job and charged exactly what he quoted. We'd use them again.

They did the work around labor day. They started earlier than they had estimated earlier - which I liked. They finished on the day that they had thought was likely. In order to finish on time, they even worked a few hours on labor day. There was a small detail left to do at the end, but after just one phone call, that was promptly taken care of. They really seem to understand gutters. They changed the pattern in which gutters are arranged in trouble spots around the house, explaining first why these had been trouble spots. Not only do the gutters work now, they also look better. They were very careful to replace the squirrel control stuff that we had in place, so that we don't expect to get a squirrel problem again (as we did after the house was painted by a different company some time ago). They are fun guys and they seem to love what they are doing.

We have used RJ SCALZI twice for gutter cleaning and repair and we very pleased with the work both times. Both jobs were small, but we received very professional treatment.

I had two companies come out for the estimate at the same time. The other company quoted $1,500 while this company quoted me $550. It was a huge difference. Their price was very reasonable; it was the most reasonable price I had received. They seemed more knowledgeable, more helpful, and more honorable. They showed me pictures of the work that they had previously done. Their work looked great. I am definitely going to use them. It is just that they need to more work and they did give me an estimate for that. However, I have decided to submit a claim to the siding brand company to see if they will pay for it. I fully intend to use this company.

I made a great choice when I was deciding on where to look to have my house sided. I ended up getting 3 quotes and Rich came back with the best one, along with samples, which the other companies didn't bother to do even though I asked for them. The job was supposed to be done in January, but was pushed to March, since we had such horrible weather. That didn't bother me, since I wasn't in a rush to get the job done. My house is pretty old, 1936, and was in need of some major TLC. I won't go into detail about how much I enjoyed working with Rich and his crew. They were truly professional and very nice throughout the whole process. I would highly recommend them; I really cannot believe that it's still the same house. The bonus part of it, is that Rich sends the homeowner a photo album of before and after pictures so you can REALLY get an idea as to how your house looks. I am extremely pleased.

Great service-they were fast and professional.

Rich and one of his sons (both sons are partners in his family-owned business) showed up promptly and spent quite a bit of time with us answering our questions and explaining the ins and outs of home siding. They are pleasant, professional, patient -- and very knowledgeable about their work. They quoted us a price of approx $25,000 to reside our very large house (and replace all gutters and trim) and under $500 to repair the damaged parts. Based on our meeting -- and if we were financially prepared to do the entire project -- we would have hired Rich on the spot. However, he was booked for several months and with winter around the corner, we thought we should wait. Plus, his was our first estimate and we had no idea how much these things cost. Six months later, we had our home insulated and we replaced some windows and doors through a home insulation company. Our insulation contractor suggested we consider hiring his company to re-side our house. While we still were not sure we were ready for the financial commitment, we bit the bullet and went ahead, as we were confident of his work and his price was comparable to Rich Scalzi's. Bottom line: Just because of the way things turned out (with timing and other projects on our house), we ended up not hiring Rich. But that is no reflection on him and we certainly would have hired him under different circumstances. In any event, I would absolutely give him the HIGHEST recommendation based on our initial meeting six months ago.

I had used Rich in te past for a siding job and needed some windows replaced. His crew was exceptional and the quality of work was the same. RIch has a wealth of knowledge and referred me to one of his associates to do some masonary work in my cellar as well. I was extremely pleased with the quality of work and would not go else where for my home improvement needs. The windows came in at price and they were in and out quickly and cleaned up after themselves. They were the best!

I would contact Rich for another job.

A storm blew off a siding patch that had been there when we moved into this house. A second storm blew off more siding. It looked horrible. Scalzi came out to give us an estimate for the insurance company (they ended up not paying anything) and then a second time for another estimate for us. When we called back to hire him he came out a third time to go over the work to be done and sign a contract. He showed up within the time frame he had given. He was punctual and came at the time of day he said he would. He was very good at communicating. He did the work in less time than expected. Everything was cleaned up thoroughly. They were very friendly and respectful to us and our property. We would highly recommend hiring Scalzi.

We joined Angie?s List to find a siding contractor (along the way, we found an excellent carpenter and plumber, as well). To return to the point, with the list?s help, we selected Rich Scalzi to install Cedar Impressions shingles on our Cape, as well as new aluminum storm windows and gutters. From the initial meetings, when (before we signed on) he spent generous amounts of time answering questions, explaining procedures, and providing a guided tour of prior jobs, to the project?s completion, clean-up, and his unexpected gift of a booklet of before and after photos, Rich and his crew (Rocco and Matt) were a pleasure to deal with. They started and finished the job when promised, were courteous to us and our neighbors, handled unexpected problems with grace, explained the pros and cons of choices that had to be made as the project progressed, treated our property with respect, and went above and beyond the letter of the contract to insure our satisfaction with their work. Most important, they used their extensive experience and their craftsmen-artists? skills to retain the house?s characterizing details: window casings, moldings, dentils, and so on, the sort of things lesser installers erase or obscure. R.J. Scalzi may be a shade more expensive than other top-level siding contractors; the difference in professionalism, pleasantness, and quality of work is more than worth it. We recommend Rich and his crew with enthusiasm.

Mr. Scalzi and his team showed up promptly for both the estimate and for the scheduled work time, answered (many many) questions, took time to really look around and assess the situation, showed great attention to detail, were neat and organized, efficient and conscientious, and went above and beyond what we asked them to do. We would definitely use them again if we need further work done to the house.

Rich was exceptional for the services he provided and the knowledge that he possesses. He totally exceeded my expectations! His 2 sons are top notch as well. I interviewed 3 other contractors for my job and Rich was right there in price..however he was far superior in his knowledge and experience. I would easily recommend him to any and all others. His extensive repair to my aluminum siding blew me away and my house now looks fantastic! Exceptional job!

Rich Scalzi is one of the most ethical, honest and knowledgeable contractors I have met. I needed to increase ventilation through the soffit for a roof to minimize ice dams. I spoke to a few contractors on how to best perform this work and received some quotes. I then spoke with Rich and he cme up with some great ideas on how to do the work and it came out beautifully. the other nice suprise was the cost. He was lower than the other contractors. He sent out the quote, did not ask for money to hold the spot, came when he said he would, cleaned up everything. I would highly recommend him for work.

I couldn't be more pleased with Rich Scalzi. He's everything you want in a contractor: professional, experienced, punctual, careful, and very focused on quality. He and his son did a high quality job on our home, and it came in on time and on the price we agreed upon. He is not the cheapest provider out there, but I am a firm believer in paying a little more for top quality, and that's what you get with Rich. I highly recommend him.

They did the work in the time frame they said they would and were very professional. They transformed my house from the worst looking house on the street to the best looking. I got many comments from neighbors about the way Rich and his crew were doing a great job. I would hire them again even though they are more expensive than other estimates. The quality and the way they pay attention to detail is why I think they are better than the rest.

I contacted Rich Scalzi for a quote for siding, as I read great reports about his work (here on Angie's List). I thought I wanted fiber cement siding at the time. Rich pointed out that this was very heavy and is similar to the old asbstos cement siding (which I happened to have on my house). It also needs to be painted periodically, something I did not want to deal with in the future. He came by and showed me samples of his work and pointed out that the vinyl siding of today is not the vinyl siding of the 70's. Rich has a passion for his work that convinced me he was the right person to hire, and I really liked the samples he showed me. I got the old siding removed and Rich installed Cedar Impressions siding and aluminum trim, using his own design for covering the bay window on the front of my house. He also suggested a mantle for the top of the windows on the front of the house. He also went the extra mile to make sure that he could reinstall the 100 year old doorbell, which required special hardware. The work was delayed somewhat by all the rain this summer but Rich and his sons showed up each day it didn't rain and got the job done on schedule as promised. My 100 year old house is transformed and I am delighted with the results. Rich and his sons were courteous and professional throughout. I highly recommend them for their great work.
