We own an old cape down the south shore that was in desperate need of new siding. Matt and his team exceeded expectations across the board. Matt started and finished the job exactly on the dates he committed to. He did an excellent job communicating and sending progress pictures every day. He was helpful when we needed to make decisions on things. Overall, on time, on budget and great communicator.

You may be reading this because hiring contractors to do work you know little about is a bit anxiety provoking and can result in some unpleasant results. Even though I have a background in engineering and construction, I moved forward with vinyl siding my home with some trepidation. My wife and I did some research and through a friend’s recommendation hired RJ Scalzi and Sons. The work scope included replacing fascia boards, rake boards, gutters, shutters and downspouts and installing vinyl siding. Jason and Matt showed up on time, and it very soon became clear that they were extremely skilled at their craft. Through every step of the project, they took measures to minimize inconveniencing us, including location of work vehicles and work benches, preventing damage to lawn, shrubs and trees, securing artwork on walls and shelves to prevent damage, communicating updates on schedule and timelines and maintaining a neat work area. Not only did it appear that Jason and Matt were talented, but it was also obvious that they have honed an extremely efficient team that executes work safely, quickly and with the highest quality. Two minor unexpected and out of work scope problems arose during the project that instead of dropping on my lap, as they rightfully could have, they took action and got resolved. Over the days Jason and Matt worked on our home, we were constantly impressed with the quality and efficiency of their work. A major plus was the professional, considerate and friendly demeanor both young men exhibited throughout the project. We enjoyed listening to their good natured banter, that didn’t slow them down one bit, and interacting with them. The completed project looks great and met all of our requirements, a neighbor even stopped by and asked for an estimate. Jason and Matt’s ability to combine high quality efficient work with very winning personal ways made the vinyl siding of our house a great experience and this may sound strange, but it was fun to have them around. Matt Amaru from R.J. Scalzi & Sons is a true craftsman. We chose him to reside our split-level house (CertainTeed Pacific Blue), and we couldn't be happier. The photos speak for themselves -- our midcentury house looks brand-new, and we've had multiple neighbors stop by to compliment the results. Matt was thorough and thoughtful from the start. He took time to explain the options, then gave a detailed estimate and broke down the costs for each line item. He also provided numerous examples of houses he'd worked on so we could go check out the work for ourselves. He was very responsive and communicative throughout the process, and gave regular updates about what to expect. His team was great, hardworking, and friendly. I was very excited the day they put up the signature fan detail over our dining room window (see second picture). We're an official part of the Scalzi portfolio now! As others have said, Matt goes the extra mile. He went out of his way to troubleshoot a roof drainage issue over our porch caused by less-than-stellar work performed by a previous contractor, and relocated a tricky downspout without hesitation when we asked. Matt and team also did an incredibly thorough job keeping the site clean, with Matt making extra visits to our house before snowstorms just to tidy up materials and tools. I really can't say enough good stuff about Matt in particular and R.J. Scalzi in general. I wish I had another house that needed re-siding just so I could watch the transformation happen all over again. We're going to miss having Matt and the guys around!

Matt (owner operator) and his crew (J & Brandon) were absolutely fantastic! The quality of the work and their work ethic was exceptional. Matt is the consummate professional. What he said he would do happened at a 110% level, and when he said it would happen was spot on. Never have I had a contractor respond so quickly to virtually all communications and have such flawless follow through. My experience with contractors historically is horrible. Matt is truly the exception. Our home is a late victorian and I had searched extensively for a pro that could maintain the character of the period of the home. No-one in this search even came close to the attention to detail that he actualized. Matt / RJ Scalzi & Sons did an extraordinary job recreating our home and we could not be happier! They have my strongest recommendation.

Scalzi and Sons is a top-notch organization. They really know their business, and are true professionals. In particular, Matt Amaru is very responsive, friendly, conscientious, and customer focused. On more than one occasion, Matt went the extra mile. For example, he spent over 2 hours helping identify and fix a roof/dormer leak NOT of his making (roofers fault) - at no additional charge. We have used Scalzi and Sons on two separate properties, and would not hesitate to call on them again. HIGHLY recommend.

Matt was amazing to work with. He was extremely responsive and professional. Also, I can't say enough about the quality of their work. It is outstanding. They'll be back this year to re-side our garage to match the house.

Matt and his crew were fantastic, upfront on our options, and simply did a tremendous job for us. They’ve added incredible value to our property, looked rough before and great now, We had a problem over a year after the work was done, they truly back up their excellent craftsmanship and responded quickly and repaired a roof problem that wasn’t even part of their exceptional work. We hired Matt and his team to install vinyl siding over our existing shake shingles, along with replacing all the trim and gutters. Matt was very responsive. After our initial appointment, he was able to schedule the work shortly after. He quoted 3-4 weeks from start to finish, which was accurate, despite the weather not always cooperating. They were very professional, efficient and detail oriented (to the point that they re-did an area that they didn’t like the way the finished product came out). We are incredibly happy with the final product - it looks like a brand new house. We would definitely hire them again. Highly recommended.

Matt was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and spent over 2 hours reviewing siding options with me. The time that he spent convinced us that he and his team were detail oriented and would do a great job. We decided not to pursue the siding work at this time but will call him again in the summer when we are ready to make a final decision on siding color.

Matt was responsive, professional and even came over during the last Nor’Easter to assess the situation and make a temporary repair until the weather cleared. He came back the next day and took care of everything. Very reasonable price and I was very impressed with how responsive Matt was. Thank you!!

It could not have gone any better. This family owned company is first rate with all experienced and insured installers who pay incredible attention to detail. (No sub-contractors) Matt gave a thorough estimate and explained all of our options patiently. Matt, Jason, Steve and Rocco as well as a couple of appearances by the master himself, Richard Scalzi, (Matt and Rocco's Dad) were all great guys who are very hard-working and trustworthy. These guys will give suggestions on any trouble areas that need to be addressed. Have I mentioned Jason and Steve (the glue that holds this team together)? Thanks to all of you, my wife, kids and I could not be happier with the amazing transformation of our home. No more scraping and painting every 5 years! We chose the high end products that were more expensive but well worth it, sealing the property very nicely, looks like individual wood shingles even up close. RJ Scalzii & Sons did some window installations for us and we are delighted to recommended them as a contractor. From our first call to them Matt was responsive, careful and accommodating. Each time we contacted him he responded promptly. He came back twice, bringing his associate Jay to re-measure and ensure that the order and installation would go smoothly. On the day of the installation Matt and Jay arrived promptly and immediately got to work. In watching, I could see how focused and diligent they were. They finished the job early. Matt takes particular pride in his work, believing that his family’s name and reputation is on the line with each job. He always wants to ensure that it is right the first time. Our initial order was small, but we were so pleased with their work that we decided to have them replace the remaining windows of our house. And by the way, they both have wonderful senses of humor, an added bonus.

Extremely responsive, punctual, and 100% committed to providing quality services. Matt and his crew went out of their way to be helpful. Will definitely use their services again should the opportunity arise.

Matt came out to look at the damage on a Sunday, took pictures so he could explain to me what was going on (involved the facia board as well), carefully went over various options for repair the advantages/disadvantages of each, and followed up his estimate with an email that night. He got and painted the replacement facia board that night as well. He came out the very next morning with the upbeat, friendly family crew right on time, and consulted with me when he found some damage to the soffit. He made an adjustment and was able to fix the soffit for no extra $ and added a few extras as well, including fixing my roof heat wires that had come unclipped. All in all, a very positive experience with trustworthy, capable people, who definitely have the interests of the customer at heart. I was impressed and can't recommend them highly enough.

Matthew Amaru of R.J. Scalzi & Sons did our recent siding repair. He and his crew were friendly, respectful, and worked quickly. They were not the contractors who initially installed the siding on the building when it was built, but they pointed out errors the original contractors had made as they walked me through their own installation process to replace and repair damage siding. R.J. Scalzi & Sons has absolutely fair prices, and Matthew found siding that matched our building when another contractor had failed to do so. Thus far our replacement siding is holding up, and I have nothing but good things to say about Matthew and R.J. Scalzi and Sons. Definitely hire them for your next siding job. He also replaced a window for us; thus far, I have no complaints on the window either. A+ service.

Matt reacted fast to my call and came to look at the house in a few hours. His proposal to address the problem was very professional and the best in term of pricing. I needed to have the repair done in a 2-3 weeks before my vacation. I agreed to a flexible schedule but asked him to call me before he do the job. He called in a few days and informed me that the job was done. I wanted to be present during the job and since he did not call in advance this is the only reason why I gave him only 4 stars on punctuality. Otherwise, the job was done very clean and professional. He modified initial proposal and there were a few points, which I was concerned of at that time. Now, after a year, I can see that my concerns were not serious. I would hire Matt again and highly recommend him as a polite and skillful contractor.

Matt was professional and made time before the cold spell hit to assess and finish the job in a few hours. He did quality work and was friendly and explained everything thoroughly. He is honest and fair and strives to do good work. I'm pleased to have found him for future gutter work.

My experience with RJ Scalzi was excellent. Matt at RJ Scalzi responded quickly to my initial inquiry, gave me a straightforward and reasonable quote for the job, and scheduled the work right away. We had to reschedule at one point due to weather, but Matt kept me posted on timing the entire time. Upon installing the gutter, Matt noticed that part of the fascia board has rotted away and he replaced it free of charge. This was above and beyond the scope of the project and he could have just as easily charged for the additional work, but he didn't which was much appreciated. Overall, the team's work was excellent and new gutter looks great. Matt was very professional throughout the entire process and I would highly recommend. I plan to reach out to him again next Spring for another project.

Can't say enough about how positive an experience working with these guys was. The whole process, from start to finish was a great experience. I got 2 other similarly priced estimates, but I know I made the right decision in choosing Scalzi. Matt and Steve are true professionals and all-around nice guys. They were prompt, polite and clean. The incredible eye to detail clearly shows in the final product; which seriously surpassed my expectations. It was a pleasure working with both Matt and Steve and I would hire them a gain in a minute.

From the start, Rocco, Matt, Jay and all the rest of crew were professional and knowledgeable, Their skill and attention to detail was fantastic. We have an older home and they offered suggestions and plans that kept it's character and charm. Their craftsmanship was evident from the start and was maintained throughout the entire project. Everything went very well. They did a great job and were very professional. There was brief span when my messages to them went unanswered, but they had had some deaths in the family, so it was understandable. Dealing with a small, family-owned company, sometimes things like this will happen. I already have plans to work with them again for this season, including removing a TV dish that belonged to the previous owners of this building.
