These guys were excellent. We talked with a few other contractors, but Scalzi impressed us the most. They had great ideas about our house and listened very closely to what our vision was. They worked closely with us to maintain some of the detail of the house that was important to us. We talked color and design many times to make sure we were all on the same page and that we were happy with our own choices. The windows were delivered on time and installed in one day! Matt and his crew are really great guys. They had fun with our dog and didn't mind him hanging around while they worked. There was no price rigging at the end. Their quote was true. Before we hired them, we took a tour of previous jobs they had completed, and we were lucky enough to chat with some of the homeowners, who all gave rave reviews. We had to wait in the cue for our turn, but the wait was worth it. They do excellent work, and we highly recommend R.J. Scalzi & Sons!

My experience with the guys from RJ Scalzi and Sons was fantastic from the start to finish. Upon first contact, Matt was timely with his response, and after booking a time to get a quote he came out and spent close to an hour and a half going through the process with me. He walked me through the entire process, showed examples of how their work differentiates themselves among their competitors, he had materials with him to show the quality and care they take in their installation process, and took the time to ensure I was comfortable with the job. As this was a big undertaking (especially for a relatively new homeowner) he was open and honest, encouraged me to get other quotes, and spent enough time measuring the house to give an exact quote with materials cost that held true at the end of the job. When I decided to sign up and go with Scalzi and Sons, I spoke to Matt about some personal time constraints on when the job would take place, and he was able to find a time earlier than originally quoted that worked for the crew and for me, I can't thank them enough for that. Matt's brother Rocco was the first on the job when we began, getting everything set up and taking appropriate measurements to ensure the siding would be going on level as my house is built into a slight hill so the exterior lawn is not even across the stretch of the front. Everyone on the Scalzi and Son team was personable and nice to chat with while on the job site. My wife was home for some of the work being done, they were courteous and respected her privacy while in the house as they would work on other parts of the house in that case. Matt and Rocco both spent time with me checking in, showing me what had been done, asking small detail questions to ensure the job was in line with what i was expecting. They have a small aluminum design piece they put at the peak of the roofline on one side of the house (their signature design) and they were comfortable putting it up, making sure the boss (my wife) was happy with how it looked, and were willing to replace it even after the work went in if she wasn't content (it looks great by the way, definitely take them up on it). Their father even stopped by on two occasions to make sure the boys were keeping the work up to standard, it was nice to see. Overall they stuck to the timeframe, the cost remained exactly as quoted, any issues that came up were resolved quickly, and they were attentive to managing my expectations from start to finish. Matt spent another hour or more after the job going through everything that was done to ensure we were in good shape. I will note that a few weeks later, we noticed an issue with being able to open some of the windows on the house (we have old crank windows that are a bit odd) Matt got my late night email, called me the next day, and the following day he had the entire crew and his father over. They had moved a Saturday job around, came out all hands on deck, and fixed every issue despite my windows being part of the problem for no additional fee. Good luck finding that level of service and pride in their work! I can't say enough about the quality and care that RJ Scalzi and Son bring to the table. I highly recommend bringing Matt out for a quote and you'll see the professionalism and honesty in action. We've already talked about getting the team back out to help me replace my windows in time. I am so proud of how my house looks after having The Scalzis do the job. I am very pleased about every single detail of their work. And paying attention to details is exactly what they were all about. There are a couple things I would really like to talk about. First off, I had previously hired a contractor who bought about three thousand dollars worth of stock and then did not do the work. He left me with a big pallet of siding in my back yard for about two years. Upon arrival Rocco gave me a fair estimate to side my house. Then I reluctantly asked him about using the two year old siding that I had already paid for. I was blown away when he said "yes". and he just deducted that money from his estimate. Secondly, each day when I came home from work I would be amazed how meticulously they preformed their work that day. They often went out of their way to make sure everything looked much, much better than awesome. A number of times Rocco, would see me looking at something that they had already completed. He wouldn't just ignore me yet he would literally drop what he was doing and ask me what was the matter? Many contractors just wouldn't do that. Lastly the thing I also liked about these guys is that they didn't "nickel and dime" me about extra time. Not once did they charge me for more time even if I asked for a change of plans. Even if it was much more labor intensive. At first we thought they were just "yessing" us to death but they did every single thing that they said they would do without exception or added costs. To sum up there where only two things that seemed to matter to these guys. The first thing that mattered to these guys was that I needed to be extremely satisfied about their work. And equally important to them was that they needed to maintain a very high work standard and quality of craftsmanship

Very professional and knowledgeable. Up front with details. Gave us options for different styles available. Did all the measurements and ordering. Gave us an approximate date for installation based on when windows would be ready and kept to it. Had 1 issue with a window dimension but instead of ordering it and having us pay for possible error, remeasured and re-ordered it.

I have noticed that water leaks into the basement behind vinyl siding (next to chimney) during heavy rains. I once hired a general contractor, but could not pin-point the issue. This time, I submitted service request to 3 providers via Angie's List. Rocco (from RJ Scalzi & Sons) replied to me the same day, and quickly scheduled a free estimate within a few days. Rocco is willingly to work around my schedule and showed up on time for free estimate AND found out the issue!! We rescheduled the work twice due to his busy schedule. This is OK since I was informed the schedule change in advance (good communication!!). He & his brother showed on time again for the work and finished the repair within an hour! in addition to replacing the soaked board behind the vinyl siding, he also added aluminum sheets on both side the board. This is a work beyond!! Two days after the work, we had a short storm. I found no water leak. I'll give it more time to see the result and might update this review later. I appreciated his easy going, good communication, and excellent work. I'm not sure about the price since there is no comparison, but I think it is reasonable. By the way, out of 3 providers, one replied the same day saying they don't provide such service. the 2nd replied the next day and scheduled a free estimate but didn't show.

Matt, his brother and crew did a great job. We had agreed to split up the work as they became available since they were overbooked early in the summer. These guys are friendly and like to joke around (and even argue sometimes) with each other. They found a bee problem and Matt came around with his father to fix the problem which I found to be well beyond the call of duty. Ultimately, I needed to call in the professionals to deal with the bees but I really appreciated the effort. After three visits they completed the work and it looks great.

I was very impressed with the wonderful reviews for R.J. Scalzi and Sons and having already gotten two other estimates for vinyl siding decided to go with this company. One of the sons, Rocco Amaru, came out twice in early May with his cousin and spoke with me at my house showing all the wonderful things they could do, including their own designs to cover the fluted columns and dentil work under the gutters on my small colonial. They measured and explained in detail how the work would proceed and then agreed to honor an Angie's List coupon. On his last visit, about a week later, Rocco wrote out a proposal which I accepted, telling me I would be put on their July schedule. This was around the middle of May this year. He said he would arrange with me to come out to my house again with color samples which would then be tacked onto my wood clapboards to help me finalize the color I wanted. I emailed a few more times asking him to adjust the colors he was to bring and finally he wrote that he would arrive the first week of June. He never showed. When I called to find out when he would come, he first scheduled one day, then the next, then another, each time offering pretty lame excuses for why he "forgot", or was in traffic, responding only when I was the one to call and ask if everything was all right. He finally promised absolutely to show up on Friday June 5th at 3:30PM. At 7 when he hadn't arrived -- or even called to cancel -- I left a message on his phone saying I no longer wanted to hire him, that he was clearly unreliable. I never heard back from Rocco or anyone at his family's company. I am thankful that I never gave him a deposit. I believe in giving positive comments for contractors who deserve them and rarely if ever have I shared negative reviews. But because there continue to be positive reviews posted on Angie's List about this company, I felt I should share my experience.

I had a terrific experience with this company, starting from when I spoke with them on the phone to schedule a time for them to do an estimate, through completion of the work. They took the time to really understand what work we needed done, then they talked through the estimate with me and discussed exactly what they would do. Their quoted price was extremely reasonable and in line with what I think this type of work should cost. It was $500 less than another quote I received from a company that did not even bother to ring my doorbell when they came to look at the gutters. This other company just jumped out of their truck, looked at the gutters while I was still inside the house, then drove away and emailed me a quote later in the day. RJ Scalzi on the other hand took the time to look at the gutters with me and explain what they proposed to do, the types of materials they would use, etc. We got lucky and were able to get on their schedule for the very next day. Work was completed promptly and professionally and the new gutters look terrific. Great company, will definitely use them in the future and have already recommended them to others.

My experience was what I have come to expect from Richard Scalzi, which is exceeds expectations. The price was half of what anybody else charged. I was interesting in looking at fiber glass gutter work. He went and researched a bunch of different ones to see what the quality was like to make sure I would be happy with what was installed. It was well beyond expectations. He gave a couple of suggestions on the coils that he put on there. His price was half of what the next lowest price competitor was. He does phenomenal work. We also had a problem at our house. He was willing to come over and fix some of that for us while he was here. He was incredibly prompt. He had to work over the weekend and give us a couple of days advance notice. He called us when he was going to drop his equipment off. He showed up exactly when he told us he would be there. He is a dream contractor. I would definitely use him in the future.

I can not say enough positives about my experience with RJ Scalzi and Sons. If A+ were an option they would have received one in all the above categories. Matt and his crew were always polite, professional and wanted to be sure that I was pleased with what they did. Matt was very quick to respond to my first call and came the next day to do an estimate of the job. The estimate seemed fair, and I asked him to do the work. When I added more work to the original contract, Matt was pleased to do it. He also tried to keep the costs down as well. Matt always called to let me know when they were coming. They always arrived when they said they would. Matt and his staff were always very responsive to my questions or concerns. The north end of my house finally looks great. A wooden fire escape had been removed several years ago, and the repair job did not look good. The new black shutters are beautiful too. The trim around the windows and doors finally make the three season porch addition look finished. I was very pleased with the completed work and with my experience with Matt and his crew. I highly recommend them without reservation to anyone who needs work to be done by skillful professionals.

Matt and company did a great job of fixing the corner gutter that is located three stories high above the ground. They also inspected other areas of the gutter as requested. From the time he gave us a quote to finishing the job, they had been very professional. They are also responsive to any questions and concerns. I highly recommend this company.

My husband and I hired RJ Scalzi and Sons to vinyl side our house in July 2014, and we could not be more pleased with the results. Every surface was upgraded, including siding, shutters, gutters, soffits, and rakes. The house looks brand new! Matt and his team were consummate professionals throughout the entire process, which I?ve tried to outline below. We originally came across RJ Scalzi through Angie?s List research. We were impressed by the numerous positive reviews, which are all well-deserved judging from our experience with Matt and his team. We called Matt in late spring, and he came to the house one evening and provided a very detailed explanation of the vinyl siding process, his team, and the products he uses. Matt had a clear way of explaining his work that indicated his expertise in the area. I took a lot of comfort from this, knowing that he would be the one actually performing the work. He shared pictures of houses he?d worked on in the past and also gave us several references that first evening. He also provided an initial estimate of fees. At the time, we didn?t have any basis for comparison, but after contacting another vendor his fees were extremely fair and well-priced. Once we?d decided to use RJ Scalzi, we selected several potential colors. Matt nailed samples of each color to the side of our house. It was extremely helpful for us to see the colors on the house rather than via a small sample. As we narrowed down our selections to two colors, Matt was also able to provide references of houses he?d done in those specific colors. Seeing the color on a whole house provided us with context and made the choice easy for us. A few weeks later, Matt and his team showed up and the work began. I found the process to be far more consultative than I expected. Matt repeatedly asked our opinion on certain aspects of the work, which we really appreciated. On several occasions, he?d text my husband and I with pictures of what the team was working on to see if we were pleased with their progress. I was really pleased with this approach, because I?d far rather have him ask our opinion beforehand rather than coming home to a house we didn?t like! Matt and his team went above and beyond throughout the course of the work and really wanted to make sure we were happy. In addition to the siding work, they helped us install new lighting fixtures and rain barrels and even sprayed for some bee hives they found while performing the work. They also offered to help remove an old entertainment center we had in our house! These thoughtful considerations are small examples of the professionalism, attention to detail and courtesy Matt and his team displayed throughout the process. We could not be more satisfied with the quality of the work performed, the professionalism of the team and the final product. Matt and his team are genuinely nice guys who are really great at their craft. I would strongly recommend RJ Scalzi and Sons for any vinyl siding project.

Fantastic! Matt and his team are great - responsive, respectful, professional and extremely easy to work with. The estimate they provided was fair and accurate (the actual work did not exceed the estimate). And, the work was done quickly and on time, which was very important to me as my schedule can be inflexible. The quality of the their work is superior to that done by the original installer. I would highly recommend RJ Scalzi & Sons to others; and, would readily use them again for a home improvement project.

The job went great. I've done two very large additions, and have had countless other smaller projects done, and these guys were at the top of the heap, no pun intended. It seems like every contractor/plumber/electrician/tile guy/landscaper should do what they say they will, when they say they will, for the price they said they'd do it at - seems like business 101, right? Anyone who has had work done knows this isn't always the case. With Matt and his crew - it was. He came out promptly, gave me a competitive quote - within $300 of the lowest quote and several thousand below the highest, and showed up when he said he would. And the work and workers were top notch. The crew went above and beyond to get things right, and everything came out great. They were installing replacement windows measured, incorrectly, by someone else and ran into a bunch of problems. Matt's window guy stayed with it and figured it out, which took a lot more time and a bit more materials to install - but Matt didn't charge me anything additional. I'm planning to give these guys another call to fix yet another siding issue caused by another contract quite awhile ago. These guys are great to work, and the fact that I'd give them future business says it all.

One of the gutters of our rental property fell off due presumably to the weight of snow and ice. We called three different places about getting a new one put on. One of them was totally unresponsive. The other gave us an outrageously expensive estimate for the work. Greg from RJ Scalzi responded quickly to our inquiry, sent us reasonable estimate promptly and came out to do the work quickly and exactly when they said they would. They even sent us a picture after it was completed. Everything looks great. We would absolutely use them again.

It went really well. They were very neat & organized and showed up on time. They took pride in their work and I would recommned them to anyone.

These guys matched the level of price, timing, and quality that *I* wanted. They listened to me, communicated the best approach, and were really flexible about getting the job done. And then got it done and got it done the right way (based on decades of perfecting their skills) Not that you care, but they designed many of the manufactured products that I ordered from an internationally known manufacturer). Their communication throughout the process was great; letting me know what to expect, what issues they were contending with, and working around my schedule. They took care of all the details that I would never have thought of - putting plastic roof cement on nail holes (my neighbor paid ten or twenty thousand to have contractors install copper ridge lining only to have the contractor nail it in and create holes that caused leaking that had never existed before and required a complete re-do) RJ Scalzi And Sons' expertise, integrity, and thoroughness put contractors like that to shame. I watch HGTV a lot and Mike Holmes would be proud of these guys. Even if you don't know anything about siding, aluminum, windows, or gutters, in fact, especially if you don't know anything about these things, RJ Scalzi And Sons will get it done right. No skimping, no making it look good but actually cutting corners to maximize profits, no hiring incompetents, etc. I would hire them again in a second and am only too happy to write this review (I'm the sort of person who spends 1/2 hour on hold with a Fortune 100 company over a 'minor' aggravation to try to save the next 100 customers the hastle).

Super. This is a great company. Matt is professional, amiable and expert. He understands people and is out to build a great business, not make a quick buck. Matt responded promptly to every one of my calls. He organized things such that he could fit us in straightaway, and he even got a friend of his (Chris) to come and finish a tricky siding project (corners, arch windows, strange gradients, etc.) The crew turned up on time, worked efficiently until the job was done, and left everything clean. I give this company the highest recommendation. Matt is living proof that honor is not dead.

Rocco did some repairs to the exterior siding of our home about 6 months ago. He replaced several pieces of siding and did a terrific job. We are out of state home owners and were not able to inspect the work when it was completed. We recently arrived in town and just saw Rocco's work on our home. A job well done. We are very pleased. We would recommend this company to anybody.

.I.placed my gas BBQ too close to my vinyl siding on my deck resulting in a melted mess of siding. My son recommended Scalzi because he had a recent job done by them and he was very favorably impressed with the quality of their work. I wanted the complete section of the house around my patio door leading to my back deck replaced with "Cedar Impressions", a product which I Iater found out was invented by R J Scalzi, the family patriarch and the founder of the business. They gave me a quote which was not the lowest but in the ballpark. I asked for them to give me a recent job they had done so I could check it out. They did a Victorian across the street from the Arlington Police station on Mystic St and I went to look at it. I could not believe this house was done all in vinyl. It looked like a team of expert finish carpenters had done this job in wood, not vinyl. Gingerbread and all was done with no wood at all. It looked spectacular. I gave them the job and they showed up on time and finished on schedule and on budget. Matt and Rocco were courteous and professional. They did a beautiful job and left the place spotless. In every area of the building trades there are levels of expertise from apprentice to journeyman. A small percentage can be called innovative artists. I put this company in that category and give them my highest recommendation.

After interviewing 4 companies and seeing their work, we chose Scalzi & Sons. They were not the cheapest or the most expensive. And we feel we got more than our money's worth. Matt, Jay, Zippy and Rocco were wonderful. Our work was done in the winter so there were issues with snow and cold which meant the job took a little longer than normal. They were always professional but a little boisterous with each other. I would say they enjoy working together and kidding each other. Not an issue ever on the job! Whenever I questioned something they stopped and answered me. They told me why whatever it was was being done that way, listened when I made suggestions and even used a few! When I wasn't happy with something they corrected it. No excuses. They said that I was the customer and I needed to be happy. And I am. The team ended up short a man most days on the last half of the job and that slowed things down and put a burden on the guys who were here but the quality of the work was never affected. Matt and Jay went above and beyond in making things perfect. Zippy was here every day when the snow stopped so he could shovel and get things ready to roll for the next morning. We have had many, many compliments on the improved look of the house. These men stayed here, or came back, until they got it right. There was no running out because the clock struck 3. Matt always returned my calls. They came here in May when I needed a new "fancy" downspout like they had used. They bought it, installed it and never charged me. And it was nice to see them again! My husband and I are very pleased that we used Scalzi and Sons. We would not hesitate to recommend them - our son has already had his house done by them!

We could not be more satisfied with the finished product. The house looks simply beautiful. The products used were top quality and the workmanship exceptional. R.J. Scalzi and Sons are craftsman who bring years of diverse experience that sets them apart. The double snap window trim was created by Ritchie Scalzi and once showcased on 'This Old House'. My husband and I knew we were hiring highly skilled contractors who were worthy of this major capital improvement to our home. Each day they arrived on schedule, answered all of our questions, engaged both my husband and I in significant decisions, and were a pleasure to work with. They worked hard and at the end of the day swept the perimeter and maintained a safe environment. It isn't often a customer can say that they actually developed an excellent rapport and working relationship with a contractor.
