RARE Moving & Storage

The very same day I enquired about an estimate to move most of my household inst storage "ASAP", a representative came out and did a walk through and provided me the estimate.. The estimate was verified by email after only a couple of hours, and my date - only 4 days later - confirmed with a deposit by the end of the day. When it looked like the two of us might not be able to finish packing up 6 rooms in 4 days by ourselves and might need a little help at the end, I contacted Kamaul and he asked me to provide him with an update by the end of day the day before our move and the team would come ready. They were here exactly on time, with a large truck - bigger than they needed. They completed the work in just under the low end of the estimate, and did help us to pack up the odds and ends - no matter how done you think you are, there is always something behind one door or another that you missed. One of the team did damage an heirloom model ship, by mistake. What was awesome is that he came to me immediately, very apologetic, instead of trying to hide it or blame it on me - and in fact it was my fault. It was right next to a travel path on the stairwell and I looked at it that morning and made a mental note to move it as it was a dangerous area for it to be. But, in all the stress I forgot. My point is, most moving teams would try to hide it and/or e defensive. That was not at all the case here and was really nice. This company helped us out during a stressful time for a last minute move-to-storage call because of a fire sprinkler pipe break. The crew was fast and efficient and handled everything with great care. They clearly had tons of experience with even heavier and bigger pieces than we have. I am so glad we worked with them and am looking forward to working with them again. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The cost of service listed here is just the pack and move to storage. The storage facility over the months we will need it will cost more. The move back will be about the same as today's cost. Our house is approximately 2,100 square feet, 7 rooms, 2.5 baths. About 2/3rds of our furniture was destroyed and taken out by junk collector. The rest had to go into storage with about 90% of our household items. This is what Rare took care of.

Rare showed up early, immediately began their work, packed and loaded efficiently, and did not stop until everything was on the truck. We were unable to prepare three of our rooms before they arrived, but they worked well with us to separate items to be packed and moved versus items our family were keeping with us (in suitcases) or throwing away. In the middle of the chaos of a move, this can be very hard to do and potentially frustrating for the movers. Throughout the entire process their workers were extremely pleasant and maintained a great attitude. Rare's final price was slightly higher than their estimate, but not enough to be an issue for us. Mr. Reid, who runs the company, is very professional, personally involved and knows what he is doing. He and they are the best!

From my initial contact with the company, they were very responsive,kind and professional. On moving day, the team was attentive to our concerns, efficient, thoughtful and enjoyable to work with. Though moving is in general a terrible experience, Rare Movers made it more enjoyable than ever before.

I have used their services twice. I think they have a great client service, his owner will give you a personalize treatment, he is very professional and understanding. The crew were very helpful and respectful. I highly recommend this company.

Three gentlemen arrived and they were super attentive, very friendly and professional. Showed up on time (actually early!) and started working very efficiently as soon as they arrived. It was a pleasure dealing with them. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Top notch in every respect. This is my 2d move of rare and I love working with them. On time every careful and professional workers who work non-stop very fast and no breakage. Honest and pleasant workers 100%.

Move went great! They were professional, on time, flexible, and on target on the cost. Our neighbor highly recommended them, and they were great. They brought 6 guys and 2 trucks, and it they worked very efficiently disassembling and reassembling furniture, moving and packing the truck and placing everything exactly where we wanted it. Move went great and Rare made it happen.

Great - Jarvis, Harvey and Al were our movers and they were exceptional. They were on time for pickup in Plymouth and got each piece loaded within about an hour. Then they made the 7-7.5 hour drive out to Rochester and unloaded the pieces within about an hour as well - taking great care with the piano especially, which is a very important heirloom. They were friendly, professional, helpful and really did the job we were hoping for. I do not live in the Boston area but my dad and sister do, as do many friends. We would recommend RARE without hesitation.

PROS: Arrived on time, no promised pre-arrival call. Stuff was polite and courteous. Carefully wrapped and packed items to move. Struggled a bit with big items. CONS: Time - it took almost 4.5 h to move: 2 couches. coffee table. desk table. 2 arm chairs. 1 bedroom set: king size bed + dresser + 2 bookcases. 1 dinner table + 6 chairs. And most surprising -- you as a customer will pay for crew's time in transit. In my case it added 1.5h for truck to travel from warehouse to CoolidgeCorner and back. Plus over 20min between destinations where car takes 3min, and pedestrian 12min.

These guys are great- they know what they are doing, move fast, are respectful and very helpful. Jay was the lead that day and did a great job getting things on the truck and the other moves Zach and Zach and Erik moved very fast and helped get some really big items down some very tight stairs and corners. We had a pit stop at a storage unit and the guys moved fast and got a few things into the unit quickly - Zach actually helped rearrange the unit so more fit into it. I'd definitely use these guys again - we are hopefully moving again in 6 months, so we will! Of the moving companies in Boston, you'll not hear this company in the same breath as Gentle Giant, Marathon, and other big names, but they do a great job!

It was great. They are good people. We enjoyed working with them. They took care of everything. They were gentle and respectful.

We have had some bad experiences in the past with movers, but this time was great. Mike K, John P and Jay were on time (actually early) and were professionally and careful with all our stuff. Funny and Personable too. We had a in home estimate before our move and we ended up paying a few hundred dollars less then the estimate. Found great reviews on Angies list and I am so glad we used them. We will definitely use RARE again when we move, and recommend to all our friends.

Move went great. Service was outstanding. We have used Rare movers in the past and they came through this time too. Service was efficient, accurate and professional. They added an extra truck when they realized two would not be enough and kept to the original estimate. The movers were careful with our belongings and did an excellent job dealing wit all of our thoughts and concerns. Even before the move, service was very helpful in making recommendations about the move during the pre-move site visits. We remain very appreciative and satisfied with the services provided.

The crew arrived promptly in the morning. Kumaul was there himself along with a crew of 5. They worked hard all day till 7 pm. They were professional and friendly. I have a lot of glass and fragile furniture. Everything was delivered and even my glass end tables came with no problems. I requested Kamaul be here in California to oversee the unloading of the truck. He not only came himself but brought his right hand man.

We had them revise the original estimate and split out a separate move of some of the items locally as a separate move, which they did immediately. The new estimate was: 10/17/2015 3 men & 1 truck Rate:$145 for 4-6 hours $725.00 Materials $30.00 Fuel Charge $50.00 Load: 2000 - 4000 lbs. $3,000.00 Shared Fuel Charge $1,450.00 10/25/2015 2 men & 1 truck Deliver to Redwood City, California $0.00 Angie's List Discount -$100.00 Total: $5,155.00 I called two other movers to see if they could meet the price, and both told me this was a very good price, and they couldn't touch it. so we chose Rare Moving. The actual weight of our stuff turned out to be only 2,240 lbs. The minimum is 2,250 @ $1/lb. I said to him, "Rats, I should have shipped that second box of rocks! Really -- my grandfather's mineral collection" He laughed, and said he'd be glad to send the truck by in the morning to pick up extra boxes. We shipped rocks, and 2 other boxes of books that we'd left out to save. The final cost was only Shared fuel cost: $1,850 Shipment weight: $2,500 Total: $3,900. My daughter found out her street was being paved the scheduled arrival day, which the accommodated with no problem. They delivered everything perfectly. There was one extra set of table legs. Later they called and said that it was for the first delivery, and asked if my daughter would be willing to take it somewhere to be shipped, and they'd pay? Of course she was fine helping them out -- they sent her the shipping labels etc. all pre-paid so it was no hassle for her. We will definitely be using Rare Moving for our next move! They were awesome!

Initially Rare Movers booked us for 3 movers but I argued 2 would be sufficient, since we only decided to hire movers because of the big sofa, otherwise all of these items my husband and I have been able to move by ourselves (and I am a fairly small woman). They provided a time estimate that I thought was too long for the relatively small number of items being moved, but they assured me that if it took less time I would not be charged for the extra. The positives: They arrived within about 10-15 minutes of the scheduled time, and handled the items carefully when wrapping and loading to the truck. One mover in particular was very dedicated and energetic. We departed my home later than expected so there was bad traffic en route, but as I understand it I was charged transportation based on what it was calculated the time should be for the distance rather than time alone, which I appreciated. The negatives: The process took so much longer than I would have ever thought would be necessary - several hours at each end. Certainly I do not have the background of a professional mover, but I've overseen moving whole households 3x in the past ~6 years, and in this instance everything just seemed to go slower. I expected the unloading at least to be faster, but it was not - they would deposit something in the house, go back for the next item, and I was left standing in the house for prolonged periods of time wondering where they were. Also, the destination property was on a somewhat narrow street with some low-hanging wires, so the truck had trouble maneuvering, and this took a lot of time - I do not know how this was factored into the final cost. It was a big truck and there was a lot of extra space - if I have to move items from that property again I'll remember to specifically consider truck size, because before this experience I assumed the moving company would have some way to take that into account. The initial estimate was for $650 - I ended up paying around $900 even after the $100 AL discount. I feel this was excessive for such a small scale move.

The move went great. The workers were on time, introduced themselves professionally and requested a walk through of work.

Movers were great and very professional. Came up with solutions to get furniture up narrow stairs including pulling up furniture through a 2nd floor window.

Rare Movers assigned two men and one truck to move. They arrived on time, and were very pleasant, respectful individuals, and were easy to work with. I would recommend them again.

We prepared by getting all of our stuff staged in a double garage; The movers hit big traffic on the way while they were on the clock (it is apparently customary to start charging when they leave, not when they arrive at your house). What I estimated to be a 4 hour job ended up being closer to 6 due to time the crew spent in traffic. This ended up negating a lot of the value of the deal. The crew of 3 were strong and cordial and moved quickly. They did accidently drop/crack a large hutch upon setting it down in our dining room, but it was an easy fix so I did not make any claim. I would use again with the knowledge that you would want to schedule during the middle of the day rather than starting early to avoid rush hour etc.

They were hard working and punctual. They underestimated the number of trucks but did go back the next day. An issue I have though is that my bedroom furniture, which was previously faultless, now has a bunch of deep scratches and damage. They tried to cover it up and the insurance policy with them wouldn't really cover it unfortunately. Additionally I am missing four table legs.

This was the second time we used this moving company. This move was much larger than the first time, so we scheduled someone to give us an on-site estimate, rather than relying on the online forms. We also had 2-3 other companies come out for estimates as well. The estimate from Rare was the lowest. We were concerned that when moving day came, the job might wind up being more than the estimate because the other companies were so much higher. This did not happen ... in fact, our actual bill turned out to be a couple of hundred dollars LESS than the estimate (I believe because the work went faster than anticipated). For both of our moves, the guys from Rare Movers were punctual, courteous, friendly and helpful. For this move, we moved out on one day and had to store our furniture with them for a few days before we could move into the new place. Both moving days were extremely hot and uncomfortable, but we never heard complaints and their work was not affected by the weather. Also, I felt that they handled our things with care, taking the time to nicely wrap anything that wasn't already packed in boxes. I would definitely use Rare Movers again if the situation presented itself and I would definitely recommend them to others.

They were great. They were prompt and courteous and moved the furniture carefully and efficiently. They set up the bed in the new home, and moved some other items out for us. I also recommended them to my cousin who used them and was very pleased.

I called to get an estimate of moving my very overloaded apartment. They quickly responded with an estimate and were able to meet my short timetable. 3 gentlemen arrived on my appointed day with a large truck and lots of energy. Polite and professional they were able to get my 3 bedroom apartment on their truck and moved to my new home. They were able to do in one very intensive day what other movers have taken 2 days to accomplish. This company was impressive and delightful to work with and I would recommend them to anyone moving in the Boston area. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
