RARE Moving & Storage

It did not go at all well, but perhaps the true measure of the integrity of a company is how they react when things do not go well because of conditions beyond their control. I was on a very limited time schedule, flying in to Boston to help my daughter with the move. I had booked the movers in advance, they were to arrive at 11am and I called very early in the morning to assure that all was well. When I called, it was too early for anyone to be in the office, but the owner of the company picked up on his cell phone and assured me that everything was on schedule. When 11am rolled around, there were no movers. I called and was told that there was another move in progress before mine and that it was taking longer than expected. I had already been told that we had to have completed the move on the other end by 3pm, since that was the time the superintendent at the new apartment went home and at first, I was not worried, but after an hour rolled by, I was getting more concerned. There were a number of calls between me and the offfice (initiated by me), and at one point, I was told they would arrive in half an hour. Almost another hour went by. I then received a phone cal from the owner saying that they would not be coming at all because they had been involved in a traffic accident. (No one hurt, but the truck was not able to be used...) With a very limited time frame and a full day spend waiting in a boxed-up apartment for movers that were not going to show up at all, it was a pretty stressful situation. The owner, however, did everything he could to help rectify the situation -- he apologized profusely, he asked me to name the time I wanted them to be there the following day and they would be there and he assured me that there would be no charge at all for the move, due to the circumstances. As promised, the next day, the two movers were there at the appointed time and we were moved, without incident to the new location. Both of the movers were apologetic about the events of the prior day and were very pleasant and helpful throughout. It may have been a day later than expected, but kudos to the owner for doing everything he could to try to compensate for a very sticky situation. He truly went above and beyond!

Kamaul's team did a great job with our move. In preparing for the move Kamaul was very responsive to our e-mails and helped us trouble-shoot around concerns we had regarding protecting our new hardwood floors during the move. His team arrived on time and moved all of our large items (including a flatscreen TV, dresser, bureau, couch, bed, and filing cabinet) down five flights of stairs without a single ding or scratch. Due to some confusion surrounding the wording of the form used for the estimate the move ended up taking two hours longer than expected. We raised concerns about this to Kamaul on the day of the move, and in less than 24 hours he had issued us a partial refund, with plans to re-word the form to avoid confusion in the future. We were extremely impressed with his professionalism in this manner, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone planning a move in this area.

Rare Moving did a terrific job. The were scheduled to arrive between 7:30 and 8am and showed up at exactly 7:32 (happened to look at my watch). They began moving itmes immediately and didn't take a break until lunch time. They handled all of our things with great care, including wrapping items I never would have thought to wrap. They moved quickly but gently and asked me for my preference on how I would like certain items to be handled. Once we were in the new house they unloaded everything quickly and smoothly and left everything organized. At the end they set up a few items for me and moved some pieces from one room to another. I was 9 months pregnant at the time and truly appreciated their help and effort. They were true professionals who clearly care about the work they do. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional movers. I've already recommended them to a few friends and family members.

I joined Angie's List because I needed safe transport of my belongings across country and had heard many horror stories about moving companies. After doing a lot of research, including Angie's recommendations, I called Kamaul and made plans for him to do my move. He was calm and thoughtful, which is a true value during a stressed time. Just days before I expected to have him do the move I was broadsided by a major financial hit. I ended up having to throw caution to the wind and go with the least expensive cube u-pack moving company I could find. Kamaul did not change his tone of voice or change from being a thoughtful man when I called to let him know I could not use his services. A couple of days later I called to ask if he knew of reliable men I could hire to pack the cubes. He sent two over - they arrive 15 minutes early - and were HUGE fellows who moved all and packed them in half the time I expected. I wish I could have used Kamaul's services and definitely would in the future.

Great job. Punctual and professional. Team worked hard and efficiently. Great value when compared to other larger moving companies and no difference in job performance.

Kamaul and his crew were absolutely awesome. They are very efficient workers, but also seem to really enjoy their work. They did a great job, and I would highly recommend them.

Our amount spent was reduced by the "Big Deal Coupon" on Angie's list. But the full price would have been $750 and totally worth it. Crew arrived right on time, were very professional in introducing themselves and listening to what needed to be moved and what should stay. They quickly wrapped up the furniture in blankets and moved it out, emptied the place in 2 hours and unloaded in Medford just as efficiently. Our new house has small spiral stairs to reach second floor - so some furniture had to be lifted over the balcony and in.

This could have been a stressful move, but it turns out this company turned out to be rare indeed. They handled packing and moving with carefully, quickly, and politely. Arrived on time, finished as quickly as they could, dealt with a power outage (no radio!), maneuvered in and out of the driveway, all with smiles and professionalism. Would definitely call them again if needed.

Kamaul was awesome, awesome, awesome. From the start, I felt like I had all my questions answered clearly and he was very patient with me. Kamaul responded to emails and questions very quickly and thoroughly. A day after we spoke, he pointed me to an Angie's List special (live that day) that saved us $500 on the move! The crew was fabulous and even added an additional unplanned pick-up that was quite a distance away. Kamaul, being a self-proclaimed clotheshorse, offered to loan us garment boxes since I mentioned I would just move my clothes in (gasp!) trash bags... They were courteous, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, and most definitely strong! I would hire the Rare Moving guys again in an instant. There's not one thing I would fix.

Kamaul and his team were fantastic. They arrived on time and packed up all of our belongings with great care. Kamaul personally drove our belongings to the West Coast, which was a big job in and of itself - but he did this task through one of the biggest snow storms of Jan./Feb. He braved white-out conditions in the snow to get our items to us on time.

They were very late getting to my home because "the doctor they moved the day before me wasn't ready" so the move ended up costing me more than it should. It involved a long distance move and I had to pay for extra men and for the movers to sit in traffic because of their lack of punctuality. Very nice guys but i felt the service was iffy

I cannot say enough good things about Kamaul and his team! Moving ranks among my 3 least favorite things to do and they actually managed to make the experience tolerable--even fun at times. The fee they charged to pack my condo was extremely reasonable. I was impressed with the way Kamaul managed and oversaw the move. He paid attention to detail and made sure everyone was packing large furniture and fragile pieces appropriately--he also coordinated his entire team extremely well. The weather was awful and the temperature was in the single digits, but they were diligent, efficient and extremely professional. The move was a bit complicated and included 3 units and 2 cities, but they were not deterred and did a great job of labeling boxes. Even at the end of a very long and cold day, one of the guys asked if there was anything else I needed and carried boxes that were cluttering the downstairs up 3 flights of stairs to the attic so we'd have some living space while we got unpacked. I was also impressed with the way they managed a mishap. One of the small pieces to the futon was lost in the move. Kamaul bought, ordered and shipped a replacement part and it's now good as new. Accidents and mistakes can happen--the mark of a truly good company is the way these are addressed and I feel like Kamaul definitely went above and beyond in this regard. We hope to stay put as long as possible, but we'll definitely be calling Kamaul and the guys the next time we move and I'd recommend this company to all of my friends!

I contacted Rare Moving on Friday, February 11, for an estimate to move a treadmill. The owner, Kamaul Reid, called me back to ask for a few details and then asked when I would like to make the move, I said sooner rather than later. His answer, "we can put you in as job number 2 on Saturday, February 12th." I was very pleasantly surprised by his willingness to fit me in so soon for just 2 hours of work. I'd contacted another moving service before I saw the Angie's List Big Deal for Rare Moving (which is going on until March 31st!) and was essentially told my job wasn't worth the time and effort. Based on Kamaul's ability to schedule me in combined with a very good price, I booked the job and Kamaul emailed me the estimate later in the day. At the last minute, I asked if he could also move 4 bookcases (3 from the second floor, 1 from the third floor) of the first house to the garage on site for storage, he didn't bat an eyelash and said no problem. The estimate Kamaul gave me for moving the treadmill was based on 2 hours of moving services which is his minimum and came to $190. He did not add any time to the original estimate for moving the bookcases and his initial estimate and the final price matched. I would definitely contact Kamaul for future moves. He and Larry, his helper, provided great service that was also very timely. Overall, Rare Moving was a bargain - great service at a great price and both gentlemen were very pleasant to work with.

This company and these three men were fabulous. I had planned to use Gentle Giant, given all the positives I had heard about them. Then, Rare Movers offered a coupon on Angie's List that seemed almost too good to be true. I read all the reviews I could find and decided to take a chance with this new company. What a great decision! Kamaul, the primary owner, called the day before to confirm details. I had one more question and he answered immediately when I called back. They were on time. They worked tirelessly and were great from start to finish. They dealt with more snow than anyone should be faced with and never complained. They took furniture apart and put it back together to get it into the rooms I asked. They did everything I asked and were more careful than I would have been. (That's saying a lot.) Because of the coupon, we got the deal of the year. Kamaul said that he offered the coupon in order to get known to a bigger audience than they could do on their own. He's a smart man, and Gabe and Anthony added to our positive experience. Rare Movers deserves all the good PR that can be offered. They earned it with our move today and I will be a fan and customer for years to come.

They are punctual, professional and reliable. I spent $4500 on that work.

Pros: The movers were hard workers. They lifted a very heavy piece of furniture 2 1/2 stories over a deck railing. Cons: Although they appear to have wrapped the furniture well, there were dents/scratches in 5-6 pieces. Two of the movers were experienced, the third appeared not to be.

I had an excellent experience - when I made the appointment, I was the first person scheduled for the day. When they called to confirm however, my move was scheduled for the afternoon. When I inquired if I could be the first person on the list for the day they were very accommodating with my request. Kamaul (owner) and Jarvis showed up right on time, and from the outset I was impressed with their professionalism and their work ethic. They actually ran up my stairs after taking each load down to the truck. Both men were very athletic and very pleasant to talk to as well. They had my entire move done in about 4 hrs. This was by far the best moving experience that I have had, and I have been recommending them to everyone.

Prompt, professional and worth every penny!

These guys are so awesome. I initially hired them to move my stuff from a storage pod (that was going to be placed on the curb in front of my condo) into my home - which would only require two guys. However, two days before the move the storage pod company canceled the delivery. I was so distraught, but Rare Movers was there to help me. They were so flexible; with only two days notice I was able to change the entire appointment to a different time and date, and add a truck to move my stuff. They worked very efficiently, were careful with my stuff, were very courteous, and even arrived early to the appointment! I would totally recommend these guys to everyone!

The men from RARE Movers arrived punctually and had my stuff in their van more speedily than any movers I had previously used. They were likewise quick and efficient in unloading upon arrival at my new condo. Not one thing was broken or even scratched. I was impressed with their courtesy and good humor. Also, for what they did, the price was a bargain and truly worth it.

They were close to their original estimate and the move went pretty smoothly. There was some slight damage to my couch but the person who runs the company went out of his way to get that taken care of.

It was really good. I just wasn't thrilled with the timing of the truck. It took them a long time to get to me. The move itself was really good. They were very quiet and courteous.
