RARE Moving & Storage

In early January I contacted six different moving companies to estimate our move from Boston to Dallas. This was a move of a small two bedroom home and our large library. Kamaul the owner came to our home, and immediately put us at ease with his reassuring manner. The next day we received an estimate on the move (as promised) and found Rare to be neither the least expensive nor the most expensive. Kamaul assured us that he, "Would be with us for the whole move from beginning to end." That wasn't hyperbole. On moving day, I was told to expect someone to inventory the house at 8:30am, Gabe arrived at 8:15am and got right to work. I was told to expect the truck and the team at 9:30am, they arrived at 9:15am. The team was early and happy to be there. Their load team of Jarvis, James, Jose, and Kamaul the owner were professional, personable, and happy. I can't stress the happy part enough. The guys were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. They had great rapport with Kamaul and one another. I was told to expect five hours of load time, but the guys were done loading the truck shortly after four hours. They arrived early and left with plenty of time to clean the house. Due to our need for a longer travel time, Kamaul held the truck for four days. He and his team arrived in Dallas exactly when they promised. Kamaul was even driving the truck. The offload also took slightly less that estimated. Only one bookcase was slightly damaged, but it was one I wasn't sure would even make the move. Kamaul and I easily negotiated a fair replacement cost, and it was taken off the final bill. Everything else arrived in great shape! This move was a remarkably stressful one for my family and I, however, Rare made it painless. I can't recommend them more highly.

Larry and James arrived 15 minutes before the appointment time, ready to start! I showed them the large items in various rooms of my house which needed to be moved an apartment a mile away: refrigerator, bed & mattress, large flat screen TV & rolling table, washing machine, dryer, dresser, reclining chairs, file cabinets, snowblower, and numerous boxes. They went to work quickly with minimal supervision. These two guys looked like football linebackers and picked up heavy items as if they were made of foam rubber. They worked together as a team and cleared out the rooms quietly & quickly. In the time it would take for me to step out of their way, pack a box in another room, and return back to the first room, everything in the room I asked to be moved was moved out. They knew how to pack and move the flat screen TV. They had huge plastic bags to protect the mattresses. We filled an entire truck. Moving into the apartment went smoothly. All I had to do was to tell them where everything went: to the basement or a specific room in the upstairs apartment and it was done. Getting the refrigerator into the apartment looked like it would be a challenge, but the two of them made it look easy. The entire move was complete in 5 hours.

They were very good, efficient, on time, thorough, and helpful. I have no complaints.

We hired Rare based on their ratings here on Angie's list, and we were not disappointed! They showed up early, came in UNDER BUDGET, and were meticulous about every stage of the moving process. I can honestly say that there is nothing at all that they could have improved upon. This was the best move I've ever had.

I'm a former Army brat and semi-permanent nomad with many years of moving experience, and I highly recommend Rare movers. I was somewhat anxious about this particular move, since I was both six months pregnant and just coming off an overnight shift when we had to schedule it. The Rare moving team made it easy, though. They met my husband (a moving novice) at the "moving from" location and had everything packed onto the truck in no time, and without any damage to our condo (or the freshly painted walls in the hallway). I met them at our new home, and although there was already quite a bit of stuff already in the house, they were able to unload quickly and to put everything in its place -- they even helped us move a bedroom set that was already in the new home from one room to another. The team was extremely courteous, professional, and energetic. We did note two pieces of furniture with damaged backing after the move, though both were cheap storage pieces from Target. Nothing of substance was damaged, including our glasses and dishes (which I confess I didn't pack as well as I usually would). I would use them again and recommend them to friends in a heartbeat.

My sister's move from Bedford to Arlington (one condo to another) couldn't have gone any better..."Kamaul" and "Gabe" were excellent in every way. They arrived within the time limit they had estimated and wasted no time getting right to work....they carefully wrapped every piece of furniture before taking it down two flights of stairs to the truck. Once getting to the new condo, they realized that my sister's favorite and rather large armoire would not make it up the front or back stairs to the second floor. Very calmly and professionally, they said not to worry, they could hoist it up and over the back porch railing, through the back hall, then into the condo. It was done effortlessly and with a positive attitude - my sister was very happy to be able to keep her armoire. Rare Moving & Trucking provided a very pleasant experience from my first call to gather some information, right till the very end. Their prices are very reasonable - they provided Certificates of Insurance - their overall services were fantastic - would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a stress-free move!

This was probably the easiest move experience I have either personally had or heard of from friends. Kamaul Reid, the owner, called me up the morning after I requested a quote on line, collected some additional information, and then gave me a quote for 3 men, 1 truck, and 4-6 hours. One thing that I really appreciated was that I had a very large sleeper sofa that had to get around some tight angles, and asked his advice about whether to do a knock-down service or have his guys move it, and he (very correctly, I believe) suggested doing the knockdown. Within a few hours of accepting the proposal I had the time and date set up. On moving day, they crew showed up at exactly 8 a.m. and got to work. They were friendly and very efficient, loading up the truck in about two hours. We locked up and they met me at the new place pretty quickly, set up, and unloaded. During the entire move, there was no damage to either the things they were moving or the building (floors, walls, etc.) They checked with me about where to put everything and paid full attention to the box labels (which I did not do an amazing job labeling) -- everything ended up in the right place. It probably helped that we had a sunny, 60 degree January day, without any parking or traffic complications. I was very impressed, and would definitely use Rare again and recommend to friends.

They were the least expensive & called & emailed to confirm, came on time & were very professional.

Promptly responded to request for estimate and proposal. Staff was professional and hard working. Packed my home, stored items for a few weeks and delivered, set up in new home, and moved me to NC.

My experience with Rare was excellent! The owner (Kamaul) responded to my request for a quote right away and gave me a fair price. He did my move himself with a helper and it was really excellent -- I normally hate moving, but he made it so easy. He came on time, had a large truck and very efficiently loaded all the boxes I'd packed as well as my furniture which he disassembled and padded as needed. After having spent several days packing (not an easy experience), it was amazing to see how effortlessly Kamaul and his helper managed to get everything loaded. All of my boxes and furniture arrived undamaged in New Haven. On the other side there was a slight glitch with the elevator reservation, but Kamaul it gracefully and without complaint and got everything up. On top of it all, Kamaul I would recommend Rare moving without hesitation and plan to use them again for my next move -- they're really terrific.

They were great. They were very punctual, professional and were a little more than what we expected, but we ended up having more work done. It was our fault than theirs for the increase in cost as we had more stuff moved in. They were very efficient, nothing was broken and we really enjoyed having them move our things. I will use them again in the future.

They are wonderful people. Their prices are a little bit high, but they do a great job. I would recommend them to anyone.

We scheduled the move a few weeks in advance and were told to expect the movers between 8 and 9 a.m., and they did arrive promptly in that window. The three men (I apologize for forgetting their names) were very professional and really did a good job wrapping all the furniture and odd assorted pieces we had, including a large rocking chair. They also disassembled our futon with no problems, and re-assembled it on site. Our old apartment was a walk-up on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and they had no problems with the steep stairs. We were particularly impressed with their concern with how they left us in the new apartment. The new place was much smaller than the old one, so we had a lot of boxes just piled up in the middle of the living room. They made sure to stack them neatly and leave us with a relative sense of organization amidst the chaos. Overall it was very successful, and probably the least stressful day of all the days spent packing/unpacking etc. I would definitely use them again.

Rare Moving was totally fabulous - the team was on time, friendly, cheerful even while lifting this beast of a safe. The move went off without a hitch - there were a few snags on my end and they could not have been nicer. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Moving day proved to be a hot one. Luckily the team did not need to negotiate many stairs on either end of the job, though it was clear they had both the strength and will to do so if necessary. The team arrived promptly in the morning at the established time, and set to work immediately. They had a clear process for loading the truck, and did so efficiently and quickly. They carefully wrapped every piece of furniture and did a good job of taking things apart and protecting screws and such. They worked well together as a team, with lots of good humor and good energy. We were very glad that Kamaul had decided to use two trucks for the move. Both trucks were substantially full by the time we closed up the condo to make the trip to the new location. Unloading and stacking went off without a hitch. Team members were good about asking where to put things, and did a good job of reassembling those things that needed to be reassembled. By the end, it was clear that the guys wanted the day to be over (it WAS hot) but everyone stuck with it to the end, even keeping it together as Kamaul and his assistant wrestled a seriously balky ramp into submission.The final paperwork was clear and fair (though Kamaul did forget to deduct our Angie's list discount, an error his office quickly remedied when we called about it the following week.) Overall, we were blown away by the value we got for the money. We had done a very good job of preparing for the move, with well-packed and well-organized boxes, and a clear idea about how to stage the process, but the team did the work of moving it all, and not one thing was broken or damaged. In all his dealings, Kamaul was upbeat, fair, accessible and professional. We could have easily paid one and half to two times as much as we did to go with one of the premier moving companies, and we would not have received any better treatment or service. Kamaul and his crew really deliver on their promise of a first-rate move for a reasonable price. You just can't hire a better moving service.

I called several moving companies for estimates on a project that should have been just a couple of hours for two men and a truck. They gave me around the same number ($250-$300), so I went with this company because the they had the Angieslist coupon for $100 off. When I called back to set up a time for the move, the man on the phone asked me to submit all the information on their online form so he could have the addresses for pickup and delivery on record. When I did that, he emailed me back a written estimate that was almost exactly twice the estimate I had gotten over the phone and from the other moving companies ($400-$600). Everyone was very nice and very helpful, but I felt like the estimate went up after I mentioned the coupon...

Overall I was very happy. The crew of three movers was scheduled to arrive between noon and 2pm, and they showed up at 1:45pm (though didn't call ahead to let us know they were on their way, as the dispatcher said they would). As soon as they arrived, they got right to work. They seemed to listen carefully to what we said, and they took appropriate measures to make sure our furniture and boxes were handled carefully. When furniture needed to be dismantled, they did it quickly, and took care to keep track of small parts (e.g., screws and brackets). I was particularly impressed that they took special care with two antique floor lamps and a small antique dresses, which they partly dismantled and marked for special handling (even though I had not drawn their attention to any of these items). On the drive from the old apartment to the new house, they asked if it was OK for them to stop for a meal, and I said yes; they ended up not charging us for the time they spent on this break. When they arrived, they were just as careful and communicative as before, making sure to place items where we wanted them. I would definitely use them again.

It started a year earlier when my son was moving to Princeton, New Jersey. He was the one who found RARE movers. They had to come to my apartment to gather some of my son's possessions, and I was very impressed with them. Kamaul was there, and I told him that I would be moving in a year, and would like to use him. I showed him my large leather sleeper couch. I told him how it had been so much trouble to get it up the second floor and around the staircase. I was worried it would be a problem when I moved. He then reassured me that they could handle it, and not to worry. So I did call them, and only them, and I am so glad I did. During the move, I reminded him of that conversation. He had remembered and said that is why he took the job himself, to show he that he could do it well. So, he directed one of his men to take the legs off of the couch. The guy tried, and said he thought the legs would not come off. Kamaul said he would bet him lunch that they would... and they did...and he got his lunch. But, he used this as a teaching moment for his crew, to tell them that on this type of couch, the legs would always come off. They moved the couch so easily, it almost floated down the stairs. It was beautiful to watch. The paperwork was very professional. It was a bit more than the original estimate, but it was worth it. The company offers other services like storage, if needed. I truly very highly recommend this company.

I would recommend them highly. I received excellent service from the crew members at Rare Moving. They were polite and careful with our property. I would have given our experience with them an A rating across the board if they had not arrived three hours prior to their scheduled time. I had worked an overnight shift the previous night, and was really counting on that time for us to complete last minute preparations. They understood the situation, and after a call to the office the crew waited patiently for an hour in their truck for us to get enough stuff done for them to be able to start their work. The rest of the move went very smoothly.

Kamaul Reid and crew, were on time. Started work right away and packed everything wonderfully and delivered everything. Did not damage anything.

This was a 3rd time I used Rare. They did a great job as always careful, professional & on time.

The office is very responsive. Messages were returned quickly. The movers were prompt, professional and pleasant! (The didn't even get annoyed with me for giving them the wrong address! oops) They asked where we wanted everything and even set up her bed. I would absolutely recommend this company!!! If I ever move, I know I will use them.

This was a big job and they did a very good job. Not one thing that I can think of was damaged and we have lots of fragile items. All the guys were real gentlemen and very pleasant to be around. They really work well together and support eachother. Guys had the opportunity to go home and rest and they chose to stay and help out the team. They worked from 8:00 in the morning until midnight and started again early the next morning. My only complaint, and its small in the grand scheme of things, was that there were a few small items left behind which I had to go and pick up, but overall I thought they were great and would absolutely use them again.

We moved from a tight space in downtown Boston to Martha's Vineyard and Sarasota Fla. Rare Movers handled the complete move from packing to delivery our goods to Martha's Vineyard and Sarasota. This was a very complex and difficult move that they handled wonderfully. There were several large pieces that had to be moved through small doors and windows. I can't say enough good things about their professionalism and attitude. We recommend them with no reservations.
