RARE Moving & Storage

I contacted Rare Moving on a Saturday evening expecting to leave a message. Kamal answered the phone and told me he would have an estimate in an hour! I had recently received an estimate from Neighbors moving that seemed unrealistic, about $3800 to pack, disassemble load, move from Mesquite, NV to Boston, MA then unload, unpack & reassemble. They told me I could just watch & sip my iced tea! Kamal's bid was around $8000 for the same thing. I sent him the bid from neighbors and asked him how they could do that? He explained what they left out. In the meantime I was checking reviews and found tons of complaints on Neighbors & nothing but good about Rare Moving. Unfortunately I couldn't afford that price so I asked Kamal for a suggestion on a "u-Pack" company ( like Pods). I followed his advice and had a good experience. This whole experience was so incredibly stressful & terrifying trying to know what to do & who to trust with everything I own! The "u-pack" Moving trucks usually require overnight parking for loading & unloading.The police dept said NO. I had planned to unload over several days but now didn't know what to do! So I called Kamal and he helped me work through it and I decided to hire him to unload it quickly. The u-pack moving company made an exception to their rules and did a same day pick- up on the truck. The most remarkable thing to me was Kamal's desire to help even when he wasn't benefitting. He helped me after he knew I couldn't afford to hire him. His crew was fast, efficient and did a great job & it was well worth the money to have him unload the truck! You can feel safe with Rare Moving. I highly recommend them!

Went great. Jarvis and Stevenson were on time, efficient, pleasant and professional. Nothing was broken, they put everything where it needed to be. Very pleasant.

Wow, I was very impressed with their punctuality, professionalism, and most of all their efficiency. I was informed they would be onsite between 8am-9am and they arrived approx 8:15am. After introductions of each of the 4 men and a walk through of the apartment and storage area, they went right to work. Kamaul was the lead for my move and in charge of the inventory (and also will be the person moving my belongings to the next location). I was concerned about my leather furniture but they wrapped it well along with protecting my mattresses and sleigh bed. Also, I had a large flat screen tv that they dismantled off the wall for me and again appeared to wrap it in a protective manner. I was assured that the moving blankets used to wrap my furniture would stay in tact during the storage and transport to next location, even if traveling to the west coast. The quote came in $280.00 less than the actual total move cost of $1580.00 (movers/truck+fuel charge). As Kamaul explained to me that moving on a Sunday is a higher rate than during the week (I was quoted for a Friday move), I failed to obtain this detail during the quoting phase and rack it up as a lesson learned. There were additional charges incurred for moving supplies and packing materials (approx $100.00) but all occurred with my consent or request. Overall, I feel the cost of using Rare Moving & Trucking was reasonable compared to my other estimates. Kamaul's team completed the move within 5.5 hrs. Kamaul provided my the hand written inventory of my items and the next day provided me via e-mail my estimated weight and cost to transport my belongings to the west coast. Currently I'm using their storage facility and I will update this review once the transport is complete.

We were very happy with the service. Scheduling the move was easy and they accommodated our uncertain schedule. The team was very professional and courteous. They arrived 10 minutes early and didn't waste anytime during the move. We highly recommend them.

Great experience. Only wrinkle was a shortage of garment boxes; half of the clothes hanging in closets got dumped into boxes. But all arrived safely, nothing broken or missing. The work was completed very quickly and carefully.

They arrived on time. Were curtious, discussed what we wanted done and developed work plan. Move was accomplished in less than anticipated time. I would definitely use them again.

To start with I have to tell you that the ratings and comments on Angies List were so high that I was suspect about this company. but I called them and they came out to estimate the job. The owner was not available so another person came out and looked around. I got a quote, one page not detailed, from the owner in two days for $3100. I also got two other quotes from national franchise companies. One for $13000 and another for $14000! I was stunned and call Rare back to check on the quote. The owner reviewed the quote and said that there was a error and revised it to $6100. I gave them the job but was still suspect! Well everything went perfectly. They showed up on time, 5 guys, packed ( note we packed about 60% ourselves) and loaded the trucks in under two days. Stored it for a month and unloaded in one day. Everything in perfect condition (except for some of the lights on our 10 foot tall christmas tree). The men were hard workers, did not waste any time, always polite, very professional. Now, remember I was suspect of the "estimate". After the truck was packed and loaded to go, Henry, the Supervisor reviewed the bill to include materials, travel time and labor costs and asks for $ 5100. I asked him what he thought the time would be to unload into storage, reload back into a truck and unload in Andover? He gave me the estimated hours and I figured it would cost an additional $2500! For a total of $7600! I thought this was the old 'Low ball express" trick and called the owner. He was very nice and simple said he quoted me $6100 and that all I would owe when they delivered everything in a month would be $1000. And thats exaclty what happened. Everything was delivered on time and with no damage! I have become a believer in Rare Moving and I now I'm writing a glowing report for Rare Moving. But its true!!! I would use them again anytime.

They were right on time and move went smoother than I anticipated. They were very careful and didn't scratch any floors or walls in my narrow victorian house. I will totally hire them again,

The guys showed up on time, loaded and unloaded at the arrival location without any issues. The only problem was that the driver damaged neighbor's fence while maneuvering the truck, but they came in the following day and fixed all damage.

This is a quality operation from top to bottom. I can't recommend them highly enough. Very clear in answering questions throughout and their performance was first rate. Use them with confidence.

I decided to get estimates from four movers. Kamaul Reid from Rare Movers was the first to come by and check what I had to move. He was very personable and was in and out of my apartment within 15 minutes. I thought, "I like this guy." I was a little surprised by his very subjective approach. That is, he didn't inventory everything I had in my apartment for the purpose of an estimate. He "eye-balled" it and said it looked very straight forward. I found him very trustworthy and his confidence took the stress of this activity off my 'worry plate'. And to his credit, he estimated my wardrobe box requirements to the box! I had asked for two estimates from all competitors. One for 'soup-to-nuts' where I wouldn't have to do anything, the movers would handle everything (the government moved me once this way and you can get spoiled this way). The second estimate would be for me to pack everything but the kitchen/breakables and the movers would do the rest. Kamaul's estimate was the lowest. but knowing that an estimate is usually not fully binding when the process is the product of # of movers and time, I asked him if he would be willing to make the higher of his two estimates a "not-to-exceed" if I promised to do all I could on my end to streamline their time. He agreed. And sure enough, the final cost of $1425 was about mid-way btwn the two estimates. Based on a family matter, Kamaul couldn't be part of the moving process (he's a hands on company owner) but he assured me he would put his best three-man team on the job. Led by Henry, this three-man crew did GREAT!!! If you want to see some fast wrapping and packing of kitchen items, ask for Jose. This guy was amazing. Not a single item he packed broke or got damaged in the move. Lamont was extremely helpful to me in marking pictures to simplify my unpacking process. But truthfully, they were wrapping and packing pictures too fast for me to keep up. So to others, I would recommend having pen, paper, and markers handy if you know you're going to leave some of the things these professionals are going to pack in their boxes. I had asked Rare Movers for an estimate based on their very high ratings in Angie's list. Let's face it, this is a costly and stressful activity and you want some assurances along the way. I was happy that my initial intuition about Kamaul and his company turned out to be spot on. These guys are GREAT!!! I would highly recommend this company to others. Based on my experience, I'm not surprised why they were one of the top four movers in my area. Thank you Rare Movers and thank you Kamaul - you are indeed a man of your word.

Four people showed up to pack our house the day before Thanksgiving. They took great care to protect our belongings and worked very efficiently. The day after Thanksgiving, the crew came back to load the truck and after a quick walkthrough, they started loading at lightning speed. They were actually running the boxes to the truck. Unfortunately, not all of our belongings would fit in the truck they brought, but we quickly worked out a solution with Kamaul, and the team took the extra time to reload many of our belongings. I was able to stay in touch with the driver, who showed up promptly on the delivery date with another mover and they quickly had our new house filled and the furniture re-assembled. They took extra time to help us arrange the furniture the way we wanted it. Kamaul and his team are very professional and great to work with. Their price wasn't the least expensive quote I had, but the responsiveness and level of service offered led me to choose them over lower estimates. My instincts were right on, because they did a great job! Highly recommend Rare Movers.

Rare Movers were great! I have moved six times in the last ten years and this past was my best experience to date. For years I stuck with a competing moving company, mainly because I was used to them. I am so happy that this time I tried someone new and went with Rare! Due to multiple delays in closing, I had to reschedule my move twice. Velvet, in the office was always friendly and accommodating every time I called to reschedule. The day of the move Andre and crew showed up not only on time, but a few minutes early! All three were very polite, courteous and professional. They got right down to business and had the truck packed up in no time. When they were finished, I stayed behind to clean up a little, figuring they would be at the new location for quite a while. I was shocked that they finished unloading so fast that I barely got to the new house in time to see them off. I've never seen movers work so quickly! I would highly recommend Rare Movers!

Very good service! I could not be more pleased and would highly recommend Rare Moving and Trucking. My only negative experience was cost to me was higher than quote, but they promptly responded to my email and credited back more than I asked for. I contacted 4 companies for a quote. One did a phone only quote of $700 for the move that eventually cost $2700, I did not even consider them. Of the 3 others, Rare was the middle quote at $2140. Kamaul showed up for an on-site quote on time wearing a uniform branded with company logo and made of athletic material. This gave me an early impression, which remained true, that these people are professional and prepared to do the job. He walked around the house with me asking questions and taking notes on a clipboard regarding all the items to be moved. He, and the moving crew, asked about items that I wanted to move myself (i.e. cleaning supplies for use after items moved out). He also informed me they can not transport items like propane tanks for the grill; I was able to transport that myself. Between the quote and the move day their communication by phone and email was prompt and courteous. They waited patiently as I considered other quotes. Their detailed quote was emailed to me the next day. One of the other 2 contenders lost out because his quote came in 3 days after promised and 1 hour after I decided to go with Rare. The quote was detailed and easy to follow, this greatly assisted me when I later had a question about price. They broke down number of men and trucks, hourly rate for that team, materials, fuel, and overnight charge. They listed this separately for each of the two days as the time each day was different. Once I confirmed my move date with a deposit they remained in contact in a very prompt fashion answering calls and emails at night and on weekends which I was not expecting. My real estate sale and purchase was complicated and in flux up to the day before closing. Rare was flexible, even fluid, to accommodate me even though I called them the day before to suspend the move an unknown time, then again later the same evening to put it back on original schedule. I later discovered the team leader was scheduled for a day off because I called in to cancel but changed his plans and came in anyway to get the move done. Also because I changed the plan, they put the truck for my job on a different job, but got another two (smaller) in anyway. After my question to them on pricing they still charged me for one truck. On the move out day the three man team led by Larry showed up on time. They started with a brief walk through to confirm the items that I wanted to hold back (i.e. cleaning supplies). We had about 3/4 of our small items already boxed up. The quote for this day was 4 man team 5-7 hours, 3 men took 8.5 hours to pack the remaining small items and all furniture including large boxes for surround sound equipment, a generator, snow blower and lawn mower. All furniture was wrapped in moving blankets and taped. Glass doors (i.e. china hutch) were covered in cardboard and taped. The team worked diligently from 9am to 5:30 pm, even skipping a break near the end to get the job done. At about 3:30 to 4 they arranged for the second truck to show up as the first was getting full. As previously stated my last minute cancel and re-booking meant a smaller truck than original quote showed up which was almost enough. On the move in date 4 men showed up and unpacked all our belongings in 4 hours. As I was directing items to rooms I wanted them in, I found it difficult to identify some large items wrapped in blankets because they made heavy items look rather light by the care and grace with which they handled my belongings. I had to leave for work before the move was complete but they treated my wife with respect in my absence. Of the many items only one was damaged; a handle of and old cedar chest came straight out with nails, this is easy for me to repair myself and I'm not to surprised by the age of the chest. One item was lost, a piece of a bed frame. Larry called on Sunday to let me know they found it and offered to bring it to me Wednesday and set it up so the box spring and mattress weren't on the floor. When it came time to sign the bill of lading and pay the balance, the total came to $3360.53 (of which $100 was pre-paid as deposit), again the quote was $2140. Though I was at work at this time, they assured my wife that sometimes this happens and we could call to see about a price adjustment. Because of their detailed quote I was able to piece together time for transit and moving, the number of men and trucks and the rate that should apply. As I counted travel time and number of trucks differently my calculation came to just over $2800. I sent a polite email expressing my concern with a spreadsheet of my calculation on Sunday night and received an email back early monday morning while they were en-route to Florida for a different job. They agreed to a job cost of $2700, more generous than what I asked for and still less than 25% above quote after my last minute changes threw off the schedule. The entire experience was exceptional! Thank you Rare for a job well done.

They were great. They came on time, were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. I used an Angie's List coupon, paid $250 for $500 worth of moviing from Rare Movers. They honored the coupon without a problem. I would use them again.

They were late due to traffic and I had to call the office for an update but once they arrived they were effective, clean and courteous

We moved on the morning of Sandy. They showed up on time and got the job done. These guys were great courteous and efficient.

OK - I have moved a couple of times in my lifetime by professional movers (NM to Cali - Cali to NM, NM to MA). Usually with a local move we would do it ourselves, but our backs aren't as strong as they used to be. So we decided to hire movers. Rare movers was by far the most efficient move I have experienced. We moved on a Sunday and had to pay a slightly higher rate, but it was worth it. They were efficient, professional and courteous! They arrived promptly at 8am and were done before the Pats game at 1pm. I thought the move would take the whole day based on how much we had and previous movers, but not so. Just to give you an idea just to unload our truck from NM it took the previous movers from 8am until 4pm, not these guys - load, drive and unload and were done by the Pats game before 1!! They did such a great job. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them.

It was very positive. They showed up on time. The only thing I had trouble with is they only sent one man with the truck he had to find help in CHicago and had a hard time doing so.

Probably the best move experience my wife and I have ever had. We have moved 5+ times in the past few years, always doing it ourselves. Rare Movers was one of the lowest quotes we received and also had a Angie's List coupon which lowered the estimate cost. They took care of the parking permit required in the city, were prompt in all responses and on move in day, and were very professional throughout the entire move. At the end of the day nothing was broken and the move took less time than expected. I would definitely use them again though I hopefully don't plan on moving anytime soon.

All went well except they left two small items at the curb in Pennsylvania. They got confused because a local maintenance man carried them out for them and the items were a tool box and another item. Now, I am having those things shipped.

All three moves went smoothly. We are thrilled with their work.
