RARE Moving & Storage

I found out about Rare Movers because of an Angie's List Coupon earlier this year, and I'm glad I did. They were extremely friendly over email and phone when I reached out to set everything up. A few days before the moving date, they called me to make sure that I was still comfortable with them moving during the snow storm. To be clear, they were not asking to move the date - they said the snow won't stop them, they just wanted to be sure I would be ok with driving to meet them at the storage unit, and if not that they could slot me in the day before or after if I would prefer. I ended up keeping things as scheduled, but the fact that they called me to check on something like that speaks volumes for the quality of customer service they provide. The move itself was done quickly and efficiently with a crew of 3 guys. They were all very good and obviously take pride in what they do. Having gone through a number of moves during my life, this was easily the most efficient (and enjoyable) that I've ever done. I would definitely recommend Rare Movers to everyone and if I ever have to move again, I will definitely be contacting them again.

The movers showed up at my apartment a half hour earlier than expected, which was a nice surprise. Even though it was snowing, they showed up ready to go. They also handled the parking permits for the North End, and the No Parking signs were put up 72 hours in advance of the move. Despite the fact that there was a car parked where their van was supposed to be, and there were giant snowbanks on the street, they were willing and able to roll with the punches. After being somewhat dismayed that my building didn't have an elevator, and realizing that maybe they should have brought a fourth man, Larry, Jose and Royce began the monumental task of dismantling my fourth floor walk-up apartment. They worked harder than I've ever seen a crew work, and they didn't quit. They emptied our entire apartment in just a couple of hours, and then it was off to our new house. When they were unloading the truck, they asked me where I wanted every piece of furniture, and every box. They even arranged the furniture and the bookshelves. They were also incredibly gracious about my complete lack of planning about where I wanted each piece of furniture, and my complete lack of labeling any of the boxes. Larry, Jose and Royce did not once get frustrated when I responded "I'm not sure" about every piece of furniture, and "I have no idea what's in it!" about each box! They were even able to move the boxspring down my very tight apartment stairwell, and then up the stairwell in my house that has a very low ceiling. Larry expressed some concern that it might not fit, and he offered suggestions on what to do. My suggestion was to get a new bed, but unfortunately for me, it went up the stairs without a problem. They worked solidly for hours, and only took one gatorade break toward then end. They were polite, professional, and had a good sense of humor about some of the minor snafus we encountered throughout the day. I was presented with a very clear and easy to understand bill, and I was able to pay by credit card, which is always a plus. I would absolutely, without a doubt recommend them to anyone moving in the Boston Area.

The two men who did the move were very nice, very accomodating. They were not careful enough, though, and they broke off a small piece of wood when they tried to pull apart two of the components without checking to see that they were connected by a cable. Once they saw the problem, though, they took the time to figure out how to correctly separate the pieces. They carefully wrapped all the pieces, and were very gentle when they moved them onto the truck. They were also willing to move a couple of pieces of furniture and remove two doors so that they could get the largest piece out of the house. They replaced everything when they were done. When they brought the instrument into the new room, they were very careful to do everything correctly. Overall, I would recommend them because of their friendliness and willingness to stay until the job was done.

As a family who has moved three times in the past four years, we cannot praise Rare highly enough. We hadn't lived in MA in almost ten years and weren't familiar with local moving companies, so decided to begin our search with the large national companies. Quotes began at $3500 and ran up from there, from the companies who actually returned our call. Frustrated with our progress, we joined Angie's List and noticed the positive reviews on Rare, so we gave them a call. The owner offered to come out the next day (the only company which offered an in-person assessment prior to the quote) and his quote came in at a fraction of the others. Most importantly, my wife liked him and trusted him. Forward two weeks to our move scheduled for 2/14, and Boston was hit with the blizzard. We needed to vacate the apartment rental, and hoped we could pull off the move despite the four foot snow banks in Beacon Hill and emergency parking restrictions. Due to the City of Boston's snow emergency, permits were first available for 2/15 so Rare moved us to that day. When asked about the snow piles, the owner replied, "That's why we have shovels". The team arrived on time and couldn't have been more professional, despite there being an SUV illegally parked in the reserved move zone. Rare parked their truck a few streets over, walked back with all supplies and began packing while the parking situation was addressed. The guys were friendly and efficient. They cracked us up telling us about the strenuous Insanity workouts the owner has had the guys doing in the warehouse to stay in shape. Once they were able to squeeze their truck into the reserved spot, the men shoveled out a snowbank to clear a path to the truck and keep our stuff dry. The move went smoothly, there were no delays and everything was packed with care. Our true test of the quality of a mover comes during the unpack, and everything was organized, clearly labeled and stuffed with packing paper to prevent breakage. In our fairly transient lives, this is the first move I've had where not so much as a Christmas ornament was cracked -- they were flawless. They were also good sports as my wife had them move our couch a few times to find her ideal spot. They were incredibly prepared, and even had ice melting pellets for the driveway once we arrived at the house. We've experienced many movers and these guys were by far the best. We're hoping this is our last move for the next 30 years, but if not, we will definitely use them again.

Jamaul accommodated my last-minute date-change with no fuss, the moving team arrived early on the day, helped pack up the things I hadn't finished, and packed with great care. They were courteous, very careful with my stuff, and left NOTHING behind -- the first time in 5 moves that I've had a company not leave things for me to collect afterwards. I had more stuff than anticipated, so they ordered an extra truck which came quickly. Once at my new place, they unloaded fast, were happy to re-locate furniture when I changed my mind about where it should go, and went the extra mile to find ways to get things up the narrow stairs. These guys are amazing athletes! The guys obviously liked each other and seemed to enjoy their work. So, bottom line, very professional, great to work with, flexible in accommodating last-minute changes, and good value for money. What more could you ask for! A++++

The crew was fantastic, courteous and professional. For guys working by the hour, they hustled all day. One issue was encountered, and it likely wouldn't have happened if I planned better. We kept our old house as a rental but wanted to swap our newer washer and dryer with the older ones in the new house. Come to find out that the new house wasn't set up for our kind of dryer so I had to have the crew move the appliances BACK to the old house. During one of these trips the washer's control board (the dial and start button) got dinged and the machine didn't work. I called the owner who immediately assured me that he would make it right even if the minimum insurance I had didn't cover it all. The day I called to inform the owner that I had an invoice in hand he wrote the check reimbursing me. These guys live up to their word and their reputation on Angie's List. I highly recommend them!

These folks did a great job coordinating and executing a move between cities. They were helpful, friendly, efficient and careful. I'd have no problem using them again.

It went very well with few problems. They were addressed immediately. Rare movers may have been somewhat high but other than a few small things, there were no problems. Compared to stories I have read on line this move was a breeze.

Rare movers arrived promptly and worked quickly. I had packed everything in boxes and moved the kitchen items myself so they needed only to move furniture and boxes. I was completely moved within 4 hours - the move was relatively local - about a 30 minute drive between the two homes.

I don't have details, other than my friend got moved on the day she was supposed to, and she said everything went "fine, and thank you very much." No complaints. Business as usual. :-) Also, I have had phone contact with this company's office on two occasions, and they were very professional. I spend a lot of time on the phone with people in my job, and I can tell when the person on the other end knows their business or not. They seemed to, so I bought the Angie's coupon being offered for their services.

This was our first move in 23 years. The crews from Rare Movers did an excellent job every step of the way. Not one item was broken. Artwork was well and safely packed and protected. We would use them again.

The crew was prompt, polite, well prepared and professional.

They kept us informed 100% of the time. Where they were, when pick-up was, and when they would arrive. They also had a 3 man crew, which was great (other places said they would only send 2).

They were very accommodating. I changed the date for both the visit to get an estimate and actual moving with no problem. The movers arrived a few minutes early. They were professional and personable, going to work immediately padding the furniture and organizing things for the two different delivery locations. There was no damage to any of the items. The movers listened to instructions and followed them precisely. The bill came in about $80 under estimate even before the Angie's list discount was applied. It was a pleasurable experience.

Overall everything went smoothly. The movers showed up on time on the day agreed. They had a crew of 4 to move our 2 bedroom apartment from downtown Boston to the suburbs. They managed to get everything loaded in a few hours, and even helped us pack a few remaining items. Very polite and helpful. They wouldn't let us carry a box without offering to help. The unload at our new home was very quick. Items were placed where we wanted. Nothing broken or damaged. Overall a great experience. I would use them again.

It went well, I very pleased.

My husband and I just bought a house. We decided that since it was our last move. We would hire movers. They showed up a little later than expected, but between the hours that they said that they would. One of the guys came to the apartment to move us with his breakfast in his hand and ate it through the move. The other one took personal call during the move. They were a little slow to mve at some points. I was not too worried as we were moving from a third floor apartment and knew the stairs were a killer. Once we got to the house, I knew that it would not take as long because it's a one floor house. One guy got out and started setting up the bed. While the other one slowly emptied the truck. It took so long that I started unloading the truck myself. At one point the guy that was unloading the truck disappeared and I was unloading the truck by myself. The job ended up being $150 over the estimate even with me working at loading and loading the truck!

I had an okay experience with Rare Moving & Trucking. They showed up on time. They moved everything without a problem. I do remember there being some issues but the pricing and how that worked, I think it was a little confusing. I was surprised, they cost more than I thought it would. We had some coupon and I don't think they were very clear about how they calculate their hours and the total cost. When it was all said and done, I was under the impression that we would be covered by the discounted coupon and we actually had to pay more.

We could not be happier with the job Rare Moving did for us. I called them on Wed. morning and received an estimate within 2 hours. They were able to schedule the move for Fri. morning. Larry and Rolando showed up right on time, did an outstanding job of wrapping the furniture, and loaded up the truck in less than 1 1/2 hrs. The move went smoothly and the final bill was exactly what was estimated, and they honored an Angies list coupon for $100. Very happy and will certainly recommend Rare to others.

They were very good. They did a great job, were efficient, organized, and charged a great price. I would use them again.

I bought an Angie’s List coupon for $249 that was worth $500 of service but I paid $800 because they did fine on time but they said they could not get the refrigerator inside the house and ended up spending up more time on that, than the rest of the move. Otherwise, they were good. It was a fine service and I would use them again. There was just that one problem with the refrigerator. There was another damage but it wasn’t anything important. Such things happen in a move; I think they did a good job.

As well as I could have hoped.

Very well. They were on time and the work was completed in under 15 minutes.

The guys showed up right on time and did an excellent job. None of the furniture was damaged in the move and they did it very efficiently. There were two stops and it was raining heavily, but that didn't interfere with their performance. I would use them again.
