RARE Moving & Storage

Rare was very good at taking down the needed information as we needed to go from the condo to storage to a temp location, and then do that in reverse on the next move. Items were generally moved with great care, with a couple minor mishaps (broken glass within an art frame, some minor bumps to walls from extra large items). By and large they did a good job for a very reasonable price, especially with Angie's help!

The three fellows were terrific. Great attitudes, very careful and really strong! They wrapped the wood furniture. Even after being stuck in traffic, they were gung-ho and tried very hard to make an armoir fit in a room that was not meant to be. They assembled some knock-down furniture and took out the trash/boxes. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

We couldn't have asked for a better move. The crew leader was incredibly professional and competent. We absolutely trusted him to move all of our belongings with attention to detail and he made sure his crew did as well. They moved quickly and efficiently and we didn't have a single broken item and no scratched furniture. It was a difficult move and they did it flawlessly from start to finish.

RARE Moving was great! The company was very responsive and answered emails and phone calls promptly. The whole process went very smoothly. They were running early that day and called before our time window to say that they could come anytime. Since the piano pickup was at a relative's house, we needed some time to get there and they politely waited and met us there at the time we gave them instead of just showing up early (which my relatives appreciated I'm sure). The guys were professional, careful in wrapping and moving the piano, and very efficient. They also honored my coupon from Angie's list without any hassle or question. Would definitely use again! They were fabulous. They showed up on time, they were ultra professional. They worked hard and got things moving fast. They were able to problem love how o get awkward furniture into our new house. I would definitely recommend them.

From the first contact with Pamela in the office right on through the finished move we were treated with such outstanding customer service. Pamela explained everything to me, answered all my questions and sent confirmation e-mails. I received a confirmation phone call the day before as well. Every person I spoke with in the office made me smile. They really connect with the customer. Richard and Andre the movers showed up right on time. They were professional, experienced and quickly set to work. Packing the truck went super smooth. The truck itself was clean and in top notch condition. When they got to my home to unpack I couldn't have been more pleased. Richard and Andre were downright awesome! They turned a difficult situation into a smooth, enjoyable experience. They truly take pride in their job and are proud to be working for such an amazing employer. The name Rare Moving Company is perfect..this quality of service is indeed rare! Rare Moving has a great reputation in the Massachusetts area, and on Angie's List. I suspect it is well deserved. During the estimate, and for our move, the staff was punctual, professional, and courteous to a fault. I am certain that their reputation is deserved for local and in-state moves. However, my recommendation is to consider carefully before engaging them in a complicated, interstate move. They moved us to Chicago, and bent over backwards to accommodate our very tight timing. That was much appreciated. However, the actual packing and move was chaotic on both ends. I think they were overwhelmed. They gave us what we felt was a professional and very good estimate. However, when the move was completed the final bill was more than twice the estimate. We had to engage a professional arbitrator to bring the price more in line with the estimate. However, that being the case, Rare acknowledged there was a mishap in the estimate, and everything was resolved quickly and professionally. I believe they deserve the very high praise they usually receive. But again, be cautious if your move is big, complicated, or going out of state.

It was the best moving experience that my wife and I have ever had. Bar none.

Fast, hard workers on sweltering day. Courteous. Underestimated size of truck I'd need, couldn't quite fit all my stuff. Damaged one piece of furtniture (bed foot-board), but I didn't notice it till a week later. Pleasant office staff who picked up the phone when I called (not a cell phone in the mover's pocket. I never had to wait for a call-back).

1.) We just had a rather expensive stone floor installed in living room and dinning room and they were very respectful of this. 2.) They were very efficient. They moved a lot of furniture in short time. 3.) I forgot about a 50" TV in the basement that needed to be moved. They had already left and kindly came right back and did it. 4.) Their suggestions on where to put furniture were very helpful.

Let me start by saying the overall experience was very good, as evidenced by their "A" grade. Kamaul was very nice and responsive when I contacted him. I will say the women I talked with in the office were a bit frustrating to deal with as they did not provide concrete answers to some questions we had prior to the move. I actually ended up having my wife call because I was getting a bit frustrated and she had a similar experience. We had never used a moving company before so we weren't sure about certain things and were just looking for some guidance on how things would work. The move itself went very smoothly. Henry, Lamont & Jesse were the movers and they worked non-stop and got the everything moved. We had nothing break, so that was very nice! By the end of the day one of the movers was no longer quite as friendly or helpful and I was pretty sure he had broken some things by dropping boxes marked "fragile" very roughly....but fortunately my wife had wrapped everything very well. It was disappointing that the final cost ended up being $250 more than the estimate, which cancelled out the $500 coupon I had purchased for $250. But again, the overall experience was good, the move was all done in a timely manner and nothing broke......I suppose at the end of the day that is about all one could ask for.

Nothing rare about movers. They showed up over an hour late. Nice guys though that did the move. They were in and out. However not the attention to detail you would expect with an A rating. Multiple times I heard loud crashing of furniture on our new hardwood floors. They were setting up our metal bed frame when all of a sudden we all heard a loud crash. It was the metal frame that fell over when the guys were putting it together. Then the leaning bookshelf fell over. Nothing like having your new wood floors tested on the first day.

Crew worked very hard and always with a smile.

They did a very good job. They charged travel time both ways. They were extremely slow. They packed a lot of items for me. The estimate they gave me was around $600 but ended up being more expensive. But they did give me a $100 discount.

I used Rare Moving to move me from an apartment to a home that I bought. They were very professional and handled all of my belongings with care. Nothing was broken or damaged and the men were hard working. They quoted me 3 men and 6-8 hours and it took 8 1/2 hours, so just a bit longer than they quoted. I was happy with the service.

It was the coldest day of the year and it was a big move, but the guys were great. Something was broken in the move and the owner was wonderful about replacing it.

The team was great and showed up exactly when they said they would. They worked quickly and safely packed up our belongings in to the two trucks. When it started to get late in the day, the team leader called in for extra help to wrap up the job before it got too late. At 8:30 at night we had 8 movers running up the stairs to get the last boxes in the attic.

If there was an A++++ rating, I would give it to Rare. Here are the details...Family relo from Boston to DC. Rare had to pack and move all of our contents of our 5 bd home, store it for 6 months and then move it down to our new home in DC. SUPER big undertaking. Kamaul (owner) was the most courteous, kind and HONESTguy. Can't say enough about his team either, from Velvet's execution of with logistics in the office to all his men. We were taken care of every step of the way. The men were trustworthy, fast, and really just nice guys. RARE moving and STORAGE fulfilled our expections and more. Additionally, in terms of price, I received quotes from the top 5 Angies list companies (we have had some "wicked" bad experience with movers in the past, and those moves were much less in terms scale). Rare was significantly lower in cost, approx 10-15%. And BTW we are extremely picky people and usually only write reviews for poor service! Rare made one of the top 5 most stressful experience in life much more tolereable! Thank you, Kamaul and team!

This is the second time I used them in the past year as I had the misfortune to move twice in 8 months. Once again they were great. Took on every challenge with courtesy and professionalism. I definitely recommend them.

I don't think that we've ever been so impressed by a company here in the Boston area. We hired RARE to move our two-bedroom apartment in Melrose to a townhouse in Concord. Our original plan was to have them only move our furniture (it was all we could really afford, even with the Angie's coupon) but then rent a Uhaul and move our own boxes. Thanks to a happy circumstance, Kamaul agreed to move all of our stuff for the same price. We were convinced that we had a lot of stuff, so he brought a huge crew and two trucks. We asked them to come at 8am and he assured us that he and his crew were going to "rock and roll." We were dubious (we've had bad movers before) but were willing to keep an open mind. He delivered, and then some. First, Kamaul brought a crew of 7 men. They introduced themselves, shook my hand, and got right to it. There was an elevator in our building, but they weren't interested in using it because it would just slow them down. They were up the stairs, down the stairs, wrapping up stuff, moving this and that. There was no stopping, there was no dwaddling, they were on a mission and They. were. awesome. So on the other side, in Concord, it was the same thing: They introduced themselves (to my wife, who was waiting for them), did a quick tour of the house to figure out the where and hows of getting our stuff into the house and then off they went. All the while, it was "yes, sir" or "yes, ma'am" and a smile and efficient work. The men worked together well as a team, they had a system that clearly worked, they were gentle with our belongings, they cared about our floors and our neighbor's yards, they. were. awesome. We will never, EVER, move our own stuff again. We used an Angie's List coupon for our move, and I realize that we're going to have to pay full price next time and I don't care. Kamaul and Rare are worth every single penny. I wish that we'd known about them years ago. We're from the Maryland/DC area and we've missed that sort of "Southern" style friendly service of our old home, and this really reminded us of it. Here we are, two days later, and we still can't stop talking about what a phenomenal job these men did. Most importantly, I cannot emphasize this enough: Kamaul and his crew fully embodied their motto: "Efficient workers who care." They were all of those things and more. We cannot recommend them enough and we cannot wait to use them again in the near future.

The movers showed up punctually and all three of them are very polite and efficient. No talking and just work. We were very impressed that they finished moving all the stuff within 6h. Our townhouse has 3 stories and was not particularly easy without an elevator. They were extremely helpful in moving items to wherever we wanted. I forgot to ask for the discount for Angie's list member and called in the office next day. The office people were also very polite and reimbursed the $100 to my credit card right away. I was very impressed by this company. They made our moving less stressful.

We hired Rare based on its excellent rating on Angie's List and the quote it provided, which was significantly lower than competitors. The experience was so-so. They showed up on time, but they were not as careful with our belongings as we expected. We also countered a few unpleasant surprises: -They got lost and tried to charge us for the time: Our crew took a 90-minute detour getting lost on the way from Cambridge to West Newton. Turns out the Garmin they use for directions needs the specific Newton village (in our case, Auburndale) before it will recognize an address. No other mapping tool we've encountered -- nor UPS, the Post Office, FedEx, friends and family, etc. -- has had this problem. When it came time to generate a bill, the driver included that time in our bill. We had to get the manager on the phone (at our request) to have it taken off. It was awkward and not a great way to end the day. -They are unbelievably slow: We expected our move to take 6 hours, tops. It took (including the 90 minute detour getting lost). It took less time for us to move from a third-floor apartment in the South End to our place in Cambridge (with Roadrunner, who I highly recommend) than it took this crew to move us from one first-floor apartment to another. Everything took forever. No one moved quickly. It was painful. -They charge for tape: Rare uses tape to wrap up everything. Unlike every other mover we've ever worked with, they charge for the tape. It wasn't a huge amount of money (about $35 total), but it was weird. -They don't carry first-aid kits: A couple of the movers cut themselves a few times. That didn't bother us -- it happens -- but what we found shocking was that they had no way to bandage themselves up. We had to dig up a first aid kit we'd already packed so that they could put band-aids on. We wouldn't use them again.

It worked out pretty well. They were really professional and they did a good job. They were friendly, professional, on time. They were very careful with everything. There were little bit of minor scratches on couple of things, but they were able to take care of it and they did some kind of furniture repair the next day, so they covered any little damage that was done and it was kind of a minor. The only negative I would say is that it took a lot longer than I expected basically all day and therefore it cost a lot more than I was expecting so I felt like the cost was like the only negative. I would use them again.

Excellent experience. Three very professional men and a truck. Whole process took approximately 14 hours (11 hours moving plus 3 hours for their return trip after unloading, which is a standard practice as was explained upfront). Everything went smoothly including the piano (6'3" living room grand--not a baby!). The men were very accommodating, polite, happy to shuffle things around at the unloading site when we realized we had asked them to put some things in the wrong place. Couldn't ask for a better crew or a better experience. I recommend them without reservation.
