RARE Moving & Storage

The move started in the morning as it was supposed to. The owner had previously taken a tour of the house in order to provide a quote. My daughter was only three years old at the time so I requested that her furniture and crib be packed last so that her room could be the first one to be put in place in the new house. This was not done. They packed her room last and it was not unpacked at the new house until 10 pm. I had not taken the next day off from work because I was assured the move would be completed in one day. they left my house at 4 in the morning. I went out to get them dinner at 10 pm because they had refused to eat lunch or anything else. while I was gone, the new neighbors had called the police because of the racket. (They had small children and jobs too). the quote was for 2,500 for the whole job. The final bill was around 4,800. They did anexcellent job packing and only two items were broken (a coffee maker and a tray). If it weren't for the overage in price, Iwould use them again in a heart beat. I had used them once before, and had used the same crew as a part of a different company when I first moved to the area. they are true professionals.

The move went extremely smooth. It all started with my first contact through email requesting a quote. I received an extremely quick response. Next I had questions and call to talk with someone and ended up talking with the owner Kamaul. He was extremely helpful and I ended up booking the move for a Sunday over the phone. They had the best prices of the many movers I talked with and I really liked how friendly everyone was. I ended up using their coupon for 4 hrs for two movers. I also had them purchase the required parking permit for Boston. Great deal on price. Kamaul followed up with me 2 days before the move to make sure we were all set and again the morning of the move. He called to inform me the truck was on the way and would arrive around 9 AM. The truck arrived right on schedule and to two movers (Jay and John) were fantastic. They loaded up the truck in about 30 min and were off to Boston. I have to admit having used many movers over the years I was impressed with the attention to detail from them. We had already boxed and wrapped most thing but they put extra wrapping on some items. We also had a few items which needed special handling and they were great with the items. Once the arrived in Boston they unloaded the truck with the same attention to detail and care of the items. They moved the items to the rooms we wanted with no issue. Overall a extremely great experience. Also the movers had the best sense of humor and were a lot of fun to work with and easy to work with. I would highly reccomend them to anyone and most definitely use them again if the occasion should arrive. easy to work

I definitely recommend Rare for your move! Jarvis, Nate, and Al showed up on time and ready to go. They were very professional, organized, quick, and efficient. We did a walk through when they arrived so they could see what needed to be moved. Our furniture, mattresses, etc. were wrapped to make sure they did not get damaged. When we got to our new place, everything was unloaded into the "correct" room. Awesome!

Rare movers are a rare breed of movers. They were the only moving company to come home to give us an estimate. We spoke with over 15 other movers on the phone. The estimate was in our budget as they combined our move with another family. They were courteous and helpful on the phone. The two gentlemen who came home were super nice (Jay and John) and very fast (it helped that we packed a bunch of boxes ourselves) and they were in and out in less than 3 hours. John even shoveled some snow to make the pathway to the truck shorter! Then they gave us an estimated time for delivery in SF and came on time. It helped that Jay was the one to drive the truck all the way to SF. This was helpful because he knew that some of our furniture was dear to us and also helped assemble our bed and other stuff quickly. Highly, highly recommend them.

We expected it to be a straightforward move, with just a few pieces of furniture and some boxes. When the movers arrived, Alan and Jarvis, they were both extremely friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make things simple. We ended up moving more things because we had planned to do a lot of the cleanup ourselves, but figured if we had everything packed, why not throw it on the truck? The one big reason we hired them was a pull-out sofa in the basement which weighed a ton and was bulky. We didn't think we would be able to move it with just friends and family, and didn't want to risk breaking the sofa, the walls or one of us! The boxes and other furniture went in the new place right on schedule, despite having just about doubled the number of boxes and having found more furniture than planned. They were extremely efficient and very very helpful. Then came the sofa. They tried everything they could think of to get it up the stairs, and couldn't get it to fit. Then they looked at the front and back decks to see if they could hoist it, but didn't feel comfortable that the railings could hold that much weight. Finally, one of the movers put the entire sofa on his back (this thing legitimately weighs between 500-600lbs) and he bear-crawled it up three flights of stairs while the other man guided it. They got it upstairs, when I am 100% positive lesser movers would have given up and left it out front. Bottom line, Alan and Jarvis at RARE get the job done. It ended up costing more than double the original estimate, we gave them a $200 tip, and still didn't feel like we gave them enough. They worked harder than anyone I've ever seen, and I cannot say enough positive things about them.

Great communication, professional and friendly. In a industry of a lot of bad companies this one is a great one and highly recommend it. Don't worry about using Rare for your move, top notch.

I had been told to expect the movers between 8am and 9am. Jarvis, Nate, and Jaya arrived at 8:30am on the date of the move. They all introduced themselves, asked for a walkthrough to see what was being moved, and then immediately got to work. They wrapped each piece of wood furniture in thick quilted cloth, used thick plastic wrap for the mattress, put together wardrobe boxes for ease of moving hanging closet items, and carried boxes out of the house with amazing speed. I was asked to do a final walkthrough prior to the ramp removed and doors closed on the moving van. There were no outstanding issues so they confirmed the new address and said they would meet me there soon. The unloading was completed as efficiently as the loading. Furniture that had been dismantled by the movers in Cambridge was put back together quickly in the new space. A sofa needed to be moved in via a window when it became obvious that it was not going to make it around a corner on the stairs. Jarvis and Jaya quickly assessed the situation and made a plan (while Nate continued putting furniture back together). When the window had been removed, Nate immediately left what he was doing to help get the sofa into the house and then went back to putting furniture together. Travis, Jaya, and Nate each treated my possessions with care and they asked questions when in doubt about anything. They worked extremely well together and carried themselves with positive, friendly attitudes. Moving is stressful but this group made the move as easy as it could have possibly been. I highly recommend Rare Moving & Trucking.

These guys were AMAZING. I had most, but not all of my stuff packed, because I'd run out of boxes and time. I had the apartment for two more weeks, so figured I'd just move what I didn't pack myself. Instead, the Rare Moving guys show up with boxes, supplies, and super helpful attitudes. They got everything packed up in record time -- including everything still in my closets. They wrapped my furniture with care. In the past, I've used 3 other moving companies who were all okay -- but in the future, I'll never use anyone but Rare. Thumbs up!!!

Rare was courteous and careful with the belongings. Minimal disruption to their operation, 5 men worked non stop for 12 hours.

After I purchased the deal I realized my husband already coordinated a moving service. So, I called Angie's List to get a refund.

Kamaul was extremely helpful and listened to my concerns. He worked it out to be able to move me when my move dates were already filled. When I explained about the problems I had in a previous move, he made sure those concerns were addressed and made sure those mistakes were not repeated. He was hands on and worked with the guys to make sure my move was the best. Due to my excess packing, as it turned out, not all my belongings fit on the truck. We were able to arrange for the remaining items to be picked up the next morning and were delivered just a few days after the initial delivery. One very important piece of furniture was scratched, and he made sure it was properly repaired. He brought to my attention that one leg on my ottoman was broken and would make sure that was replaced, One of the movers knocked over a lamp and immediately told me the globe was broken, It was inexpensive and I appreciated he made sure I knew of the damage. These things happen in a long distance move with over 200 items being moved. I felt they were as concerned about the condition of my items as I was. This was so different to my previous move when the movers didn't seem to care about my belongings. Almost every box that was marked "DO NOT CRUSH" was seriously crushed. My box that held special garments was so crushed, the garments were hanging out of the box. Appliances had hugs scratches and pieces to furniture were lost. Important antique items had gouges scratched out of them. Kamaul and RARE were a breath of fresh air and were patient and understanding when I was over-concerned about items and would remind them about specific items. Kamaul kept assuring me he was going to take care of me. Every box was delivered as II had packed it, and every box marked "DO NOT CRUSH" came in pristine condition. The biggest problem was my NordicTrack that was more difficult to dismantle than any other he had worked with. Kamal spent the time to work on it to get it moved. When it was delivered, the guys made sure it was returned to proper working order. I would recommend them to anyone for short or long distance moves.

It turned out pretty well and they were conscientious, respectful and fantastic with my parents. As the move took a lot longer than anticipated, the costs were a lot more than the Deal.

Movers were on time,professional and courteous. They wrapped everything and the move went smoothly.

Scheduling our move day and getting a quote was easy and quick with Rare Movers. We even had to move up our move by a day last minute to try to avoid a snow storm and the company was happy to accommodate. Unfortunately, we didn't completely avoid the snow storm and it was snowing the entire time the team was completing our move. Jay, Jaya, and Larry were AMAZING despite the weather. They worked hard the whole time, were extremely professional, and were very careful with all of our stuff. Nothing was damaged or even nicked in the moving process. The team had to move a little slower over the snow and ice but still finished in the 4-6 hour window of our quote. The price was very fair for the work that was done and the quality was superb. We were extremely happy with the move process and would recommend RARE to anyone.

The guys were extremely professional, hustled to get the job done the way I wanted and followed my instructions to a T. I have moved several times and would recommend Rare Movers and use them again. The care and professionalism these guys showed is rare so now I get the name of the company, it i a fit.

The crew showed up right on time and quickly introduced themselves to me. After a quick walk through to determine what items were going to long term storage and what items to load in what sequence they went right to work. The crew was highly organized and worked quickly. Everything went flawlessly and not one items was damaged or even scratched. This was pretty amazing considering that we have many large pieces that had to come down stairs that have a right angle. Kamaul himself helped bring down a large box spring and kept his hand between the wall and the frame so that the wall would not get damaged. During the removal of one very large piece hoisted out a window a shutter was cracked. Kamual immediately told me and reassured me that they would purchase a new shutter and have his carpenter come by to replace the old one. We were closing on the house and had a short turn around to have the house ready and Kamaul had his carpenter come the next day! During the move I incorrectly told them that several small items were going to storage. Several days later we began rearranging our furniture in a new and smaller living area and we realized the mistake. I called Rare Moving with the thought that this was my fault and I had agreed to their access charges at the storage facility. Not only didn't they charge me, but they even delivered the items the next morning. I highly recommend Rare Moving for any job. It was refreshing to see a company where the owner's attitude toward taking care of other's property and professionalism filters down through the whole organization!

Extremely pleased with this crew! move out was very quick, we had everything all backed, and move in to a 3rd floor aprt took 3 hours. Everyone was very friendly and worked very time efficiently would definitely recommend and use again

Kamaul and his assistant showed up right on time. They were very patient given that we were not completely packed and helped us get the remaining things get packed. They got the truck packed very quickly and efficiently. We were buying and selling homes on the same day so that complicated things a bit, but Kamaul was very accommodating as they had no problem waiting for me to get the keys to the new house in the buying phase. Once we got to the new house, they moved us right in and put things exactly where we wanted them. The only hiccup in the service came when they broke partially broke a stair carrying a very heavy piece of furniture upstairs. I think they may have avoided that if they had taken the drawers out of it making it lighter. That said, Kamaul sent someone out to fix it the next week so it is definitely forgivable and I appreciate his professionalism in how he handled it. I believe the move took longer than they expected it would (probably due to us not being completely packed), but Kamaul stayed faithful to his estimate. Rare movers is a great local moving company and I would definitely use them again. thank you!!!

They did a fabulous job. I have used them twice previously and I cannot say enough good things about them. Polite, punctual, courteous, fast, friendly and reasonable cost.

Moved us from our apartment, stored our belongings for 6 weeks, then delivered to our new house. They were excellent, prompt and very professional.

Move went extremely smoothly and rapidly. 3 hours into move, it became clear that one truck was not enough. Movers called home office. Another truck was available and came right out. Job was completed in one run with 2 trucks.

These guys were great. They called me back promptly and gave me a great quote. I also like that they called to confirm a few days ahead of the move as well. They arrived on time and were more than helpful. I felt like they really cared about my concerns as well as my furniture. They were polite, friendly and in general, great to work with - I'd highly recommend them

I am not happy with the additional cost of of fuel and material which is not mentioned in the deal and the starting of the 'clock' for the hourly charges from their ware house. So it dramatically increased the cost of moving from $350 to $660, a whopping 88% cost escalation!

I thought Angie's list as a good and trusted system until my experience with the Rare moving company. First, I must blame myself to hire the Rare moving company but Angie's list made me feel very stupid by deceiving the big deal coupon. They must indicate there will be additional travel hours charged in the coupon. I purchased $799 for a truck and 5 movers for 4 hours. I have experienced many moving (11 times over 20 years) yet I never had movers who charged their travel time (Com'on! charging 2 hours for these 5 movers just driving to my home and going back to their warehouse, that's $500 in addition to fuel charge and tapes)....... Movers are not machines. Thus they need to slow down and need a short break while moving. I purchased lunch for them and offered them to get break as well. They took additional lunch break for an hour before they get to the other house, which they didn't charge......I tipped $50 per person a totla of $250 for 5 crews (I typically tipped movers about an hour charge for my last 11 movings. I didn't want to give tips this time but I changed my mind because they were not business folks but simply employed hard labor workers). If you are moving within 10 min in their warehouse and hire only 2 crews, then you might consider to hire them only when you can't get any other companies available on your moving day.
