James J Carleton Electric

This is the second time I've used James Carleton Electric and both times the service has been excellent. The electricians have shown up promptly checked out the situation to see what they might need, and then completed the job with a minimum of fuss and bother. I would recommend them to anyone.

4 guys worked hard for approximately 9 hours, but couldn't 100% get everything finished. James had to come back for an additional 2 hours with one helper to close everything out. I was pleased with this, as another electrician said he needed 2-3 days.

I will do this for my next report. I waited too long for this report. I can say I am very happy with him & am planning on using him for other properties.

Working with Carleton Electric was a positive experience from the first visit to discuss the project through to the completion and cleanup. James was very focused on giving us exactly what we wanted, responding promptly and positively to requests via email and in person, and importantly, doing exactly what he said they'd do exactly when he said they'd do it. As we had a deadline, James brought a crew of four to make sure he finished all of the work in one day for us. The quality of the work was excellent, with great attention to its appearance. They found a way to snake the wires through the ceiling without cutting any holes inside the condo units, which didn't seem possible in this case. They were very flexible and accommodated our particular requests, and were a real pleasure to work with. We will definitely ask them to do work on our condo again, and we'll recommend them to my friends. Thanks again, James!

We have an old home. Many of our rooms have a lack of outlets, and James Carleton and crew took care of that for us. We first had him out to do an inspection on another matter and were so happy with their customer service we asked for an estimate on getting more outlets installed. We had an estimate within a day. We decided to make a few changes to our original plans, and had modified estimate the following day. Things were great, scheduling a timeframe to complete the job was a piece of cake. They showed up on time, we friendly and hard working. The job was completed as expected, and we couldn't be happier with the results. I'd highly recommend them to anyone needing outlets put in their home. I'll be calling them with any future electrical needs.

Paul and Tom arrived promptly. They were courteous and professional throughout and cleaned up the work area nicely afterward.

Jim and his partner did an excellent job in fixing the electrical problem in one of my tenant's apartments. He came two hours after I called, and finished the job within one hour. The price is good as quoted with a 10% discount as promised. Definately will use the service again in the future!

Thsi was my second time using James Carleton Electric. James responded immediately to my initial call and agreed to meet me at the house two days later. He was on time and notified me ahead of time when that he would be arriving in a half hour. He performed the work required and exceeded our expectations with his work.

Jim's colleague Tom was able to widen the opening in the ceiling and install the new box without creating a too-big hole; and then finish installing the complete fixture in about an hour. The work was done neatly and very professionally. Also, Tom was able to look inside the box in the basement and reassure me that everything looked OK with the current set-up. That by itself was worth a lot to me! I would certainly use these guys again for additional minor electrical work but also for anything major if required. Great work at a reasonable price.

I called James to inspect/update the hard-wired smoke alarm system in the house I recently sold. This was the day before the Boston Fire Department was coming over to inspect the system for code compliance. It turned out to be a very complicated job. Some of the alarms were not interconnected properly, some were the wrong type (ionization vs. photoelectric), and some were in the wrong location. Plus, we were missing the required hard-wired carbon monoxide detectors. James had to replace all the alarms, install CO detetectors, and run new wiring from the third floor to the basement to get everything interconnected. Amazingly, he and his partner managed to do it all without damaging the walls and ceilings we freshly painted for the new owner. They didn't leave a mark anywhere! The job took quite a while (about 6 hours) because he couldn't cut into the walls/ceilings, but he worked non-stop (I was home all day) to make sure everything was ready for the BFD inspection. I can wholeheartedly recommend James to anyone who needs to have electrical work done. In fact, I'm planning to hire him again to do some work on my new house.

Great experience. Scheduling was tricky due to volume of work around the storm, but Jim was able to work me in. Once here, he and Paul worked quickly to fix things. I have peace of mind as well as working lights! I won't hesitate to call Carleton Electric again should I need any electrical work in the future.

Awesome experience. Did great work and even cleaned up after themselves. They worked around me and my wife's busy schedules and texted an update when the work was done. Honestly, I plan on having some more work performed in the future by James Carleton Electric so while I would rather keep this to myself, I fully recommend this company.

James came out to our condo in Brookline and installed a new chandelier in our dining room and new fixtures in each of our two bed rooms. James had great reviews on Angie's List, answered my call right away, and was available on short notice. He arrived on-time, was polite and efficient, and cleaned up after himself. We would not hesitate to use James again for future electrical needs.

James and his team did a great deal of work on our house, which was built in 1892. They upgraded our service, rewired rooms, installed lighting in our kitchen, and installed our kitchen stove. All of this work was done over a period of a couple of months and through the entire project, James and Tom were responsive and flexible. His pricing seems competitive and fair as well. One of the aspects we appreciated the most was that James answers his phone and there was always good communication. But above all else, we now have an electrician we trust and we will continue to use and recommend James and his crew in the future.

James Carleton Electric is an exceptional company. Their level of professionalism, responsiveness, and quality workmanship is why we're willing to pay a little more for their services versus that of other companies. James and his crew worked for approximately 5-6 days on the various projects, and they left the work site clean and looking good. Also -- and we loved this -- James would send an update email every day recapping the work that had been accomplished and how things were progressing. James is also very tech savvy, and he is therefore very easy to reach by email, text, and phone. We highly recommend him.

I called and left a message and received a phone call back that night. When he came to do the estimate he showed up on time. He email the estimate and told me that he would be able to do the job 07/05/11 he thought that he may be able to job on the 07/03/11 but he did not want to promise that date because he had a job to finish and wanted to make sure he had time to finish it. I received a text on 7/02/11 saying that he had finished the job and wanted to know if he could come on the 3rd. I wasn't able to be there on the 3rd so we kept to date of the 5th. On the morning of the 5th he showed up on time! As he was setting up his crew arrived. When they ran into a problem running the wires up to the 2nd floor (I was warned this could be a problem during the consultation) they consulted me right away and had a solution within a minute. It was extremely hot that day but did not seem to slow them down. They did sweep up when the job was done but I still followed them with a broom and a mop. When the job was done they put my A/C in the window. They were also very careful when they had to drill holes in my walls. I LOVE THIS GUY!! HE DESERVES AN A+++++. He returns phone calls, gives an estimate when he says he's going to and shows up on time. Last year I had some one else put 3 plugs in on the 1st floor. This job was 3 plugs that had to be run to the second floor and ceiling light replaced in a bedroom. More work and he charged 125.00 LESS than the guy I had hired last year. I was so happy I sent out for pizza and I gave him a tip. I am planning to have central A/C put in next year and I have already asked him if he would do the job.

After reading all the great reviews I decided to give them a call to get an estimate. I set up a time for the next day and was told they would give me a call an hour beforehand to let me know if they would be on time or running late since they were working on another job. I planned my day off around the appointment and finally an hour after the time for the scheduled appointment came and went I had to call them to find out if they were coming. The man on the phone had a bit of an attitude and after I asked if they had planned on coming they said they still could but not for another hour to 45 minutes. I decided not to have them come over for the estimate at all and will go with someone else from the list.

I would highly recommend Jim. I reached out to him regarding an estimate for electrical wiring in the front and back of my house. He and his associate arrived at the house the same day at the scheduled time. He reviewed the work to be done and then provided an estimate. I thought the price was very reasonable for the work being performed. Because he had the time he was actually able to complete the work the same day. He was professional, courteous, and let me know what he was doing each step of the way. I will definitely be using him again!

They did a great job, and they are very good. James Carleton is the owner. The guy who came out was very nice. He was very professional. I appreciate that they worked as a good team. I have compared their price with other providers. Their price is very reasonable and relatively less. I am very happy with them. I will recommend them to anybody. The quality was great. I needed some extra work to be done, and they did everything. They cleaned up the mess. They covered up the furniture as much as they could before starting the work.

I called James J. Carleton Electric because of the reviews here on Angie's List and also because of a recommendation from a friend. James responded promptly to my call and came out with Eric to give me an estimate. I received the estimate the next day and called to hire him. He came two weeks later with Eric and another worker. James stayed a short while and left. The other two guys worked steadily for five hours to complete the job, some of which was a little bothersome. When they finished all the work looked great and is working great. I thought they were a very professional and good working company. I will definitely hire them again when I need and electrician. I would also recommend them to anyone.

He was really great. It was a fairly large job. Overall, it was excellent. I would definitely recommend them to others. They are polite and professional. They are very good at what they do and reasonably priced as well. I do enjoy their services and I love dealing with the electrician. It’s nice to have somebody in your house that is respectful and they know what they are talking about especially when it comes to electricity. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

I placed a call to Carlton Electric after reading positive reviews and left a message. James responded quickly and we scheduled an appointment for the same week. James was courteous and professional. He laid out a tarp on the floor to minimize the mess and thoroughly cleaned up afterward. During the job, James seemed comfortable answering any questions and telling me about the state of the wiring in my home. He also took time to discuss other lighting options in my house. The light I purchased didn't hang at the hight I was hoping for, so James made some custom adjustments to the piece and it looked great. At the end of the job, James told me that took less time than he expected and took $20 off of the estimate. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and James will be the first person I call for future work.

I chose Carleton Electric from Angie's list based on two main criteria. First, this company was very well reviewed (with a handful of exceptions mostly dealing with availability on the phone). Also, they are located in Boston proper, which was important to me. My condo is in the North End so I often have problems with visitors, deliveries and vendors because it can be a real challenge to find parking in the area. By chosing a company based in the city I was hoping to deal with someone who knew that it is hard to find parking and would not complain about it. I emailed Carleton and other companies with a description of the job and asked for an estimate. Carleton provided the lowest estimate and I followed up with him by email to schedule a time for him to come and do the job. We were able to work out the details of the appointment over a couple of emails. I nevertheless wanted to speak with him over the phone. This was the least pleasant part of the experience. It took us two days playing phone tag to eventually be able to talk. I have to say, though, part of the problem was me since it is often hard to get a hold of me by phone. When we got to talk, though, James Carleton was very coreous and professional. He explained in detail what would be involved and answered all my questions in a very professional manner. We confirmed the appointment over the phone and he gave me a 30 minute time window for his arrival the following morning. He arrived on time and got to work immediately with his partners. They covered the surfaces that could get dirty or damaged during their work, finished in one hour less than they had estimated and cleaed up very thoroughly after themselves. The job was done impecably and exactly as I had requested. The best thing, since the job turned out to be more simple than he had anticipated he charged me about $100 less than he had estimated!!! I was so satisfied I would have been happy to pay him more. Bonus brownie point: I never heard a single complaint about parking or how hard it is to do jobs inside the city. If I ever need any electrical job in the future I know exactly who I will be calling.

Experience with working James J. Carleton Electric was a fantastic experience. We are extremely pleased with the work that was done. We had laundry list of electrical work. James the owner contacted me and we set up an appointment to meet. He showed up on time and had an assistant along with him. We walked through our home with our list of things we wanted to do. After our meeting concluded the very next evening, I received a detailed quote with the price break down of all the items. The price was very fair, reasonable, and we scheduled the work to be done. The worked covered approximately 2.5 days. We did add a couple of items and James was very accommodating and let us know in advance any cost adjustments as a result of our addition. We found him and his team to be very honest and upfront. They took time to answer our questions and explain things to us. In placement of our new recess lights James took time with me to work out placements for the lights. He was very patient and accommodating. The entire job was excellently done. They have an eye for detail and the work was done meticulously. You can tell they are very skilled and very good at what they do. We are extremely pleased with the results. Since, they are very detailed in everything they do, they even sweep and clean up after themselves. They treated our home with utmost respect. We enjoyed working with them and found them easy to work with. They are very hard, dedicated workers. The result was worth every single penny spent. I can understand now why James and his team have been winning Angie’s award since 2005. Well earned and deserved. We strongly feel Angie’s should award James J. Carleton Electric right now the Angie’s award for 2011. It has been truly a pleasure working with James J. Carleton and we are grateful to James and his team for helping us out with our electrical needs. We feel we found us our main electrician guy. We will now primarily use James for any future electrical work and will be recommending to our friends, family, and co-workers.
