We had scheduled the work to be done on a week day but the electric company had not come out to unlock the meter so they came back the following saturday. They help us out a whole bunch.could not been Happier

They two electricians, Garret and (can't remember the other name unfortunately) came out. They were both excellent. Very knowledgeable on all aspects. Immediately started work, and hustled. They did a fantastic job wiring everything and even cleaned up a few mistakes made at the breaker. They were nice enough to give some valuable wiring advice in a few areas I was not familiar with. Very respectful and accommodating. I had to run out of the house a few times, and they didn't need any guidance, I told them what I wanted done and they did it perfect. I highly recommend Carleton Electric to anyone in need of Electrical Work. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

I hope that James is the only electrician I will ever again have to hire. He is the most capable, intelligent, well-mannered, efficient, punctual, and all-around ideal electrician a homeowner could find. There is no comparison to several other electricians I have had to hire in the past 25 years. He showed great patience with woodworkers who delayed his appointments twice. It must have been frustrating for him, but he was cordial and cooperative. And his work is faultless. He is A++.

James was very responsive and came out the next day. We would definately hire his company in the future for all our electrical needs.

Though it took longer than he thought to obtain the hardware and we had to reschedule a couple of times, his recommendation/selection was excellent -- color temperature was right on, and the fixtures were of very good quality. His associate completed the installation quickly and competently, and the price charged for the work was eminently fair. We paid less for the fixtures than we would have had to pay if we had purchased them ourselves. I'd be glad to use his services again.

I emailed Mr. Carleton through the Angie's List website. He got back to me on the same day. He gave me an appointment the next day in the morning. Mr. Carleton and his colleague let me know that they were on their way. They arrived, looked at the outlets, determined what was wrong and went to Home Depot to get the replacement outlet. They were back within 30 minutes and replaced it. They cleaned up everything. When they saw that we were using the oven to cook, they asked us if it was a bad time! They were even very sweet with our kitten. Great price and excellent service. Both very polite and professional. They will now be my go-to electricians!

Didn't "go" anywhere...

James' estimate was significantly below that of the other three estimates we obtained, and he and his crew did great work. We were very pleased with the results (the ceiling fans were particularly well balanced and haven't knocked once after three months of summer use). James was pleasant, professional in his conversations with us, and helpful when discussing alternatives. One problem was punctuality. I almost tossed his estimate since he showed up two hours late for the initial visit and I needed to call him to find out where he was. They also needed to delay our work due to another project running over time, and his crew missed an item on our punch list and had to come back and do it later. They seemed particularly rushed - they have a lot of business and underestimated the time required for both our work and their previous job. I would have also preferred it if they had done a better job cleaning up afterwards -- the debris was collected in two places but not disposed of, the walls had plaster dust on them from the cutting and repair, and his crew left soda bottles and lunch leftovers around our house. Overall though, they did quality work for a great price and, when there were problems, they were handled quickly and professionally. I would definitely hire them again, although if we were on a particularly inflexible schedule I might think twice.

I sent an email Monday morning about an issue with a rental property I own in Boston. The lights in one room would shut off after 5 to 10 minutes. I received a response within 10 minutes after posting a request stating that they could stop by to take a look the next day. Since this is a rental and I live out of state, I asked that they call the tenant to coordinate the time which was a bit of a hassle for them. That evening I received a text from my tenant stating that they had called and they were in the area and were going to stop by if that was alright. I asked that they call me to discuss the findings and the solution which they did within fifteen minutes of their call. It was a simple bad dimmer that needed to be replaced because it was overheating. I know it was a simple problem and simple solution but they handled it quickly and professionally and didn't overcharge me. I need this kind of confidence when I am out of state trying to maintain a rental property. I could not have been more happy and my tenant was very happy too. I will call James any time I need any electrical work done in the future.

Jim was very prompt both in returning my call and coming out as promised. I new I had chosen the right person when Jim walked around my living room rug so as not to soil it with his shoes! When he finished he wouldn't leave cleaning the floor to me even though I told him I could vacuum it easily.

James installed four recessed lights in my kitchen as well as a ceiling fan that I bought at Home Depot. He was quick to respond to emails and did the work within a week of my initial inquiry. Lights & Fan worked great & everything was patched up nicely (barely could notice that new lights were put in).I will definitely use them in the future and highly recommend their services.

I was very pleased with the work overall. Jim was very thorough in locating the cause of my short circuit and replaced the damaged outdoor outlet right away, even though he was expecting to be coming by for an estimate only. He even took the time to make sure all my electronics were working. When we discovered that my HDMI cables had been damaged by the short circuit, he gave me a replacement from my truck to use until he could come back to do the in-wall wiring. He was a little late (30 minutes) to the first visit but updated me by text message so that I knew when to expect him. My appointment wasn't the first in the day, so I think this is understandable. The second appointment was the first of the day - he said he would arrive between 8:30 and 9 and showed up at 8:30 on the dot. Both appoitments were on Saturdays, which is great for those of us who can't be home during regular business hours. He was also good about responding to emails and providing receipts for my payments. I would definitely call Carleton Electric for future needs. It was a painless experience.

Vendor was on time. Took about 2 hours to complete the jobs. Took great care to not create a mess. Very professional.

They were awesome. They cleaned up after themselves. They are very polite and professional. Their prices are very good. They did come out and give me a quote on the work before they started. They also followed up on the cable guy to make sure he did his job. They were willing to come back and do the work if Comcast didn't do it right. I would give them and A+ for their work and would definitely use them in the future.

Shortly after my first tenants moved in, I found that the bells to the upstairs and downstairs apartments were not working properly. I went to my, by now indispensable source, Angie's list, and found that James Carleton was highly rated. I called him to arrange for work on 1-13-2012. He was responsive, prompt and professional in his dealings with me. While he was working on the bells, I showed him some work in the basement: to tie all lights to one switch, that had not been finished by my previous contractors (unfortunately not found in Angie's List before I was a member). He and his colleague carefully threaded the wires between the ceiling and the floor and tied them to the switch. James pointed out that the previous contractors had not properly grounded the switch and the box was melting. He corrected this. I was exceedingly pleased with his work, the lighting worked perfectly, making my basement a much more inviting space, and his charge, for the time and effort he put in was more than reasonable. I have been delighted with the work James has done and would, without hesitation or reservation, call upon him in the future. I highly recommend him and his team to other Angie's list members.

We called because we needed some last minute work to fish ethernet wires for a new TV installation. We needed someone either in a few hours, or early the next morning. They came, did the work, and did some extra work that they noticed. Very capable, professional, neat. Nice people to work with. Would definitely call again.

We needed some minor work done as a precursor to insulation the walls and also installing some cabinetry. They were very responsive when I contacted them and were able to do the work on fairly short notice. The knob&tube inspection (for the insulation) was fairly straightforward, and when potential (unrelated) issues were discovered along the way, I was given helpful and realistic information about fixing it down the line without any sort of pressure to hire them for it. The thermostat move (for the cabinets) was done without any extra holes in the wall and they patched the old hole. We all expected the broken outlet to just be a loose wire, but it turned out the wire connecting it had been cut at some point and just stuffed into the wall. They ran new wiring from the basement and put in a new outlet. Since they worked so efficiently, even with the unexpected issue, the price ended up being lower than had been ballparked, and lower than what another electrician (who failed to follow up) had quoted me. The whole way through, they were friendly and professional and I will definitely hire them again.

I contacted James about installing 3 ceiling fans in my condo after seeing that the ratings on Angie's list were A's across the board and figuring all those people can't be wrong. Well, they weren't. For both the estimate and when he came to do the work he showed up exactly when he said he would. I appreciated this after being stood up by a couple previous contractors. He was quite thorough when he first provided the estimate, thinking carefully through different options. This thoroughness carried over to when he did the job (along with one assistant) and he was able to make adjustments on the fly when he encountered some unexpected wiring. The estimate came out to what he said it would, the time of the job was estimated appropriately and the price was very reasonable. You may be able to get some hack off of craigslist for cheaper but for the quality of the work i seriously doubt you can do better. I was also appreciative of his willingness to spend extra time making sure i was happy with how the fans looked. After he installed one fan (as i had asked), he offered to go back and take out the extension piece because i had changed my mind. Not only that, another fan came with a light kit that didn't allow for dimming. He offered to come back, once i got a new light kit, and install it at no charge (i haven't taken him up on that as i'm still working on tracking down the right light kit.) Anyway, the bottom line is you won't be disappointed with James. I would definitely use him for future work and recommend him to anyone looking for a good electrician.

They were very professional, efficient, and straight forward with the work. I am very happy the work was done to code and they were honest in doing so. They were very fairly priced as well.

Well. This started when I went to replace a ceiling fan I had inherited from a previous owner, thinking "this should be easy." As it turned out, the ceiling fan had been plastered to the ceiling (rather than hung from a support bracket), and, beneath it, there was no junction box but a bunch of crappy wires that had been there since Thomas Edison installed them himself. My tenants would be moving in in a few days, and this had to get done quickly. I called up Carleton Electric on a Monday. Tuesday morning James called me back and said he could get someone to my place that day, as there was an electrician, Tom, finishing up a job around the corner. I headed over, Tom showed up, takes one look at the ceiling and the medusa of wires coming out of it, and goes "oh boy." I think this ended up being a bigger project than they anticipated (though I did try to be very descriptive over the phone), but in about three hours Tom was able to get all wires into a condition where they would not be able to cause a fire at any moment, install a junction box, and then install a lighting fixture I had bought (there was no way to hang a fan, there wouldn't have been enough room for the support brace to go in the ceiling). He was professional, friendly, and efficient, and I'm really happy with the services provided. Hopefully I don't ever have any major electrical issues in the future, but if I do I'm calling them without hesitation.

The work was done fast. I was told it would take a week, but it was finished in 3 days. All areas were left clean. They showed about 15 minutes to a half hour late but they were apologetic and got right to work. I even added on work and they still finished a few days early. I was very impressed. I 'm not an electrician but I thought the price was fair for the amount of work that needed to be done. I was working with the city to help make the repairs and that took almost a year before they could start the work. James was very patient and understanding and I love the fact I can't see the wires for my flat screen on the wall. I loved everything about the work done. Excellent job.

I live in a condo building that has a fire alarm panel in the common hallway. Well, the panel started to buzz one evening and would not shut off. It went off for an entire night and into the next day when I called James. Despite the fact that it was Sunday, James called me back within 15 minutes of leaving him a message. I explained the problem and he said he could come handle the next day (which was actually a holiday). Overall, he was responsive, professional and reasonably priced (particularly since our contact was on Sunday and a holiday). I would certainly contact him again. Thanks.

Called back at the end of the day I called (somewhat rare) and came bright and early a few days later (in a snow storm). It wasn't a big job (attending to an outlet that had stopped working) but it was handled quickly and professionally. Also, nice fellow.

Great- James is professional, courteous & very accessible and responsive.

He did replace a lot of the wire insulation, but when the insulation company came and was in the attick, they found some exposed wiring after he had gone up to check it. He did come back to fix the issue. I just did not feel comfortable using him any further. I could have had a fire, and I find that to be a very serious situation. Also, the first 2 times I used him was only $85 and then when I had him back for the attick check, he charged $112, but he never informed me of the price change. I didn't have an issue with the actual price, but I would have appreciated him telling me the price change
