James responded immediately to our request for a quote on the projects and arrived on-site when he said he would. He provided a written quote within one day. When we accepted his quote about a week later, he arranged to pull the necessary permits and purchase the necessary parts within one day, and he and his team completed the job the following day. James was timely, professional, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He and his crew left our place spotless. Finally, he was very responsive in addressing a few follow up questions I had. We would definitely use his services again.

Very good experience, Jim & team were flexible as we had to move appointment one day and they accomodated, showed up when promised and delivered the work very quickly. Place looks great. Exceeded my expectations and we will use them again to some further home theater work.

James was just great from start to finish. He very promptly responded to my call and came out the next day - a Saturday - to completely get me up and running. He and one other worked outside in pretty cold temps all afternoon, shoveling through a foot of frost-frozen ground, building the temporary electric panel, setting up the lines and making it ready for hook-up. In every way, he and his partner were polite and professional. Instead of legitimately griping about the weather, they were happy about the sun we happened to have. There was a slight snag that happens a lot in my area (Charlestown), where the overhead wires seem to indicate one type of fixture for hooking up service, but really need a different one. (I don't know the technicalities.) James came out first thing the next morning, took care of it so the electric co. could connect me. Through the process, James also made calls to the electric co. to get the ball rolling and expedite my connection. He remembered to call whomever and whenever he said he would. It was a great experience and I'll confidently call him as *my* electrician for my new home.

James Carleton and his associates are our new heros. He tracked down his guys Gareth and Paul afterhours on a Friday evening to deal with a blown main fuse and get us up and operating in minutes, not hours. Could not have been more professional or accomodating to help us out in a pinch, and we will recommend these guys to anyone who asks, as well as bring him in for future jobs. I wish there was something better than "A" for responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism, because that is the grade we would use.

I found him on the list. He has been working on a project for me that was $5000. The work went very well. I would tell others that he is thorough, knowledgeable and he stays in touch, unlike some contractors. If he can?t make an appointment, he lets me know it and does not leave me waiting. I was happy with the price I paid.

He was very punctual and I have been working with him for the last couple of months. He and one other person came out and they were very friendly and attentive to what I was asking for. They were really responsive. Another person I contacted wasn't responsive. It was a good experience. I have called him again to ask more questions and get other estimates and he has always been very responsive and accommodating. He is actually a little pricier than another contractor I contacted but because he has been so attentive I am going with him. He is prompt, courteous and open to any questions that I have. He explains everything.

I have been using James' services for the past 5 years, and I constantly recommend him to people. Since buying my condo, I've had a series of small electric jobs that James has worked on. For each of them, he has been quick to respond, accommodating with schedules, efficient and pleasant. I've always felt that his pricing is more than fair. Of all the contractors that I have worked with for various condo issues, James is by far the best all around.

We had a major renovation project to do which needed a lot of electrical work. James Carleton was wonderful to deal with. He took his time to make sure he understood what we wanted and always made welcoming suggestions when we weren't sure about where to place a light or outlet. We ended up calling him back several times to do additional work, however he never complained, was always very polite and his work was always impeccable. The lights he installed made our condo look like a model out of a magazine and needless to say we are very happy with his work. Also out of many estimates he was by far the most reasonable and he also gave us an additional 10% off for being an Angie's List customer. Throughout the last few months we have met a lot of businesses and met a lot of people, but we can honestly say his company was the best we have seen. He was the most professional, most accommodating, most polite and most reasonable in price.

Jim was great to work with. He came out to survey my place and get an idea of the work I wanted done, then provided an estimate within a day or so, clearly laying out work involved and pricing for each project, so I could pick and choose what I wanted to do vs. not do. Then we were able to schedule the work within a week. He and his assistant came out and took care of everything within a half a day and everything looks and works great. Really competitive prices too vs. what I was getting from other contractors. I would definitely recommend James Carleton Electric. Very friendly, professional, and accommodating.

This is the fourth time we have used Jim for electrical work and again came away extremely pleased. He and I had discussed installing the fans and, when we were ready for him to do the work, I contacted him and he showed up at the time I requested. The job involved climbing into our attic (in the middle of August, no less), and they were great about cleaning up.

James was terrific. Running the cable to upgrade the service to my condo turned out to be a very difficult task because the building is old and the condos below me had undergone various renovations. James and his men were incredibly hard working, and tried every conceivable way to get the job done. They finally succeeded where many others probably would have given up. They were on time and worked as late as I would let them. They were clean and very friendly. I will use them for all my future electrical needs as long as I live in Boston, and hope that I can recommend them to others.

James and a helper came the next day after I called for an estimate to repair our doorbell. The were about 90 mins late but called in advance to let me know and check if it would be ok. They spent about 15 mins investigating the problem, then gave me an estimate. They completed the work in about 1 hour. They were polite, professional, sweet with my 4yo son who was in their hair "helping" them the whole time, and spent extra time to adjust the volume and sound quality.

I called to set up a time to meet. I'm a new homeowner and need estimates for various electrical projects. We set up a time for him to come by. There was a lot of noise in the background (kids I think) so maybe he got distracted and never wrote it down in his calendar. I waited on that day and he never showed up or called.

We can't say enough about how great James and his crew are and how pleased we are with all of the work they did on our home. After finding James on Angie's List, James initially came out to provide us with an estimate to upgrade our home's electrical service and bring everything up to code. We scheduled the project a few months in advance and it was initially estimated to take between three and four full days. We later had James come back and give us a second estimate after we decided to add a bunch of extras, like new fixtures and wiring our surround sound system into the walls. The complete job actually ran to about five and a half days, but the sheer amount of work they ended up doing during a major heatwave, and after we had added all of the extra projects, still made this a very reasonable time frame. Over the course of the job, we had four men work on our project. James, Nick, Tom & Garreth were all professional and very accommodating with any requests we made. They were very patient with all of our questions and concerns and took the time to offer us options whenever possible. (For example, we appreciated being asked where we would like a new light switches placed instead of having someone else decide for us, etc.) They went above and beyond the initial scope of the project and even took care of other little electrical deficiencies around our home that we had never noticed (i.e. they properly relocated an existing exposed wire that should have been run through the wall for our boiler shut-off, among other things). From start to finish, including permitting and inspection, this job was a great and professional experience. Having the men from James Carleton Electric work on our home was a pleasure and it is nice to finally have peace of mind that our home is now electrically safe. Thank you so much!!! We wish we had found your company years ago!

All the work was performed to our satisfaction for a price that was significantly less than other estimates we received. They were able to perform upgrades in areas that another contractor said was not feasible. Also, the unavoidable damage to wall board was minimal and far less than another contractor had told us to expect. We're very happy with the upgrades they made and they were very easy to work with.

After just closing on a fixer-upper townhouse in Southie, we found Carleton Electric on Angie's List. Jim and his guys are a pleasure to work with. Hardworking, knowledgeable and very trustworthy. w will continue to call Carleton for all our electric remodeling work.

James was very hard to reach and it was difficult to lock down a date from him to meet. When we finally did set up an appointment he didn't show. I sent him a text message (his preferred way to communication) 30 minutes after our agreed appointment time to see if he was still coming. He responded 20 minutes later by text message which stated he could be there in 30-45 minutes. I couldn't wait around 1.5 hours after our scheduled appointment as I needed to head to work. I called and left a message later that day to reschedule, but didn't get a reply for a couple of days. Got text message days later apologizing for missing our appointment and saying that the following week was open. I replied to his latest message to see if he could do that Monday. Again, he did not reply. Weeks went by before I decided to try one last time to schedule an appointment. I called and left another message. Again, no reply for weeks. When he finally did call me two weeks later (around 5/4/10), I couldn't wait any longer and found someone else to perform the work. As you can see I tried for about a month just to schedule an appointment for him to come by to evaluate the work, but had no luck. I was told by a neighbor that James did great work for them which is why I tried numerous times to schedule an appointment.

James and his associate arrived as scheduled. They installed a ceiling fan in my galley kitchen, which was a pretty fast and uneventful job. At first when turned on, there was a slight clicking sound, but James made some simple adjustments, explaining to me exactly what he was doing (I really appreciate that!), and then it ran smooth as silk. What a difference it makes in the temperature of that room! Then on to the buzzer system, which proved more of a challenge. When he opened the main front panel of the system, it was apparent that many of the connections were no longer connections! Wires were just hanging, connected to nothing! One unit's button was totally inoperable, the speaker needed to be replaced, and everything re-connected. James had to go get the parts for this and was unsure if he would be able to get the button as a single spare part for replacement, but did manage to find it and the speaker and came right back and finished the repair. I really appreciated that we didn't have to re-schedule the completion of the job, since I was taking time off work and really did not want to do that again the next day! James was very knowledgeable and professional and the experience was excellent. I would definitely use him again and have already recommended him to the other homeowners in my building.

Once again, I am delighted with the services performed. James and his co-worker arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and were pleasant and professional throughout. This is actually the second time that we have used this contractor's services. Having had such a good experience with him a year and a half ago, I called several months ago in a panic when we thought that we needed to replace our dryer the week before Christmas and anticipated a problem with the plug because of the unusual dryer outlet that we have. Given that we had a young baby, the thought of being without a functional dryer for close to two weeks was extremely stressful. I reached James on his cell phone on a Sunday evening and he assured me that he would be able to come within a day or two, if needed. Fortunately, we did not need to replace the dryer, but it was a tremendous relief to know that we had access to such a reliable and dependable service provider that we immediately wanted to hire him again when we were ready to have more work done in our home.

Went well overall. Took a bit to get back to me. i called initially on Friday morning, received text back on Sat morning and via text on Sun verified Monday morning appt. He arrived promptly. Very pleasant and helpful

Jim had done previous electrical work in this old house, and was able to do this work within a week. Both he and his assistant are pleasant and professionable, and I'd call him again .

I needed to have 2 fistures installed, one where there was no existing electrical wire and other was just a replacement fixture. Mr. Carleton came by within 1 day to give an estimate. We set up a date to do the work within a week. James and his team of 2 came, did the work, cleaned up beuatifully, were super professional. I highly recommend them. Had an ideal experience.

Jim was great and went out of his way to do the job right. He was courteous and respectful of our time and our house. He came back twice to make sure the job was done right.

He showed up on time for the quote, then came back a second time prior to completing the job to take measurements and make suggestions about lighting options. He was very accessible as I was at lighting stores trying to find the best option. He was punctual and worked fast and clean. Everything was done according to the quote, he also threw in some extra small stuff at no charge.
