outstanding work! this was on odd job - the entire double window frame needed to be removed to make enough room for a crane to remove a baby grand piano. pat knew exactly what to do and put it back in without a ding, blemish, chip. you could not tell the window had been removed and no touch up work was needed. amazing! pat was prompt, estimated the cost and time accurately and was very nice to boot! ii would use him again in a heart beat.

Pat was punctual, professional and extremely easy to work with. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. His price was competitive and the work was done as promised and beautifully done. He cleaned up the sight so that we never new he was there. We could not be more pleased. We will definitely use Pat for any future carpentry work.

Pat is a super friendly, highly skilled, reliable guy. He called me back right away and came out to see the house. After listening to our long to-do list, he helped us prioritize our projects, thinking through what could wait as well as what seemed most important. He advised on, but didn't push any particular choice of materials for windows/door, and was patient about me changing my mind a couple times. The guys that work with him are very nice, everyone friendly and respectful. They came exactly when they said they'd come, finished when they said they'd finish, and cost what they said they'd cost. Pat takes great pride in his finish work, makes sure everything looks tidy and clean. It's been about a year since he did the work, and everything still looks great, and it's all airtight and efficient now. I'd hire him again in a minute, and not just to hear his awesome brogue.

This is an honest contractor!!!!! He asked his plaster guy to do it and it was done perfectly, quickly, and low cost. This is a great find -- take it from someone who has previously not had good luck with contractors and ask this guy first!

Thank goodness we found Pat for the moulding and trim work. We had no idea how much we'd come to depend on him for honest answers, reliable service, and all-around professionalism. The woodwork looks wonderful and really "finishes" the rooms. This was the first time we'd had any contractor in our home without us present and we were a bit nervous since we have pets. Upon arriving home, the work was complete, the rooms were clean, and care had been taken to keep our animals (one dog and an indoor-only cat) safe and sound. Pat is the most punctual individual on the face of the planet - early, if anything. He gives his honest assessment about what needs to be done and what not to bother with. He respected our budget, our work schedules, and was always very accommodating with timelines for job completion. It's worth mentioning that we met Pat while we were expecting our first child and we now have a 4 month old. Having contractors doing work in a home with a new baby is far from ideal but, at this point, Pat is a trusted friend! Our advice to anyone in need of a contractor who has made it to this review: stop searching - seriously - this is your man.
Description of Work: We've used Pat for multiple jobs in our home. First, we had crown moulding/trim installed in our master bedroom and nursery. Then, we had one wall of our finished basement rebuilt after mold remediation work. (Incidentally, it was mold that Pat discovered while at our home to give us the moulding estimate!). Pat also installed / vented an EZ Breathe unit in the basement. Shortly thereafter, we had a frozen pipe burst and flood the (newly repaired!) basement so Pat came back and refinished the entire basement after the water remediation work was completed. He is presently helping us with large appliance installation and, in general, with maintaining our sanity.

Integrity. This is a word one rarely uses when talking about the construction business, but it is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my experience with Pat O'Connell, the owner of O'Connell Carpentry. During my renovation project, Pat demonstrated his integrity in three key areas: Quality - It is clear that Pat and his crew enjoy their work and take pride in a job well done. At no point did I feel they were cutting corners to save money or time. On the contrary, Pat and his crew would spend extra time to make sure the work was perfect. For example, they spent a full day straightening out the back wall of a closet because the wall (built in 1800) was so uneven and out of plumb. I know a number of contractors who would have done a "good" job and gotten the wall 80% corrected (it was, after all, the back wall of a closet), but not Pat. He put the same effort and care into my house as he would have for his own home. Price - While the price that Pat quoted me for the job was not the lowest of the bids I received, I had the sense that it was the most realistic and fair. Most contractors insist on providing all construction items (e.g., plumbing fixtures such as bathtubs and toilets, electrical fixtures, windows, etc.) in order to get their 10% markup, but when I asked Pat if I could purchase these myself to save some money, he was fine with that. In fact, when one of the toilets I supplied turned out to have the wrong dimensions, Pat offered to buy the toilet from me - and insisted on paying me $100 more than the purchase price to compensate me for having to look for a new one. Schedule - When Pat started the project, he knew that my wife and I needed to move in four months later. Despite the fact that the HVAC subcontractor (whom I had hired directly) didn't finish his work until three weeks after his promised completion date (thereby throwing the project schedule into chaos), Pat never forgot the move-in date or his promise to finish the job before then. I recall a conversation I had with Pat about whether or not he would be able to finish on time, and he replied "I come from the Old Country (Ireland), and my grandfather and father taught me that when you promise to do something, you move heaven and earth to make sure it is done. If that means paying my crew to work longer hours or come in on weekends, I will do that to honor my promise to you." Despite a frantic final three weeks, the house was ready for us when we arrived on the move-in day. While Pat is not a saint (despite the impression I may have given above), he is the most honest person I have met in the construction business - and as the son of an architect I have met quite a few. I recommend Pat and his company O"Connell Carpentry without reservation.

All of his workers were more than professional. On time. Showed up early in the morning to fit our work schedules. Available to answer questions when needed. Model contracting company.
Description of Work: Cost is approximate. Insurance job. Pat had done a small job for me in the past and when my neighbor's contractor botched a remodeling job and flooded MY bathroom I didn't hesitate to call O'Connell Carpentry. Once insurance was settled they came in and got the job done within a week or so. Satisfaction guaranteed. I wish my neighbor had hired him to begin with.... In the Ned here is the gist of the work completed...Removed sink fixture and toilet. Cleaned and polished marble floor. Regrouted tub. Painted walls and ceiling. Installed new ceiling. Unrelated to insurance job they also fixed a sliding door which had not been installed properly by prior contractor.

Patrick and his assistant tore down the existing wood landing and stairs and the trim and lattice work around a back room. They arrived on time and set up and tore down the existing porch and trim. They replaced the old structure with PVC railings, deck, trim and lattice work. They arrived on time each morning and left the work area clean each evening. They removed all the trash and I asked Patrick if he could put trim around two skylights in two upstairs bedrooms. They did an outstanding job and I would highly recommend Patrick to anyone looking for an excelent carpenter.

1. Mr O'Connell is the consummate professional: on time, honest, forthright, trustworthy, non-judgmental, calm with an all-important sense of humor! 2. He maintains high standards of performance from his crew and will not hesitate to correct and re-work a project, even after the cement has set or the paint has dried. 3. His estimates for expenses and time are accurate. 4. The renovation was completed over one year ago and there have been no issues with the quality of the work! Mr O'Connell has my unqualified recommendation.

This was one of many renovation projects we have done over the last 23 years. This was by far our best experience. Pat and his crew are professional, reliable and courteous. Pat will always show up when he says. He is a pleasure to work with and his crew's workmanship is exceptional. His estimate was accurate. He goes the extra mile. Let me give one small example: The day the plumber was arriving we realized that the faucet was incorrect (my fault). I offered to exchange it that morning but Pat graciously did it for me at 6:30am. He is cheerful and a pleasure to work with. I concur with all the positive reviews he has received. I recommend him without reservation! The room came out beautifully.

This was the second time that we employed O'Connell Carpentry. They are fantastic ! We cannot recommend them enough. Both times that we have used them - we have been thrilled with the results. This time they did a superb job tearing down and disposing of the two storage sheds. They follow your requests to the letter and they leave the work area spotless. We love our new mudroom! Every time we go into it, we say it over and over again. Pat and his crew were wonderful to work with. I am extremely detail-oriented, and I was pleased to find that so is Pat. He rechecked calculations to every 1/16" to make sure that the built-ins looked perfect. He was able to anticipate and adapt to unforeseen issues with ease. When he says he won't stop until the customer is happy (within reason), he means it. After the built-ins were painted, I didn't like how we could see some of the seams, so he had the painter fix it and repaint everything. Jim, who works for Pat, is so good. Precise in his construction. Considered details that I would not have considered, and that says a lot. We had additional cabinets put in next to our existing cabinets, and he looked at how the original cabinets were installed so that the new cabinets would look original to the kitchen. The folks that Pat works with, particularly the electrician, really know what they are doing. Despite some unforeseen issues when we started opening up the walls, the final cost was not that different from the original quote. He was true to his quote.

Amazing company. This job was way too small for these guys but they did me a HUGE favor. Gave me a receipt for materials. Spent a lot of time explaining the job to me. Hands down one of the best experiences with a contractor I have ever had, (I haven;t had many of course). If they treated me so well for a job they didn't really make much, if any, money on I can only imagine how they treat their customers for big jobs....which unfortunately I am about to call them for as I no longer have a bathroom ceiling due to a water leak....

We have a broken basement window and were trying desperately to get someone out to replace the glass and/or come by to look at it to assess if we needed carpentry work in addition to the glass replacement. Patrick called me back immediately and was at my home within an hour with plywood to board up the window to secure our home. I felt better immediately. He gave me recommendations on what to repair and took measurements for his return to replace the glass. He also looked at my roof, and called another contractor to help me with repairs on that. A very nice man who took great care of us! We can't recommend him enough!

MADE MY DAY! I'm selling my house, and I called Pat because the inspection came back with lots of inaccurate "findings." He came over and walked around the house with me, my broker, and the seller's broker, giving his expert opinion on what needed fixing and how much it would cost. This guy is a high quality, fair and reasonable professional. I have an old house that needed some work prior to selling. He was not only fair but generous in giving me the name of some of his workers (plasterer, electrician) and not charging me a contracting fee. So far I have used the plasterer's services and the quality of the work was terrific. I think this contractor is a gem, and I have really been cheated by other contractors in the past --- I would highly recommend that someone looking to re-do a room or add an addition call this guy
