As human beings we all feel that we are the most disorganized and the most overwhelmed with what has to be done. In reality, I find that everyone feels that way when they begin this process – what I can offer is patience and empathy as well as discipline to help you accomplish your goals without judgment. Debby has been to my house a few times now and she works as a partner in going through whatever room or area I'm ready to tackle-it's always my choice. She'll do as much or as little as you want her to. She gets right down to work and she helps you get through a lot in a short time. She did come back once to reorganize my husband's desk. She'll take anything you don't want to recycle or donate yourself. Debby is a delight to work with.
Description of Work: Debby has been helping me clean out my house one room at a time, as the first step in getting our house ready for an eventual sale. She is so easy to work with, she gets you going right away, and helps you get past the feeling of being overwhelmed by how much there's to do to go through drawers, boxes, files, shelves, etc. Without being pushy or presumptuous, she has helped my husband and me consolidate and get rid of so much that we don't need. She helps you figure out what should be kept, where to store it, what should be donated, sold, etc. And she organizes what's left so it all looks great and easy to find. She has the name of resources for things like scanning, consignment, donating, junk removal, etc.

Deb arrived full of s**** and ready to go. Deb doesn't just advise you how to go about organizing and cleaning. She digs right in there with you and works at an amazing pace (one I couldn't keep up with). She's very comfortable to be with. She stayed for about four hours and conquered my kitchen. She also took out for us about 7 bags of books to donate, and a big bag of clothes. She knew the importance of "getting them out". I've wanted to hire an organizer for a long time, and I have no regrets. The best money I ever spent. I only wish I hired her years earlier.
Description of Work: Deb came out initially for a consultation. She is upbeat, funny and kind. She took a tour around my entire house, and asked really good questions to pinpoint what my needs/desires were, and what would be the biggest bang for my buck. She was helpful with cost-saving ideas, and truly out to help people feel better in their home.

In addition to knowing how to organize, Deb has a background as a social worker and that was a huge help with this project that had a certain emotional component. My daughter lives in an apartment attached to our home and her clothing storage crisis had spread beyond her space into ours, so Deb helped negotiate that territory between us very gracefully. She has such a practical, upbeat attitude, that she diffused tension and guided us to a fair and manageable solution. Deb made an initial one hour visit to familiarize herself with the project, and then gave us some goals for the next visit. At that point, she and my daughter worked alone together to implement the organization. Both living spaces are now livable!
Description of Work: She helped my adult daughter develop a system for organizing her out-of-control collection of clothing.

Ms. Fenn is plain spoken and worked diligently during the entire four hours of her appointment.. She took on reduction of clutter while I worked at sorting and tossing an over-abundance of professional and personal paperwork. Her visit provided an excellent example of how to accomplish what I am capable but for which I lacked the necessary will-power. Realized what needs to be done is not "rocked science" but time and determination. Well worth the cost in time and money.

This was the third day that Away it Goes has organized rooms in our home. She's done a terrific job so far, with two rooms left to go. The rooms were horribly disorganized, and full of junk, and she did a tremendous job of helping us sort out the junk from the items we want to keep, which she then organized. We feel comfortable with her in our home. The work was done quickly and efficiently. We were amazed by the speed. We look forward to working with Away it Goes to organize the remaining rooms in our home.

There were 17 file cabinet drawers and approximately 9 shelves of business books and other papers and office supplies. Debbie helped me sort through it all and determine what needed to be kept, what could be donated and what needed to be shredded. We filled 20 or more garbage bags with shredding. Debbie took charge of arranging removal of items to be donated and obtaining receipts for me for tax purposes. She put me in touch with vendors to do painting and electrical work as well because the office space had not been touched or refurbished in 20 years or more. The painter and electrician did a wonderful job also. She helped me sort through a CD collection and find more appropriate and efficient storage for it. She worked with me to create labeled storage for a variety of items that had never been organized before so that they could 'live' in the one small closet in the room. The room had been so cluttered and filled with file cabinets and unfiled papers that you could barely walk into it. When Debbie was done, the room was completely reorganized. I will be hiring Debbie to come back later this year to help me sort through my wife's clothing and reorganize our clothes closets. The final project will be to sort, cull, and donate items in the kitchen cabinets and reorganize the storage there. I am completely confident in Debbie's ability to help me do these additional tasks once I'm ready. I cannot recommend Debbie highly enough. She was kind and patient with me when I was sad and grieving; upbeat and funny when I needed uplifting; completely responsive to my needs and concerns and extremely thorough and conscientious. She deserves the highest award possible from Angie's List.
Description of Work: My wife died of terminal cancer in February. She had her business in our home. I used this company to help me remove all of her office furniture, files, and personal papers and to renovate and reorganize the space. Debbie was amazing. She always had good suggestions and a positive upbeat attitude. I was in a state of shock from my loss and deeply depressed. Debbie always met me wherever I was at emotionally on any particular visit. She is a great listener and has a great sense of humor.

Debby helped me de-clutter and organize my home office. (I'm not messy per se, but chronically unorganized.) It looks great, and she did a great job. She also had good ideas about how best to access my various materials and belongings - files, magazines, newspaper clippings - and about the use of digital tools like Evernote. It was helpful both to get the space physically cleaned up and also hear ideas about working with what I've collected. She also talked through my challenges and needs and came up with a number of helpful, tailored ideas. (I should add she was never judgmental about things.) I would definitely recommend her service.

Debby did a fabulous job helping me to clear out and reorganize my basement which needed a tremendous amount of work. She first came to my house for a 1 hr consultation visit before working with me to get an overview of my house and the areas I needed help with, providing some valuable feedback. Though I had to wait for a few weeks for her to start the project due to her busy work schedule and summer vacation, she was definitely worth the wait! She knew how to best tackle each zone and get great results just in a few visits. She was very positive and efficient and turned a daunting task into a pleasant and energizing experience . She has a very easygoing personality and is so wonderful to work with as a professional organizer. I can't tell you how happy I am with the results of her efforts and the marvelous organization that was achieved! My entire family is delighted! She efficiently achieved results that took us years to try to accomplish. I very highly recommend her!

Debby has come to my home 3 times to help me sort through my belongings after moving to Boston from out of state. While her service is expensive, her fees are flexible. She works very hard during the time she is working. She not only provides a positive outlook so as not to get overwhelmed by the amount of stff to sort through, she does the work of lifting heavy boxes and organizing the materials. I think she is well worth the cost and I will be using her again.
Description of Work: I moved from out of state and downsized into a smaller home. I had many boxes of goods and extra furniture. Debby has helped my sort through my stuff and develop a logical approach to getting rid of and storing my property in my home.

Debbie was extremely helpful. She asked a lot of questions to help me figure out what my goals were, and suggested options that enabled me to let go of a lot of old papers. She also gave excellent suggestions, including helping me see how I actually have much more space for storing things than I had thought, which led to me adding some shelving in my closet and making better use of the shelves in my entryway.
Description of Work: Debby helped me sort through piles of old papers and allowed me to clear the clutter from three whole bookshelf units. She also organized and help me organize and remove clutter from my file cabinet storage drawers.

Debby was an enormous help! My bedrooms were very cluttered. It bummed me out quite a bit and kept me from having guests over my house. With Debby's guidance, I was able to get rid of a LOT of stuff that I did not need. She also organized any remaining stuff in such a way that I could not see it as easily, and therefore did not give me the anxiety that I was used to for way too long. I highly recommend her services. Debby was great. Super nice, energetic, completely non-judgemental about a messy and disorganized house!, and very competent and informative. She has completed the initial consultation, which in itself was a huge help for us, and we expect to use her for further services as we de-clutter according to her advice. She gave great guidance for prioritization and goals for how much to get rid of, where to start, how to re-arrange our existing storage. She was able to quickly assess our needs and then break down our plan in chunks that are doable and will work. I heartily recommend her.

Debby was incredibly helpful in working with us to clean out a number of cluttered and inefficiently used locations in our home. After years of piling items in our finished basement (from games and art supplies to sports equipment and empty moving boxes) we were no longer able to use the basement for anything but storage. With great patience and understanding, Debby helped us to purge all of the junk and neatly store the rest. She then helped us to go through our household paperwork to help us purge what was no longer needed and file the paperwork that was. She organized all of the kitchen cabinets and the countless shelves of books and magazines. Though I consider myself an organized person, after 22 years living in my home, we had built up a lot of extraneous stuff that needed to be organized and decluttered. Clearing out the house can be emotionally challenging and tedious at times - How do I decide what to do with my kid's old artwork? What do I do with my grandmother's antique china? What about all of these books? etc - and it can be hard to keep up the momentum. Debby used a lot of humor and understanding to keep us motivated and positive throughout the process. As a result of working with Debby we re-gained two very usable rooms in our basement, I found a check I had lost and forgotten worth $500, I discovered I overpaid a bill of $375 and now have a house in which I feel more comfortable. She's definitely worth the cost.

Debbie was great! She's not at all judgmental; she actually made me feel better about our problem areas and gave me more confidence to keep things neater going forward. She's very friendly and easy to get along with, so it was easy to slip right into a good working groove and make a lot of progress in the three hours I had booked. I feel way better about the spaces we worked on and am planning to have her back in a month or two to work on a few other areas.

In late 2010 I bought a and quot;Big Dealand quot; coupon for $100 for three hours of organization services from Take It Away. However, I did not set up a time with Debby to meet with me until late 2013. I was pleased that she agreed to honor the and quot;Big Dealand quot; arrangement, despite the deal having expired. Instead, we met for a two rather than three hour session, which was fine with me. We met in my home office and I described the different areas. For about half the session we talked about my organizational goals and what I saw as impediments, and she gave feedback as she learned about me. In the second half of our time together, we went through boxes of papers that needed review. I assessed each item and handed them to her to place in either a and quot;to-be-shreddedand quot; or and quot;to-be recycledand quot; bag. We discussed whether items i kept were in line with my overall goals. I can appreciate the complexities that she faces as an organizer for individuals. She was insightful and respectful; that's where I appreciated her experience as a social worker. She went above and beyond by: * telling me about a website that gives recycling information for just about anything * telling me there is a New England National Organizers expo Jan. 25 in Waltham, MA with free shredding and workshops * emailing me after the session to recommend a book that related specifically to my issues with organizing

Description of Work: Organized a large office full of receipts, mail, newspapers and completely non-related items. At my request, Debby did not throw anything away without checking with me first and happily complied with my desire to recycle as much as possible. It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. She was very nice, she was on time, she was pleasant, professional, and we actually did something over the 3 hours that she was here. I would recommend her and I would use her again. I did not purchase any additional time with her but she was good.

Debby was extremely responsive and scheduled the work right away. In less than a half hour, she carried a couple hundred pieces of clothing up a long staircase and loaded the clothes in her van. She then delivered everything to the charity I had selected and obtained a receipt from the charity, which she is mailing to me. Professional and efficient.

Fabulous so far. See the above answer. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Debby is fabulous and amazing. I contacted her because my mother is a "collector" - a hoarder, actually -- and we needed professional help. She was highly recommended by a professional whom my mother has been seeing. Debby was so understanding, yet it was clear that she would take charge of the situation - while not being pushy, but working closely with my mother to accomplish great things, all within the comfort zone of my mother. She did not push my mother, but my mother seems to trust Debby. She has been to the house on numerous occasions, but we have had a number of things interfere with progress (hospitalizations, emotions, etc.). The most recent time Debby came to the house was to help me make sure it was safe for my mother to return from the hospital after a fall. In a little more than 2 hours - she had finished organizing the kitchen, the dining room, and the bedroom. She guided me on the other areas that I should concentrate on. Clearly, this is not just a general "organizer" situation - Overall - she has been wonderful.
