Geek HouseCalls (not to be confused with company with similar name) has given us exceptional help and service with our computers. We are so pleased with the person who has done work several times for us and our neighbor that we signed up for a year contract with them. The staff are professional and good working not only with repairs & training but great with customers. Highly recommend.

They are reliable; they did the repair and they did what they said they were going to do. They are not the cheapest, but they were punctual. They showed up when they said they were going to show up and did pretty much what I expected them to do.

I am not at all certain about the price or the date, as the work was done a while ago. The problem was: Our Dell laptop had serious problems, and -- in desperation -- we took it to Geek Housecalls. They diagnosed a virus (later they called it a "deep virus"), which I'm sure was correct. They kept it for much longer than the initial estimate, but they claimed they were trying to fix it without totally wiping everything off the computer. After several weeks they said this was impossible, and they had to do a complete wipe. However, they made sure to ask if I had the installation disks and all of the other information and back-up that I would need after a wipe. (I did.) Once they decided it had to be a complete wipe, they did this fairly quickly, and they re-installed everything they could there in the office. We have had no problems at all once they returned the computer to us. So they definitely fixed the problem; it just took much longer than they initially said. On the whole it went very well, and the price was fair.

I did not realize Fast-teks was a member of Angle's List, if I did I would have put this review in sooner. Matthew Matturro was excellent, he installed my router and fix any problems I was having with my computer and printer. I was so impress with Matt that I sign up for Fast-teks service policy, so now if I have any future problems I just call Fast-teks. Which I would do even if I did not have a policy. I would highly recommend Fast-teks to any one with commputer problems.

.My appointment was scheduled for 9a. The technician Michael arrived about 9:45 am. The company allows a 1 hr window for the technician to arrive. Initially I was not aware of this policy and I did call the company to inquire when the technician was due to arrive. They did inform me of this policy when I called. The technician Michael is very professionl and personable. He was the same technician that came, when I initially used this company in February of 2011. I explained the issues I was having with my computer and he proceeded to scan my computer to troubleshoot the issues. He cleaned up all unneccesary files and programs that might be causing the problems. He insured all my programs were working properly and troubleshooted browser issues I was having. He configured my backup and instructed me on how to create a backup and image for my computer. He was able to address all issues, but because of my internet provider toolbar program issues, my browser problem with internet explorer were not able to be solved. I am able to use a different browser to access my email, which addresses the problem I was having with accessing my comcast email with internet explorer. The entire process took 2 hours and he left at 11:45am.
Description of Work: My computer was not working properly. Michael the technician troubleshooted my browser issues and other connectivity problems I was having. He cleaned up all files and configured my external backup hard drive and formated it to function properly. He insured all my malware and antivirus programs were working properly. He also instructed me on how to use browser tools and to schedule regular backups.

The entire process from estimation to completion went fine and on a schedule that met my needs. I should mention that we had to do this work quickly because I was on a very tight schedule. Geek accommodated my needs. The price includes some hardware purchased by Geek.I worked with Dave (owner), Leo and Peter in the process of estimating and completing the work. I can, without hesitation, recommend their services.
Description of Work: I employed the service of Geek Office Solutions which is a division of Geek Housecalls. Our company was moving offices and our new space had networking wiring in place but unterminated (in the IT closet) and untested so I hired Geek to do the testing and terminating.We had a total of 32 drops tested and terminated. A couple of drops were fixed in the process.

In late April I lost my e-mail and Internet connection on my home computer. I phoned my ISP, Earthlink, and a technician was able to walk me through a fix. But a couple of weeks later the same thing happened again, and this time Earthlink was unable to solve the problem. I found a coupon for Fast-teks in the latest Angie's List magazine, and my husband was able to verify on his computer that the company had a number of good reports. After trying the usual sorts of things several times without success (turning on and off the modem, rebooting, checking connections), I called Fast-teks in the early afternoon of 8 May 2012. The person I spoke to asked some sensible questions about the kind of computer I had and said someone named Michael would arrive that afternoon between 5 and 6. In fact, Michael was a little early (which was fine). He was polite and very easy to talk to. He recommended getting rid of my McAfee virus detector (which had come with my computer and for which I had been paying an annual fee) and replacing it with the (free) Security Essentials program from Microsoft; installing an additional 2 GBs of memory; and clearing away an incredible accumulation of temp files. I agreed to all of those things; in addition, I asked Michael to download software so that I could save files as PDFs, which I had been unable to do. Everything now works fine (and much more quickly). The bill, $269.50, breaks down as $15 for the service call, $173.25 for 1 3/4 hours labor at $99 per hour, $100 for the extra memory, $6.25 tax, minus $25 for my Angie's List coupon.
Description of Work: I lost my e-mail and Internet connection. Michael Delany of Fast-teks was able to restore it. He also diagnosed what had caused the problem and recommended changes to prevent it from happening again.

I found Fast-teks in the phone book, and I had a really good experience. Their service may not be for everyone, because it can be a little expensive. However, for me, it was worth it. The technician arrived promptly, and was very thorough. He answered all of my questions, and was able to help me with items that I was unable to handle myself. The appointment went so well, I decided to purchase a $99.00 one-year coverage plan. This additional flat-rate cost covered all visits I needed during that timeframe.
Description of Work: I purchased a new computer about a year ago, and they took care of setting it up in my home.

The work performed by Fast Tek was excellent. They did what they stated and did it in a very timely and professional manner. What really impressed me was a follow-up phone call from David, the owner of the company. He called about 5 days after everything was completed just to find out if there were any issues and if there was anything that could have been done better. It was very obvious to me, from the tone of our conversation, that he has a genuine interest and concern that his company does excellent work. I will most certainly call Fast Tek if I have any further issues with my computeer.
Description of Work: I have an HP computer running Microsoft {M/S] Windows Vista Ultimate that, for unknown reasons, would not allow me to log into windows. It would show the windows log-in security page but after entering the password it would say the administrator would not allow me to enter windows. The cause of the problem is still unknown however, the fact I had a computer that would not allow me to access its software I was literally stuck with a four pound brick. In any event, I called Fast-Tek of Metro Boston and spoke with David, the owner to schedule a home visit with one of his technitions. David stated he could send someone right away or if i could wait a few hours he would send his master tech, Matt. I elected to wait. Matt arrived at the scheduled time [He actually called and offered to come earlier than scheduled which very much pleased me] In any event, Matt was unable to fix the security lockout issue and left me with the option to purchase a new computer or reboot this HP computer back to factory setting. Of course the latter choice meant all software would be lost or needed to be reloaded [i.e., Norton 360, M/S Office 2007, etc.]. Unfortunately, copies of software I had on the computer were not with me [they were in Mexico City where I have my primary residence]. Bottom line I was left with a choice to spend $500+ to get my computer back in order or purchase a new one. For many reasons, including my old computer had a spanish keyboard I elected to have it repaired. Matt was very clear about the cost of effecting the repair...Obviously, spending $500 to end up where I started did not please me but that was not Fast Teks fault!!! All in all the repair took one day longer than expected [I choose to use my Carbonite "Cloud" to reload files rather than use the Fast-Tek system for file restoral] which delayed the process ; however throughout the repair Matt was in touch with me by telephone keeping me up to date on the matter. The computer was returned and has been operating fine.

Once problem developed with laptop I searched Angie's list for a computer repair service. Geek Housecalls was well rated and in a convenient location for me so a called and left a message. The tech (Lenny Young) promptly returned my call and suggested I bring machine in for an evaluation. Left machine at the end of the day on Tuesday, June 14 ($50.00 fee for evaluation). Lenny called and told me the problem and the approximate cost ($230) . Once I agreed he ordered the new hard drive and promised to clone existing drive if possible. Repair was completed on Monday, June 20 to my satisfaction. Have used laptop for a week and have had no problems.
Description of Work: Diagnosis problem with laptop. Problem was determined to be failing hard drive. Replaced hard drive. Tech (Lenny Young) was able to clone existing hard drive. This saved me the effort of reloading software and saved all my existing files. Would definitely use again.

They were very up front on their pricing which is $150 for the first hour and $25 every 15 minutes after that.

I love the Geeks! I've used them for years. They are very competent and professional, but the service also feels very personal - my Geeks have always paid close attention to exactly what I wanted (even if it wasn't the way they'd do it themselves), and have endeavored to make me happy. It's not a cheap service, but as with so many things in life - you get what you pay for. A bonus: Every Geek who's been to my house has been funny, friendly, and delightful, besides doing great work. You never want something to go wrong with your computer, but it's nice to be in hands of superbly competent professionals when you find yourself in this situation. Geeks 4-ever!!

Partly great and partly bad. The first appointment I had the 'geek' never showed up. The guys in the office never got a good explanation from the 'geek' who said I never answered the door. Wrong. The next appointment went extremely well, although the computers couldn't be networked because of stuff my ex did on my computer and the geek didn't have the software with him to fix it. That ended up being fine with me. The work took longer than had been estimated though.
Description of Work: I wanted to network a new Mac with an old PC, as well as load some software on the new Mac.
