Dan did such a great job! It was a house built in 1780 and so we went into the process expecting issues and we received a lot of information for future work. We could really tell Dan enjoys his work. He was extremely responsive and patient, explaining everything he was doing. Report was extremely timely and complete. He reached out proactively when the radon test came back and emphasized that We can reach out to him at any time. We highly recommend him!

My wife and I were first time home buyers with minimal experience in 'handy-man' knowledge. We contacted Dan from Still River Home Inspections and were impressed from the very first conversation! He took the time to answer all of the questions we had, and provide a sample inspection report. The day of the inspection, we showed up to the house and Dan was already there and had begun taking a look at the outside structure. He is extremely thorough in his work, looking in all areas, including the hard to get places. During the inspection he allowed us to follow him around and ask as many questions as needed to ensure we felt comfortable. His responses to our questions were very detailed yet easy to understand and he also provided additional information including what he would anticipate cost to fix would be (although of course not guaranteeing his cost quote). We were at the house for about 6 hours and never once did Dan make us feel as if we were asking too much or getting in his way of doing his job. He provided a very detailed report that was easy to read including lots of pictures. Due to his detail in reporting with pictures, we were able to use that information as we negotiated the price further. The information we provided (thanks to Dan) was indisputable and was recognized through additional significant buyers credit. We had read reviews about this report being a manual for the house, and ours truly is. Dan called out basic things that he felt we should know being first time home buyers. He went above an beyond and we will absolutely hire him again!! Thank you Dan!!!

Dan was superb in every way, the model of what a conscientious home inspector should be. We arrived early at the property and found that Dan was already walking the grounds, scanning the roof through his binoculars. During the exhaustive inspection (9am to 3pm), he made every effort to help us understand any potential issues and concerns with the property. You learn, in effect, to see the house through his eyes. (Diving into the crawl space with him is optional!) Dan took many high resolution photographs that were included in a meticulously produced inspection report. In just over a hundred pages, the report gave us a comprehensive overview of the property and the issues that need to be addressed. I was frankly amazed that Dan was able to distill his observations and recommendations into so useful a document and have it ready for us the next day. Going far beyond the counterparts that I have received in the past from other inspectors, his report was a great help to us during the buying process--and beyond. We now have a much better sense of what we need to do to be good stewards of our home. I would also add that Dan has been unfailingly gracious and patient in his interactions with us. We have benefited greatly from his expertise and level-headed advice. I give Dan and Still River Home Inspections my highest recommendation.

Dan was incredibly professional, patient, and helpful For example, he returned phone calls promptly (less than half-hour), and his response time to emails was prompt. We booked an appointment for home inspection just two days prior, and he was willing to reschedule even earlier in the morning so that additional people could attend the inspection. Dan's performance exceeded our expectations. Dan took his time thoroughly inspecting the exterior and interior of the home. After over four hours of careful identification of home issues, Dan spent an additional 20 minutes to communicate the major issues of the home and ensure our complete understanding before we departed. (The home was 1500 square feet, 3 bedroom 2 bathroom, so this generous time allotment was unexpected.) We were surprised with the time and care Dan took and his attention to detail. Despite the fact that he had four adults in tow, Dan methodically stayed on task room-by-room while answering all our questions. He did not hesitate to elaborate or give his professional opinions when pressed for more detail. His knowledge was undeniable and we will use his services in the future. Although I avidly took notes during the inspection, Dan took pictures throughout and provided same-day service to provide us with a clear and detailed report. This report made my notes completely unnecessary because it included ALL relevant details needed. We especially appreciated that the report specified major issues (complete with annotated pics) and was well organized and clear. The terminology on the document was perfect for tradesmen, whether addressing electrical, plumbing, or carpentry issues. His ability to communicate in writing was easy to understand and used accurate word choice, including an index of terms at the end. Based on his excellent service overall, Dan has earned my highest recommendation.

This is the second house that Dan Jones has inspected for me. The first one had significant issues with wood rot, plumbing corrosion, safety issues with the heating/hot water system, structural issues with the deck, and more. Decided to pass on that one. Dan, performed the same thorough inspection of the second house. Fortunately it was in much better shape. Dan's knowledge of all of the house systems from over the years was amazing. I learned a lot about how they work, why something was an issue, what's needed to fix it, and how to maintain it. He also offered that I could contact him at any time with questions, which I did, and received responses within hours. On this house, which was built in 1965, Dan noted that the oil line to the furnace was unsheathed and ran under the house with potential for leakage and ground contamination. The water was the same, under the house, with potential for leakage and expensive repairs. Also, the chimney for 2 fireplaces and the furnace, with 3 flues, had some internal deterioration that I wouldn't have even recognized, but could result in carbon monoxide entering the house when running the furnace. There were also some other easier to fix and/or less serious issues identified such as some missing support hardware for the enclosed porch, reverse wired outlets, and overheating switches. I don't think there's anything that Dan missed. If he couldn't see something due to access, he let you know, and made you aware of what you should know. Dan was totally professional, on time, thorough, extremely knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. After the first house inspection, and I needed a second one, there was no hesitation in calling Dan. Hopefully, I won't need another one for a while, but I would definitely call on Dan Jones at Still River Home Inspections for any more inspections, and highly recommend him. My inspections were very thorough, taking about 3 1/2 to 4 hours, and the fully detailed report, complete with many photos, was received either that night or first thing the next morning. The end result was that major issues were identified to be fixed, and I gained invaluable knowledge about my new home.

Dan is formidably thorough. He arrived early (30 mins) and got started right away. He inspected a 4,100 sq ft house and was extremely thorough, right down to finding hidden panelling, unscrewing, climbing inside. He prepared a report with many, many photographs and courteously offered a follow-up with any questions we may have. He only does 1 inspection a day - full survey in the morning, full report in the afternoon. Others will do 2. Not one minute of the inspection was wasted. Every banister was shaken, every crack investigated, every window opened and closed. Dan isn't the cheapest, but nor is he the most expensive. And while I can't compare him to others in the area, to other inspectors I have known (who have done great jobs), Dan has gone above and beyond. Very impressed and highly recommended.

We put an offer on house and only had a few days before leaving on a trip. Dan was very responsive and came within a couple days. Dan did an excellent inspection (spent 3-1/2 hours for an 1800 SF home) and wrote a great report, complete with pictures. Our realtor was even impressed with their services.

Dan is very good at what he does and will leave you with no questions. He was incredibly thorough and he not only tells you about his concerns, he offers tips on how to fix them. He went over every inch of the house and found things I never would have in 100 years. He takes a lot of pictures and includes them in his detailed report. I hired Dan on based on the positive reviews responses on Angie?s list and I?m glad I did. I would recommend Still River to anyone in need of a thorough home inspection.

Dan Jones is very professional and his reports are very user-friendly with detailed descriptions, well-organized sections, and with photos and reference numbers. The descriptions are helpful and informative to both the non-technical home purchaser and to the repair people who come in afterward to actually make the repairs. The repair people are instantly able to familiarize themselves with the problem and situation through looking at his pix and report. He was very personable, professional, prompt and very good at answering questions. He showed us how to keep the home in good repair and gave us ballpark estimates for repairs in Massachusetts since we came from another state. He spent a long time in the house and told us many options for repairs. It was winter and I lost my keys in the deep snow of one backyard at a home inspection and he went back into the yard and found them!! That saved us $800 not having to replace the car key fobs, etc.! We highly recommend him to all friends and acquaintances needing home inspections.

I am purchasing a new home and Dan at Still River Home Inspection preformed the inspection. Dan was more thorough than I could have ever expected. He discovered several major issues that I would have overlooked that will help us recover money in the sale of the house. Dan was prompt in his write up of the inspection as well. He made it very easy for us to go to the seller with the desired repairs. All in all, I can't ask for much more.

This is the second property we are buying and the best inspection we've had. Dan took his time to look at every area of the house i thoroughly and we learned so much along the way. It was like taking an a house maintenance course and he was very pleasant. His report had a lot of pictures and covered every detail that was discussed and great recommendations. I feel confident to follow his report to build a maintenance to do list to keep us on track. Dan was also very informative and reachable after the inspection to answer our questions and concerns. I would highly recommend him. His inspection report was very detailed and came quickly the next day which was great to help us make a very big life decision. He does one inspection per day and he takes his time to really focus on his client and give them the best service and at a very reasonable price for the quality of work.

This is the most thorough home inspection I've ever had. Dan spent over five hours going through my future home. He explained his findings to me every step along the way . The follow up report was comprehensive and easy to follow. Lots of pictures helped identify topic locations. I urge anyone buying a home to use Still River.

Five stars (out of five) to Dan. We had an accepted offer on a condo in Arlington Heights. We were on a tight schedule for the inspection. Fortunately Dan had a last minute cancellation and was available for an inspection on the Saturday morning. He mentioned that the inspection would take about 2.5-3 hours for the condo. Dan volunteered to start a little earlier because of some other schedule conflicts which might have cut it close on the total review time. He was already at the property about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. After some quick paperwork, Dan got to work and started with a thorough inspection of the roof, moving on to the retaining walls, the building structure, electrical and plumbing, and finally the rest of the interiors. He explored all the surrounding areas of the house to get as detailed an overview as possible. He very clearly explained all the technical nuances of how different parts/equipment is inspected, how they are built/installed, what the history behind some regulations are, and what methods he was using to perform his estimates/inspection. He also patiently answered all the questions we had. He was pretty methodical in identifying and explaining issues as and when they came up. In addition, he gave us ample tips on how to identify issues and other general home maintenance tips. He was extremely focused in what he was doing and stood his ground when the seller's agent tried to dismiss some of the issues as "common occurrences". He proved to her by politely stating clear facts removing any reasonable doubts in anyone's minds. Overall the inspection took almost 4.5 hours (an hour or two more than Dan's original estimate) and Dan sent us an extremely detailed report (with lots of pictures) by the next morning. We decided not to move forward with the condo. But we will definitely want to use Dan again next time. We highly recommend Dan Jones from Still River Home Inspections.

It went very well. As I mentioned, this was a home inspection to prepare for selling the property. We started at the exterior of both houses looking at the roof, foundation, siding, windows, flashing, chimneys, exhaust stacks, wells etc. Dan spotted trouble areas and gave suggestions about how to ameliorate these issues. In the interior, we started in the basement and looked at systems. He emailed me afterwards with even more info on the boiler and furnace models. We looked at the foundation on the interior, the beams, the plumbing, the water filtration system etc. We then moved to the upstairs areas. As I mentioned, Dan was very thorough. He checked that the all windows and doors opened and closed properly, ran the taps to check water pressure, provided lab names for water testing and radon testing, checked the wiring and the electrical panels, the insulation, the flues as well as the structural integrity. He even had an electronic meter that could identify if the water stains on the ceiling were still wet or if it was just a discoloration from a previous, now repaired leak. He was well prepared with tools, ladders, a camera and other electronic inspection devices--even binoculars to aid me in seeing what he was talking about regarding the shingles and the chimney flashing on the roof. I recommend him very highly.

Although they did not end up completing any work for me, Still River was responsive and good to work with over the phone when discussing pricing and available options. Their prices were in line with other inspection services I contacted - $850 for a two family home with three bathrooms, two kitchens, and a very old basement that needed radon testing as well.

My wife and I are making an offer on a house so we obviously needed a home inspection. The person that I have used before does not cover this area so I went to Angie's List and found Still River. I was concerned initially about using a different person. I asked how long the inspection would last and felt better when I was told that it would be 3 hours. If it was going to be a half hour to forty five minutes I would have been concerned. Dan from Still River arrived promptly to the house to meet me and my agent. He covered what he was going to do and we got started. Dan took us around the house poking at every location where there might be an issue. As he went he explained clearly what he was doing and why. He also did his best to look in areas that were not easy to get to. He looked at the windows, siding, roof, trim, doors, bulk head, deck, electric, vents, eaves, and drainage. As he went along he took pictures that he would use in his report. We headed down into the basement and Dan located an access point to a crawl space that I had not even seen. I looked at the crawl space and figured that I had seen it all. Not Dan. He pulled on a Tyvek suit and went in for a better look and found a possible way to access a crawl space that had been thought to be inaccessible. Then we went over the electrical, drainage, water damage, boiler, oil tank, hot water heater, and vapor barriers. On the upper floors Dan continued to be very thorough. He checked each door to make sure that they all latched. He also tested that the steam heating system was working properly and even explained how to adjust them properly and things to watch out for. He went over the bathrooms and made sure that everything was in order or made a note of it. At the end of the inspection Dan managed to find another access to an attic space that we had thought was inaccessible. He could have blown it off. I would not have known or even been able to blame him for not seeing it. He crawled in there to look for problems. After over four hours of inspection we wrapped up the inspection at the house. Dan had the a report on line and ready for my review by the evening. I will use the report to address issues that Dan found to prioritize what needs to be done. If the property/market was different I might also use it to negotiate a different price.
