This work was performed at my mother's residence, which we were preparing for lease or sale. The fireplace had been used extensively and had an odor. The company came, inspected and gave us a report on the condition of the fireplace, then removed the soot and tar. The company was prompt in their response, gave us an estimate for a reasonable amount and discounted the estimate when the work was not as extensive as first expected. Excellent company! He took special care not to damage the brick floors and ensured that no soot or tar entered the home as he worked. Highly recommended.

I was very pleased with the service of this company from start to finish. First, a company representative responded to the e-mail I sent through Angie's List within an hour of being sent. Mr. Ron promptly scheduled an appointment that fit within my schedule, and a company representative called to confirm the appointment the day before. On the day of the appointment, I received a call from Mr. Ron asking if it was feasible to come earlier, which it was. Mr. Ron was very pleasant and professionally attired. He inspected and cleaned my chimney, getting up on my roof and inspecting top, bottom, inside and out. Shortly after arrival, he identified a problem that I had with my fireplace that I had not communicated to him previously. He had parts on hand to repair the problem and proceeded to do so for a reasonable price. He completed the job quickly and kept my home clean while doing so. Overall, I was very pleased with the company's responsiveness, professionalism and overall customer service and expertise.

Ms. Edna was very nice on the phone and immediately scheduled my appointment and informed me of the fees. I also received a reminder phone call the day before my appointment. Mr. Ron showed up 15 minutes earlier than the appointment (which I liked!)... and immediately got to work. The cleaning was thorough and not messy at all- he was careful to cover my wood floors while rolling the equipment into the house. He answered my questions regarding a fire screen and gave me cautionary information about the bird screen that he installed on the roof. He also recommended that I get the chimney water sealed in the next couple of years. A nice, honest guy, fair price for the work done and no more of those birds! Would highly recommend!

Technician was 10 minutes early, he called in advance of arrival and was very polite. He visually inspected the fireplace in our new home and explained aspects of the ceramic/gas log system we had and how to use it properly. At our request, he described the pros and cons of the current ceramic log conversion of the previously wood-burning fireplace.We were considering converting back to wood burning, but he explained the value of the current ceramic/gas system and verified that it was in good working order. He inspected the vent and condition of the chimney from the interior, he inspected the chimney integrity in the attic and he evaluated the chimney integrity on the exterior by accessing the roof. He specifically checked the flashing and condition of screens. Since no screens were present, he got our approaval to add screens.The owner/technician was very honest and helpful. He advised us that converting back to wood could be done but might not be the best choice. He said it was better to retain the ceramic/gas system and that it would cost several hundred dollars LESS to not convert back to wood-burning. So he suggested that the cheapest option was actually the best option--he saved us a lot of money at the expense of a potentially much higher fee for himself. We will definitely use this company again and suggest them to all of our friends and clients.

Ron is great! Professional, always on time, great communication. He covered everything in the living room with plastic sheeting and drop clothes to protect our house - it was a messy job. The work took 3 full days to complete. Everything was clean and spotless when he left. For the first time, I feel safe and secure having a fire in the fireplace. No worries, no smoke. He also gave us suggestions and recommendations for tools, screens and firewood. We can't wait for the first cold front!!

Ron is honest, reliable, and professional. He rescued me from spending thousands of dollars with a potential scam artist who wanted me to rebuild my entire firebox and who used scare tactics to try and dupe me into hiring him to do the job. Ron spent time teaching me about the basics of chimney care, explained to me what I needed to do, what I could do, and what could be postponed for the long run. In addition, he was friendly and helpful. He was at my house three times, once for the inspection and cleaning, once to prep, and once to clean. On the third visit, I wasn't busy and it was Friday afternoon and we had a pleasant conversation about some other repairs I needed to do in my house. He's a good person, which is a rare these days among home care professionals.

I called asking for a bid to replace the chimney to my house. The man that answered the call did not appear to be interested in getting the business. When I described my chimney to him, he said he would not do the outer box of the chimney. I asked who would he recommend and his response was and quot;I don't know anyone. and quot; Then he hung up on me without another word.

This chimney had been giving us problems for years, mainly because of poor flashing around the outside at roof level which caused the roof itself to leak and moisture damage to the bricks. Basic Chimney Sweep put us in touch with a subcontractor who finally took care of our roofing/flashing problem (after other roofers had done an unsatisfactory job), and then he (Basic) basically rebuilt our fireplace to make it safe from the potential fire hazard of weakened fire bricks. Another contractor had recommended a total rebuilding of the fireplace at a much higher cost; but Basic managed to avoid that by building another layer of firebricks inside the existing fireplace. The result was a smaller fireplace but a safer and more workable one. Later that winter we did use the fireplace (with a new, smaller grate) and were happy to find that it drew well and that we no longer had the unpleasant "wet smoke" smell we had previously been getting. This service provider also took the extra time to climb up on the roof and check for leaks around the flashing by running a hose.

I scheduled my appointment just a few days in advance, and they were able to get me in at an early hour, which worked best for me. Ron's office called the day before my appointment to remind me of his visit, and Ron arrived right on time! He explained in detail what my service would consist of, and went right to work. He inspected my chimney and found it has a rotted cap, and gave me an estimate to have the work done. Ron used drop cloths, and was very conscious of any mess left behind. He completed his work as scheduled as well, and educated me on things I needed to know. He is a pleasant person to have in your home, and I highly recommend him!

Ron was extremely professional and friendly. He kept the place immaculate. He recommended that I do some brick chimney maintenance and provided information on how to do it, which I greatly appreciated. He also provided fireplace safety information and showed me how to check and use the flue and gas lighter.

Very impressed with professionalism and knowledge. He educated us as to what he was doing as he went along. Left no mess. Came ontime for estimate and when he was to perform the work. Will call him again when services are needed.

Our entire experience with the company was excellent from start to finish. We had called another company that had previously done work for us and they flat out told us that they have enough business in Baton Rouge and would not come out to Baker. I called Basic Chimney and they had no problem with coming to do the requested service. I had to schedule the appointment for 6 weeks away but at least they were willing to come and do it, unlike the other company. They called a week before the appointment to confirm. On the day of the appointment, Mr. Callais called to see if he could come earlier, which was a pleasant surprise(since usually they seem to come later more often than not). He arrived promptly and was very pleasant and helpful with our issues and concerns. He was not pushy at all with adding any additional services. He truthfully told us what the situation is and explained our options. Everything was done very professionally and very thoroughly. We are completely satisfied with his service and will definitely use him again.

Noticing bricks in the firebox of our fireplace loose and shifting, I called a chimney sweep who was advertised in the yellow pages as being licensed, bonded, certified and experienced. His ad was in the prominent upper right hand portion of the right sided page of the Yellow Pages, and the ad stated that he was the only certified chimney sweep in Baton Rouge, so I stopped there and called him. He was prompt in answering my call for an appointment. He arrived and looked at my firebox and pretty much told me that I had a fire hazard on my hands and that the firebox would have to be rebuilt. I made the decision to go ahead and correct this problem since it was a hazard. Cleaning, rebuilding the firebox, installing a new damper, waterproofing, and something else having to do with the crown of the chimney came to $3,685.00. He started on the job immediately and was finished in 2 days. The first fire built in the newly "fixed" chimney resulted in smoke in the attic and also rain poured in the chimney whenever there was a sizable storm. We called him back and he was not able to help with either problem, even though we had neither problem prior to his work. He suggested that we reline our chimney, but he couldn't do that himself because it was "offset." We were left in a lurch. I was given the name of Basic Chimney Sweep (Ron Callis) in the Baton Rouge area who was able to correct all of the problems we had and even had the equipment to run a camera up the chimney to diagnose the problem, something that I wish had been done initially. Ron Callais is also certified, licensed and bonded and experienced, but doesn't live in Baton Rouge, although he services the area. Ron was great to work with and he was able to solve our many problems, although it was extremely labor intensive and messy. Ron made sure he did everything he could to make the job neat and professional. I highly recommend Basic Chimney Sweep and I encourage anyone considering major chimney repair to check out Ron. No one should have any work done on their chimney without actually seeing up the thing with a camera. It was a very expensive lesson to learn.
