Description of Work: They were great on the front side of the job, arriving when they said they would for the estimate. Once the estimate was complete they continuously called and even showed up at the house to see when they could start, even though I was still getting bids from other painters. They then offered a discount to the original quote if they could start asap. So we allowed them to do the job. Our paint was a custom color and I even left a complete gallon of paint for them to use for color matching purposes. They started painting and when they got to the front of the house I thought the color was ligther than what was suppossed to be used, when I asked one of the painters he said it would dry darker and its the sun making it look lighter. Unfortunately I trusted him. They rushed the job and there are brush marks and paint drips everywhere. The front and back doors looked horrible and when i called to have them come back to look at the doors and other areas missed he had an excuse for everything. They didn't pain the outlet cover on the front porch so when I painted it using my gallon that's when I knew the color was wrong. When I told him he didn't use my color he seemed surprised I noticed. He then said there isn't anything he could do about it and I couldn't expect him to repaint my house for free. He took my gallon of paint and said he would see what happened and what Sherwin Williams would do about it. Of course I never heard back from him and he never came back to fix any of the areas of concern. I contacted him a year later to get my paint back and he said his guys must have thrown it out cleaning up afer the winter and he said he would come back and repaint once he had some jobs under his belt. I have seen him in the neighborhood painting houses, so he has had some jobs, but still no word from him. My house was painted the same color as the neighbor 6 houses down so I am guessing he got a great deal on that color by buying bulk and he didn't think I would notice. I will never use Pillar painting again and have and will continue to tell everyone not to use them.

Response from Pillar Painting and Contracting LLC
Someone recently informed us we had a bad review posted on Angie's List. I would like to respond to this customer. We do show up promptly for our appointments, and yes, we do make follow-up calls to show that we are genuinely interested in performing the jobs. As agreed, she was supposed to leave out her gallon of paint for us to match; however, the first day on the job she had left for work prior to our arrival and had forgotten to leave the gallon out for us. When we called her, she said we could take a chip of paint off of the house and take it to Sherwin Williams to color match it, which is common practice as most homeowners do not have the original colors to their home. We told her they would make as close a match as possible based on the chip. Chips off the house are faded from the original color, so we request Sherwin to match the chip, and then make it half a shade to 3/4 of a shade darker (such as 110%), in order to match as closely as possible without the original paint can. We have not had any previous customer complaints about this process and she approved this on day one of the project when she forgot to leave the paint out for us. Wet paint does dry darker and the sun can make it appear especially shiny and lighter while wet. At the time of completion, she did not have any complaints about the color of her home. Several weeks after the project, she called us and told us her neighbor had mentioned to her that the color was possibly not a perfect match and could be a tad lighter. She said she had not realized it herself, but took notice after her neighbor spoke to her about it. Most outlets on porches are not painted, so we did not paint hers, either. On the second day of the project, we arrived early before she left for work to intentionally walk her around the outside of her home to show her that the previous painters had left drip marks all over her brick home before we even painted those sides, because our crew noticed the brick the day we started, so that she would know at the outset the drip marks did not come from our crew. She confirmed she could see them and they were not from us. We did tell her that we could not come back and repaint the entire house for free. We did not believe that was appropriate, given that we had done the paint match according to the process explained to her and that she was satisfied with it for weeks before calling to complain that her neighbor said it seemed different to her neighbor. She asked if we could possibly just repaint the front of the house, then. We did come pick up the gallon of Porter Paint from her and told her we would talk to Sherwin Williams and see what they might be willing to work out with us; and that we had several projects scheduled over the next several weeks and, if it was possible, we would see what we could work out with her on the front of the house. Sherwin Williams did not have responsibility for any errors on matching the paint, since it was by a chip off of their home, so there was no recourse for the new paint color. The customer was not interested in paying for labor to repaint her home, and we were unable to provide free labor for a repaint. We should have returned the gallon of Porter Paint to her. We held onto it too long, hoping for an opportunity to resolve the situation. The crew disposed of all leftover paint at the end of season. We are fast, but not rushed. We do take care to provide a clean, professional job and have many satisfied references, even those whom we have returned to repair an issue of concern, which we provide with every estimate. We regret we have not been able to resolve this customer's dissatisfaction with us. She does have a beautiful home and we did treat her and her home with respect and care.

Description of Work: We asked Pillar Painting to quote our interior and exterior. We plan to use them for the exterior - weather pending. Their quote was not the lowest quote for the job but the quality of the work and materials were quoted to "do it the right way" so we have been pleased with Pillar so far. They have also let us negotiate the quote and extent of work to get us to a price point that works for us. Lastly, due to lots of rain in our area, they have kept in good contact keeping us up to date on when they will be available.

Mike and his team were a pleasure to work with -- very nice guys, above and beyond service. Very accommodating of my changing needs, and committed to making sure I was pleased with the results (for example they came back and repeated a dry wall repair, sanding and paint job on one wall because they weren't satisfied with the initial results -- I didn't have to ask, they just came back and revisited the sanding until you couldn't tell at all where the repair had been made).
Description of Work: Painted all rooms in a four bedroom house, including finished basement, moved outlets and made associated dry wall repairs. To be honest I am guessing on the price -- I initially wanted a certain number of rooms done and got a price for that and then changed the specs repeatedly (adding rooms, etc.), so there were interim payments. I don't know for sure what the total was, I may be a little off. But I can say I'd gotten other bids and this was the cheapest (25% or more below the others). I chose him based on his availability not the price, and in fact was a little worried that the quality might be low because of the low price, but was pleased with the work.

Well, it started out that we had hired another contractor when the owner of Pillar Painting, Mike, came to our door and asked if we would like some painting done. Since we had already hired someone, we said thanks anyway, but kept his card. We had some issues with the other contractor (escalating and unreasonable costs), so we fired them and called Mike. He came right out and gave us a much more reasonable price for whole job, so we hired him. I was having some trouble choosing colors (wanted to change things up), but had seen a house nearby with the colors I liked. He actually went to their door several times until he was able to speak to the owners and get the colors from them. He and his crew started the job, and after starting with the trim and garage doors, we ran into a slight problem. They had been painting the garage doors when it started to downpour and they had to pack up and leave quickly. The next morning, we tried opening the garage doors, and because they were old and made of particle board, they stuck, breaking the plastic grills in the windows, and cracking one of the windows. He apologized profusely, and promised that he would make sure that I would be "more then happy" when the job was done. It did take quite a long time, but he looked everywhere and finally found the grills (no longer manufactured by same company). When he was trying to reinstall them, the window that cracked shattered when he removed it, so he replaced that too. Back to the painting... As he was painting the trim, I loved the color against the brick and mortar on the front of the house, but when he got to the sides and the back, it clashed with the color of the siding. I was devastated and knew that no matter what we did, it would either mean I wouldn't like it (clashing colors), or would have to pay more money to start over (or paint siding). We ended up painting the siding because again, he gave us a fair and reasonable price. Mike was so easy to work with and so responsive to my needs and indecisiveness. He helped me through it all and was in constant contact with me. We went away for a long weekend and he finished the job (except for the garage windows), sending me pictures. When I got home, I was once again unsure of the colors I had chosen for the front door and shutters. Call me crazy! So again, we negotiated a price for repainting them, which he did right away. Throughout the job, Mike gave the most personalized, friendly service. The window sills in some areas were rotted and rather than just painting over them, he brought them to my attention and recommended two different contractors to repair them. It took a very long time to get the estimates (not really Mike's fault) and didn't really get them until after he had finished painting. He did offer to come back afterwards and finish painting the trim on those windows that needed repair. Mike also did some "extra" things at "no charge" which were much appreciated. He power washed a concrete pad outside our back lower door, he painted the mailbox (adding cute touches), and finished parts of the deck unfinished by the previous contractor. After painting our front door (twice with color changes), he offered to come back and paint a new door that we planned to get, but hadn't ordered yet. Really nice of him!!! I really enjoyed working with Mike, he was professional, but I also felt like I was working with a friend... someone who really cared about making me happy. I felt like I was such a pain... not difficult or unpleasant, but just kept changing my mind. He worked with me through it all with a sense of humor. Highly recommend Pillar Painting!

Mike and his team were awesome! I had been referred to Mike via JT Contracting and had meet him on a job that JT Contracting was doing for us. He was so easy to work with. He walked around the house with me as I explained all I needed. He explained that as part of is service he would power wash the trim, clean the gutters, seal the gutters, add caulk where is was needed and paint all areas with Sherman Williams 25 Year Exterior paint. He was so helpful in providing me feedback on how to go about the work I needed. He said he would provide me with a fair quote. And I was pleasantly surprised when his quote and my idea of what I wanted to pay where a match! When the crew arrived, they took their time, painted, repaired and clean as promised. Their attention to detail was on par with my high expectations! They even went the extra mile by fixing small problems, like a loose shingle, that was beyond the scope of our agreement. They even power washed and stained by old weathered front porch bench! Service like that is had to come by. The house looks great! I will absolutely use Pillar Painting for my next exterior or interior home painting!

Not well at all.
Description of Work: We met with Mike Pracht on April 23, 2011, gave him $1,000. in order to get the supplies he needed to do our interior painting. We asked Mike how long the job would take and how many men he would have coming in. We were told there would be 3-4 men and only a few days. Mike and his one man crew showed up. 7:30 am -8:00 am would turn into a start time of 9:30 am -10:00 am. Mike had told us he would do all of the necessary spackling/and/or patch work, and chaulking. We had pictures hanging up and asked it he wouldn't patch some of holes but that there were the ones we were going to reuse. We left the nails in the holes we wanted to keep.My understanding was they would take the nails out and paint. Then put the needed nails back into the holes.......but they just painted right over the nails in the wall. The spare bedroom ceiling was totally not done. But Mike wanted us to pay him so he could pay what he owed, so I gave him his final ckeck...with the promise they would come back and make everything the way we wanted it. There was no chaulking done in the kitchen or bathrooms. Mike would not answer my phones calls. My sister from Minnesota was coming to stay with us for awhile. I ended up having a gentleman come in and do the chaulking in all 3 bathrooms. Mike came to our home on July 26, 2011. He did my kitchen "favorite spot"......Spackled poorly and used a different color paint which was very noticeable. We had noticed the painter had damaged the large bathroom mirror upstairs. Of course, Mike didn't bring it to out attention. We had to call him once again. He said that he was going to contact a contractor so he could get a better price for it. Okay, okay, That last conversation was on July 26, 2011. I try to call him at least once a week just to see if there's any updates, but there never are because he doesn't answer his phone now. , when they painted the nails we wanted to keep from getting spackled over...the nails were left in the holes and painted over!! The patchwork was not very professional. We can see what had been and hadn't been done correctly. There were mars in some of the walls that really should have been spackled over, sanded, and then painted; but they were not.Over my kitchen sink, where I do spend an awful lot of time standing in front of, it was a little rough. That area was not done properly at all. We called him back to see if he would take care of these items and some totally missed nail pops, a bedroom closet ceiling that wasn't painted, there were some corner edges that had not be properly trimmed out. Therefore, we were able to see different colors in those areas. This complete situation, as far as we're concerned" didn't turn out like we expected. Just too many dissappointments. I would like to just get the bathroom mirrow replaced. From 7-26 thru 9-17, I honesly feel is a good and fair amont of time to complete this job.

Pracht had a subcontractor call me - this was a bit confusing because I kept calling back Pracht and it took a few days for the sub to get back to me. His price was excellent - and he was very helpful in giving me resources to pick a wall color and he bought extra paint for me at his contractor's discount so I could do the rest of the foyer and front room. I had a little trouble scheduling the work - he didn't get back to me for a while and I almost hired a different contractor. We finally got the work scheduled and he was over an hour late arriving. He completed the work quickly and did a fairly good job. He offered to caulk the molding when he gave me the estimate, but he forgot to do this. He didn't cover the banister so there was some fine paint spatter on it, but it came off fairly easily. I would say it wasn't the best contractor experience in the world, but for the price I would definitely hire him again for a small job. Keep in mind that this experience describes the subcontractor (I can't remember his name), not Pracht Painting - but since this is who they sent, I feel that this person represents their company.

The painter arrived on time (despite car issues!) and started painting right away. Along the way he gave me some tips on painting sleeves and brushes. He also offered help with colors and accent wall suggestions. I hadn't planned to do our upstairs hallway that day, but since I was so pleased with his work, I had him paint it that day too. Overall pleasant experience. I would recommend this company. In fact, I'm having him back in the future to paint our bedrooms.

First, I'd like to say that Mike and his team were very accomodating and patient. I was indecisive about the colors I wanted to use. They gave me tips and suggestions which helped me make a decision. They used top quality paint from Sherwin Williams. Mike helped me choose a Satin finish and I love the way it looks on my walls. I chose three different colors for the rooms and they had no complaints about having to clean equipment between rooms. I also decided to paint the ceilings at the last minute. It is a textured ceiling so they opted to power spray it. This worried me a little as I didn't want paint splatter all over the place. They did an excellent job of covering everything, I only had a little power sprayer paint on the molding in the stairway. It came off easily with water and a rag. I have staggered cabinets in the kitchen with space above and below them of heights from 5" to 20". They did an excellent job of cutting around these cabinets as well as all of the woodwork throughout the first floor. I was very impressed at how straight their lines were without the help of masking tape. For example the line between the white ceiling and colored wall is very even and straight. They helped me take down curtains and blinds and also helped me put them back up. They needed to use extra paint on the hallway because the builder didn't prime the wall well enough. I could tell there was a little irritation about this, but they didn't quit until it was done right. Overall, I am very pleased with the finished product and will be calling them again in the future to complete the three bedrooms and two baths in the upper level of my home.

I have been wanting to have my whole house painted for quite sometime now. A friend of mine recommended Pracht Painting. They had done work for her a few times before, and she didn't have one bad thing to say about them. However, I was still sceptical about calling them, because I don't like dealing with contractors much, as I am a single female, and sometimes I feel that they like to take advantage of that. I decided to go ahead and give them a call. When I called them to scehdule an appointment, they were extremely prompt and courteous and very professional on the phone. On the scheduled date, they arrived 15 minutes earlier than they were supposed to, well dressed, definitley not what I expected from contractors. They spoke very inteligently, and were very knowledgable about what type of paint would be needed. They took the time to show me photos of other jobs that they performed, and answered all my questions and concerns to my satisfaction. After the appointment, I felt very confident, that they were the ones I wanted to paint my home for me. They came back a week later to start the job. They were very respectful of me and my home. They completed the job ahead of schedule. They made sure that they left my home exactly the way that it was before they started. The job looked amazing. I couldn't find anything wrong with the work they had done, and that is very unusual for me to say, becuase I typically have OCD!!! I would definitley recommend Pracht Painting to anyone, and I will definitely be having them back in the Spring to paint my exterior. Once that is done, I will be sure to give an update!!!
Description of Work: Painted every room in my home, including trim and ceilings. Total of 9 rooms. Every room was a different color. Small drywall prepare was prefromed in a few rooms. Also, had to tear down wallpaper in one room.

Mike was responsive and professional. He emailed me a written detailed estimate for each portion of the work the same day as he came out along with references. He also does exterior painting and due to the rain was able to start the next day and finished in the 2 days he promised. He + his associate were clean and thorough. My cathedral walls were painted a vibrant red and they look fantastic.
