I received a bill today for $89.00. I called and spoke to Tay and then to a Mrs. Adams (Manager). I was informed that they first come out to inspect, then will come back (of course for more money) to make the repair and that I had to pay for that. I explained all of the above but to no avail. I did inform them that I would report this to both Angie's List and the New Hampshire Attorney General.
Description of Work: On 11.17.09 I made an appointment for this company to replace a broken handle on my GE Advantium oven. I received a voice mail requesting model & serial numbers in order for the tech to bring the part. I called and left a voicemail with this information. I received a confirmation voice mail that they received the numbers and that the tech would be at my home on 11.25.09 to make the repair. On 11.25.09 I received a voice mail that the tech was on his way "to make the repair". When he showed up he told my husband that he was there only to inspect the appliance (to the tune of $89) and that he would need to come back (for another charge) to replace the part (plus the cost of parts). When my husband disputed this "inspection only" (the guy insisted on coming in without the part) looked into the kitchen, saw the broken handle and said he'd now "inspected the appliance" and to pay the inspection fee. My husband refused and the tech told him that "GE would RUIN OUR CREDIT" if we didn't pay up.

I am not pleased with them. I hate their customer service. I will never buy another GE product no matter how good the product is. I don’t like anything about them. I am happy with the stove. The dryer stinks. Their customer service people are rude and they aren’t helpful. They don’t standby their product. I did not get the value for money.

Their pricing was a bit expensive. I bought the top end model and there was a problem with the water dispenser and the water would stop dispensing. We immediately and went back to the store where we bought it and the repairman told that it is better that I get another model. I had to go through a lot of hassle and it was not a good experience with them.

The person who came out told me that it would cost more to fix it than it would to replace it. I paid him $35 for the service call and just went ahead and bought another washer. The cost was what I would expect to pay for a service call. They were very nice, knowledgeable and professional, and they seemed honest. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future, if necessary.

Our refrigerator wasn't cooling enough. I was advised to contact the official GE Appliance Repair service in case any of the parts in my refrigerator were still under warranty. The service is easy to find online. You can schedule with an online form or there are several numbers to call. If you use the online form, you will probably have to wait many more days for an appointment. I tried both and ended up calling. I was able to get an appointment for the next day provided that I was available from 8 am to 5 pm. This seemed ridiculous, but the service will call you on a cell phone a half hour ahead of time to tell you that they are on their way. They did everything as advertised. The repairman called me on my cell before coming to my house. I was able to make sure someone was home to meet him. He diagnosed the problem as a broken defrost heater. He had the part and fixed it in under 30 minutes. The cost of the repair was $250 for parts and labor which was more than I wanted to spend, but still worth the cost. He was professional and knowledgeable.

I called the place where I had gotten my refrigerator and they told me that they could not honor the extended warranty that I had purchased because the receipt had faded and I could not read the barcode at the bottom. I called GE and they not only apologized for the company, but they talked with my about my schedule. They had someone out within ten minutes of my getting home from picking my children up from school. They covered the warranty even though I did not have a GE warranty. They were very professional throughout our interaction. He was very clean and he even took the time to clean up after himself. He even waited a few minutes so that I could clean behind the refrigerator when he had pulled it out. I emailed my husband and told him that any new appliances that I get I want GE and I want the GE warranty.

The repairman said we needed a new circuit board. We asked him to remove the cover in back of the refrigerator so that he could verify that the existing circuit board was broken. He said that that would not be necessary. We bought a new circuit board and installed it ourselves. This didn't fix the problem, so we called him back. This time he said that the fan motor in the back of the refrigerator needed to be replaced. We asked him to inspect the fan motor so that, you know, he could verify that the fan motor was broken, but he refused. The following day we called in a repairman from a different company, who said that the problem was not the fan motor in the back, but the fan motor in the freezer. He re-installed the old circuit board, which had never been broken. He said our installation of a new board had had no negative effect on the refrigerator. He fixed the refrigerator the next day, once he had obtained the new fan motor. We paid $250 to GE. We received nothing in return. Worse, we underwent an unnecessary one weeks' delay in the repair of our refrigerator. By the way, this is a GE refrigerator that is barely two years old. One would think that a company that values its reputation would be so embarrassed by the shoddy workmanship of its product and the desultory performance of its service personnel that it would return its customers' money. Not a chance.

I made an appointment on line and was given a 4 hour service window (8-12). I checked a box which said I wanted someone to come as early as possible. A technician called at 7:15 and asked if he could come at 7:30, which worked well for me. He identified the tiny plastic part which I needed to fix the hinge, explained to me how to replace it myself, and ordered it to be sent to me. I was glad I had contacted GE because other repair services told me on the phone that they would replace the entire hinge (for $150) but the actual part I needed was $20. The technician was very personable and pleasant. He said if I tried but could not do the replacement myself, I had 30 days for someone to come out and they would waive the trip charge (although there would be labor).
Description of Work: One of the hinges on my oven door was not working properly. It was hard to explain to people over the telephone and I decided that I should have a GE repair person look at it (since it was an older GE range).

The repairman came out and diagnosed the problem as a baffle between the freezer and the refrigerator (this is a GE Monogram less than 5 years old). We ordered the $75 styrofoam part which arrived 5 days later. He returned on Monday, one week after the first visit, and had to read the instructions to install. He stated the temperature should drop in a couple of hours. 12 hours later it was still above 50. Called again. He returned on Tuesday. Had to call GE for tech support. They told him to unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours. We plugged back in and it's been working fine. Customer service refused to refund the cost of the first missed diagnosis. Professionalism from service man and customer rep were both borderline rude.

The whole process was a nightmare and went on for about two and a half weeks. At the end of it, the one burner being fixed cost quite a bit of money. The company is not set up to provide service. They came and diagnosed the problem, but were not prepared to do anything. They needed to order some parts to replace the burner, and said that I would have to receive the parts as they couldn't receive the parts themselves. I scheduled another visit based on their approximation of when I would receive the parts. When the parts didn't arrive, although they had ordered the parts, they said it was not their job to check with Federal Express and that I would have to call and find out myself. The appliance company guy came back and did some work, broke something, and put the blame on me. He obviously wasn't good at his job. He said that the oven was old and I had burnt out something so he would need to order more parts. He scheduled another visit and asked me to be available from 8 in the morning to 5 in the evening, but never showed up. I stayed home all day and when I called the company a couple or more times, I was told that he was running late and would be coming out. Eventually I was informed at the end of the day that he wouldn't be coming as he was busy with another job. I was informed the following afternoon that the scheduled appointment for that day was canceled. That is when I told them that I wouldn't use them anymore. I had already paid them for the first visit, but I kept the part and made sure that they didn't charge me for it. GE is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Under any circumstances, I will never use the company again. I plan to replace my oven in the next couple of years and I will never buy GE. I lost about a week of my life just waiting for them to come and complete the job, which they never did. I had to pay someone else a higher amount of money to get the burner fixed.

When I called they told me that my contract had been cancelled even though I was supposed to have more than a year left. No one was able to tell me why it had been cancelled, and they tried to sell me a new 5 year contract for 600 dollars. A couple of years ago I had been told by one of their service people that I had to sign up for a new contract, which wasn't correct. I was actually paying for two contracts for a while. They did, at least, correct this matter and refund the money I had paid for the second contract. The work they did for me in the past was good, but the administrative problems have obviously been terrible.

I took notes about the working condition of my freezer. I told them about the person coming out to check the freezer from other services and what he said. The gentleman from GE was very professional; he listened to me without interrupting, evaluated what could be wrong with the freezer and based on the notes that I took for him. He did not collect any money until the job was assisted. The part was ordered and delivered to the house and he gave an explanation about another person getting the part to fix the freezer. Overall he was good.

He fumbled constantly with his laptop computer and had to get help with how to use it more than once. And, I should have known better, but I took him at his word that he would return on 5/28/09 to do the install. I have been waiting, and i have gotten in contact with GE. I have been moved to 6/1/09. No one told me I had been moved. I will now loose another day of work. Do not bother talking to GE service. All they can do is recite scripts. They do not care that GE dropped the ball, and they do not think they should step up and do the right thing, even if that meant working late to install my pump.
Description of Work: Tech came out and checked our Profile Washer. He determined the water pump was bad. He had to order the pump, which he had drop shipped within two days at my home. He left promising me he would return Thursday next week to install the pump.

Absolutely the worst customer experience I have ever had. I was scheduled for a Tuesday appointment between 8AM and 12PM. "Andrew" from GE called me on Tuesday morning to tell me the technician called in sick and he would have to move my appointment to Thursday. No biggie. I told Andrew that I couldn't work from home another 1/2 day waiting for service so he promised mine would be the first stop for the technician between 8AM and 8:30AM. At 9:45 AM on Thurs I called GE Appliance Services and was put on hold for 8 minutes. The call was then dropped. Again, stuff happens so I called back and reached "Tracy" who advised me to report the no show problem to Consumer Relations. When I asked why Consumer Relations she said the complaint would be taken more seriously and they could get the tech on the phone. She transferred me and after several prompts I was connected to Antonio in the Contract Services Dept. Antonio was belligerent and should not be working in any customer department. He would not listen to my concerns and constantly interrupted to repeat a well-worn script that the "technician would be at my home between 8am and 12 pm." When I asked if he could at least require the tech to call me he said no, he could only "request" the tech to call me. When I asked who manages the tech's, he said he didn't know. When I told him it was unacceptable that my appointment would be canceled on one day and not kept on the next he interrupted yet again. When I tried interrupting him he said "Thank you for calling GE" and hung up. I called back and talked with a woman named "Shareeka" who said she was a manager. She repeated the "between 8am and 12pm" script and offered to transfer me to Antonio's manager. By that time I had had enough of GE! Bottom line - GE does not have an escalation process and doesn't have a clue on how to train its people in customer service.
Description of Work: No services performed. GE canceled warranty service call, has not kept promised rescheduled appointment. Service tech is now on his way, but no repair made could make up for the shoddy customer treatment I received.

During the Christmas holidays the microwave began to make odd noises. It suddenly would turn off but after a few hours would turn on again and be ready for use. Since we visit our home every few weeks I waited until my next visit in late January. Called GE Appliance Service toll free number. They were courteous, took all information and gave me a day when the repair would take place. They called me with an automated confirmation system the evening before. I was told that the service person would call 30 minutes prior to their arrival somewhere between 8am and 5pm. I left the condo and received a call from the repairman saying he was in my development but I was 20 minutes away. He went to another call and then returned to my condo. I explained the problem over the phone to him with the microwave. He arrived, was pleasant and knowledgeable. He warned me that there was $79 service charge to come in and check the microwave plus labor and parts. Now this is an expensive under counter microwave so I agreed. He did warn me that their would be labor charge of $110 as well. I really had no choice since we needed the microwave to work, would cost over $500 to replace and was leaving the following day. Well the entire diagnosis of problem, replacement of part and testing to make sure it was working appropriately took less than 30 minutes.

It is only a year old they have problems. The service man that came to do the repair did not know how to fix it.
