Bought a brand new GE washing machine, which did not properly rinse nor get the clothes clean. Was told that there was nothing wrong with the machine. Several days later, was told they would not warranty the machine. Will never buy another GE appliance again.
Description of Work: Bought a brand new GE washing machine, which did not properly rinse nor get the clothes clean. Was told that there was nothing wrong with the machine. My mother was in tears because the stupid machine did not work properly.

They were also very conscious of that fact that they had the GE name. I thought they were reasonably priced. I did not feel like I was paying for a lot of extra money for the service, they also gave me a 5 year warranty of that part. They had done a nice job.

I purchased the appliance through another company but it is GE that I have been dealing with. I have had a serviceman out twice. I’ve called them probably four times. They’ve sent me the wrong ice bucket three or four times. They have needed to replace the board, and on the second occasion a few weeks later, they had to replace some kind of evaporation unit. I am now dealing with the fact that the ice maker is broke. The serviceman has supposedly fixed it the last time. All these experiences have happened in approximately a year of purchase. It was expensive. I have asked them to replace it and they have refused. Now they say that it is over a year and that I have to deal with the extended warranty through the company that I bought the appliance from. I pointed out to them that they never fixed the problem during the warranty period but they don’t care. I would not use them in the future.

Called them on Friday afternoon and they came out Saturday morning to diagnose a GE Arctica that was not cooling. I had no paperwork to prove when the appliance was purchased which put me just barely (a week or two) outside the warranty window based on the manufacture date. The service man was great! Even without the paperwork to prove the date of purchase, he logically deduced that it was highly unlikely that my refrigerator was in service quickly enough after the manufacture date for the refrigerator to actually be out of warranty. (We were only about two weeks past the 5 year mark based on the manufacture date). So, he was able to install a new compressor for us under warranty. This would have been about $600 if I had been required to pay for it. It was great to see that GE warranteed their product even though they had a way to get out of it! Thanks GE!

The folks from GE ordered the part. Had it delivered to my house. then they showed up 3 days later and did the installation. Quick and painless

GE Service Repair called (September, 2009) to service leaking GE Monogram D/W. Service person came and replaced a couple of gaskets. He also tried to sell us an extended service contract and told us we needed some new water filters for our refrigerator at a cost of $75.00 (What?) GE charges $79.95 to walk through your front door. That doesn't include the price for labor and parts. We ended up spending $300.00 for a "service" (sales) call on our dishwasher which still leaks. By the way, the other day we came home to an electrical burning smell which turned out to be the dishwasher. Shut it off, called GE Repair service who said it would cost $79.95 to send out a GE "certified professional" (i.e., salesperson) to investigate the problem. That doesn't include parts/labor. The dishwasher's 5-year warranty on the electronic control module expired about two months ago (of course). Won't ever buy or recommend another GE (GarbagE) product again. We're using Angie's List to find a local repair person who will fix it right and won't be making expensive recommendations for parts we don't want or need.

Overall, I was surprised by what I was told by the GE factory tech. He told me that their frontloaders normally leak-no defect. That they normally rust at the bottoms, after only a couple months. That they are meant for only concrete, first floor rooms with drains, so that when they (normally) leak, the water has somewhere to go. My salesman or warranty, or book said nothing about this. Another thing (Important). They only test the unit empty (with water). I had more leaking after that. When he came out and tested it without clothes in it, he could not find anything. The frontloading washers are trouble, and you need a good warranty to cover them or you will regret it. Both Sears and GE have told me this. Personally I think GE is told not to deal with bad quality, just break/fixes. They can fix it well if they can find the break. They are neat, professional, etc., but buyer beware, and if your salesman says something, get it in writing, or it is not the truth. If you don't get satisfaction, find their boss, or higher until you get what you paid for. Also, I highly recommend that you never buy from someone who does not offer their own, or their Factory warranty, as a lot of them are fly by night, and you will be sorry. Also check for your vendor's complaints on the Internet before you shop.
Description of Work: I used the Factory Warranty provided bt GE (1yr. part & Labor). The Front loading GE washer was leaking through the bottom, and around door seal. The Tech came out and checked it completely, and found a broken detergent cannister at the top of the unit, and replaced/tested it.

My icemaker popped a diverter for the water, resulting in leaking water on the drawer glide of the freezer. the water froze, making it unable to pull open. I was out of warranty, but spoke with customer service. She was very nice, agreed to cover it under warranty, sent out a repairman at 8am the next day. He couldn't have been more prompt, professional or competent. very pleased.

It was a good experience. It was expensive, but it was reliable. You call them and they subcontract the work. They showed up when they said they would. I could have probably found it cheaper, but it was important for me to have the repairman show up when they said they would show up. I realized I paid more for that. I would consider using them again if the company that I found since then wasn't available.

We built a new house in 2007 and chose GE Monogram appliances throughout. About 13 months after they were in service, three needed repairs. All were out of warranty. The cook top was repaired successfully. He couldn't find anything wrong with the frig (2 tries), and the microwave had a circuit board replaced. I complained that I had much cheaper appliances for decade with never a problem, but I buy these very expensive ones, and they crap out after a year. Very frustrating. The repair man was professional and courteous throughout. My complaint is with the product, not the service, I guess.

Scheduled on-line. Very easy. He called when he was on his way. Showed up and quickly fixed the problem. Microwave works fine. Only reason I wouldn't use again is because it was crazy expensive. I'll try a local repair place next time.
Description of Work: My microwave was not working. This is a built-in microwave combined with a wall oven. They came out and replaced a $15 part. He spent more time swiping my credit card than replacing the part. The labor was $190.

Job was not completed do to our refusal to let them complete the work. This was a simple water control valve assemble on the Fridge and would have taken about 10 minutes to fix. Their price was $235 which is outrageous!!! Net result is I have fixed it myself getting proper part for a repair parts store for $47.
Description of Work: Serviceman did come as scheduled. We did not allow him to do the work as the price to install a $65 part on the refridgerator was $235...rediculous!!! We were charged an $85 service call. No estimate of the job was provided to us prior to their arrival...so once you call them you are at their mercy.

I just called these folks because I have a GE refrigerator and microwave that are both on the fritz - just on the other side of a 5 year limited warranty. Big shock there. So, not only are they not covered under warranty (two MAJOR appliances that should certainly be reliable enough to last longer than 5 years without buying a new one), but they tell me they only schedule service from 8am-5pm. My wife and I work for a living and can't afford to be sitting at home all day waiting for a repair man - we can scarcely afford the service call itself! So I asked if he could come out at 8am at least, so I could get to work late if necessary...and she tells me they don't schedule that way. It's a time RANGE...so I'd be guaranteed a time between 8am-12pm. Not very helpful, or convenient. So I called another service provider with service hours that better accommodate my schedule and will report back on that experience soon. As for GE, your products are horrible and you couldn't make it less convenient to get them repaired. I'm done with your company.
Description of Work: Refrigerator not working and microwave broken. Need both serviced ASAP.
