Ron was FANTASTIC! He was kind and courteous on the phone, even though I had forgotten our first appointment and he came by to an empty house. He scheduled me in again as soon as possible, and was conscientious about our home and kitchen. He laid cardboard down over the stove (which was under the microwave) to prevent it from getting dirty or scratched. He not only fixed the microwave quickly and had the part on hand, but he also took the time to make sure it was set up and installed correctly, fixing things we never would have known about if he hadn't noticed them while the unit was off of the wall. And because the unit was new, we didn't have to pay anything - it was covered under warranty!
Description of Work: New HotPoint microwave was shorting out - I would start heating something up, but after running for a couple of seconds, it would quit and the screen would light up. It would stay completely lit up until I hit the off button. I called the 1-800 service number and they sent a technician named Ron out to service the microwave. I missed our first appointment and called him directly on his cell phone, and he was kind enough to come back later in the week. After testing the unit, he took it off of the wall (it is an under-cabinet mount unit) and replaced a part, which he had on hand. Not only that, but he switched the direction of the fan blowers (they were pointed the wrong way), and he installed the wall bracket for the microwave so it would be more stable.

We had set up an in home appointment with this company and they were right on time. We even had them call to make sure we were home when they were supposed to be there. We were very pleased with how fast he diagnosed the problem. He was quite personable and friendly. We were especially happy when he let us know that it was all covered under warranty. It would have cost us about $250 for the entire bill.
Description of Work: We had General Electric come out and do an in home repair of our new electric range when the oven stopped working. They had to replace the heating coil element in the oven when it burnt out.

Bought a new microwave rather than paying the same for a service call.
Description of Work: In February 2004, we remodeled our kitchen adding GE Profile dishwasher, ceramic cook top, convection oven, and microwave. Last week the microwave stopped working, evidently the magnetron went out. The warranty is 10 years on the magnetron so we called for service. The service rep told us that the service call would cost $64.50 plus labor of at least $80.00, plus any parts other than the magnetron. A brand new microwave only costs $169 at Home Depot. The 10 year warranty is a fraud and totally useless. Why should a person pay more for a service call on a supposedly warranted item than the cost of a brand new microwave (same model). GE should be ashamed of this far.

A repairman arrived within a day to repair the icemaker. A leaking waterline was the cause. The waterline was replaced and it is now working.

This is the second service for this oven using this company in the past year. The first time they replaced the electrical panel (not under warranty) and they seemed to do a fair job, although the cost was expensive. It has not worked well since, and after purchasing an oven thermometer and figuring out that it was running 30 degrees low, we called again. The charge was $230 to recalibrate the thermostat, which they evidently did not do correctly the first time. After complaints they refunded $75 of the fee.
Description of Work: Service was for the repair of double ovens in my kitchen.

I arranged for this repair using General Electrics automated repair request form as found on the company's web site. I experienced no problem with the system and the repair technician arrived on the scheduled day and at the specified time. He identified and repaired the problem and showed me how I could remove the spray arm and remove foreign matter myself if the problem occurred in the future.
Description of Work: My GE/Hotpoint built in dishwasher was not adequately cleaning dishes, glasses, and utensils after the wash cycle ended. The items were left with dirt residue on them. The service technician analyzed the problem; 'foreign matter in the lower spray arm' and removed it, fixing the problem.

Experience was totally unsatisfactory. When we phoned for service, we told them exactly what was wrong. Repair person arrived a week later without part. He ordered part. Part was delivered by UPS in about 4 days. Had to wait several more days for repair person to come back to install. The circuit breaker broke when he tried to turn power back on. He said he was not allowed to replace circuit breaker so we had to hire an independent electrician to replace breaker. We gave the service man a check and he marked our bill PAID. GE has dunned us saying bill was not paid. We now have to send xerox copies of or bank statement to GE to prove that the payment was made and the check has cleared.
Description of Work: Replaced burned out electric heating element in wall oven.

The GE repairman, Sean, called to ask if he could arrive early for the appointment. He replaced several parts in my microwave and spent more time than he anticipated before determining that he did not have the part required to complete the repair. He said that he would have the part shipped directly to me and would return in one week to complete the repair. The part arrived in two days via FedEx. Sean arrived one week later to complete the repair and finished within one hour. At no time during the entire repair process did Sean become agitated or complain about a repair that was taking longer than he anticipated. The microwave has worked fine since the repair was finished.

I was up and ready for the repairman to come. He never showed up. I called a couple times and was told he would be there, that he was coming. He never did show.

THEY CAME OUT RIGHT AWAY. THE REPAIRMAN HAD SOFTWARE ON HIS COMPUTER THAT HAD THE HISTORY OF OUR STOVE FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. HE COULD ORDER THE PART WHILE HE WAS THERE, AND IT WAS LOADED ON HIS VAN FOR REPAIR THE NEXT DAY.
Description of Work: MY STOVE IS AN OLDER MODEL GAS STOVE, AND IT WOULD NOT LIGHT, ONLY CLICK. IT WAS MISSING A TINY PIECE THAT ALLOWED THE IGNITER TO LIGHT THE BURNER.

The serviceman from GE Company came to my home on schedule and was very pleasant. He took the stove apart and quickly diagnosed the problem and promptly replaced the ignition switch on my oven. He did a very nice job and the area in my kitchen was cleaned well.
Description of Work: The oven on my gas stove did not work at all, the serviceman from GE Company came out and repaired the ignition switch under the oven.

They did a great overall job. We didn't know what was wrong but they figured it out quickly. They were very polite and worked really hard to get my oven back up and running again. They did the work in a timely manner.

They showed up on time to look at my dryer and they already had the part that was needed to fix it. The repair man was polite and he was careful not to scratch the dryer. He explained to me how the board worked and I would definitely hire them again.

Our dishwasher wouldn't come on and GE sent someone out within a few days. The worker was able to repair it on the spot in about 30 minutes and didn't charge for the part, since it was under warranty. It works fine now.

It only took a few minutes to replace the live electrical line. He used extreme caution and not only in completing the job but insuring that it would stay as well. I felt they did a good job here.

I then called Landers 410-682-3232 and they could be out next day at ($74.95.) I cancelled the GE appointment.
Description of Work: I have a ten year old GE washing machine. While it extracted water it wouldn't spin (belts burning.) Called GE to schedule appointment (Cost is $79.95.) They couldn't schedule for four days then 1-5. Tried to get a morning appointment for the following week (11 days later) they could have given me either 1-5 or 8-5. They have no appointments available for 8-1!

The man that came out was very knowledgeable and was prepared to fix just about anything that was wrong with it. I think they are very trustworthy, and do a good job on getting things fixed in a timely manner.

I have used GE before and have had good results but this time was not so good. The man that came to look at my fridge took very little time checking it. He cleaned up everything and then told me that it was normal to make that noise. I was very upset because I know this noise is not normal and it is very loud. He said there was nothing else he could do and left. I had to call the company again to send someone else out and am still waiting for them to come.
Description of Work: I had them look at my refrigerator when it started making a really weird humming noise. It was still under warranty.

It was very easy to get a hold of GE to come fix the microwave. What I didn't like is that I had to pay a $70.00 service fee which was my part of the pro-rated warranty especially when the man was in my house less then five minutes and said the microwave was not repairable. I even bought a new microwave from them and they would not waive the service fee which I didn't think was right being the man did nothing but look at it for a minute or so.

I was very pleased with them as I have used them several times. Each time that I have used them, they have sent the same guy so I was comfortable with their repair service. The guy knew what he was doing and ordered the part right away with a hand held computer that he had. He came back with the part a few days later, and got the repair done.
Description of Work: He replaced some minor part in my refrigerator because it was freezing around the vegetable drawers.

They had to come twice because it needed a special part, but once they finished the job, it's been working fine ever since. We had bought the dishwasher originally from General Electric. It was under warranty.
