They came for an estimate initially. They came back soon after for the additional work including caulking. They indicated I needed to do some insulation which they were going to come back for but they never did. They did a good job and overall I was satisfied.

Terrific work in a difficult location and heat! Basement insulation was delayed due to equipment failure. Took several days for the office to make contact to reschedule. Once job was scheduled, everything was completed quickly. The installers completed the job and took the initiative to complete a portion of the basement in a very hard-to-reach area.
Description of Work: Initial visit included insulation of the attic-did a great job!

The guy showed up when they said he would, actually a little early, which worked out better for me because of my work schedule. He visually inspected the area, measured it off and gave me some recommendations that I had not thought of. He gave me a written estimate on the spot which was better then I was expecting, so I will use their service next month.

Very professional audit and a very thorough, excellent report. Still thinking about doing work suggested by the audit because of the long break-even, pay-back period for insulation. I was very pleased with the audit and will definitely use Energy Savers if I decide to have the work done. My son had work done by the same company and has been very pleased with the improved comfort in areas of his home that were previously too cold or too hot.

To start off with, let me state this, I rated the experience with this company with a "C" for Fair, for one reason only, and that was because the General Contractor for Energy Savers, Brandon Glover, decided not to cash the check for the work provided, which did not meet the industry standards for workmanship, delivery or customer satisfaction. However, because Energy Savers admitted to having neglected this project by not accepting payment for the materials or labor, they were "Fair", however, this did not come without having taken a toll on me, for feeling like I was being taken advantage of, for being naive. Naive, in the sense, that I trusted that the company, which goes by two different names, in Energy Savers, LLC or also KY Energy Pro (Heating and Air Conditioning), would stake more in ensuring that their reputation doesn't get tarnished, more so, than making a quick buck, or so that was my perception of the company for more than 85% of the time in which I was working with them under contract. Naive to the fact that I believed that when I plan to spend $2616.45 on some HVAC work, that when we verbally agree upon some work to be completed, that I don't need to turn around and write it down on paper and get signatures to ensure that it is ACTUALLY completed in the manner discussed... That is a BIG point for me.. I just couldn't believe when stories change as the project was underway, how it would be considered acceptable, by their installation crew, to make changes and move forward in a different direction than how the contract was written, without prior approval from the homeowner. (Hence, I now have a kitchen exhaust fan that is NOT centered in any way on my kitchen ceiling..) Naive, in the sense, to expect the installers to actually read the installation instructions and complete the work according to the owners manual. When you find that shortcuts were taken to speed up the project, it tends to cause frustration. (Hence now I have a Kitchen Exhaust Fan that has mounting brackets that were half-way installed, partly because the single bracket installed, was installed upside down.. Hmm..) And considering the companies name is Energy Savers, you would think that they would be looking out for the homeowner in ways, where they would be saving the homeowner money by sealing any and all gaps between the living space and the attic, to prevent loss of conditioned air to empty unused space. Well, at least that was not my experience. My situation involved multiple cases where the finished work was left half-way completed. (HVAC Supply Duct work, didn't get completed as discussed) Naive, in the sense, that I am not a general contractor myself, therefore, unaware of the proper steps to take to ensure that the project is completed with my safety in mind. Note to all Homeowners: Projects that involve Electrical work on a home residence, should always include pulling an Electrical Permit with the city, to ensure that a Certified Electrical Inspector approves of the electrical work being done, thus ensuring the home occupants safety from potential fire hazards. Naive to think that Energy Savers would actually subcontract out the work to capable Electricians who care about doing a good job, or at least completing the work to NFPA 70E Code. Naive, in the sense, that I expected the point of contact/general contractor, Brandon Glover, would care enough about the homeowners opinion and time, to respect them enough to show up for appointments on time or even at all. Cancellations can be expected at times, which should be confirmed/cancelled as soon as possible, rather than 45 minutes after the scheduled meetings, in which we were to review the installation issues/concerns. And then after the Third Cancelled Appointment, it was in my best interest, that I propose terminating the contract with this company. Thankful that Brandon Glover, Energy Savers, were willing to void the check that I sent to them to pay for materials only, because I will now be contracting another company to come back through to fix the specific issues that I would have had Energy Savers address, which I cannot speak to, because I was more interested in terminating the contract than inviting anyone associated with Energy Savers back into my home. Therefore, I would not recommend them to anyone who isn't a unemployed general contractor who can stay home and watchdog the subcontracted installers. This was not an easy experience, because I honestly felt like Brandon cared about doing a good job, however, Energy Savers, in general, might need to find some more trustworthy subcontractors to work with, because they really did them a disservice on this project. Also Note: 1. The Vapor Barrier was not completed at all. 2. The wrong size exhaust fan was installed in the kitchen. (Installed 70CFM, instead of 110CFM for a 10'x10'x8' size kitchen) 3. The kitchen exhaust fan was the wrong type for spot ventilation in a kitchen setting. 4. No Voids in the polyurethane attic joist spray foam were ever sealed at the roof deck 5. Debris/Trash from the HVAC Supply Duct was left for homeowner to cleanup in attic space. 6. Homeowner will have to hire additional contractors(installers & electricians) to address most of the work provided again.
Description of Work: Contract, as written: HVAC, Supply: Remove existing supply duct located in attic space Install correctly sized metal trunk and leads Seal all connections with duct mastic Seal voids in polyurethane @ roof deck Return Duct: Seal connections with duct mastic located in crawl space Vapor Barrier - 6mil, poly, black *wrap foundation supports/seal seams Install: Broan, 70CFM bath exhaust fan *vented to outdoors Install: Whisper Ventilation Fan *centered within kitchen area/vented to outdoors

Response from Energy Savers LLC
This response will reiterate the past several conversations we have had concerning this matter. Work contracted consisted of: 1. Removing the existing “heat only” duct, that was in the enclosed (unintentionally conditioned) attic space and replacing it with a correctly sized supply trunk / leads. This change was recommended due to inadequate air-flow throughout the home. 2. Replacing the existing bath exhaust fan with a new bath exhaust fan and venting it to the outdoors. This change was recommended due to the fact that the existing bath fan did not work and, had it been working, it was venting into the enclosed attic space. 3. Install spot ventilation at kitchen/utility room area. This install was recommended to supplement existing ventilation in order to negate condensation build-up at the ceiling area. 4. Fill voids in existing polyurethane spray foam at roof deck and complete existing vapor barrier at crawl space. This recommendation was made due to the fact that another contractor, sometime in the past, did not properly install these two materials. The heat-only ducting was removed to the fitting above the plenum and correctly sized duct was installed to meet 2012 IECC standards. (A standard that exceeds current building code.) Air-flow at each register through-out the home was verified by an air-flow meter post-install and complied with intended design. The fitting at the plenum was not removed due to the fact that a previous contractor completely spray foamed it into the roof-line and its location was not initially visible. Due to the furnace location and low laying roof system, removing that piece of duct would have caused more damage than benefit and these circumstances would require re-installing the exact same fitting. Admittedly, this was a change from our initial discussion, however, it was unforeseeable at that time. However, in terms of effect, this change had absolutely no impact on the goal of balancing air-flow through-out the conditioned space. The bath exhaust fan was installed and vented to the outdoors, as specified in our contract. Your interpretation of Building Code is misplaced, in that, Code does NOT require a contractor to pull a permit when simply exchanging an existing apparatus such as a bath fan nor is a GFCI required at this location. The spot ventilation fan installed in the kitchen area was centered to the existing cabinets and can lights. Centering to these existing objects does leave the fan 1.5 inches off center to the kitchen walls, a distance that is only detectable with a tape measure. You nor your girlfriend were available to my technicians in order to approve the decision to adjust this measurement, so I approved it. It was a decision that needed to be made at the time. My reasoning was that it would have been very noticeable being placed off-center to the cabinets and can lights. In other words, its current placement was/is the most aesthetically pleasing location. Given the same circumstances today I would make the same decision over. Secondly, with respect to building code, an electrical permit is not required when an existing circuit at the panel is being utilized as in this case; a GFCI is not required unless the equipment is in a damp location. Neither the bath exhaust fan nor the supplemental ventilation fan met this requirement. FYI, building code requires a range hood to have a RATED 100 CFM capacity, not a supplemental ventilation fan. Today’s recommended indoor/outdoor air exchange is x7. (ACH = fan capacity x 60 / cubic ft. of area being vented) Simply put, that particular fan’s CFM will achieve 5.25 ACH. Only after the confrontations incited by you and your girlfriend, my technicians were not confident in what to do or not to do and, admittedly, did not fill-in the existing voids in the foam at your roof deck or complete the vapor barrier at your crawl. I did not at that time nor am I now making excuses for these two over sights, but I did attempt to correct them after they were brought to my attention. You suggest that I simply or intentionally have stood you up multiple times, which is not exactly true. You have asked me to meet you at your home, however the only choice of appointments you allowed have either been at or after 7:00 pm, or on a Sunday afternoon. My work hours are somewhat flexible but I, too, ask for a little reasonableness. You have also suggested that a mistake was made by “not sealing the gaps between the living space and attic.” This is another misplaced interpretation. As you and I discussed, you had your roof deck insulated with spray foam by another contractor. This causes your attic space to be considered a conditioned space and those “gaps” are supposed to allow air-exchange between the two spaces in order to prevent moisture issues in the attic space. My offer was to correct the issues my technicians overlooked, but you declined. After long and critical consideration I chose to completely refund your money, not because the work was not completed in a professional manner but because I did make a judgment call without your approval (only when it had to be made and you were not available). Unfortunately, you did not agree with my call and I thought, in the spirit of fairness, it was better to walk away than to have an upset customer. We, as a company, stand behind our work and we do our absolute best in everything we do. I regret you feel that you have been “naïve.” I do not believe you are naïve only unreasonable.

They did this work, but my soffits were rotting out and I was looking to have those fixed and I was considering enclosing all the soffits in aluminum. He did a very good job with the service. He found that a vent going into our attic from our furnace was full of insulation and we had not been getting air from that and it could have caused carbon monoxide. I appreciated him finding that as our heating companies had not found that issue. He found in the crawl space that all the insulation was installed upside down and it has not done any good. He said spider box was installed and it was a way for the installing company to save money. He was very thorough and he was prompt. He answered any questions that I had, I was happy with the service. I do intend to use this company in the future.

The ad said that after I paid the money to have them come out and do an evaluation that they would call me within 48 hours, but I had to contact Angie's List after about a week and a half and Angie's List had to send them an e-mail saying that I had not been contacted. Then after that, it was another week and finally I called them myself and they said we've been trying to get a hold of you and we got no answer. I don’t know what the deal was with that because when I filled the info online, they had my telephone number. Anyway, they did come out here and they guy who did the evaluation was great. They came out here on-time and did the work. I had a problem afterwards because there were some opening on the other side of the attic and while they were blowing in insulation, it all blew in on the other side and they never went back over there to look at it, so we had to clean it up twice and then they finally came out and put a piece out there to block it.

EnergySavers representatives examined both the furnace and attic areas and provided its assessment of ways to improve energy loss, recommending the installation of rafter baffles, more blow-in insulation to increase the R-value, and sealing leaks around various spots in the attic such as recessed lighting pots, fireplace flue, vents, etc., and also sealing duct leaks in the furnace room. They removed the existing flex duct work. Installed the rigid metal duct work off the furnace to help force the air to be more evenly distributed without the house. They also sealed all of the areas where cold air could enter the house through the attic before blowing more insulation into the attic to make sure an even coverage was left after all of the work. The two teams were very respective and made sure to clean up after they were completed. They even called to let me know they were on their way back from lunch. Brandon was in contact with me a couple times through the whole process to make sure I understood exactly what was going to be done and to make sure I was satisfied. He did give me some additional pointers to help make sure the house stays as even temperature. In theory, the work completed should help make sure all bedrooms are consistent temperature. But since the work was just completed today, it remains to be seen if everyone is comfortable in the coldest weather in 20+ years coming within the next couple of days.
Description of Work: After conducting the inspection of the attic, they determined my problem was not the lack of insulation in the attic but terribly installed duct work. The builder had used flex duct but it was not pulled tight and they had run lines into junction boxes and then another junction box.

The provider came out and did their energy audit and provided a report with suggested services. The audit seemed thorough, and the representative (Brandon) seemed knowledgeable and ready to be helpful. In fact, he came back out to the house to walk through the findings in some detail. The major hangup is the price of the recommended services. I have not checked into a second quote yet for the services, but the cost quotation from Energy Savers overshot my range of expectations by a decent margin.

The end result of everything was good. Our house seems to have a much more consistent temperature from room-to-room and our vaulted living room is much more comfortable. However, getting there was an adventure. The energy audit went well and Brandon was very knowledgeable and answered the many questions I had at that time and after the audit. The guy who did the duct work was all right, he was friendly, but came unprepared and had to make two trips to Home Depot (after I gave him directions) so he could get the pieces he was missing. He also kept asking to do things differently than what was specified. We also had to tear down the ceiling in one of our basement closets in order to access the main trunk. It was not a big deal, but I wasn't aware that we were going to have to do that beforehand. The main issues came with the scheduling of the spray foam insulation. They called me saying they may have to reschedule my appointment but would call to confirm. I never received a call and didn't find out until half-way through the next day that no-one was coming to my house. On the day we rescheduled, I received a call letting me know they had to finish up a prior job and would be there immediately after. After hearing nothing all morning, I called to see when I should expect someone. Long story short, no one showed up at my house until 3:00 pm. They worked until about 7:00, but it felt like I had wasted another day. I also learned on this day that the crew at that time did not have the proper equipment to fill the cavity between our vaulted ceiling and roof-line. I had to make several phone calls to make sure this was done correctly, and I'm afraid what I would have ended up with if I hadn't been so proactive. We scheduled the third attempt far enough in the future so that they could get the appropriate equipment (nozzle tip) for above our vaulted ceiling. This time, I received no phone call in the morning. I ended up calling late in the morning to see why no one was there yet. They were again finishing another job and did not arrive until mid-afternoon. I had to lend tools to assist in removing insulation from the cavity between the vault and the roof line. I also proactively removed the soffit on the outside of the house so I could look up to the attic. This revealed that they were not removing all the insulation from the top and we had to open up the soffit all along the width of the vaulted ceiling so we could pull insulation out from below. They were then able to spray insulation from above and below to fill the whole cavity. They managed to finish the work by working until about 9:00 pm. While I love the difference the spray foam has made in our home, the process was very painful. Apparently spray foam is a very finicky process and the equipment had problems a couple times which caused backups and rescheduled work to interfere with my appointments. I can understand that, but was furious with the lack of communication. I had to take time away from work so I could be home on four different days for what should have been a two day task (1 day for duct work, 1 for insulation). When things were delayed, I didn't receive any communication the night before or even the morning of. I was never given any sort of estimated arrival time and had to call the office to find out what was happening on numerous occasions. Most of the time the office couldn't tell me the current status of their crew and had trouble contacting them because they were working around noisy equipment and couldn't hear their phone ringing. Overall, I feel like I would have had a much better experience if there was better communication from this company. I would have even preferred to reschedule my appointment in advance if I knew it would have meant that I was the first place the crew would go in the morning and that they would be able to get everything done in a day.
Description of Work: We had an energy audit done and after the audit recommendations were made, we had some duct-work redone, sealed some ducts, and applied spray-foam insulation to the roof and crawl space.

We got them off of Angie's List. We had purchased a big deal of 50 Dollars off. The experience was positive, and the quote was the best that we got from several companies. They did a spray foam kind of insulation. I would commend them on their taking time on the quotation process, explaining everything and doing the job of time efficiency and energy efficiency.
Description of Work: We used Energy Savers for insulation.

I thought they did a wonderful job. They arrived within the 1 hour window the provided me on a Saturday morning (3 days after I called to confirm that I wanted them to do the work). They were very good about setting up tarps on the floor to keep their traffic areas clean. They used a gas-powered generator to power their blower, so they DID NOT hook into my electrical panel. They allowed me to go up in the attic and check their work before they blew in the insulation, and I must say they did an excellent and thorough job. They cleaned up nicely and were in and out in about 4.5 hours. The past couple of days we have definitely noticed a decrease in the amount of time our heater has been running (it's been in the 30/40's at night). Also, our master bedroom used to be an icebox and now it's very comfortable. Thanks Energy Savers!
Description of Work: Sealed air leaks from living space to attic space. Installed baffles to allow proper air flow. installed radiant barrier on all knee walls. Blew in additional 12 inches of insulation.
