Description of Work: They came out and did the line from the pole to the box inside the house. Took about five hours.Called the same day. Great job, great price, great installer, great communication, fast, and very much in line for finding root cause in a short time. I would have them return and tell anyone what a great service they did for me and my home. Five Stars allllll the way. They even gave me a discount for being an old man and an Angie list member.

Description of Work: Called Dr. Electric for unexplained lost power on my porch and in my garage. He was able to tell what was wrong (tripped GFR in garage) over the phone and I was able to fix it myself. Many people would have come out and charged me a service call. He was very nice on the phone and I will definitely use this company for any future electrical problems.

Description of Work: They came out and installed a chandelier for me. They didn't have the correct ladder -- a 12 ft -- on the truck. The electrician promptly went to a big box store, bought one, and put the chandelier up. He was polite and efficient. I love dealing with this company. Try them!

If Dr Electric provides the quality of service and professionalism I recieved you can't go wrong with this service.
Description of Work: I called Dr.Electric after having several terrible experiences with contractors that I had called for other services. It was refreshing to discuss the problem and possible solutions that were offered by Dr Electric; as far as the time he would be available and the price he was charging. I needed 3 pendent lights replaced and I was hopeful that he would have time to replace the electrical outlets and the light switches in my bedroom after finishing the job we actually discussed. The workman called prior to arriving, arrived on time, went right to work and offered to dispose of waste packaging as he completed each step of replacing the pendent lights.I could add lots more details to this but I just need to say this has been the best experience with a contractor I have had in several years.I have a few other larger projects that I now feel comfortable in calling them to complete.Even though Dr. Electric charged less (even alerting me to a coupon that offered a discount) I paid a little more because of the quality of the work.

Called Dr. Electric on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 and asked to have a wall outlet installed in the corner of the basement where none existed at present. This is in preparation for having a water management system installed in the basement next week. A wall outlet is required for the sump pump that is part of this system. (We had a lot of flooding in the basement at the end of April and the 1st week of May.) I was given an estimate over the phone by "Steve" of the cost of the work between $400 and $500. Steve said that an electrician would be there at 9:30 AM the next morning to do the work. An electrician ("Tim") called a little before 9:30 AM the next morning and said that he was on the way; he arrived a few minutes later. Tim discovered that an additional 20-amp line could not be added to the existing breaker box. It was split into two sections; there was no main bus; a couple of circuits were already "twinned" (two circuits on the same breaker) despite the fact that the sticker on the box did not indicate that twinning was permitted with this box, and lastly, there was an FPE (Federal Pacific Electronics) box tied into the main box. Tim told me to look FPE up on the Internet; they are fire hazards. (I did and he was right.) A permit was required for this work and Tim says that it would not be according to code and an inspector would not pass it. The only option was to upgrade the breaker box and then install the new wall outlet.Tim called Steve and relayed the information; then I spoke with Steve and authorized Tim to proceed with the upgrade. Tim cut thepower at 10:30 AM, removed the old breaker boxes, installed the new breaker box, and had the power back on by 2:30 PM despite having to make a run to a nearby store to get some necessary parts that were not in his van. He then ran the new 20-amp line. He was able to route it through the ceiling despite the fact that it was a finished basement and the ceiling was not a drop ceiling. (I was afraid he was going to have to run surface conduit (pipes) across the basement wall just below the ceiling.) He installed the new GFI wall outlet , then checked the breaker for the central AC and the ground connection outside. The breaker for the AC in the old box had been a 40-amp breaker. Tim found that a 25-amp breaker was required and made this change. He also brought the ground wire connection outside up to code. (It was screwed into the conduit pipe that went to the electric meter. Tim told me that you can no longer do that and corrected it to be in accordance with the current electric code.) Next, Tim mapped out the breakers and wrote what each breaker supplied on the sticker on the inside of the box. He then picked up all tools and garbage left over from the installation, both indoors and outdoors. Finally, he asked for a broom and dust pan and swept up the dust resulting from boring into the concrete basement walls to mount the new box and the new wall outlet. I was surprised at that. I was used to contractors making messes and leaving them for me to clean up after they left. Tim left at 4:00 PM; said Steve would be by later with the bill. Steve called a little after 6 PM and asked if it would be okay to come by this evening with the bill or if I would prefer sometime tomorrow. I told him to come on by which he did a few minutes later and I wrote him a check for $1,135.00 which I thought was not bad for all the work that was done.
Description of Work: Old, outdated breaker boxes were removed and a new breaker box with more capacity was installed. A new 20-amp line was run over a finished ceiling (not a drop ceiling) without having to run surface conduit from one corner of the basement to the other and a GFI wall outlet was installed. (Having a sump pump put in next week; needed a wall outlet at that location to plug it into.) The breaker that the central air had been on in the old box was the wrong amperage. This was corrected and the ground connection outside where the electric service enters the house was brought up to code.

I called to see when they could come to replace a timer box and one outlet on my garage. They were able to get to it right away. Very knowledgeable and very professional. The price was exactly what Steve quoted me on the phone even though he had to replace the outlet with one he had. Great price, quality, punctuality, everything. it only took about an hour to complete both jobs, and he was very thorough to make sure everything was done right before he left. You will be pleased with their service. I will definitely be calling them in the future for any electrical needs.

Response from DR.Electric
We took the time to go out and see this Angie's List member, discuss their project and provided a verbal quote. They mentioned getting several quotes. Our company only takes the extra time to put an estimate in writing when the customer approves the project and confirms that we're getting the job. We feel it is pointless to put an estimate in writing before it is needed. It is our experience that a written estimate prior to being awarded a job is usually something that people show other contractors to negotiate a better price. We stand behind our word, our quality of work, our fair pricing and excellent service 100%.

Called Dr. electric about getting electricity run to my newly constructed garage. Steve was very prompt for the initial visit and very professional throughout the job. Steve had to run wiring through a conduit from the house to the garage which was 50 ft away. He wired the entire garage with outlets and a breaker box and even installed two 8 ft double florescent lights for me. I explained that I needed to have a dedicated circuit for my air compressor and he made suggestions on the best way to set this up. I originally called Steve on Friday and discussed my needs with him and he came out the very same day and provided an estimate of the work involved which did not include a material cost. We discussed who would dig the trench for the metal conduit and I agreed to do it myself. I took Monday off from work to stay home and dig the trench and was finished by early evening. I called Steve in the early afternoon and he came by Monday and worked on getting the underground conduit installed. He came by the next day and finished the job.
Description of Work: Needed to run electricity from the house to the garage via an underground conduit. Install 100 amp electrical box and install all outlets and lights.

My first thought when I had an electrical problem was "electricity is dangerous". Dr. Electric was the third company I called. The gentleman I spoke with was able to put my fears to rest over the phone and made his first visit the next day. I feel confident that the high quality of the company's work saved me money in the long run . Dr. Electric's work ensured my safety and that of my family and pets. I appreciate the professional and courteous treatment.

I am a homeowner, who knows basically how to change light bulbs. I want to hit the light switch and get light, so when I began having trouble with this simple process, I had to have help. It can be a daunting task to find a reliable, trustworthy, professional, who is properly licensed and insured, who can be trusted to enter one’s personal sanctum without worry. I was in the position of needing to do just this. My lights had begun dimming intermittently on one side of the house or other, and it was making me just the slightest bit uneasy. Someone had mentioned Angie’s List to me, and I am so glad they did. I was fortunate enough to reach Steve (Dr. Electric). Steve arrived at the hour agreed upon, and I was immediately at ease with his friendly, professional demeanor. After a thorough assessment of my electrical situation, it was discovered that my breaker box was outdated and dangerously subpar. He explained everything to me in terms I could easily understand and made me feel confident that he could put my mind at ease with a complete overhaul of my antiquated electrical system. Steve (Dr. Electric) arrived on the day we agreed on on time and ready to take care of business. He completed all the work, cleaned up when he was finished, and I have lights that work exactly as they are supposed to, which makes me very happy. I feel as though I got a fantastic job for a fair price. I will definitely use Dr. Electric for any further electrical needs in my house, and will recommend him to all my friends. Angie’s List has now become invaluable to me as a homeowner for any future household projects. Thank you Angie’s List and Dr. Electric! I am so glad to have both of you in my problem-solving toolbox!

On the day Steve said that he would start the job, he showed up on time. Steve used his time very efficiently and worked very hard to complete the job in a timely manor. Steve is also very trustworthy. I would open the house in the morning, then go back in the evening to lock up. He treated my home as if it were his. at the completion of the job, all of the basement areas, where most of the work was done, was cleaned very throughly. Steve did all of the work himself, as apposed to having a sales person close the deal, then someone else performs the work. Steve was a very personalable infividual. He was also very up to date on electrical codes, which was very important to me since I am going to sell the house. I would definitely recommend Steve and Dr. Electric to all my friends and family. I have done a lot of work in gettimg my home ready to sell. Painting the entire inside of the house, water proof the basement, refinish the hardwood floors, and have the asbestos tile and mastic removed from the basement. Of all the contractors that I have had to deal with, Steve, of Dr. Electric was the best.
Description of Work: I have been working on my house so that I can put it up for sale. One of the things that I wanted to do to improve the sale of my house was to have my electrical system updated. I contacted three electrical contractrors from Angie's List for price quotes. Dr. Electric provided the most competitive quote. Also after meeting with Steve, I knew that he was the contractor that I wanted to do the work. Dr. Electric upgraded my sysrwm from a 60 amp service to a 100 amp service. This required the installation of a new beraker box, and outside service. They also replaced all of the outlets and switches in the house and basement, installed three lights in the baement with a new 220v dryer plug, and installed three overhead lights that I provided to be installed in one of the bed rooms, the foyer, and the shower.

Dr. Electric was unable to come the first day I called but "Steve" showed up promptly as promised the next day. He was polite and professional. Very knowledgeable. His mother must have done a good job with this guy, he was as polite as my own child. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing a fair, accurate estimate with someone knowledgeable and is able to get the job done. I could have had a serious situation on my hands. Thanks Dr. Electric, for keeping my family and me safe!
Description of Work: Initially I was looking for an electrician to take care of what I thought was a small problem with an outlet. Turns out I had big problems. Dr. Electric came and inspected my wiring, he found that there was a real fire danger going on. Not being an instant believer, I contacted two additional companies for their thoughts, they said Dr Electric was right on target and neither could match his price. My electrical service was replaced, up and running within 36 hours. It was a big job, but worth every penny.
