Description of Work: I contacted Mr. Howard as a second opinion for a continued roof leak I had in my kitchen. The original contractor who put the roof on, had been to my house numerous times since putting on that roof, to deal with the leak. The leak would stop for a period of time, then start again. I decided I needed someone else to fix this problem since it did not appear the original contractor was able to do so. At the initial visit, Mr. Howard noticed a few things right off and fix those for a nominal charge. He discussed with me in detail what he thought I needed to do to fix the roof and told me about what it would cost. His estimate was right where the actual total was. There were a couple things about Mr. Howard that I really liked. One, the day I called to request an estimate, he was donating his time to roofing a habitat house. I like when someone gives back to the community. Second, he told me if he had to replace any wood, and if it was a piece he had at his home that someone gave him, he would not charge me for that because it was given to him. Third, even though he could not fix my roof for a couple of weeks due to a previous job, he called me just as he said he would to let me know he was ready to begin my job. Overall, I found him to be an honest and professional person. PLUS, my yard was cleaned up from all the debri from my roof. Very professional.

+ 0 moreI contacted Kelvin earlier in the summer after several spring rains to look at a leaking chimney. He spent a lot of time with me explaining where he thought it could be leaking and sealed several areas. Did not accept payment for his time or sealing and asked to call him back after several more rains to see if it worked. Called him again later that summer and he quoted a price 2x more than the next contractor but Kelvin gave me the confidence that his recommendations would be more thorough and complete and I did not want to have this work completed again at another time (this is the second time it has had to be flashed). He did the work when he said he would, charged me less than his estimate and replaced shingles on the roof that were missing. He seems to take pride in his work and I am pleased with his work. I am glad that I hired Kelvin and would highly recommend if you want a thorough job completed well.

+ 0 moreKelvin gave us an estimate that was exactly what he charged except for the fact that he had extra material that he had not seen when we settled up. He took it back to the store and called us to tell us that the store would credit us with $551.00. He didn't have to tell us that and we would never have been the wiser. This alone speaks volumes about his work ethic. His estimate was itemized to the number. He and his crew showed up daily, Mon-Sat. at a civilized hour of 9 a.m. and worked almost straight through to 6 p.m. They took minimal lunch and coffee breaks (if they took any coffee breaks). They cleaned up every day so we could use our driveway. At the end, they cleaned everything beautifully. The men were professional. No loud talking or music. I work out of my home so that was important. They even washed my existing sky lights when washing the new ones! I highly recommend this company. We were very pleased with everything. It is not a fun thing to have to pay for or go through but they made it as good of an experience as could possibly be hoped.
Description of Work: Took off 3 layers of shingles and/or shakes. Put on new shingles. Installed new flat roof membrane. Installed new sky lights. Repaired chimney spawling and put new cover on one chimney.

+ -1 moreResponding to the first call, same day although I am about 30 miles from his normal work area. Showed up and took care of it on the spot. No coming back some other time after identifying the problem although he had to make a run to Lowe's for matching shingles. I thought the price was very reasonable and the repairs held. Regarding the second call, it took him a few days to call back and when he did, he was working in my area so I met him within the hour. He apologized for taking so long but there had been no hint of rain and I didn't think it was an emergency. I'm sure if I had asked, he would have come out almost immediately. Again, repairs were made on the spot and at no charge. Mr Howard is very professional and polite. I will absolutely work with him again.

+ -1 moreKelvin is a very well organized person. He sees that work goes according to plan. The shingles and other supplies were delivered by the supply company the day before the work was to begin. He and his team arrived the next day. They worked hard - took few breaks - not like some workmen that I have had at my house. They worked all day and had all but a small portion of the roof finished by the time they left that day. They came back the next morning to finish up. Kelvin and his team, which consists of relatives and people who have obviously worked with for sometime, were very courteous and answered all questions that I asked about the process of tearing off, replacing some wood, putting down felt and then the shingles. They were the best at cleaning up after themselves that I have ever had at my house. The place looked liked no one had been there when they left. I would highly recommend Kelvin Howard and his team to all my neighbors, friends and family.
Description of Work: Kelvin called first after I had left a message on his answering machine and arranged a time to come by and check the roof and talk to me. He came on the arranged day and at the appointed time. He went up on the roof and examined it carefully and made measurements. Then he explained to me what work would be needed to replace the shingles and repair any places on the roof that might be in need of new wood. He was very courteous and explained in a manner that I could understand - I have little knowledge of the art of roofing. He helped me make some decisions about the color of the shingles. He told me what jobs he had in line before me so I would understand why it would be several days before he could get to my roof. He did come back prior to the date for the work to start to bring me a estimate for the materials and the labor involved. He also brought with him samples of the shingles so we could finalize that decision. I gave him a check for the materials as they had to be ordered from a supply place.

+ -1 moreA storm caused some shingles around my chimney to be pulled up and water came in to damage the ceiling in a bedroom. This was caused by a missing piece of plywood that was about a foot square from when the house was built about 19 years ago. It caused this problem about 5 times before and Kelvin was the only one to figure out what was causing it. This was the first time I called Kelvin.
Description of Work: Replaced shingles that were pulled up by a storm and installed a piece of plywood that was allowing the wind to pull up shingles. He also sealed the shingles and corrected a problem with the method the flashing was installed.

+ 0 moreKelvin showed up when he said he was going to, gave an accurate estimate of what needed to be done, and how he was going to do it. Let me walk on the roof with him both before the job, and after the job to show me what he had done. This is an older home that had experienced some leaking around the chimney as well as the rear of the home. The true test will come when the next big rain hits, but Kelvin said if we have any problems to call and he will come and address them. The chimney now looks like new (we had estimates from several people who wanted to replace the entire chimney). Kelvin seems like a very honest, experienced guy and does the work himself. It is a family-run business, which means he answers his phone and responds in a professional, courteous manner. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking at roofing an/or chimney repairs. Overall an excellent experience, and the best part was he came in UNDER his original estimate!
Description of Work: Installed 2 layers of SBS modified membrane, with termination bar against brick wall. Sealed old flashing. Installed new counter flashing around chimney, sealed and painted. Tuckpointed chimney brick from roofline up with mortar seal. Installed new mortar cap around chimney flues and sealed. Sealed pipe flashing around vents on and repaired a few problem areas on roofing. Cleaned up and hauled away all debris.

+ -1 moreThe entire roof job and repairs went very well from start to finish. Extremely excellent service from Kelvin Howard. Kelvin and his worker were very professional, knowledgeable, experienced, trustworthy and friendly. From the first time Kelvin came over to look at what I needed done he was very upfront and honest, and explained everything to me. He made several recommendations that he thought would be beneficial to me on the roof repair. We got up on the roof and went over everything, unlike a few other guys who had came out and quoted me a cost to repair my roof. Kelvin quoted me the best price that was well under his competition. Kelvin went well beyond what was originally quoted and expected on a few items of the repair but didn't raise the cost of the job. kelvin even went out and bought matching paint from Lowe's and painted the soffit repaired area (which wasn't part of the original estimate). After the work was done, Kelvin went over everything with me and showed me exactly what was done during their repair. Kelvin's quality of workmanship is top-notch. I would highly recommend Kelvin Howard Roofing to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone looking to have their roof, chimney, or gutters repaired. Thanks Kelvin!

Inspected several areas. Identified fixes to address the issue and completed work that day. He gave us an estimate in advance of perfoming the work and met the estimate which included replacement shingles. Very satisfied and pleased with the work. Especially pleased with the effort he took to look in attic and around porch area to help us identify issue.

+ -1 moreA few shingles had blown up on our roof. We had known for some time that we would need a new roof this year anyway, so we didn't file an insurance claim. We got three estimates, and liked Kelvin Howard the best (one estimator didn't even go up on the roof). When Mr. Howard was up on the roof to give his estimate, he asked if he could put something over where the few shingles were missing--he said no charge--just to hold it until we got the work done. He provided me with references. I called the one gentleman whose name I recognized from high school (from a very smart Lexington farming family) and he said he wouldn't use anyone else. Mr. Howard wasn't fancy (no matching shirts with logos); he was straightforward and did exactly what he said. He showed up when he said he would for both the estimate and the actual work. Because the roofing day was sunny, he and his crew worked straight through and finished our townhouse roof in one day. Mr. Howard stayed on-site the whole time. The job is beautifully done and we certainly have tested it out with heavy rains in the last couple of weeks. No problems. Oh, and the cleanup was amazing; you couldn't even tell they'd been here. And they protected our air-conditioning unit. We would recommend Kelvin Howard Roofing to our relatives and friends, which is saying a lot.

+ -1 moreI had originally gotten a quote from a company my insurance company recommended. They had grossly overestimated the cost and the squares of the roofing. Being disappointed with them I contacted several other roofing companies. Mr. Howard was one of the few that responded and was very helpful. He was the only one who offered to inspect the roof to make sure that the roof would not leak. When I got a quote from him it was about $1500 dollars cheaper than my quote with the other company and with better shingles. After I decided to go with Mr. Howard, he had several other roofs to finish, but stated if it were going to rain he would at leas temproraily place felt to help prevent leaking. When he started he was efficient and finished in 2 days. Overall, I'd say it took a little longer than I had wished to have the roof be replaced, but I am very satisfied with the workmanship and quality when he got to the job.

+ -1 moreFABULOUS Mr. Howard came out on a Thursday to provide inspect the job, and returned the next day to personally provide the quote...and started the work the following Monday. Not only was the work we asked him to do (remove/replace our shingles) he went above and beyond by applying new mortar to the chimney, identified/rectified the fact that we where missing a rafter under the roofing, and had a roof board that did not reach to the edge of the structure. While his quote was not the lowest, I could not have asked for a more polite team of workers, more thorough in work/clean up, or higher quality workmanship...I would HIGHLY recommend, and higher them again.

+ -1 moreOverall I was very satisfied. I had two very good recommendations of this company - it's really one guy who has a rotating crew of a few men. The only problem I had with this job was that he is so small a business that sometimes it took him a few days or even a week to get back to me - to give me the initial quote, and then once I told him I wanted him to do the job. Part of it was also that it was the busy season (late summer) and he seems to have enough work to keep him constantly busy. Once we agreed on the price, he moved fast. I gave him the money for just the supplies on Sunday and the roof was finished by midday Wednesday. He took pride in his work, he was constantly there on the job with his men. He didn't charge me for all the wood he used - "oh, I had that piece handy." They came early (7:30-8 a.m) and worked late (6 p.m) through some of the worst heat we've had in years. I was impressed with the professional manner of his crew and their expertise.
Description of Work: Kelvin and his crew tore off two layers of old shingles from my roof, put down new felt, an ice guard membrane, and new 30-year shingles. They re-flashed the chimney, installed drip edge around the entire house, replaced the ventilation fan and installed two new vents, replaced any bad wood with new, cleaned and reattached all gutters, cleaned up and hauled away all debris.
