"Home buyers beware: SWAT gets business with lower prices than competitors but do not be fooled. Do not go through with a home closing if the sellers have hired SWAT. Our experience: The radon mitigation work performed by SWAT has been unsuccessful in mitigating the radon in our home which was part of the closing. Since we became owners of the property SWAT have installed a second sub-slab system, added a crawl space vapor barrier, added two additional “taps” to the two sub-slab systems, and changed fans on both systems. Radon piping was visible in every quadrant of the basement; the impact on the finished basement’s aesthetic was significant –and the systems looked very sloppy and cobbled together. Also they chose a location of the first system inches from master bedroom window which was unacceptable for the noise. Despite all this effort the radon readings were still high, 10-13 pCi/L. SWAT concluded the persistent radon levels were due to a “cold joint” in the foundation of the basement, which is an expansion joint (gap) between the concrete slab and the concrete block walls. This cold joint runs along the perimeter of the basement’s outside walls. They recommended sealing off this joint with a flexible yet impermeable material. In order to access the cold joint, the basement walls’ finishing would need to be removed. Before we took this drastic action we decided to get a second opinion from another radon company who is locally owned/operated. They assessed the mitigation systems installed by SWAT and identified several problems including inadequately sealed suction points, pipe joints not glued - see pics, inadequate suction pits dug under the slab, and illegally wired fans. The company indicated they have replaced “dozens” of systems installed by SWAT locally. We have since had work done by the other company and radon levels have been successfully mitigated."

We offer state-of-the-art medical and surgical treatments for many symptoms women face. Our practice includes three board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists, a nurse midwife, and a physician's assistant. These providers, along with the staff work hard to promote a comfortable and caring environment. Dr. Frederick was the first general gynecologist in the state of Kentucky (and in our servic area) to successfully complete the requirements to utilize the Da vinci robotic surgical system. This allows for minimally invasive hysterectomy and pelvic floor surgery that would otherwise require large incisions. We also treat female urinary incontinence, many types of sexual dysfunction, and prolapse of the vagina, uterus, and bladder.

"It went very well! Tim came to the apartment and looked at the issue. He told me that he will place the order for the new and more efficient unit than the old boiler and install asap. Tim's crew came the following Monday to demolish the old boiler and installed the new boiler on the same day. The new boiler was up and running on the same day. It was a smooth startup!"

You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.
Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.
If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.
Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.
In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
