Description of Work: Carpeting our living room and hallway stairs. They did an amazing job on the stairs which have a rolled side edge and open banisters and were truly professional about caring for our walls and wood floors in the process.

Description of Work: I had a pleasant experience choosing the carpet in the showroom and getting all my questions answered. They were patient and very helpful. The carpet and river on time and Rivendell the crew they assigned were very professional and again helpful. The installation went smoothly and I was very pleased overall.

Description of Work: We had our entire upstairs area re carpeted in the fall of 2012. The install went ok, there were a few issues I noted at the end of the install and the contractor said someone would be back that following Monday to finish up the things noted. That Monday came and went, then a month came and went. I had called several times to have them come back out and no one ever did. One of the things I noticed during the install was there was a large seam in the living room visible between two pieces. As time went on the seam was getting worse and worse, then three seams in doorways popped up and looked very bad. So when I called to complain about actual quality of carpet someone came out. That day it was snowing a lot and we had tracked some mud so I cleaned the carpets with a steam cleaner. The older gentlemen and his wife arrived to take a look at the carpet and what was wrong with it. I came out of the bedroom and I asked, "so what do you think?" And his reply was, "Get your dog out of my way and I will find out." Strike one. Then he proceeds to rip up a 5 foot long section the carpet, rendering it useless now, and states the carpet was dilapidated and that wasn't there responsibility. Keep in mind I've had this carpet for 3-4 months. Then he looks at the seems in the three doorways and says the same thing, and I said how could this have happened? And he pointed to my dogs and proceeded to blame them. So I stated that I would proceed to call animal planet and start a show about dogs that "ONLY URINTATE ON SEAMS OF CARPET." He then stated that I waited three months to call him to which I replied that I had called several times before, I then said to him, "boy, you are a real people person aren't ya?" He then left so I called and talked to the owner who was even less of a help than the installer and then to the floor manager, who is the owners son. They filed a claim to the manufacturer which of course was denied. All I wanted was the seams fixed, I even had extra carpet and they would not do one thing to help me and actually made the spot ten times worse by pulling it up then leaving. So I spent $3500.00 for absolutely no reason, I then turned around and spent another $3,000 with home depot and went with hardwood instead. And they were great. I will never ever use Jabara again, and when anyone asks who they have do their flooring I will advise them to not even look at Jabara.

Response from Jabara's Carpet Outlet
Customer alleged Jabara’s Carpet Galerie didn’t fix her seams. The reason we didn’t fix her seams is the carpet was delaminating (back separating from the carpet) at the seams due to excessive moisture from wet cleaning and pet urine. There was nothing wrong with the installation. Frank McGehee, our installation manager, has over 40 years of experience in the industry. When he went to inspect the seams, there were numerous dogs in the house and the carpet was soaking wet. He tried to tell the customer the seams were coming apart due to her dogs and excessive moisture and not due to bad installation, and she became sarcastic with him, so he left the house. After our owner, Tom Jabara, and the manager of the Galerie, Jason Jabara, told the customer the same thing, we offered her the courtesy of having the carpet tested by the mill to make sure there were no defects that would cause it to delaminate on its own. The mill came back with the conclusion nothing was wrong with the carpet (attachment II). The carpet was actually installed on 17 October 13 and the initial complaint was in February of this year. Customer stated that she replaced carpet with wood floor, which suggests to me not only the carpet Jabara’s installed nor any other carpet would stand up under the abuse her dogs were giving it. Also attached (Attachment II) is an informative article by a well renowned carpet expert who specifically states how damaging dog urine is to carpet seams and how they are attracted to them. We strive for customer satisfaction at Jabaras. While I wish I could say we never get a customer complaint, the few we do get are almost always resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. I am sorry this individual was disappointed with our store, but we stand behind our original position on this matter.
