+ 0 morethey showed up on time and proceeded to put out covers for my flooring. I was very impressed with the speed that they took out the old unit and installed the new unit and a return that was not present with my old unit. The only problems I can say were that they didn't cut my carpet right in the locations were new vents were to be installed, didn't clean the old vent locations, or install totally new ducting under the house as promised. All ducting was supported, and installed correctly, but I feel a little mislead. I also had a uneasy feeling as I never saw a project manager or any supervisor come to check on the job, no after call to make sure I was happy and no real owners training on the system other than 3 min in front of the termostat and told to just keep it on temp hold and not use the programmablè feature as they didn't understand how it worked and have a lot of service calls due to it. they took my BRAND NEW termostat and didn't offor to give it back to me either. But without this review sounding totally negative, the house is finally warm and it was only $4756 to get it done. They had the job done in 8 hours for both the a/c and heater and a very nice bunch of hard working men.

I appreciated the candor as well as the option to have it fixed right then or wait until next day during regular business hours which is what I did. Not most inexpensive outfit in town, but have used them for 12 years due to their responsiveness, professionalism, and implementation. Very happy!

They're always very nice, personable and concerned about the safety of their customers. If their is something wrong that could injure the customers, they make sure that they tell their customers how to deal with it until they can come back and fix the problem.

+ -1 moreFahnestock was very responsive and had someone dispatched to my house timely. The technician was very professional and identified the issue as low Freon. He added 1.8 pounds of Freon and checked for leaks. He identified the source of the leak as my evaporator coil. The total bill for the service call was $305. The technician informed me that Freon is expensive, charged on a per pound basis and that they round up. I appreciate the timeliness of addressing my cooling issues (especially due to the high temperatures and that this was right before a holiday weekend) but from my point of view, the service call pricing seemed high. I struggle with paying for Freon I did not receive and the separate diagnostic charge of $75 in addition to the service call and Freon charge. The estimate to replace the bad evaporator coil was 40% higher then the estimate and actual cost to have the evaporator coil replaced by Comfort Systems. There was no credit for any portion of the $305 service call in Fahnestock's estimate.

I left an email before opening hours and recieved a call shortly after business opening.Response was quick and service was provided the same day. Fortunately it was a simple fuse blown. The problem was fixed and the technician double checked everything to make sure he couldn't see anything that would cause the fuse to blow again.

I said and quot;NOand quot; to the question and quot;Would you use this company again?and quot; but I wish there was a and quot;Maybeand quot; option. If we could get Tech #2 or Tech #5, we'd re-hire Fahnestock in a heartbeat. Tech #3 added some freon, and he's the one who located the leak - but then he really didn't have the chance to do any work for us. He was very pleasant and professional dealing with two very frustrated customers. That Early Bird coupon was a real bust for us, because that initial cost led us to believe we were prepared for the summer. Instead, both units broke down: within a week on the rental and within a month on our home residence. Breaking down was bad enough - but then to have two different techs tell us that it looked as though no work had been done? That was really troubling. At the end of the day, we ended up with two working a/c units. But when you look at the date of my first check: April 9, 2012, and the date of our last check May 31, 2012 - it tells you how long the entire adventure lasted. It's tough not to put a slightly negative spin on the experience.
Description of Work: We thought we'd be proactive this year and decided to take advantage of the Early Bird spring coupon for a/c check. We have a rental tenant with severe breathing problems, and we wanted to be sure that property was good to go before the summer heat arrived. We called Fahnestock about having the rental done - but since our own house is close - we asked if they'd have time to stop by our house afterwards. Tech #1 arrived at our house to do the spring check, and spent quite a lot of time running the garden hose on the unit and hooking up the equipment to check freon levels, etc. When he was done and I was preparing to write the check - I asked if this included the rental? He said he had no information on doing another property! I explained that the rental was actually the priority for us - and our instructions were to do the rental, and then do our house if there was time. He walked away briefly to phone in and when he returned, he said, "oh yeah, they're already on their way over there too" I paid for both properties and that was that. About a week later our tenant phoned on a Saturday evening to say the air had gone out at the rental property. Fahnestock promptly sent Tech #2 who ended up spending several hours working on the unit. Tech #2 said it was totally clogged and grimy and it didn't look like anyone had been there before him. We explained our concern for the tenant's health issues, and Tech #2 did an exceptional and careful job for us, even though it was dark outside by the time he finished. We weren't charged for the service, so although we were disappointed for the disruption, we were very happy with Tech #2 and satisfied that the unit was finally in good condition. About 3 weeks later, the a/c went out in our house too! Tech #3 arrived, and said it looked like the unit was very dirty and there must be a freon leak too. He added freon and wanted to charge us, but since the rental episode was still fresh on our minds, we were upset that Tech #1 hadn't cleaned the unit and missed the leak. To us it seemed that we had paid for 2 Early Bird specials and received nothing but frustration as a result! Tech #3 apologized and understood why we were upset and told us he would notify his supervisor about the whole thing. We did some research and found that our unit was still under warranty and Fahnestock was able to perform the warranty work. We didn't want to start all over with another company and be charged again for some of the work, so we allowed Fahnestock to complete the project. A week or two later, Tech #4 and #5 arrived to install a new unit. Tech #4 was really only there at the beginning and a bit during the project, because it took 2 people to move the old unit out and lift the new one into place. Tech #5 did the installation, added freon, double-checked all the work and got things done. He was also a very hard worker and we were satisfied that the job had finally been done properly.
