This business is on time, their people are presentable and the plumbers themselves do good work. However they grossly overcharge, you pay a super premium to use them. PLEASE PLEASE do yourself a favor and get multiple estimates. Even if you pay their service charge for them to come out for inspection, you will be much better off and save alot of money by eating the service charge, not using them and having the work done by someone else. I found this out by using them and feeling like I paid too much. The next time I needed a plumber I called around as I should have the fist time and found out they are super expensive
Description of Work: They were here for 2 visits. On the first the capped my ice maker water valve, on the second they replaced 6 1/4 turn water valves

Benjamin Franklin's rates are extremely high. As an construction manager, I do quite a bit of estimating and buying plumbing services. Benjamin Franklin's rates are excessive. Though they proved punctual, the benefits of punctuality are certainly worth the price of the service. Additionally, you're on the hook for a $49 charge per visit. I would call multiple other providers and read others' reviews if punctuality is your main concern.

I noticed that my hot water heater had gone out and called several plumbing companies BF was the first to call back and say they could come replace it that day. They were professional and had it replaced in about 3 hours. I just felt like the price was rather high compared to other estimates I was given and after talking to other people who had theirs replaced recently. I would have probably gone with another plumber if I wasn't in such a hurry to get it replaced that day.

Literally shocked at the price quote by BFP. As it came to be, the service was performed by another Plumbing service company will over 30yrs experience for 1/4th the cost quoted by 'Ben Franklin Plumbing' co. You don't need MBA in home finance to figure out whom to use in this situation. The other Plumbing company did the job which actually toke <1 hour to complete in which 4 facet cartridges & tiny rubber washer were replaced. So would you rather pay $700+ or $175 for the same service???
Description of Work: Provided quotation to rebuilt 2 facets for 2 basins and 1 spout in kitchen.

FANTASTIC. The serviceman, Victor, was on-time, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. He explained all the options available for our project. He provided pros and cons for various approaches. in the end he helped us make some intelligent decisions. We only changed out the exterior faucet that day. However, we will be bringing them in to handle the tub/shower removal and the installation of a new walk-in shower pan. They also pointed us to Angie's List to find a contractor to handle the tiling of the new walk-in shower. We did find a great contractor to handle the tiling thanks to Victor's suggestion. We have used Ben Franklin plumbing a number times over the years. We continue to return to them because they do great work. They're knowledgable and trustworthy. They have never steered us wrong. They are not the cheapest plumber in town but we believe their expertise is worth a little more.
Description of Work: Provided a quote to remove a Tub/Shower and replace it with a new base for a walk-in Shower. The quote also contained information for removing the existing toilet and replace it with a new premium unit. The quote also covered the removal of an old faucet on the outside of the house and replacement with a premium, no-freeze, faucet.

On a Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as we were about to head out the door we found that the bottom of our water heater had blown out. We call Benjamin Franklin and they had someone there by 5:00 pm. They're technician was professional and courteous, especially considering having to work on a Saturday. He was extremely helpful in outlining what options I had in terms of replacement water heaters and service agreements. As luck would have it he happened to have the exact water heater I'd chosen and replaced it right then an there. Additional to this he also used some of the spare copper pipes I had to reroute the tubing to the de-humidifier and to the water manifold. With this he installed some more reliable valves. The Technician finished in only 4 hours. Although I didn't price compare at the time I did look afterwards too see relative prices. I see in several instances water heaters that were a little cheaper (different brands) and have heard of cheaper quotes. I'm giving them A on the prices because you get what you pay for. I received quality workmanship, excellent service with a service plan to boot and a quality water heater. If I have additional work or any emergencies again, I will be calling Benjamin Franklin for sure.

I had to make several appointments to complete the job and the plumber always arrived when they said he would. We had gotten several quotes, and felt the price was reasonable. And, even though it took a little longer to install the whirlpool tub than they originally had estimated, they didn't charge us any extra. We have used Benjamin Franklin Plumbing a number of times over the past 12 years and we're always happy with their products and workmanship.

After arriving at the property BF called to my office and gave my assistant the total but no breakdown of cost. BF said " there are lots of issues going on with this sink and the cost will be $612 and I need authorization NOW to do the repairs ." BF did not give a breakdown. My assistant asked for an invoice and was told one would be mailed out Monday. Imagine our shock when the invoice arrived today and the faucet (the repair) for the sink in the basement was $446!!!!! The total bill was $612.00 If BF would have been upfront and told us the only repair needed was a replacement faucet and that it was going to cost more than a lot of people make in a week of working we would NEVER have given permission. BF made it sound like there were major problems. I feel this is VERY unethical and a very slipshod way of doing business. I will never use them again and will warn my friends, my clients, and my family to NEVER use them for any service. When I called the office to discuss this over the top charge I was met with hostility and a total lack of effort to work things out. In my business I call repairmen many times every week and in 30 years have never been treated in this unprofessional manner. BEWARE...............
Description of Work: At home closing the seller was informed the sink in the basement bathroom had a leak. Buyer would not close without guaranteed repair by plumber of their choice (Benjamin Franklin), As agent of the Seller I volunteered to cover the repair. Buyer took my Visa card # left the room and arranged to meet BF at the new house. Little did I know that I was about to be ripped off.

Unfortunately the toilet quit flushing on a Saturday morning in our rental house. The renters were moving in that day. I had to get the toilet working and quick! I called Benjamin Franklin about 8 am and they said they could come out that day and that I was next on their list of jobs. There was one customer in front of me. They said there would be a $99 fee because it was a weekend. I agreed to pay the fee. They did not show up until 4:00 p.m. I had to call several times to find out where they were. I would have found it better if they had called me to keep me informed as to when they thought they might be there. There was a problem with a part on the toilet and they charged me $112 for it. I could have bought the same part at Home Depot for about $12. I was infuriated but had no choice but to pay the price. They, no doubt, took advantage of my plight and gouged me. Never, never will I use Benjamin Franklin Plumbing again.

The plumber got his cable caught in the drain and ended up cutting the cable since he was unable to get it back out. The drain pipe was unusable at that point and Ben Franklin wanted over $2,600 to reroute the drain pipe. We called another plumber who came out and rerouted the pipes for less than 1/4 that amount. Ben Frankliln Plumbing refused to correct their mistake for a lesser amount. We called a different plumber.

Our problems with this company began last May when we had them repair the solid waste line that was corroding at the floor line in the basement. They replaced the compromised pipe with PVC up nearly to the main level floor and attached it to the existing pipe at a point where it was sound. Our basement is storage only so we rarely go down, therefore we just noticed last week that there was a large crack that had formed extending upward from the previously repaired point. This crack appeared to have been formed due to altered tension on the pipe caused by the replacement. We called the company out again on the off chance that they would recognize it as their error and discount the work. We noticed the crack in the waste line just before starting a remodeling project on the upstairs bathroom, so we decided to have Ben Franklin Plumbing reconfigure the shower and tub piping to fit the new fixtures. The technician, Jaime, and his assistant returned Monday morning after bidding the job on Friday afternoon. I asked him to start on the bathroom first to give us more time to work and he asked me why (as if "because the customer asked you to" wasn't reason enough) then gave a disgruntled sigh and agreed. This was only the beginning of the unprofessional conduct. They spent nearly four hours reconfiguring the shower piping after accosting me about continuing to progress on our project -- we added a partition wall to separate the shower piping from bathroom vanity and tiled it after they came on Friday. We made it clear that we planned to do this, however Jaime complained that we were "changing the job on him". We were not going to halt our entire project for two days to save him from drilling a hole through tile and backer board. Instead of taking five minutes to punch the holes out, he made us take the tiles off the partition wall. He and his assistant took four hours adding stop valves and raising the shower -- a job that was undoubtedly lengthened by their constant talking about dogs, video games and significant others. It was clear that our job was not a top priority. After finally finishing that job, they went down to fix the basement pipe. He told us that we would have to replaced the pipe all the way up through the kitchen sink. He pulled out the dishwasher (which will make an appearance later in the story) and tore out the back of the cabinet to open up space to get to the main line before realized he would have to tear out a wall to complete that job. We didn't want to replace a wall (added time and expense) so we told him to first cut the pipe above the crack in the basement. They did this to our satisfaction and went back up to put the dishwasher back in place. We ran the dishwasher later that day and realized the door was not on properly, causing it to leak water. Two days later when cutting material for the bath remodel in the basement, we noticed a large downpour of water from directly below the kitchen sink/dishwasher. We assumed the leak was from the dishwasher work but were unable to reproduce it so we called them back to determine the source and repair where needed. After trying to convince me that there was never a leak, Jaime eventually put the door back on the dishwasher properly. At this point I made sure to inspect all their work closely and noticed a leak in the dishwasher supply joint, so they pulled it out again and tightened it up. We ran the dishwasher but didn't notice any further leaking until we ran the sink, at which point water came gushing out from the garbage disposal. A large crack had magically (according to Jaime) appeared after they had torn out the back part of the cabinet right behind it. The circular crack was punched IN, not out or apart like it would have been had it formed naturally. We pointed this out, launching Jaime into a fit about having never been "accused of sabotaging a job" -- we weren't accusing him of sabotaging, simply of making a mistake. He quoted us $521 dollars to replace the disposal, which we wouldn't have let him do for free. Instead, we got a disposal for $90 dollars and replaced it ourselves. We have never had a contractor experience so poor -- from the incompetent workmanship, to the snide comments about our remodeling abilities, to the slow pace of work, to the outrageous price, to the constant shifting of blame and lack of accountability. I will not use this company again, I will discourage everyone I know from using them, and Ben Franklin is no longer my favorite founding father.

Decided to install myself. Was relatively easy to do by following manufacturers instructions. Called and canceled the Ben Franklin order and asked for refund of $110. They said they wanted to inspect my installation. That wasn't necessary from my viewpoint. Called a friend who had a plumbing friend and they inspected the installation to meet City requirements. Called Ben Franklin back to ask for refund and never heard back. They are not a reputable company and I would not recommend using their service.

They were very professional. They were very respectful. What I disliked was that they started as if I was forced into the decision that I was not really given a choice on. They took toilet out and said that we have one toilet to replace and it was very expensive. Once they started the process, there was no turning around. I had an estimate to start with, the estimate kept increasing and I really had no choice other than calling another plumber and taking the toilet out. I would probably use them again depending on what my plumbing needs are.

I called Ben Franklin Plumbing as my hot water was getting really hot. I asked how much to replace a heating element on the phone which I was told they have to look at it as they are all different. When they came out I saw that they do indeed have a standard price list for everything. He didn’t give my tank much more than a glance and told me it would be $496 to replace the heating element or $1248 to replace the whole tank. Also I had an outside faucet that was leaking - $189. Of course after paying the $79 service call -which would have been avoided had they told me their prices on the phone when I asked--I sent him on his way. I asked if they were on Angie’s List which he became a little upset and stated that wasn’t fair to give them a bad review as they didn’t get a chance to show what good work they do. I called another plumbing company. They put some sort of tester on the tank-it wasn’t the element it was the thermostat. $109.50 later both my tank and outside faucet were fixed. I don’t know which company has the better plumbers but fixed is fixed. If you have a water emergency and Ben Franklin is your only option at the time -shut the water off -go get a motel room until you can get another plumber. You’ll be money ahead and get a little relaxing vacation too.

Since the property was a rental, and tenants were due to occupy in two days, I was desperate to have the work completed quickly. I had used Ben Franklin two or three times in the last five years for after hours 'emergency' plumbing needs and had been happy with their past performance and extended hours.I phoned Ben Franklin on Friday night at about 7:30 pm after I was fed-up with a previous plumber's third (failed) attempt to actually arrive and perform the work . Ben Franklin's phone service answered and took my information and was helpful and courteous. Needless to say, I was a touch bit agitated, and it was refreshing to have a pleasant person to work with. An appointment time for Saturday morning was made. (They did explain that there would be a $99 service charge to come out on Sat.) They arrived on time on Saturday and performed the work as expected. They were professional and installed everything to my satisfaction. I have really only two complaints with them, The first and biggest is that their pricing is quite high. Given that I was needing short notice weekend work, I was willing in this case to grin and bear it. The second complaint is that their plumbers seem to 'look' for additional work. The plumber in this case said that he noticed that the valve and mechanisms of the toilet looked 'corroded' and offered to replace them for somewhere north of $300. This seems to high to me. They had tried to sell me on additional work in the past too. It's kind of a minor annoyance and can be easily taken care of by just saying 'no', but still an annoyance. In this case, I relented and actually had them install a brand new toilet because the price to set and replace the mechanisms in the old one was only about $75 less then the new $700 toilet. Once again kind of pricey in my opinion. Overall, I am happy with them and the quality of their work and will use them again, but only for 'emergency' work. If I have the leisure of time, I will shop around for a less expensive plumber.

Since I didn't have a phone, I set up the appointment through the webchat option on their website. Was promised a confirmation email; none came. Contacted again via webchat to confirm, received another assurance that a confirmation email would be forthcoming. Nothing. Finally, the day before the supposed "8AM" appointment (I wanted early, because I was going to leave on vacation), I called. No record of any appointment. Couldn't get 8AM by this time, got "between 8 and 11." They got there at 10:15. They have a pattern they go through--look, give options, let you choose. Fine. I've done a lot of plumbing as a homeowner/rehabber, so I knew what I wanted, but he keeps yakking--because if he doesn't, he loses all his opportunities to upsell. Which he did relentlessly. It was like being at a car dealer. The price for the replacement faucet was high--515 ws the number in the book. When I questioned the price, he went into a long explanation of the internal quality of the Delta-made, available only to the trade faucet. I can joust with general plumbing jargon, but I don't know anything about the intricasies of the internals. Fine, whatever, just get on with it. We also needed to replace the feed tubes and valves, another couple hundred. The garbage disposal, since I had already bought one, didn't engender much discussion, except when installing, the new one needed an external switch, whereas the old one didn't. Well, they can't install the switch! I understand they weren't licensed, but when I originally called to get my appointment, the person on the phone went on and on about the big, rolling-warehouse trucks, so that they could handle anything that might arise. Except... There were other things they didn't do. First off, the warranty on the Delta Supremo faucet is good only if your water pressure is less than 80 psi. Then, to turn the water off, they wouldn't touch the crank in the basement. Oh, no, we don't touch them, he said, followed by a long explanation of the superiority of the ball valve. I don't disagree, but you're professionals--test the d*** thing and see how dangerous it is. Is this another chance to upsell? However, they did install it, and left the wires available. But they wouldn't even consider repairing the outside faucet, fo some complicated tecnical reason. I again wouldn't disagree, but you gotta check. Instead, we had the upsselling of the new spigot. Hose on or hose off? Huh? I forget which is which, but for an extra 50 you can get a spigot that allows you to leaave it on all winter without breaking the pipes. I politely demurred, saying that I had 3 other spigots that I had to take the hoses off, so I probably would be able to take it off the new one as well. To which he gave me a dubious look and said, "Weeeeeeellllllll..." Like I don't know my own ability to remove my hoses when it's going to freeze! After this was all sussed out, he and his trainee, who was being trained, got to work. It didn't take long--they were done with the kitchen--all parts--before noon. But then they went downstairs to check out and put a sticker on the water heater. Huh? So that it's easier for us when there's a problem, so we can tell you the proper way to drain it if there's a leak. Oh? Why wouldn't I call the people who installed it? However, he didn't try to sell me a new one (because it was only a year old), so by this time I'm pretty much laughing off the attempted predations. There were a few more odd things, like after the spigot was installed they checked the water in the kitchen and matched up a purple dot to show me that the water had more chlorine in it that a swimming pool, and they checked the water pressure--57, normal is 60. Finally, at about 1, they departed. Too late to drive out to Colorado, but my tenant is happy with his kitchen again, and I will get around to installing the switch. And the new spigot doesn't leak, so I would have been able to leave my various hoses on a timer so the plants wouldn't die while I was out in Colorado. And I did enjoy the trainee, who was a guy who'd been to the building before, when he was with a different company. He seems to like Ben Franklin, I just hope they don't spoil him.
Description of Work: Installed garbage disposal and new kitchen faucet; outside spigot.
