Very well. The plumber arrived on time, very important to me. The work was completed in a timely fashion and it looked good. Both problems were fixed. Even got a veteran's discount. This was the second time they did work for me and I will hire them if and when I need more plumbing work.

I called them and told them that I wanted someone to come take a look at my system and find me a comparable one. They did some in-depth work with me to find out what system I would need and what would make me the most comfortable. I was really impressed that they weren't trying to push their highest priced equipment on me but they were focused on what I wanted and stayed within the budget I had. They even gave me a year of their service plan for free as well. I made a pretty heavy investment with them, but they made me feel comfortable about the whole thing and got me set up with monthly payments that I can afford. I know who I will be calling in the future if I need anything else done.

Everything was fine. I had problems with the quality, three years ago, I was supposed to have all the Freon completely leaked out of my AC. It has not leaked out. It had worked fine. I saved a good year in a half anyway. For that reason, taking that consideration. I had discomfort. In the last year in a half I ran it the way it's supposed to be ran. It works fine. That was a dissatisfaction I had with them. They were good with being responsive.

[Member Name Removed], Thank you for leaving this review, as we are always looking for ways to improve as a company. We are glad to hear that your A/C has been running fine. It's difficult at times to predict when the Freon will completely leak out, which could be the reason for the timeframe we gave you being incorrect. We are sorry for this, though again we are glad to hear that service-wide everything is running well. If there's anything we can do for you in the future please don't hesitate to call. Thank you!

They did the sloppiest, worst work that I have ever seen... they were expensive and bad quality. They actually built the pex waterline into my wine rack shelving, not allowing me to move it back into position and left concrete mortar everywhere. I contacted the owner, Danny, no less than 7 times to have him correct the poor job... he NEVER showed up. When I finally threatened him with a bad review, he promised to meet me between 12-2 (I took off work to meet him). HE AGAIN, DID NOT SHOW UP! He ask to move the appointment from 2-3p, I agreed. HE DIDN'T SHOW UP AGAIN!!! I have had it with Polestar! STAY AWAY FROM THIS ROOKIE OUTFIT.
Description of Work: I only had a exterior hose bib relocated... pretty simple job.

We are very sorry you were so strongly dissatisfied with our services [Member Name Removed]. We will readily admit that we aren't perfect, and we did make mistakes within the overall nature of this job. Our communication was lacking, and for this we have no excuse and apologize for. We will be better in this area though from your criticisms, so thank you for holding us accountable. We also strive to be a company of our word, and though we were busy with several emergency appointments we apologize for not holding steady on our appointment times. We truly strive to treat our customers as we'd like to be treated, and we didn't do that in your case and we apologize. However, in regards to your comments about the nature of the workmanship of this particular job there is more to the overall context that I would like to address. First, we are not a rookie outfit. We have been in business since 1984, and have thousands upon thousands of satisfied customers in the greater Kansas City area. Secondly, regarding your wine rack shelving we asked you BEFORE we started the job if we could move the rack, as it would hinder our construction of the waterline. You refused to move the shelving. We then proceeded to tell you the job would become exponentially more difficult with the shelving there, outlined what we would now have to do jobwise with the shelving being there, and then upon the end of this discussion outlining what the job wound now entail you agreed to the work described and signed off on the job. Lastly, we did leave concrete mortar on the ground around the jobsite. However, the job was not complete; we were planning on coming out there the following day to finish up the remainder of the work, and upon the completion of the job we would completely clean up the work area and leave it better than we found it, per our standard company policy. But we were not afforded the opportunity to do so, as you cancelled our appointment for the following day, thus leaving you very dissatisfied with the conclusion of the job. We have noticed a trend though from your previous reviews of other companies that you are a very difficult person to satisfy, so we are willing to get you back to square one and reverse the work we've done and refund your $185.00 for the job. Sometimes customers and businesses aren't the best fit for each other, so it's best for both sides to come to an amicable solution and part ways. If this interests you please call Rachel at (913) 432-3342.

We had 5 companies give us estimates on replacing our Lennox Air cond. and furnace. Polestar was definitely the most professional from beginning to end. Nathan was our "salesperson" It was refreshing that the Polestar salespeople are also technicians! We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable salesperson - he was very patient and answered every question! Manny and Cody were our installers and were awesome! From being exactly on time, being respectful of property, to hard working, to explaining the equipment when finished we could not imagine an easier installation! THANK YOU POLESTAR

We have used Polestar exclusively for 11 yearsl. They may not be the cheapest in the business, but they do excellent work. They have repaired a leak in the wall, a leak the house inspector should have caught and a leak the builder should have repaired due to bad craftmanship. That job cost over $800. They also installed a new furnace and gave us a great discount on an outside whole home air conditioner. They also have service contracts which we sign up for. I would use them again without reservation. I feel you get what you give and if you talk to them negatively, they may give it right back to you. Courtesy goes a long way. I rated this company a few years ago but apparently since I allowed my memberhship to expire, the review was removed.

Polestar was fantastic start to finish. They were competitive on price, very customer service oriented, and showed up within a couple hours of my initial call. Nathan, the tech who came out, was very knowledgeable and more than willing to explain everything he would be doing. They had my system back up and running in less than an hour after showing up. They will be my only call for any HVAC or plumbing needs moving forward.

FURNACE DEBACLE UPDATE: After speaking to Polestar about the issue previously mentioned on 10/25, they called us back and offered us a completely FREE new furnace including installation. Sounds to good to be true right? That's what I thought. BUT, they were, indeed trying to make this situation right. They brought me a brand new furnace, still in the manufacturer's packaging. THREE guys showed up to install it, including a supervisor. It was like a mini caravan showed up at my house. They were polite, professional and thorough. Upon inspection of my old furnace, they told me that they could find NO cracks what so ever, and that the original diagnosis was wrong. Apparently "Jimmy" is going to get a talking to. Kudos to Polestar for going the extra mile. I would have given them an A for this because hey, it was free, but I am rating the entire experience.

Called this company after speaking with two others in the area about a bid to move some piping. When asking what his company might charge for the job, and what it might entail, the man on the phone became condescending and rude. His p*** poor professionalism continued to include being very disrespectful about the two other companies I had spoke with. Different companies take different approaches to a job, and that's perfectly fine. Instead of explaining his approach he turned into a jack*** and ranted about how if other companies think its such an easy job, I should go with them. Anytime I'm working with a customer I like to try and earn their business. I guess I shouldn't be surprised looking at the other reviews on here.

Not good, because they have no integrity.
Description of Work: Polestar does not honor coupons. After they quoted a price of 985, we called back and said we found a coupon for 100 off. They tried to tell us they already gave us a discount. They blatantly lied to us. Also asked them at time of quote if they give angieslist discounts. They said no they dont. So why didn't they say they gave us a discount then? Because they are liars! We are sorry for the poor communication on our end and any inconvenience that it may have caused you. We do offer Valpak coupons and in this particular case, we were unaware that you had the coupon. The staff member that gave you the verbal quote on the phone went ahead and gave you the Valpak discount as a friendly gesture. Regrettably this led to confusion later on as we were unable to accept the same discount twice. We always do our best to provide our customers with a fair price and assure you that the price we gave you was the very lowest that we could offer. We take full responsibility for the miscommunication and promise to better explain our discounts in the future.

After looking at furnace we were told we needed a new Mother board and our brand of furnace wasnt good, although its a national leading company. He wanted us to pay over 500 bucks for one. We decided to wait. After a month, we did have a problem but brought out another company. After a good look at it, the other serviceman found all it needed was a good cleaning, some how, a lot of dry wall dust was covering the unit below, not allowing it to heat. We have not had any work down there, so not sure how that was there. The new company cleaned it very well, and it works great. Either Polestar was lazy and did not really look at furnace, or all they did was try to sell me a repair that was not needed. Will not use again.

We apologize for your unpleasant experience. In our industry, we sometimes encounter differences in opinions. In this circumstance our opinion is that your control board has water damage and needs to be replaced. We are glad that you were able to get it up and running, but we are concerned that this is only a temporary fix. We can assure you that we only had good intentions and that our goal was to fix the problem and help you avoid unnecessary costs down the road. Again, we are sorry for any frustration that we may have caused you.

Details: The original problem: a faucet leaked water into the sink even with the water supply valves turned off. June 20, 2014 - Polestar came out to repair faucet, said it was a faulty faucet and removed the faucet. After detaching the faucet they failed to cap off the water supply line which caused an enormous amount of water damage. Polestar was scheduled to put new faucet in on June 26. The night before Polestar was to come out, June 25, is when we discovered water dripping down the main floor wall. The next morning, June 26, Polestar called to reschedule. I informed them of the leak, expressed my concern and need for them to find and repair this leak; they still chose to wait until the next day. The next morning, June 27, we woke up to water everywhere. When removing items from under bathroom sink, we discovered where the leak was coming from. The water supply line that Polestar failed to cap after detaching the faucet on June 20th was leaking water. Polestar plumbers arrived, acknowledged their mistake. Polestar field supervisor came out to assess the damages. He too acknowledged their liability and stated the repairs needed as follows: wood flooring to be refinished; ceiling scraped, repaired and painted; water damaged wall repaired; laundry room linoleum flooring repaired or replaced. July 8, Polestar sent a crew out to repair damage to ceilings. Kiltz and paint was used to cover water spots. After ceiling dried water damage was still visible. Same crew came back out Aug. 25 and painted over the visible water stains; the paint used was a different shade of white than previously used and there was still visible water damage showing. Several phone calls to Polestar about the outstanding repairs and inadequate ceiling repairs, Polestar field supervisor was sent back out. The field supervisor along with a co-worker came out and again acknowledge their liability and stated the repairs to be executed. He also voiced his concerns about the repairs that have not been addressed. During his visit I mentioned the substandard job that was done when their plumber reinstalled the faucet, he took a look at it and discovered that there was still leaking issues with the water supply line. He shut the water supply valves off and advised me not to use it until they could send someone out. Polestars attempt to repair the faucet still had a leak issue. That explains why the ceiling kept showing water damage after two failed attempts to repair it. After 4 months of asking to speak/visit with the owner. I finally am given the option to meet with him, in which I did. After meeting with the owner I realized they have no intentions of following up on the repairs promised. After that meeting I sent a certified letter to the owner with itemized and detailed outstanding repairs needed due to water damage caused by Polestar. He was given a deadline to follow up, deadline was extended at his request. The deadline was not met, again I was being put off/ delayed. After a two week deadline and 6 months of phone calls I decided to go public and posted a complaint on BBB. It wasn't until I posted the complaint that I got a reply to my letter which included denial, fabricated stories and refusal to take ownership of their mistake. I have been a loyal customer for years with them. We have purchased two AC Units from them. The first one went out in less than four years. It had a ten year warranty but the warranty didn't cover the faulty product they sold us (I should have left them then). We also purchased our water heater, furnace, garbage disposal, faucets, toilets and more. We also paid $198 a year to them for their yearly contract. It saddens me that it has come to this. I'm posting this b/c I wish someone would have warned me. My intentions are not to hurt anyone or their business. As mentioned, I've been a loyal customer with Polestar for many years and had several issues. This last one is inconceivable and they left me with a huge and costly mess. After six months of "verbal" promises to repair all the damages they caused, they have changed/ "fabricated" new stories with no intentions to follow up with their promises. If you do use Polestar, I highly recommend that you either record everything or get it in writing. Also, I highly recommend that you do your homework before allowing them to proceed with any repairs or purchases. Take before and after pictures. Watch them do the actual work and again, get it all in writing!
Description of Work: Description of work: Remove and replace a leaking faucet June 20, 2014 - Polestar removed an upstairs bathroom faucet that was dripping water into the sink. Faucet dripped water even with water supply valves turned off. Polestar failed to cap off the water supply line after removing the faucet. June 26th appointment to have new faucet installed got cancelled by Polestar and rescheduled for the next morning (June 27th). June 20th – 27th the water supply valves that Polestar failed to cap off leaked and caused a significant amount of water damage.

I called about a part in order to repair a furnace at one house and I knew I needed a furnace at another house. I ordered the part but the owner had to call around the country to get the part quickly and through no fault of his own the part didn't arrive the next day like he thought it would. I mentioned that I needed a furnace for the other house and he said he might have a used one at a reasonable price. I went to his shop to see it and decided that it would suit my needs. I had some question about the need for the part I had ordered and he said he would send a tech out that day to look at the furnace. When the tech checked out the furnace that I thought a part would fix he found that it had a cracked heat exchanger and would require a new furnace. I talked to the owner and he said he might have another used furnace which he had installed a new heat exchanger in. He gave me a price which again I felt was reasonable so I asked him when they could be installed. He said that he could install both of them the next day. They were both installed the next day and everything went very smoothly and everything worked like it should and cleaned up was done to my satisfaction. One furnace was installed at 9731 Roe Avenue, Overland Park, Ks 66207 and the other one was installed at 2204 W. 103rd Terr. Leawood, Ks 66206

We have been very pleased with Polestar. The one time we were not pleased, the owner himself came out and not only made it right but went above and beyond our expectations. The owner also resolved the problem internally to assure the Polestar name and company would continue to be represented with the professionalism, quality and price they have been known for. Polestar is a family owned and run business with over fifty years. Polestar's name was given to us by a neighbor when we moved here; I highly recommend them if you're looking for a long term, reliable, plumber that you can establish a relationship with and rely on to be around for many more years.

Called Polestar at 7am after discovering upon returning from a trip that our heat was out. They came out right away - were there less than 2 hours after I called. They inspected our furnace, diagnosed the problem (unfortunately our old unit wasn't fixable, which was expected after a 20 year life) and provided some options explaining in detail all models that they had and the pricing on all. We opted to go with a more energy efficient model, even though it was more expensive, hoping in the long run we'd save money on our utility bills. It was freezing in our house, and they were kind enough to re-arrange some work to have a technician come out that same day and install the new furnace so our kiddos wouldn't have blue lips! I was so grateful that they were able to accommodate us so quickly. The install went very smoothly and they explained everything to us on operating our new system. A few months after the install, our heat randomly stopped working. They came out very quickly to fix the problem (the problem was with the unit, not the installation) and ordered a replacement part and fixed everything up. Our new A/C needed to be charged up in the Spring and THEY called me to schedule an appointment to do this - which was awesome. We were very happy with our experience and have already recommended them to others.

We noticed the AC was not cooling the house as it should be and called Polestar around 7:30 PM on Friday. A technician came to check it around 8 AM the following day. He explained the problems with the AC and recommended to replace it. A sales guy called within an hour and gave us a couple of options. The technician who did the last maintenance warned us that the AC was pulling high voltage and might fail soon in May of this year. Both A/C and furnace were 19 years old and we decided to replace both. Two installers came that morning and finished the work by 3 PM. Then a week later another technician came out to ensure the installation and the operations. We have been on their maintenance plan for a few years and they have always provided an excellent services. We also had our hot water heater and sump pump replaced by this company.

Many false-starts: 2 appts. were cancelled because they were busy with emergencies; one appt. was cancelled because they came at the wrong time of day and it conflicted with a prior commitment I had. On the day they did install, the technician was surly and repeatedly told me why he could not do what we wanted. For example, the sink was a double sink with 2 drains. He told me I could not have a garbage disposal with this sink because it came with 2 strainers. I had to insist that he re-install the garbage disposal. When he finished 5 hours later (after my husband had gone to Home Depot to buy tubing to re-install the R.O system) that he apparently did not carry in his truck, the cost was $200.00 more than the estimate and the sink leaked badly. He was also unable (and unwilling) to caulk around the sink. They also got water on some of my hand-made jewelry (ruining some packaging and causing corrosion on some of the jewelry) in the room where the R.O. system was and did not tell me about it. The same technician had to return several days later to fix the leak and would not speak to me when he arrived. The sink no longer leaks, but now there is a strange gurgling sound that continues for several minutes after water has run through the sink. The technician had no idea what could be causing that.
Description of Work: Pulled out old kitchen faucet and R.O. (Culligan reverse osmosis) system and replaced with new faucet and sink and put back R.O. system

He was about 15 minutes late but called before he came. Very professional and thourough work. We've lived in this house about 17 years and had maintenance done on A/C and furnace probably 15 years. We've used this company for last two years and this is the third year. This was the first time the technician went through the house and told us how to make the A/C work the best by fixing the vents and ceiling fan settings as well as other tips. Brett was also very courteous. This company provides an excellent service like last year I had to call late in the evening to get the sump pump fixed. A technician came within 2 hours in heavy rain and saved our basement.
Description of Work: The cost for $159 covers both A/C and Furnace maintenance for the year. This time was A/C Maintenance.

They installed a new air conditioner Condenser unit for the found out later much inflated price of $3300.00, They were here for an hour and took my old unit with them. It worked fine for 12 months and one week when it quit working so I called them out and an extremely rude tech tells me that the reason it broke is that I was using the wrong breaker size. I reminded them that they hooked it up 12 months ago then I politely asked him if this caused the failure why did it work fine for 12 months. He told me not to question him as he had been doing this for 20 years. I told him to leave and immediately called the owner of the company and told him about my experience. He scheduled another tech to come out on Monday and over the weekend while the AC was not working the compressor inside the condenser exploded beside my house bringing out all my neighbors. I called them first thing monday morning and they immediately accused me of causing it to explode. The tech as scheduled did come out and confirmed that it did explode. At this point the unit itself was covered by a 10 yr warranty on parts so I asked them to replace the compressor. The owner called me and said they didn't want to warranty the unit they installed 12 months ago but they wanted to replace the unit with another manufacturer brand. I asked if the unit were a new unit and he said YES, of course it is. Well I did some research and got the serial number from one of the Techs that worked there and found out that the unit they were going to replace it with was a lower grade, less efficient unit, and it was manufactured in 2005, definitely NOT NEW..... Found out later after calling the company of the unit that exploded that Polestar had no working relationship with them and were not a distributor of their products. Hence the reason they did not want to just warranty the unit. Every time I turned around they were dishonest. Whatever you do "DO NOT" work with this company, they are dishonest and you will get ripped off. Now I am stuck with a less than 2 yr old Air Conditioner with a 10 yr warranty that they would not service as they were never a distributor of the brand so I am having to deal with the company directly and find another technician to repair.
Description of Work: Polestar installed a new Air Conditioner Condenser unit outside my home in October of 2009 after telling my my 9 yr old air conditioner was shot.

I called this company to look at my furnace, which was 1 week out of warranty and not working. They were very prompt and came right out. The technician took the cover off the furnace, blew thru a hose with his mouth, touched a few wires and took a wire off and by-passed it. The furnace came on. He then went back to his truck and said his boss would call me with an estimate. The owner called and said it was the motor and the thermocouple, and they could not cover it because it was out of warranty but would fix it for $500.00. I was shocked and told him I would be calling another company to a second estimate. The owner yelled at me and hung up on me.l called another company who told me to call the manufacturer because they were in Olathe. I told the manufacturer about what had happen and that he didn't feel that the heater had really been tested. I told him I could fix a lot of stuff and that the guy had bypassed a wire and the heater came on. He then suggested I drive to the shop and he would GIVE me the part under warranty if I was willing to put it on the heater. It only involved two screws which anyone could have done. I did that and the heater has worked ever since. This company was totally trying to rip me off and had I been stupid, they would have been able to. They send out coupons in the package monthly. They should really be investigated by someone! I did call Pole Star back and complained but they didn't care.
Description of Work: The company came out and SUPPOSEDLY tested the heater. I am somewhat mechanical as I have a background in fixing small appliance. I am sure they didn't expect a woman to know anything about this! I watched the guy blow with his mouth on a hose. Then he played with a few wires. That was about the extent of his testing. He did not at any time use any equipment to test anything.

We had just bought this home and obviously the inspector didn't notice a leak in the basement coming out of a pipe that ran behind the side of the fireplace. Someone had put a lot of spray insulation foam in the hole, but it didn't stop the leak. I called Polestar and both of us figured the pipe ran from the master bath down behind part of the fireplace and into the basement. When he pulled off part of the fireplace, the drywall was full of mold as was the plastic behind it. The drywall had marks to warn whomever was to put in the mantle, NOT to staple in that area. No reason was given. Well when we pulled off the plastic, the pipe was full of staple holes which was causing the leaking. I could have done that job myself for under $100, but since he was here and we wanted it fixed, we went ahead and overpaid by at least $300. The job didn't even take an hour to complete. After that, Polestar had been after us for duct cleaning and contracts for HVAC. No way. They are too expensive.
Description of Work: Removed part of fireplace, cut out a piece of drywall, cut out a section of 3" pvc pipe, and spliced in another pipe, replaced drywall and fireplace end stand - just pushed it in, not fastened at all.

We were scheduled for a "tune up" but according to the tech our 9-year-old a/c and 2 y/o furnace and 2 y/o water heater are in need of replacing. For 2,000 dollars they could get this up and going again, but the tech said it would only be a matter of time before it goes out again. When I called initially Mark said that the homeowners before us had purchased a bi-annual plan to clean the air conditioner each year. When asked how in the two years we did not have it serviced, it became so delapidated, they had no response. When asked later what that bi-annual service was the receptionist looked it up and found the previous home-owners never had that service. Polestar is the company hired to install the a/c, furnace and water heater we have now. When asked if we had to pay for the tune up that we did not get, we did. THen they wanted to charge 70 dollars again to come out and give us an estimate on a new unit.
Description of Work: Scheduled for a tune up. Tech said our equiptment needs to be replaced. Did not get a tune up only an estimate for 2000 dollars worth of work for 70 dollars.
