The Artful Duster Complete Chimney Service

He was great - inspected the chimney, told us what was wrong (water seepage from outside) and suggested a reputable masonry company to do the repairs.

We have The Artful Duster sweep our chimney on an annual basis. Seth is always prompt and professional and does a great job.

They did the job. They were clean. I had no real objections. The reason I went with another company was because I had seen them in Angie's List magazine. I didn't have anything against The Artful Duster but I just thought it was in the magazine and I also called them and they were able to come in within a week. Everything worked out fine. I don't remember what the price was but I recall it was reasonable. I had two chimneys and they checked everything. There was one which had a loose brake and they fixed it up. They were fine. I didn't feel I was paying more than I should have. I thought they did a fine job. They were right here when they said would be.

He was very knowledgeable and thorough. Very informative and educated on fire safety and kept me well informed.

I have used The Artful Duster for years. He is prompt, professional, thorough, and spotlessly clean. Today was no exception. When I called for an appointment we picked a date and specific time and he reminded not to have a fire in the fireplace for at least three days prior. He was here exactly when he said he would be. Usually, service providers give you a range of time. With the specific time it's much easier to plan out the rest of the day. When he arrived, he was extremely careful about bringing in his equipment. He uses a drop cloth and none of his equipment touches my carpeting. After thoroughly cleaning out the firebox, he then sweeps the chimney all the way to the cap. Following a visual inspection of the outside of the chimney, he then gives me a breakdown of what he found on this visit. How much creosote buildup I had, the condition of the cap and tile, and what I might want to consider doing to keep the chimney in good shape. He left the house cleaner than he found it and we're ready for winter! Today he gave me a few tips on how to minimize the creosote buildup and recommendations about different types of wood to burn and how to store it. He is a great communicator with a very positive attitude. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

We called the Artful Duster to clean and inspect our chimney. He came out and looked up our chimney and said it needed to be cleaned. We agreed to have it cleaned and he did a great job cleaning it. He stuck his head up the flue and told us we needed to have the firebox re mortared, the smoke chamber had holes in the bricks between the firebox and the metal thing. He also said we needed to have the mortar cap replaced and install chimney caps. We knew about the mortar cap and the chimney caps from our home inspection. I called another company out to give me an estimate on having these things fixed so we could have a fire this winter. The technician from this other company asked, "did Artful Duster send a scope up your chimney and look at the interior?" No he did not. The technician asked, well, did he get up on the roof and inspect the caps?" No, he did not. The technician then looked at me and said, in my opinion, you need the mortar cap and the chimney caps and you are good to go. I asked him, what about the mortar in the firebox. He said, there is mortar there, look. We called artful duster back and asked why he didn't use a camera to scope the chimney and he said, well that would have been an extra $85.00. We asked him how he could say we needed these repairs without getting on the chimney or scoping it? He said, well you said the inspector said you need a chimney cap and mortar cap.. He said there are cracks or holes in the firebox and jams.. The technician from the other company said there were not. I am so confused now as to what i need to do? Do I have holes or no holes? This is why I PAID to have a PROFESSIONAL look at my chimney. Luckily, the 2nd technician was a free estimate so I'm not out any money. In fairness to the artful duster-- He did a great job cleaning the chimney. He put a tarp down and cleaned up well afterwards. He was concerned about the young children i had here due to the noise of the vaccum and suggested I take them out of the room while he cleaned. I think he should have been more upfront with what he was doing and why wouldn't you automatically scope the chimney before saying it needed repairs?

I have used this service for over 20 years for both my own home as well as my mother's. Always prompt and efficient, Seth does an outstanding job. I highly recommend the Arful Duster!!!

He called promptly to schedule an appointment. The appointment was within the range of a week. He showed up at the appointed time on the appointed day. He covered everything inside thoroughly and took every precaution to protect the rugs and the furniture. As far as I could see he did a fine job with the chimney (I didn't actually crawl up in the chimney to see how clean it was!). He was personable and had the task finished in a reasonable time.

I would not of known about all the problems I was having in my chimney if he wouldn't of told me. He did an absolutely fabulous job. I also liked that he knows other good companies as well.

It was great. He told me none of my chimneys were workable. No one has ever told me that. My house could have burned down. I was grateful he told me. He was very straight forward. He was very knowledgeable, and honest.

Made an appointment and showed up on time. Analysed problem. Told me what need to be done. Did work promptly and very professionally. New cap was put on and other small repairs were done. Excellent work.

I thought it went extremely well, I was disappointed with myself for doing something about the condition of my chimney sooner but was adduired it could be dealt with in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. A very good experience to say the least.

When he first came out to our home. He scene there were cracks in the chimney that needed to be repaired before he could do his work. And he didn't even charge us for the initial visit. He was excellent very clean and very knowledgeable.

He is very friendly. He is accurate. He tells me when he will be here. He is very reasonable. He is a generally likable fellow.

All work was performed in an exemplary manner. I have no complaints at all. Arrived on time; set down protecting drop cloth; used the tools of his craft to do an excellent job and completed the work in about an hour.

Overall, they didn't clean the whole chimney. They also didn't inspect the chimney including the top of the chimney. They also ended up being very over priced compared to the other chimney companies in the location.

I can honestly say that it absolutely pays to use Angie's List to screen service providers. I personally relied on Angie's List when I selected the chimney cleaning service - Artful Duster. And I was NOT disappointed. There are a number of chimney sweeps around, but without having a process to compare them side-by-side and get the opinions of others, it's nothing more than a crapshoot. The owner of the Artful Duster, Seth, exceeded every one of my expectations. He also picked up on the fact that the gas line coming into the firebrick wall had NOT been filled in with fiberglass and refractory cement. This could have been an extremely dangerous situtation if a gas leak had occurred in the basement and gone up the wall into the fireplace. It would have resulted in nothing short of a volatile explosion. That would likely have resulted in the house burning down. I hate to even think about whether my wife, 2 grandchildren, and myself would have been seriously injured or killed. He told us exactly what we needed to do, and I immediately got in touch with your builder and put him on notice. Our house is just 2 years old, and neither the fireplace installer, our builder, nor the city inspector caught this major oversight. When I called Seth back a day later to ask another question, he promptly returned my call, even after getting 40 - 50 phone calls a day from others wanting his services. I guess you get my point by now....which is I can't say enough about how glad I am that I found the Artful Duster. Angie's List didn't let me down. They provide a way for customers to rate service providers, and this led me to the highest rated chimney sweep in the Kansas City area. Thanks Seth !!

He was great. He was on time and it took just about an hour. There was no dust or dirt in my house after he was finished. This is a great company to with whom to work. He showed me specifically where damage was and took the time to explain how I needed to make changes to the way we use our fireplace due to it's age.

I had looked for the name of a reputalble chimney sweep . I saw this gentleman's company on Angie's List. I called him, had a quick response, had him come within a week of my call. He came today, did the work, was very clean with his work, and left me feeling secure .

Seth arrived on time and was very professional. He inspected the fireplace/chimney inside and out. After his inspection he indicated that the damper was not functioning and there were problems with the chimney on the outside; flaking brick, cracked cap. He recommended that I not use the chimney due to poor design which resulted in bad draw and other problems. He also instructed me to do what I could to fix the damper's latch problem. He urged me to contact a mason who would come out to look at the outside problems before winter. Seth didn't charge me for his work on the damper, only his house call. I am very satisfied with Seth and his knowledge. He didn't try to talk me into getting a cleaning done, due to the disrepair of the chimney and gave me the name of a mason who might be able to help me. I would recommend the Artful Duster to anyone with a fireplace that needs attention.

We needed to check our chimney to see if it will be safe to install gas logs. The flue had to be inspected and cleaned. He was here on time and did a good job. The B rating is only because I'm not sure if the price is average for our area or not for the work performed. He was friendly and very clean.

They were really professional. He was very thorough and checked everything on our chimney. It was not usable and would have ended up costing us about $10000. He went through the entire inspection with us. The price was good and acceptable.

This is the busy season for chimney sweeps, so it was about two weeks between my initial phone call to the actual service visit. I wound up booking two appointments at once-- one for me, one for my neighbor. Even though it turned out there wasn't much for him to do with my chimney, he still took the time to explain how my fireplace was installed, and things to look for in the future. Seth is passionate about his work, it's always refreshing to work with a serviceperson who is so knowledgeable, patient, and enthusiastic. My neighbor said his appointment went great as well.
