Seth visually inspected the flue from the inside and found that because I have a vent -free fireplace there is no problem and the fireplace is safe to use. He also recommended that I have work done on the bricks on the outside of the chimney which I had already scheduled. I would recommend "The Artful Duster" for chimney inspections. My husband called the company three weeks ago and explained condition of our chimney. We expressed that we did not know the last time the previous owners had cleaned the chimney. He said he could clean it with no problem. We then expressed concern about the chimney having cracks and asked if he worked on chimneys that had visible chipping. He said he would go ahead and do the chimney cleaning and give an inspection of the damage. He arrived on time, looked at the chimney, and said the cleaning was pointless and still charged us a 65 dollar fee to do a visual inspection and did not provide a quote for repairs.

Seth arrived on time to inspect and clean the chimney, smoke shelf and firebox. It had been years since it had been clean and Seth informed me it was quite dirty. He performed his work professionally and left me with a clean chimney. Seth is honest and pleasure to work with. They were excellent and very good. I've used him for several years predating my experience with Angie's List. I tried them out once and I was very happy with his service so I kept using him. He provided excellent service at a reasonable price. He is personable and easy to work with.

I have used Seth for years. As always, he promptly called me back even though I know he was super busy. He had a few open times immediately but those did not work for me so we scheduled a date and time far enough out to work for both of us. He showed up right on time. Seth is very fastidious and clean in his approach when you think about what a messy job a chimney would be. He inspects the firebox, the cap, the flue and everything else it takes to make a safe functioning fireplace work properly. Over the years he has advised me on the best types of wood to burn, how to store the wood. Though he has been at this a long time, he has not lost his enthusiasm for what he does. I would not call anyone else and would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Always ask Seth to clean our chimney from inside - annually. No one is more professional.

We had asked the Artful Duster to come and clean our chimney. Upon arriving, we tried to open our flue and he lets me know that my flue is completely sealed shut and that he cannot even open it due to rust. He let me know that he would have to come back to clean it if we were able to open it. I proceeded to open it with a can of rust eliminator and gently prying it open. It seems to me that a chimney cleaner should have tools available to open a rusted flu. After chatting for a bit, we proceeded to leave and charge me the full amount for his time--even though he provided NO SERVICE which he was hired for. I let him know that we did not feel this was fair, and he became frustrated--we paid him and wish we would have not. We called this service due to the reviews on Angies List. Clearly this was a poor guide to use. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In response to your comment Artful Duster: The initial consultation does not suggest that there will be a fee. There is a fee for cleaning and repair--neither of which you were able to do because the chimney was rusted shut. There was no expertise given if the FLUE was rusted shut. You and I were not even able to SEE inside of the chimney. Any sort of side information you felt you provided, was already known. We asked for cleaning and repair of chimney and you provided NEITHER. We felt that charge was unreasonable. if you felt that you could not clean nor repair said fireplace, then the professional response would have been to wish us good luck in opening fireplace that was rusted shut and that you could not preform your job. Charging a service fee for NO SERVICE provided is actually what occurred. AND FOR REFERENCE, we DID at the time of meeting you let you know that we did not feel this was fair, and as stated before, you became frustrated. If you would like to amend this grievance, then a refund would be the appropriate response.
