It was good. They know what the are doing. When it comes to the house I sit down and I watch them. They are competent. They are knowledgeable. When I needed a new furnace and AC unit I choose to buy a $7000 furnace and outside AC unit which resulted in my heating bill being less because I had a more efficient furnace from them.
Description of Work: They sell a yearly maintenance program where they come out twice a year to do a furnace inspection in the fall and change the filter and service the interior of the furnace. In the spring they check out the AC unit. I have a humidifier in the winter and I want it on where water trickles down which allow humidity to be added to the air in the house. For the spring we wan that turned off.

The work and service with them has always gone well. At this most recent appointment, he spent an hour doing a check up and cleaning of the A/C unit inside and out. He did recommend a repair, but I haven?t taken him up onthat offer yet.
Description of Work: They installed our A/C and heating units in 2001. And they also repaired our humidifier this season and recently called me with a special offer for A/C maintenance, which I had taken them up on.

The technician became frustrated with the placement of the capacitor and was banging on the furnace and cursing, for about 45 minutes. I told him I was afraid he was going to break the furnace! He kept banging away on it anyway. We did call Neil Harris mgmt who has offered pay a contractor of our choice to come and check the furnace to make sure the Neil Harris tech did not damage it.

On 12/01 I left my job early to return home for the mid afternoon appointment. They gave me a two hour window. No one showed up during those two hours so I phoned them. It turned out that their office staff had made a mistake. I had indeed made the appointment for 12/01 and their record showed that but when they sent the information to someone else in the office responsible for the actually scheduling, they transposed the date to 12/10. They said that is why no one showed up. They said they were sorry and would mail me a $20 gift certificate to us for a future service. We agreed that they could come out on 12/10. When 12/10 came around I had not received the $20 gift certificate so I phoned them. The person I spoke to said they were sorry. The technician who would come out that day would have the certificate. The technician did arrive on time but he didn't know anything about the gift certificate. He performed the inspection/tune up in about 15 minutes. In the past the tune up took more like 45-60 minutes. I don't know if he actually inspected everything or not. He said the furnance was fine and I can say that I have not had any problem with it. Never did receive the certificate. My furnace/air conditioner was installed by Neal Harris 10 years ago and I have had it inspected twice yearly. It has performed great. I have generally found their technicians to be great (professional, friendly, willing to describe any problem) but I have had repeated problems with their office staff. Problems have included at least three instances when no one showed up at my house because they forgot to schedule someone and a couple of times my phone messages were not responded to.. My last two experiences have been dissappointing so I may consider finding someone else in the future. I have made repeated attempts to contact them about my dissappointing experiences. I have phoned them and got their "call center" and they have either taken a message with promise to have someone call me back or they have transferred me to someone's voice mail. In both caes, no call back. Next I tried e-mailing them. I did so twice but again, no call back. Obviously the next company Service Experts is spending all their money on TV and other advertising and neglecting the rest of their business. After more than 15 years as a loyal customer I will no longer renew my service agreement with them. I would no longer recommend them. To include the name "Service" in their new name is a bad joke.
Description of Work: I have a service agreement with them for heating/cooling inspection twice per year. In October I phoned them to scheduel a furnace inspection/tune up. We set the date as 12/01.

They charge about $180 to inspect the system twice a year. I have been using them for 18 years, which says a lot about them. They have always done good work. I have always been pleased with whatever product or service I have got from them.
Description of Work: I use Neal Harris Service Experts for my heating and air conditioning needs. They come out twice a year to check my heating and air conditioning system. Their last visit to my house was in the last week for the maintenance of my systems. They checked my furnace, changed the filters and checked my humidifier. They have put in a hot water heater for me and a furnace for me. Their plumbing division put in a sump pump for me many years ago.

Very poorly - my options were a $940 basic "builders" model or a $2995 tankless system - with NO OPTIONS in between. I basically paid $55 for a sales call. The plumber was very professional - but explained he had nothing in-between to offer. Then when I went online and found an option in-between and called to see if they could order it - it was over a week before they could get it and install it - when we had limited hot water. Not a great experience by any means.
Description of Work: The estimate ended up costing $55 because I wasn't going to invest $300 fixing my 17 year old water heater.

This is difficutl to put an actual date on since it was purchased as a year long contract. And it is difficult to rate the work lumped in with the customer service portion of the business. That said, I have no complaint regarding the tuneup as they were very professional and knowledgeable. My problem began when my annual tuneup contract had expired. They automatically billed me for the renewal amount. They didn't ask me or invite me to renew - just sent the bill. Then they started calling me and the nature of the phone calls was very suspicious - almost sneaky. I was very taken aback and called the company to tell them that I decline. The bills kept coming and they threatened to report this to the credit bureau. But everytime I would call the company, they would tell me that it had been taken care of. I never got an apology or anything. I haven't seen a bill in a couple of weeks - I hope it has finally been resolved.

price was a little steep when compared to others. but they threw in a one year service contract that although still left him higher priced than others, i thought was a pretty good accomodation. they were very punctual, and have great internal systems. example: everytime you call, no matter who answers, they can pull up a record and tell you what's going on. having an a/c go down in 90 degree heat is never good, but these guys were reasonable to deal with, said what they were going to do and did what they said when they said. i'd use them again on other areas (plumbing, etc).

Very much liked dealing with this co. Contacted them through Costco's service program. Initial contact took a few days, but once the first appt was set up, we proceeded as quickly as we were comfortable with. We'd done some prior research into what type of equipment we needed, and their recommendations matched our ideas. We decided to replace both systems as one was not cooling properly (and had a leak in the evaporator), and both were original systems close to end of useful life. Neal Harris was willing to give us what we considered a good deal for doing both systems at the same time.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 A/C and furnace systems that were 16 years old. Completed work in 2 days, with one system working the first day. Came out the following week to resolve a vibration noise that developed. Removed all old equipment and claened up space very neatly. Advised on how to effectively run systems.

The Neal Harris story. Step #1 in dealing with Neal Harris - make sure your day is cleared. I bought this furnace from them almost five years ago. For the past 6 months, they have been calling once or twice a week, but never leave a message. Every time they have inspected this furnace there is something that needs "fixed". The previous time they came to tune up the furnace, the technician managed to break the gas line to the water heater. They absolutely fixed it and I know they did not make any money on that visit. Has anyone ever had them come at the beginning of their "window"? This time, Technician #1 was scheduled for between 9-11. He arrived at 10:30. Right off the bat, the blower does not work. He's not sure whether he needs to just order the part or charge me $69 for telling me the blower does not work. After speaking to the powers that be, he decides that he will get the blower to work so he can "complete" the inspection. After spending an hour working on it, the blower is blowing. I guess that means it's OK? No - it still needs to be replaced. But - good news! He was able to complete the inspection and the furnace FAILED inspection because the blower does not work! We knew that an hour and a half ago! Of course, they don't have the part. Someone will call me back to schedule a "window" for them to return. During the inspection, he discovered many leaves inside the furnace because when they installed it they did not say I needed to put some sort of screen on the intake to keep leaves and critters out (it seems that's something they should have done when they installed it). After checking with the office - more good news! The part is under warranty and will cost me nothing. Bad news? The labor to install the part will be $255 (coincidentally, the exact same amount as the Social Security death benefit, and I do feel like dying by this time). He finally leaves about 12:30. The office calls the next day to tell me that the part has arrived. That was speedy! Having learned my lesson of being 5 hours late to work from the first visit, I schedule the last "window" - the technician will wander in sometime between 4 and 6. I leave work early at 3:15 to make sure I'm there by 4:00. Technician #2 arrives at 5:30. I do not know his name as he did not introduce himself. He goes to work on the furnace. He is done by a little after 6:30. They are totally schizophrenic in their pricing. The $69 technician did way more work than the $255 technician. A little quirk with Neal Harris technicians is that after they have completed their work, they return to their truck. I do not know what they do in the truck, but they are required to start it, leave it running and putter around in it for 15-20 minutes. After they have puttered, they will return to you. You can use that 15-20 minutes to think up small-talk topics because, after they return, it takes at least 5 minutes for the receipt to print out. The Apple Store, they ain't. I originally selected Neal Harris because it was a Waldo-based business. Since they are no longer a Waldo-based business, I do not feel compelled to make my future purchases from them. I just hope they'll stop calling!

We bought this new house in July, & it took longer to schedule both the furnace & A/C check than I'm used to with previous providers. I was not comfortable with the guy who showed up for the furnace check in Oct., as he was very young & didn't seem to be able to answer questions I had about the system that was new to us. But, for all appearances, he seemed to get the job done. I signed an dual agreement for the A/C check at this time, as the price seemed good. However, I was not pleased that I received a notice in the mail to schedule my A/C checkup around mid-April, called the very next day, & was informed that I could not make my appt. until mid-June. The second man, the A/C servicer, was much more informative & helpful. Although the check took over 3 hours, he seemed very thorough. He explained all of the work that he had done and took time to answer any questions that I had. He even found several electrical wires in one unit that were wired incorrectly & uncapped, which he corrected. When I pointed out that someone else from their company had missed this during the furnace check, he seemed to know who had done the work & didn't seem surprised. I would hire them again, only if I can request the same A/C servicer back for both A/C & furnace checks. If it will be a situation where I don't know who shows up, I will hire another company with more reliable help.
Description of Work: Standard service check of 2 furnaces on Oct. 28, 2009 + same A/C units attached on June 15, 2010. Both serviced under one contract.

My furnace had gotten to the end of its days. The thermal coupler was rusting away, which is where carbon monoxide will leak out. Both of my appliances were about 28 years old. I bought a high quality furnace which cost about $7000, the heat pump cost about $1100-$1400. I think they did a very good job. The were very conscientious and answered all my questions. They were very thorough. They measured the entire house, which other contractors did not do. They sent me a thank you note with cookies which was nice. I had no problems with them whatsoever, and would highly recommend them.
